Preferred Solution: not able to download window updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had XP windows home edition for 5 yrs now and have had service pack 3 downloaded until AOL updated their Dialdbb which had stopped the Pc from working and I believe had corrupted Kaspersky. I have carried out several attempts of recovery and after downloading the new dialbb AOL the windows update stopped working. IE says cannot find server and AOL allows the windows web site but cannot download it. I am stuck with service pack 1 which I cannot update. How can I download service pack 3 and if I am to first clean the pc what do you suggest is the best cleaner to use before trying to download service pack 3?

When I try to run Windows update, I have an error code come up-
Error number:0x800B0001

I am then told to run regsvr32 Softpub.dll. which I can run, but I cannot run the other three, which are: Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, Mssip32.dll. as it says that windows cannot open the files.

I have not been able to get the windows updates for over a year now, and now my PC is starting to really act up, with IE closing down constantly.
I also get a runner error message when windows start up, it says Invalid back web application id "4476822"

I downloaded and bought Registery Mechanic in the hope that would cure it, as well as to run Ad-aware SE Personnal, and although quite a few problems were found and got rid of, I am still having a lot of problems...any help would be very appreciated!

I'm trying to download updates through Windows Update, it shows that I have 139 important updates, and 40 optional ones. I selected them and clicked the install button but it got stuck at "Downloading updates (0 kb total, 0% complete)". I cancelled and retried choosing only 24 important updates and the same happened. I tried the check for updates option but it also keeps checking forever.
I also tried downloading updates from Microsoft Download Center but when I try to install them it hangs on "searching for updates on this computer".
I already ran the Microsoft Fix It tool, disabled my anti-virus and firewall, but nothing works.
I cannot install the SURT because it also keeps searching for updates.

I need to update so I can upgrade to Windows 10 - the setup also got stuck while checking for updates, so I was hoping that updating beforehand would do the trick.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem are appreciated.

One day like most of us, we have to reformat the hard drive and all the updates from windows are gone as well. So once the hard drive is reformat, we have to ask Microsoft to give us all the updates again (200 of them). So my question is where are all these update store at when they do come in? I would like to put these updates (onto a CD or external hard drive) so when I have to reformat my hard again, I don't have to ask Microsoft. Thanks.

A:Window Updates

You can save a fair amount of time, and updating, by downloading Service Pack 1. This will have the bulk of the critical updates, though there will still be more. As far as download a complete update pack, I?m not sure that?s possible as Microsoft is constantly updating Windows.

The other thing, and far easier and better is to create a system image of your OS so that if you do decide to wipe your drive, you can just reinstall the image and go back to where you was before wiping the drive. See this tutorial - Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

I formated my hardrive, reloaded windows from the disk, and installed the drivers.

The problem is when I go to add the 141 updates. I get some downloaded but every time I try, at some point the computer crashes and I have to start over.

I've tried installing just one or two at a time, I've tried installing the oldest ones first, I don't know what the problem is.

About a year ago I had to replace the hardrive and did not have this problem when I installed the updates.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have SP1 installed download it first, this will cut down on the number of updates you will have.

You will have to download and install sp3. its a large file. sp1 and sp2 are no longer supported. until you get sp3 in there you might not get the important updates needed.

This is probably why you can't keep a connection with Windows updates.

W32.Blaster.Worm is a worm that will exploit the DCOM RPC vulnerability (described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-026) using TCP port 135. This worm will attempt to download and run the Msblast.exe file.

Block access to TCP port 4444 at the firewall level, and then block the following ports, if they do not use the applications listed:
TCP Port 135, "DCOM RPC"
UDP Port 69, "TFTP"

The worm also attempts to perform a Denial of Service (DoS) on windowsupdate.com. This is an attempt to prevent you from applying a patch on your computer against the DCOM RPC vulnerability.

I've got windows Xp and service pack 2 installed. Up till a few weeks ago I was getting the auto updates from windows. Then I had some problems with java updates. I was told that windows installer needed to be reinstalled, which I did, no luck with java updates, but then I was getting windows updates when I shut down, saying they would be installed before windows closes. This has happened 3 times so far and the updates have not been installed . I tried a manual install and I was told to update the window installer which I did. I thought I had downloaded several security patches but after each was downloaded they failed to install. Then I tried service pack 3 and it seemed to download but afterwords it said it too had failed to install. I am stumped.
Any advice appreciated

A:when does window 8 updates get sorted out ?

1. When too many updates, it's better to do them just few (about ) at a time, Important first, than recommended with optional turned off until carefully checked what they are all about, most drivers sneak in thru them.
2. Since Vista at least, XP had somewhat toned down driver updates.

A:BSOD after window updates

No DMPS included in upload please try this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.
