I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't know why but yesterday, after restarting my computer it beeped once then went to the AMI screen. Plus my computer has become very slow it might have something to do with it. I am asked to press f1 or f2 and if I press f1 I go to this configuration screen and I don't know what to do. But I do see that the word BIOS is written everywhere on the screen. It dose that every time I turn it on. I haven't had any big problems except my computer is running kinda slow. How do I get rid of the message?

Hi I have windows 7 on my pc. When I start up my pc it shows this weird message. I know it's not a virus cause I have a very good antivirus on. It says the following: American Megatrends - Usb Device Over Current Status Detected !!!
Sata port 5 : ST2000DL003-9VT166
S.M.A.R.T Status Bad , Backup and Replace
System wil shut down in 15 seconds!!!

A:American Megatrends message unknown

OK, you are running the system overclocked. Not too much however it shows both ram and cpu running faster than normal. It is probably the board failing however the very first thing I would do would be to return ALL settings to stock. Clear RTC [cmos] to return settings to stock. Once you clean RTC, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical. Now disconnect any usb device ie printer, scanner, external drive, etc.

Pw ON and see if the board will successfully complete POST.

Remember there is NO safe overclock. All overclocking entails some degree of risk.

This morning I went to turn my computer on and got the message below. It's saying something about the USB devices, but I don't have any devices plugged in to the computer. I know that one of my USB ports is damaged and has been for awhile. Could this be causing it? If so, how would I remove it? Do I have to take the computer apart? Is it something I can do on my own? I am not very computer literate.

A:American Megatrends message on startup

Hi, as you say it is likely to be a damaged USB port.
Some suggestions here.

This means that the hard drive is about to fail. S.M.A.R.T is a utility that monitors the health of the hard drive and reports any potential problems, like an early warning system. When it says "S.M.A.R.T Status Bad" This is not a good thing. Does it give you an option to bypass and get to Windows? If so backup your important data.

Ok, so before you reply, please make note that I didn't build this pc myself, it was custom built in a company by order. I don't know a thing about inside of computer. Of course, I know the main parts, but repairing or tinkering, nooo.

Pc specs:
Intel i5-2400 3.1 Ghz Quad Core
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 550ti Graphics Card.

The thing is, in my opinion, this pc is properly cooled and built, because I've been having it for almost a year and I've never had this problem before.

So okay, I got back home and turned on my pc. And I noticed a problem. My video was slow. Videos on youtube were slow and choppy, I tried like moving windows and their movement was slow. At first I thought its a video card or monitor problem and I tried rebooting my pc. When I pressed restart, before booting windows, the computer shows the window:
American Megatrends

(Computer info)

CPU over temperature error!
Press F1 to continue setup.
Is it really overheated? Because I've never had this problem before, I didn't had it the other day I was using it and I'm using it a lot. What to do? I really can't just open up the case and see the problem, I'm not that experienced.

A:American Megatrends - CPU Over Temperature ERROR

Why can't it be overheating? Things do break, or come loose, and they can get dirty too.

Download HW Monitor and see what the CPU/Core temps are, for that matter check all the temps. Best would be to post a screen shot of HW Monitor.

HW Monitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

If the computer is truly overheating then it will need to be opened up to see why.

It has not been used for over 2 years and Microsoft will demand two days of updates be loaded before I can access any drive from it. I need the live CD Ubuntu to load from the thumb drive so I can fix grub and use utilities to fix the inability to read certian sectors. The support page for that model indicates it came with Windows 8.1, which means it should also have UEFI BIOS. Depending on the way the Ubuntu Live was added to the flash drive, it might not be done correctly. See this page on Ubuntu and UEFI BIOS. BTW: it needs to be a 64bit installhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

Hello, experts!
For the past few weeks, I've been seeing the AMI screen everytime I turn on my computer. It wasn't like that before, so I have no clue why it's showing up now. I pressed f1 and f2 numerous times and went through every session, still I cannot find the problem of why it keeps appearing during startup.

Since I just received a new computer this April, I'm not very familiar with the new AMI then I was with Windows XP. Instead, I used screen-shot to show my AMI screen. I hope this will help!

My computer is working fine, excpet for one minor detail...

My Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe doesn't like my new 4GB of 800MHz ram. The ram is fine. XP 32 bit runs fine with only 2-3 GB in use, but Vista Ultimate 64-Bit is terrible, running at least 5 times slower and maxing out the processor and freezing a couple of minutes just to open Fire Fox. I am considering buying a new mobo, but I heard there is another way.

Some people have gone into their BIOS and enabled an option called "Memory Remapping," which fixed the problem. The catch is: My BIOS doesn't have that option for some odd reason... Surprise, surprise after my cellphone provider had to send 2 SIM cards to me for the phone to work and my External Backup HD had failed just a couple of months after I bought it(Goodbye 100+ Gigabytes of data).

I checked the manual that went with my mobo, and the bios version in the manual and on my computer were EXACTLY the same! Though, the menu in the Manual had many more options than did the one on my computer. So, I go to Asus's website and download the latest official (not beta) driver. Then, I pop in the Asus CD that came with my mobo and tried to run "Asus Update". Every time I run this I get an error message: "Unable to create NT driver... Read more

A friend of mine came to me with this problem. He has an American Megatrends motherboard and can't get it to boot past the Checking NV RAM.. part

here is what is on the screen when it freezes
American Megatrends
AMIBIOS
TYAN TSUNAMI AT V2.00.01 012520001800
Intel 440BX AGPset

P II, 400Mhz
Checking NVRam..

then down at the bottom of the screen it says
62-0101-00999-0010111-071595-440BX/GX-51830001-5

What we have done:
Switched PCI video card to another PCI slot
Disconnected everything but the floppy/cd/harddrive
Reseated the RAM, switched RAM slots, and tried different RAM modules with ones that are known to work.

He says 1 time it made it past checking NVRam (where it counts the RAM) and then froze when it first said hit del to enter BIOS.

Edit: He also remembered that when he first booted he had 3 RAM modules in and all it would say is American Megatrends with the logo and that was it, so he removed 2 and left 1 and thats where we are now.

2nd Edit: When I asked him what happens when he tries it with no RAM he says "nothing, it beeps".

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next? Could it just be that the motherboard is bad where the RAM fits?

A:Problems getting to POST on American Megatrends MOBO

Alright - I just recieved word that it now works. Which leads me to believe that even though it appeared we had the RAM set properly it wasn't.
Now it boots into Win98 and just gives the usual errors when you don't have proper drivers installed and such, I'm going to let him work on that on his own because I think he has a pretty good handle on getting that set straight.
(he pulled this PC together from scrap parts so even getting this thing to run is a plus for him)
I'll post back with any other motherboard related problems that might crop up.

hi folks. good day to you all. my name is max. i can install windows and manage basic troubleshooting related to software without any problems. a couple of months back i installed windows xp on my friends computer and it was working fine but a month after installation, when he booted the comp up, he would get the startup options msg (safe, normal and so on) instead of windows booting up normally. when he tried to boot it up in any mode, the windows xp loading logo would just appear and windows just kept restarting. i thought it might be a software problem ,so i made a fresh install of xp and it was working fine . but now once again the same problem seems to have occured. this screen pops up when he starts the comp. i have included the image he sent me (its a bit blurry but you can make out whats on it). i searched about it and as you can see in the image, the problem seems to be about CMOS settings. now, from what i have learned so far after researching about it is that its either the CMOS battery that has lost its charge, died, or maybe its just a CMOS (or bios? not sure) settings problem. can you guys please take a look at the image and tell me what exactly is wrong and what steps i would have to take to fix his problem? thank you in advance.

Here's the problem: When I start my computer, I'll get a black screen with a bunch of text with "American Megatrends" as the header. The screen is unusual, and on the bottom it says "CPU fan error!, press F1 to continue." If I simply press f1 and ignore it, my computer eventually shuts off, and restarting my computer doesn't get my display back, I have to reset my cmos.

Things that I've tried: Now, I had this problem before, and my computer doesn't have a cmos switch, so I had to take out the battery for a couple minutes, and that worked.
Today I woke up to have the same problem. Only this time, when I took out the battery and put it back, the problem persisted.
So I tried entering my system setup and set "CPU fan speed" to ignore, that still did nothing.

So I'm aggravated, annoyed and helpless. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having some odd problems. My internet is working fine -- I can navigate sites and they will load properly and stuff, except for two instances:

a) I cannot log into Gmail. All I get is a blank page.
b) I cannot upload anything with a web form. Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Mega Upload... everything I try, it doesn't work. The upload never starts and/or I eventually get some sort of "connection reset" error.

I have tried both IE and Firefox.
I have cleared all my caches and cookies and stuff.
I have renewed my IP address.
I have restarted my computer.
I have turned off my firewall.

Last night I uploaded most of the priority Windows Updates that I had accumulated. When I ran AVG scan, it told me there were some file changes. I didn't think they were a big deal since I got a shell.dll change the last time I did a Windows Update. The update also changed my default browser to IE, which I promptly changed back to Firefox -- no big deal. I don't know if I checked my e-mail afterward, I probably did. But I didn't try to upload anything...

I did a system restore point to a few days ago just in case the updates did something, but I still can't check my Gmail or upload stuff.

Also, I am having trouble posting on some forums and messaging groups. When I tried to post my message here, I got: "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." (I'm having a friend post this for me.)

I have a weird situation, my friend told me to download Hamachi for a game server last year, and it worked fine but we stopped playing the game so I uninstalled it thinking I wouldn't need it. But as soon as I did I lost the ability on my laptop to connect to see or connect to any wifi, however my phone and other laptops will connect as normal. I'm not sure it was the uninstalling of Hamachi but it seems odd it was almost immediately. Could that be it or is something else wrong.
How can I get the wifi back? (yes my wifi button is on)

Hello folks,
I hope I've put this thread in the right place. If not, thanks to the moderators for redirecting it. My problem is with my Lexmark X-125 printer but I think it may have something to do with my version of Windows.

I recently got this alert saying my copy of Windows is not genuine and now get those little message bubbles saying 'my system is at risk' and what not. It seems the printer started acting up around that time. At first it would not print on command but would often just start printing on its own at a later time and print off everything I had tried to print earlier. Now it will not respond at all. I can't uninstall it. When I try to re-install it, the wizard says it can't find a plug and play device and then when I try to install manually, it says of the Lexmark X125 "This driver is not digitally signed". The printer was fine for a long time.

Is my idea off in left field somewhere ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your patience and have a good day.

A:Help:sudden printer trouble to due non-genuine WindowsXP???

First the message “Windows is not genuine” says that the key in your system is a pirated key and not issued from Microsoft. The printer problem does not stem from this. Check that you have the latest drivers! I suggest that you uninstall the existing drivers restart then install the latest from Lexmark here; Lexmark X125 All-In-One Post back.

2 Weeks ago I started having problems copying and pasting files/folders in windows XP Pro to my Hard drive. Some of my games will not even install properly anymore that I have installed before that worked. It's not my CD-RW drive, as I just bought a new LG 3 days ago.

The errors I get are:

"Error: Invalid MS-Dos command" when I paste and:
"Error: Invalid Parameters" When copying and pasting a file from cd to HD. With instalations it just tells me that a certain file can not be read or installed and the instalation cancels.

PLEASE HELP! I don't want to resolve to formatting.

Thanks in Advance :)

PS. I installed software/Drivers for my Sony MD Player just before I started having these problems.

A:Sudden Trouble Reading Files/folders off Burned Cds

:smash:
A really basic trick, try uninstalling the new cdrom completely, even disconnect the IDE cable and plug the old one back in. See if the old one works correctly, if so uninstall it totaly, and then reinstall the new one. I'm thinking it may be a device driver error sneaking in on a legacy device driver. As allways, check device manager for errors, and event viewer for informaion.

A few weeks ago, after performing a cleaning of my hard drive, I went to open my Yahoo mail, and I got the message "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close". It worked 2 minutes earlier!! My MSN browser and everything else works, but not IE. I have run 3 or 4 spyware sweepers and 2 or 3 virus checkers. Nothing works. I even went on Microsoft's help site; nothing. The menu box refers to msrating.dll. Any help???????

A:Got IE error message all of a sudden.

What exactly did you remove from the hard drive during your clean up?

&

Have you tried system file checker?:

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow -> ok

You will need your XP installation disc for that though :-)

A:Good, my PC gives this message all of a sudden. Boot device ...

Hi, Restart the laptop by tapping F2 key and it will launch a diagnostic screen, run a Hard disk drive test and check if that passes or not. 3F0 can be caused by 3 things 1. Bad hard drive or partition structure, erase the entire hard drive then use HP recovery discs to attempt reinstall of the OS and all partitions. 2. Bad hard drive data cable that connects it to the motherboard, replace the cable 3. Bad sata controller on the motherboard replaces the motherboard or laptop. Or follow the steps listed in the below thread http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Re-quot-Hard-Disk-3F0-BootDevic...

First, I should apologize because I don't have the exact wording of the error message, and until it happens again I won't be able to, but perhaps I can come close enough. This has happened twice so far. It occurs so suddenly that I'm not sure what I was doing the first time, but the second time I wasn't doing anything besides deleting a couple of normal files and using Windows Explorer.

The message says that a problem was detected and that to prevent damage to my computer Windows had to be shut down immediately. It goes on to say that if this is the first time I've seen this screen I should just restart my computer. Otherwise I should check to see that I have sufficient disk space and if a driver is identified in the STOP message that I should disable the driver and see if the manufacturer has any updates for it. I wrote down the stop message, because it had numbers and I thought they might be useful. They are: 0x0000008E (0xCOOOOOO5, 0xBF954EF3, 0xF7823C00, 0x00000000). I can't remember the rest of the message. Once this screen appears, everything becomes completely non-responsive and all I can do is shut down my computer and boot it up again. Both times it has behaved normally for a while afterwards, but since it has now done it twice and I run the risk of losing any work I don't have saved when it happens, I decided to post on here.

OK I have a
GA-K8NF-9 Gigabyte motherboard
Athlon 64 3200 CPU
1GB memory
Antec 450watt PSU.

Everything was going fine, I shut the pc down at night then the next day I go to turn it on and NOTHING. Naturally I thought it was the PSU, so I took it out and took it to the shop where I had purchased it. They hooked it up to a tester and said it was working fine. I seen the fan spinning and it looked good. So I'm thinking something must have been loose in my pc. I hook the PSU back up and same thing. Nothing happens, fan doesn't spin or anything. I've tried different cables, tried using the reset switch instead of the power thinking it may have been the switch, I even tried just using a jumper instead of connecting the power switch cables on the front of the box so in theory when I flip the switch on the PSU it should come on. Still nothing happens. The fan on the PSU doesn't even spin.

Does anyone have any ideas??

A:Help my pc all of a sudden won't start

it sounds like you have a dead Mobo. is there a green light on the mobo showing when the PSU is plugged into the board?
