Cant conect HTTPS or FTP,Cant Connect Firefox,But can connect normal sites with IE7

Q: Cant conect HTTPS or FTP,Cant Connect Firefox,But can connect normal sites with IE7

Hello out there,

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2,About a month ago,I noticed my internet connection could not connect to secure web sites,or ftp sites, yet i can seem to conect to everything else.I tried uninstalling firefox, then re-installing it,and now firefox wont connect to ANY sites at all,and i am having to use Internet Explorer 7 to access the web,but i stil cant access https or ftp sites.
I have searched long and hard for anybody else that is having same problems, and found some people do have the same problem, but ive tried their solutions to no avail.

I have recently installed zonealarm, hoping it might fix the problm, but it has not.I cant even conect BitComet,or Skype, yet i have no problem accessing my e-mails from incredimail.
Also, for some reason when i am in explorer, and accessing websites,i cant open anything in a new tab,it just opens a blank page, and my Dial-up Connection box keeps flashing on and of the screen until the site is loaded.

Ive tried playing around with my network settings, but i only have the 1 pc,and i have a D-Link DSL-200 ADSL Modem attached, but no other computers.

Ive tried turning the XP Firewall off,but stil have same problems.
As you can probably understand,I am at my wits end.

Here is the information i get when i type ipconfig /all into my cmd prompt:

I am Fairly PC literate, but im not really good with Network settings, but up until a month ago,i never had these problems.
I cant download certain things, cant access my isp's account settings, cant conect to skype or bitcomet and feel i am wasting my money paying for my connection.

If ANYBODY has had similar problems, and been able to fix it,please tell me how.

I did have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed ages ago,but un-installed it,but for some reason,it stil appears in my Add/Remove Programs, but when i go to remove it,or change it,it comes up with an eror box,and my options are to cancel,or debug. I have a funny feeling that this MAY be causing my problems, but internet security 2005 has DEFINATLY been un-installed (there is still the directory in program files, but nothing in it)

Thankyou for your time, and i'm sory my post is so long, but i wanted to make sure i had all my information posted so i can hopefuly fix the problem as soon as possible.

Thanks Again.

Preferred Solution: Cant conect HTTPS or FTP,Cant Connect Firefox,But can connect normal sites with IE7

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I had a similar problem when I changed firewalls. I used CA firewall and when I uninstalled it and started using Windows firewall, I found many ports closed. I opened a few ports using instructions from the Micorsoft site and am now able to access what I couldn't previously reach.

Hi everyone, every time I try to connect to a site with HTTPS enabled, the site will just appear to load forever, or will load with no formatting at all, there will be no images or anything. The majority of the time the site will not load at all. This happens in IE, Firefox and Chrome. I've tried all of the common suggestions I've seen around such as clearing all temporary internet files, cache, cookies, etc. I've also tried reinstalling Firefox, I've checked my proxy settings and everything. I even used a Microsoft FixIt tool to re-register DLL files with IE. A system restore back to before the problem started (yesterday) did no do anything.

It might be important to note that my laptop is the only computer having this issue. All other devices (iPod touch, 2 other computer) connected to my router can access HTTPS sites fine.

I am open to any suggestions. My computer is clean, scans with Malwarebytes, Avast, and ESET Online Scanner are clean. I am at a friends house right now, but can try the suggestions tonight.

I can normally troubleshoot my own problems, but this one has got me stumped! Thanks for any help provided

I have a user w/ a Dell Latitude laptop. Anyone who logs into the device is unable to access our Exchange server through Outlook OR the OWA. Several other internet sites give a "please enable TLS 1.0/1.1/1.2" warning. These sites all work properly
in Chrome.
I have tried refreshing the PC. Worked at first, then a couple hours later resumed the same behavior.
Issue persists both on internal wifi and via cable connection.
The employee who uses the device is able to access Exchange from other devices. It seems to be an issue with this one device, even after the OS was reinstalled. No one who logs into it can access Exchange or other internet HTTPS resources.
I did recently limit the SSL/TLS ciphers clients are allowed to use per this bulletin: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms15-031. However, this applied to all domain computers & no other devices are having this issue.
I'd appreciate any ideas anyone could throw out.

My browser is IE8. Window XP Home with SP2 (Sony VAIO Desktop PCV-RS420, Pentium-4, 2.8 Ghz, 512MB Ram). I am now unable to connect to the Internet. The network diagnostic for window XP kept saying to check firewall settings for HTTP(port 80), HTTPS(port 443), and FTP (port 21).  I don't know how to do that. I open the Window firewall settings on the Security Center page (Exception tab), it lists programs and services on the "Exception", ie, to not block incoming network connection from these programs or services, which include "Internet Explorer",on the list, which seems to be appropriate.  But my computer still will not connect to the Internet--very frustrating.  I  have done "System Restore" a few times to an earlier dates, thinking maybe the computer picked up some virus and the System restore function should temporarily resolve that issue.  But still no luck.   Finally, I tried connecting to a secured website with "HTTPS" in the address bar and the computer appeared to be successful to connect to these HTTPS sites, but it continued to refuse to connect to a regular website(i.e. with "HTTP" in its address bar).  Please help me resove these internet connection issues I would vey much appreciate.

A:Internet Explorer will not connect to HTTP, but will connect to HTTPS

<<My browser is IE8. Window XP Home with SP2...>>
May have nothing to do with your problem...but you really need to install SP3 and all critical updates since its issuance...that may take care of your problem, but even if it doesn't...your system will be less vulnerable.
Installing or reinstalling SP3... has been known to overcome various previous system problems.
Sounds to me like corruption affecting non-secure websites, so you may also want to reinstall IE8.

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help me out with this because I have tried everything I can think of with no luck.

My brother had just moved in and tried to install a wireless router and apparently everything was running fine for about 5 minutes and then the connections went weird:

When trying to connect to some websites an error message appears (can not display page) when diagnostics are run it says the connection to http and https is running fine, but it is unable to connect to ftp sites. Could be a problem with firewall settings.

I get the same message when trying to connect to windows live messanger and running the troubleshoot. FTP connection problem, check the firewall.

I had zone alarm installed, turned it off, and checked the sites, still no connection. So I turned it back on, changed a few program settings (to ensure it was allowing messanger.exe and explorer.exe) still didn't work. Uninstalled zone alarm, turned on the windows firewall and that's where it is now.

My brother called into my service provider, they got him to run a bunch of spyware/antivirus diagnostics, nothing came up (as it shouldn't I have PC Tools anti virus and spyware running) and then told him it seemed as though the connection was fine but a program on the computer was blocking some specific sites. So obviously no help there.

Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I can't access my mail in outlook (pop3 server can't connect) and pretty much any website. google.com works, faceboo... Read more

Hi tennille578,There are many possible reasons this is happening and the contributing factors vary for every individual computer.Start by clearing old files and settings may be preventing you from connecting to the Internet.Click on Tools.Select Internet Options.Click the General tab.Click the Delete Files button. When the box opens, put a check in Delete All Offline Content.Click Okay.Click Delete Cookies. When you are prompted to confirm this selection, click Okay.Click Settings.Click View Objects.Click View, and then click Details. If Damaged appears in the Status column for any program file, remove that program file.Close the Downloaded Program Files dialog box.In the Settings dialog box, click OK .Under History, click Clear History, and then click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the selection. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Okay.Try to browse the Internet. If no joy, lets see if we can try and repair the internet connection.Try running Winsock XP fix. This utility can fix tricky most connection problems.See if there is anything in this Micro$oft Article that helps: Page Cannot be Displayed

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

For about two weeks now a few sites I use including Google.co.uk time out before connection. If I try to reload it's just the same. However after about 5 minutes of leaving the tab and returning to the connection failed page the reload will then work.

This applies to some forums where every change of topic fails to connect, but there is no problem with most others.

updating to Firefox 3.0.10 has made no difference.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

So yeah, im new to this forum and hopefully somebody could help me solve this annoying problem.

About a week ago, i went onto itunes and it said i couldnt connect to the store, saying that my network connection timed out. Well its been like this since then, and later i noticed, i also cant connect to some sites, watch videos, and upload stuff onto sites. Some of my windows gadgets wont update either.
I thought maybe its my firewall, so i turned off windows firewall and that didnt do anything. I also uninstalled my antivirus, and that did nothing as well. Weird thing is, when i boot my other Win7 OS on my other disk, everything works fine on there. But thats my backup OS and everything i have is on my other disk.

Ive tried remembering what i could have done to screw things up like this the day it started but i cant remember doing anything. Maybe i clicked something that makes my comp block certain IPs i dont know

Someone please help

A:cannot upload, connect to sites, connect to itunes, etc

If you installed itunes that also means you installed the dreaded bonjour service which is famous for causing connection problems.

With Bonjour disabling doesn't always work and you have to remove it from your system.

To fix ...
Run MsConfig

First disable Bonjour, Under the Services tab uncheck the service called "##Id_String1.6844[... and then a bunch of numbers]" by Apple.

To remove it from your system.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour
2. Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
3. Restart your computer
4. Delete the Program Files\Bonjour folder

I have an Adobe Connect meeting scheduled for tomorrow, and when I click on the link to test my connection to Adobe Connect, which I just installed, I get this message- what can I do? I am connected to the Internet, so Firefox does have permission to access
the Web.
"Hmm. We?re having trouble finding that site.

We can?t connect to the server at meet94924985.adobeconnect.com.
If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:

    Try again later.
    Check your network connection.
If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web."

I suggest you get rid of Weatherbug, it's associated with spyware. A good alternative for Firefox users is ForecastFox.

I'm working on an XP pro SP3 latitude laptop with Symantec endpoint protection 11. I have disabled symantec while troubleshooting.
It is a member of a domain but I do not have domain admin logon so I'm working on it through the local admin account.
Everything seems to work fine, except when opening ie, an error message is returned. No other information is given other than "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
If I open up a command prompt I can tracert to an ip address, but it takes a very long time, almost 5 minutes. I cannot get a domain named resolved.
I can connect to the router's user interface.
I have run malwarebytes, many problems on the first run, no problems on any other run, in safe-mode and not in safe-mode.
I have flushed the dns cache, and have checked the hosts file I have run combofix with no problems, I have run tdsskiller with no problems, I have run netsh winsock reset, I have run SFC, I have run CWShredder with nothing found.
I have tried different browsers and different nic cards.
It does get an ip address if I choose to obtain one, I have tried configuring static ip with different DNS servers.
I am sure it is a dns problem, but what is causing it, I don't know.
I have banged my head against the wall, nothing found!
I know there was a question here similiar  but it was never answered.

Hi all;

I have an odd issue with Firefox & Windows 10, with accessing HTTPS websites.
The sites are very very slow to load and others do not complete the load cycle.
I've had this issue for months now.

Just tried the newly released Firefox v50 ... same issues.
Also use Portable-Firefox:
-On the Windows 10 pc = https sites load very slow.
-If I move to my other PC (using Vista), all sites load fine. Without any changes to my Portable-Firefox setup.

When I use Microsoft's Edge browser all sites load fine.

There seems to be a conflict between the Toshiba Laptop, Windows 10 & Firefox in loading HTTPS websites very slowly.

This is what I have tried so far in relation to Windows 10:

-Changed Proxy settings (within Firefox) to each setting
-Flushed DNS cache
-Checked HOSTS file for any entries to those websites
-Removed entries from Windows Firewall
-Disabled Firewall and Anti-Virus
-Checked for Malware,Spyware,etc,etc
-Booted into Windows 10 SafeMode-Network Enabled
My head is getting sore now. Any suggestions

As I mentioned my Portable-Firefox installation works fine on other pcs, including Windows 10 versions, but not on this system (Toshiba laptop & Windows 10). Though MS Edge browser works perfectly fine.
Some of the https sites:

https://au.yahoo.com/?p=us ((loads very slow, with some pics & videos not loading at all. even news articles not loading at all))

You can't fix a 403 forbidden error. It's something on the website where you don't have access to, only the webmaster can fix this.

I have Microsoft's firewall turned off and I have set my Webroot security firewall sset to allow all traffic. Not sure what to try next. I truely appreciate any and all suggestions.

In addition to that, my touch-pad (this is a laptop) isn't working properly; I can usually use the right side of the pad to scroll up and down on web pages, but this function doesn't work. I don't know for sure, but I figure the problems are related since they began at the same time.

I've searched the internet, and found this site, and it seems accurate. I did run lavasoft adaware at the beginning of this week, and the issues began shortly afterward. I tried the netsh int ip reset logfile.txt command in the command prompt, the WinsockXpfix program, and running the .dll files; all to no avail. I also check my Firefox settings to make sure that I can connect to secure sites. Those options were already checked off and should be working.

Restoring to the state before the updates did not help nor did turning the system off and restarting

So ive been having this problem for about a week now.

I cannot connect to google websites, facebook, email websites. Ive come to the conclusion that its only secure websites as websites like reddit and msn.com work.

Ive tried alot of solutions that have worked for other people from around the web and so far nothing has worked.

These problems happen in IE and Chrome but NOT Firefox.

I dont have an AntiVirus or a Firewall installed, windows firewall is disabled.

Ive Tried:
Checking Use SSL 2.0/3.0
Clearing SSL State
Restarting Computer
Uninstalling browsers
Clearing temporary internet files
Disabling protected mode (Internet Options)
Among various other solutions ive seen around

So does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

Hello mouse now I don't know your reason for not having any AV on board there are plenty of free ones and my philosophy is having one is way better than none at all. I run Kaspersky paid for with add on - on call scanners.

Personally if I were you I would at least run these

download from bleeping computer ? delete any rubbishthese find.

If you feel inclined to have an AV on board take a look at this list
Probably the Best Free Security List in the World - Part I - Page 2

This issue arises randomly and only once has it ever recovered. Event viewer also does not show anything either. Restarting fixes this issue, but I would rather find out what caused this issue in the first place.

I cannot connect to any sites using HTTP or HTTPS but I can connect to my remote FTP server and PING works for any website. I have used 'netsh' in an attempt to fix my issues but it requires a restart where it would fix it temporarily.

I also cannot access any local IPs or my localhost web server. I can however access some of Google's websites on Google Chrome Dev but not on any other browser. For the other sites I get a TIMED_OUT error. I have reinstalled my network drivers and reset my network settings (including DNS) but nothing else works.

I even turned off Bitdefender Firewall and Antivirus and Malwarebytes and issued a system scan but does not impact anything.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Help! my kids have done something to the computer. Recently started getting multiple pop-ups that would happen even when IE was not open. I've run ad-aware, downloaded spybot s&d but when I tried to run it, it wanted to update the definition files, so I told it to downoad updates and it came back with a socket error #10061 Connection actively refused. Previously I tried a few other web sites with no success either. I did notice that everytime IE tries to connects to a https website, that the usual response is that it cant find the page.

I started searching around on my computer to find that whatever they had done inadvertantly de-activated the firewall... I've since re-activated, but still cannot connect to https or use webpages that try to run downloads when you click a button.

Computer is a sony vaio, 1.6, 512ram, XP (sp1), IE 6.0... been running okay up till a week or so ago...

Okay, I'm going crazy over this little problem. A friend/neighbors computers Internet Explorer 7 (now 6) or Firefox 3.0.6 will guit working after about 5 minutes and then will only go to websites that have the S (secure websites) in HTTPS websites, e.g. https://www.aaanetaccess.com...or anything like that. It will quit receiving bytes, but I can Ping www.yahoo.com or www.google.com.

The computer has Windows XP Pro, AMD XP CPU, 512 MB RAM, etc... and it runs great except for this.

I've uninstalled AVAST and Adaware since they had been installed about a week before this occurred, but everything was working fine for that week.

Also uninstalled XP SP3
Let me know if you need more info.

Please help before I lose it!

A:Solved: Internet browsers will only connect to HTTPS websites

Well, I restored the computer back to the day before I had updated Avast (Jan. 15th) and found a mess of problems that I wasn't aware of at the time. Firefox had to be reinstalled. Internet Options wouldn't open and ie7 was working in No-Add-ons mode. I reinstalled ie7 and those apps started working.

And, the internet is now working fine.

Thank You!

Hey guys. So all of a sudden my Google Chrome stopped working. I mean I was using it fine then five minutes later it kept giving "error 102 connection refused" instantly as if it wasn't even attempting to load anything. I can browse the web in Firefox but even then I can't do anything regarding secure sites. Also I'm completely unable to update or install any software that requires a connection despite my connection obviously working (since I'm posting this).

Chrome seems to work in safe mode with networking but AVG is still unable to install as it keeps saying I require an internet connection. Also my laptop which uses the same connection appears to work perfectly. I'd like to think it was a Chrome only issue but I'm unable to view https pages or update software regardless of what browser I'm using. Really baffled and frustrated

Using XP and SP3.

I've tried the following:

- Checking hosts file
- Winsock fix
- Releasing/renewing IP
- Malware etc scans
- Rootkit scans
- Disabling any firewall/antivirus while making sure Chrome is a trusted app
- Ensuring that the browser settings are set to automatically detect instead of connect via a proxy
- Router is not blocking anything
- Uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome

Q1) Can I remove the old fan and connect the new PWM fan in this way? Do I always get maximum speed if I connect this way?

Q2) How to connect a PWM fan to act as a normal fan?

Q3) What is the point of using PWM? Isn't it better to use normal fan so it can work at maximum speed and your components will be cooler?

A:Can I connect PWM fan as a normal fan this way?

I believe so,
The yellow wire would go to I believe a support fan plug on the mother board.

Cannot connect to internet in normal mode.
Internet connection in Safe Mode is intermittent and
almost impossible to download any large software.
Downloaded Cobian Backup but says there's "no engine" so
no back up.
Cannot find winnt32.exe
Downloaded DDS.
Rerunning GMER with IAT/EAT and Show All unchecked, but did not
see "Drives/Partitions other than Systemdrive" so can't uncheck.

Downloaded Spyhunter, the only program to find anything, which says;
2 infections, registry cleaner, spyshield, regreswiz.zip,
{worm.rimecud.fy} combofix.exe
connects/sends to; hxxp://shponchik.com/gda/gate/data.php
Don't know if that's true or just Spyhunter wanting to sell
me a product.

Ready to give up and reformat but don't have original disks.
Still have limited net access in Safe Mode and access to
yahoo and gmail email accounts, when I can get on.
Have to continually run Network Connection Wizard but when
that doesn't work have to reboot into Safe Mode again and
start over, which is often.

No idea what virus, worm, trojan, whatever I picked up and would
like to visit the creator to put a live bat in his pajamas.

Seemed that certain keywords in google would freeze it.

Spent 90 minutes waiting for GMER to finish and no report?!
Will run it again tomorrow.
Here's the DDS log;

One day I was looking at the connections in Comodo Firewall. I noticed that svchost was connecting to a IP on the Internet. I looked up the IP and the results say that the IP belongs to Microsoft. Is this behavior normal?

A:Is it normal for svchost to connect to Microsoft?

It sounds like it may be an updater or something similar. You can check what Microsoft services are running on your computer by going to Start > right click on My Computer > Manage > ServicesYou can see what services auto start on your computer by going to: Start > Run > type "msconfig" (without the quotes) > Services tab Also, if you want to see what process is connecting to MS, follow this advice: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/list-services-running-under-svchost.exe-process/
