Q: Lenovo B51-30, last Windows 10 update and sound pr...

Hi. This morning I used my laptop, everything was fine, than I was watching TV and my laptop went to sleep mode, I was like OK, I am watching TV now, I will use it later. Suddenly my left speaker start ticking, I return laptop from sleep mode, but I couldn't do anything with sound, raise volume, or open realtek. So I did restarted laptop, while restarting at Lenovo screen speaker will start ticking, and when inside system its just "shhhshhhsh" coming from headphones, while speakers, well while in system still left one is ticking all the time. Indicator in Control Panel > Sound is showing green volume equalizer okay while I am playing any track, but I actually hear nothing. I reinstalled driver for Windows x64, from Lenovo drivers for B51-30 Laptop, tried with windows default driver, all is same. I had this with first laptop, now with second too after I change it by warranty. Now there has to be fix, or all this serie is nothing but useless. What should I do?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I see many similar threads here but no one helps me to solve an issue with sound on my desktop computer Lenovo with 64 bit windows 7 OS.

In Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers I have listed Realtek High Definition Audio and under properties of that message "This device is working properly" appears.
From that point I think sound should be working.

On the back of computer I have headphones plugged in, I thing properly.
Lenovo subsystem see that jacks are plugged in.

However, in taskbar, there is speaker symbol on which is little red X and when I put a mouse pointer over it it gives popup message The Audio service is not running.
When I press right mouse button over that icon and choose "Sounds" a new window pops with several tabs such is: Playback, Recording, Sounds, Communications. Under Playback and Recording tab here is a text: "No audio device installed".

Is here something I can do to get my audio working?

A:Lenovo, windows 7 64, no sound

First suggestion. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were any Windows corruptions, this will fix it.

Aslam O Alaikum,

Friends, I am facing very strange problem with my laptop. I have lenovo g500 with Windows 7 installed in it. I am facing trouble with sound of this system. When I starts my Machine some times sound stops working.

To get sound back I used to uninstall sound drivers and reinstall those drivers and after doing so sound starts working.

After some time I discovered that by disabling/enabling Bluetooth/wifi sound starts working again.

Here is the screen shot of Drivers installed for my PC.

One more thing,,,, 3, 4 months before I had not installed these sound drivers. I was using sound drivers that were by default at the time of installation. There were only two drivers named as "High definition audio". But due to these drivers my speaker input pin was not working. So I downloaded new drivers from lenovo website.
I hope You understand what I am trying to say. Please help me.

Description of problem: at some point when playing audio, sound will cut out. The levels will still be moving on the mixer, but no sound will come through the speakers or sound jack. It seems that soon after I've closed all sound-producing applications, sound returns. I am 50-75% sure that this is strictly a sound jack issue, as I don't remember being able to reproduce the issue without the sound jack being active when the audio drops out. Frequently, bumping my headphones' cord seems to cause the problem, but other times, the problem seems to happen on a click, a loud sound, or seemingly nothing at all.

I am unsure of how to reliably reproduce the problem, so it is difficult to diagnose whether or not the problem can be reproduced when the sound jack is not active. This isn't common use for me...

Origin: Appeared mid-October, around the same time I had upgraded to the newest drivers (where the old ones were from earlier than May 2013). All were downloaded through the Lenovo website and/or Lenovo's System Update utility, with the exception of the Intel graphics drivers, which were downloaded through the Intel website. At this point, I was running Windows 8, not Windows 8.1. I installed Windows 8.1 recently, and the problem remains.

What I've tried: disabling drivers, reinstalling drivers, disabling sound effects, disabling audio application overrides...

What I haven't tried: rolling back drivers (being honest, I have a bit of trouble believing that this is strictly ... Read more

Today in the morning I shut down my Lenovo w510 win 7 ultimate 64

It said it had to install one update which it did and then shut off

When I rebooted it came up with the think pad screen the drive icon lights up for a sec and then it doesn't do anything. Tried to use the blue think vantage button but didn't work.

Let it sit for a while just in case but nothing happens. The drive light never comes on

Any help would be appreciated

I'm very much a novice when it comes for tech stuff, so if I posted this in the wrong place/irritate people with my cluelessness, sorry.

This issue started when I was restarting my Lenovo Y50-70 laptop after a Windows 8.1 update about 2 weeks ago. I'm only getting a black screen after the Lenovo logo. Initially, there's no cursor, but it shows up after 5-6 hours. Otherwise, it's still a black screen. Ctrl-Alt-Del (or any other key combos) doesn't work. The only response I get at this stage is Sticky Keys.

I could get into Advanced Recovery Options using Shift-F8 once, and I tried to restore to an earlier point (I installed two new programs before the update). But the restore failed; I don't remember the exact error message, but it mentioned something about something being corrupt, and running chkdsk. That was the last time I was able to access the menu, and since then F5/F8 combos don't work. I tried Safe Mode before the restore, but it didn't do anything different either. The only thing I can do now is access the BIOS.

Again, I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff, so I'm not sure if there's anything from the BIOS I can try, or whether this is a hardware issue (because of the corrupt/chkdsk thing) or a software one. I don't have any installation media/recovery drives at hand, and I won't really have access to a computer where I can make one until August (I'm not at home). Any help is much appreciated though.

When I look up your system on the support page I see quite a few updates, drivers and such that support windows 8.1 and 10.  If you are looking for a BIOS update or patch, those are usually OS neutral and are applied with either a BIOS utility or patcher that works in DOS mode and some can use a windows based utility.
Are you trying to use a BIOS update to fix an issue or just get the "latest and greatest" for your computer?  Mostly I would not recommend updating your BIOS unless it is absolutely neccessary to fix a troublesome issue or problem with hardware.

The best way if you can gain access to another computer is to get a ISO copy of Windows 8, put it to the USB with Microsoft Store

Then use the repair tool built into Windows 8.

Before attempting another upgrade which should not be a problem since your computer is so new remember to:

1) Check and Install latest Windows Updates.

2) Check for Firmware updates

3) No external devices plugged in during the install

4) Consider doing a clean boot.

Hi, I recently bought the Lenovo g50 (80e501g3us) laptop that came loaded with Windows 8.1. I decided to downgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) because the laptop came loaded with spyware such as Superfish and I prefer Windows 7. I first created a system image of the computer for safety and then i rebooted with the Windows 7 CD. I had to delete all of the partitions in order to install Windows 7. The installation was a success and I started updating all of the drivers for my model based on the Windows 7 64 bit OS that I got from Lenovo's website. All drivers except 2 worked which said it required an update. I then flashed my BIOS with the version that I downloaded from Lenovo's website thinking that this might solve my problems. After the BIOS was flashed I received an error that this was the wrong BIOS.Now I get the following errors: Default boot device missing or boot failedInsert recovery media and hit any keyThen select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media This then present me to the boot option menu with the following option only listed:efi pxe network I have inserted the DVD that I used to install Windows 7, however, it is not being recognized or loading since the only option is efi pxe network. Reset the BIOS to default before you do anything else.

Unplug AC adapter (remove from notebook).
Remove main battery
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (power drain)
Replace main battery
Replace AC adapter (plug into wall then notebook)

This should reset the BIOS to factory defaults, but you should enter the BIOS to make sure your boot order has been changed to indicate your choice of booting (DVD, HDD).  I would also turn off network boot (disable) as you should not need that option for Windows 7, 8 or 10 to work correctly.
Good luck.

The recent Windows Anniversary Update has produced several major issues with my 2 year old B750 AIO.  First the audio became very scratchy.  That was fixed by going to the RealTek site and getting drivers for this update.  Issues remaining seem to involve things on my task bar:  There is a message symbol showing, but it will not open to see what it is.  At the speaker volume symbol, I can't raise or lower the volume.  Cortana will not respond to voice or typing in the box on the task bar.  I also tried to open the Lenovo support screen, but it will not open.  There could be many other items not working, that I have not discovered yet. How should I go about getting these things working again?

Hello folks,  I seem to be having some issue with installing Windows 10. I found the Lenovo Upgrade Checklist and followed the steps point for point. (https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht104203) After downloading the update, it requested a restart and booted up into the update screen. The update got to around 20% and restarted as noted on the update screen.  Once again I'm presented with the Lenovo boot screen but this time it doesn't seem to be progressing, nothing has changed for the last 50 minutes and counting. What was other people's experience through the upgrade? Should I be prepared for a longer wait or is this abnormal to the process? Thanks for taking the time to read!

My W10 64bit Dell desktop installed KB3194798 on 10/12/2016 using Windows Update (WU) so now it is 1607 1493.321.
Today I tried WU to update my Lenovo G505 W10 laptop and I think it might have been KB3194798 that has killed my laptop, but I cannot even get the laptop to go past the black screen to the Lenovo display when trying to boot.
Here's the history...
Today I pushed the power button to turn it on and found that my wife had left it on and over the many hours it had gone into (I assume) a powersaving mode that made me think it needed to boot.
The screen showed that WU was up and some KB was at 94%. I left it alone and a few minutes later it told me the install was ready to go. So I clicked to let it WU do the install. The install failed saying some files were missing but it let me click on "retry".
I think it failed a 2nd time. The 3rd time it appeared to be installing OK, and I went to work for a few hours. On my return it showed that the laptop required a restart to complete the WU installs - that's pretty normal after letting WU do an install of a "cumulative", I think. So I clicked to restart and walked away. When I returned hours later, the laptop was still displaying the Lenovo boot-time logo and the spinner was spinning. I powered down the laptop by holding down the power button. Now the laptop will not even display the Lenovo boot-time logo. The little power LED is lit. The laptop is on wall power - not battery, btw.

Is there any solution to constant system failure to a level where the blue screen turns up and laptop can't be even turned on, after every system update?

I've checked the drivers and everything, but since the big update pack somewhere in March every update ends up in system failure. And the restore points before the updates are useless, because system doesn't recognize them.

After the second time this has happened and I've lost all the files that has not been backed up on hard drive I really start to think is there something wrong to Lenovo and Windows 7 combination?

I almost start to regret that I have legal version with update option.

Lenovo Releases BIOS Update to Allow Linux Installation on Windows 10 Devices

Back in September, complaints that reached the web (and even got confirmed by a supposed Lenovo official) claimed that installing Linux on a Yoga 900 was impossible because the operating system was blocked as part of a deal between Microsoft and Lenovo.

Both Microsoft and Lenovo denied that such an agreement existed, explaining that installing Linux was actually impossible because Windows 10 was running on a SSD locked in a proprietary RAID mode that could only be read by Redmond?s operating system.

And yet, following all this controversy Lenovo has released a new BIOS update for Yoga 900 that unlocks this proprietary RAID mode and allows the installation of Linux on the device.

?This BIOS creates an AHCI SATA Controller Mode selection to allow for the installation of the Linux operating system. This BIOS is NOT intended for use with machines running a Windows operation system,? the official changelog of the new BIOS version reads.

Drivers should allow Linux installation on any device
Lenovo confirmed from the very beginning that installation of Linux on its devices was possible with the right drivers, but the company didn?t say a single thing about updates that would be provided for the Yoga 900 Signature Edition.

?To improve system performance, Lenovo is leading an industry trend of adopting RAID on the SSDs in certain product configurations. Lenovo does not intentionally block cus... Read more

My Lenovo Y700 has been suffering from an issue since October of 2016, one which I imagine many people on this forum (or at least those of you who have also purchased this laptop model) are aware of. The issue itself wouldn't bother me, if it wasn't for Lenovo's gross negligence and seeming apathy towards customers with the issue. Here is the story behind my infuriation:I bought the Lenovo Y700-15ACZ laptop back in February from my local Best Buy, at the cost of nearly 900USD (including tax), to replace my old Dell laptop, and up until late October I was relatively satisfied with the purchase. Then Windows sent out their latest updates for the AMD graphics driver. At this time, I had no idea what was going on, so I brought the laptop to Geek Squad, at the same Best Buy from which I bought the computer. They explained to me that the issue was caused by an incompatibility between the built-in motherboard graphics card and the AMD video card, a result of the most recent graphics update at the time. So, I had them roll back the computer to before the update in question was released, and disable all automatic updates. It's a good temporary solution, but as many of us probably know, disabling updates means that security updates, as well as graphics updates, will not install, thus putting my computer at an increased risk of malware infection. So, after three months of leaving my Lenovo update-less, I decided that I've tempted fate long enough, and called Geek Squad to arrange an app... Read more

I scolded a friend for never doing the windows updates so she updated a couple of years backload of critical updates (including service pack 2?) and now has no sound. She gave me the Toshiba Sattelite Pro laptop, running XP, to see what I could do.

I found no multimedia driver so rolled back to intel(r) 82801ca/cam AC'97 audio controller and still no sound. I updated that driver to a Yamaha one(details at home) and still no sound. I then updated to WIndows Media Player 10 and still no sound (no sound on Real player either but it was worth a try). Other audio/video things in device manager seemed to have drivers and update wizard tells me there are no better drivers.

Worried that it may be the speakers I connected the laptop to the stereo and discovered when turning up the volume that there is sound but very, very faint. This applies to system sounds as well as music. All sound volumes are at max in the screen that looks like a graphic equaliser and I can't find any other hidden volume controls.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks in advance.

I tried but there are still 3 which cannot be deleted (KB3199986, KB3199209, KB3176936), because there is no option to delete/uninstall them. Looks like one of them (KB3199986) can be a cause of my problem. But I don't know what to do with it.So for now I don't want to make a reset of the system, there are a lot of programs installed. BUT if there is no other way, I will.Any thoughts? Thank you!

I just updated my HP laptop computer to the new windows 8 and have been having a ton of issues.

1. I have no sound when trying to listen/watch anything also the video seems extremely jumpy
2. I cannot make any windows updates (one of the optional updates has something to do with speakers so that might be able to to fix the above problem) Every time I hit update, my computer slows and the program TiWorker.exe or Windows modules installer worker begins eating up my CPU usage and the updates get stuck at 0%

I updated to windows 10 (probably my first mistake)Firstly I had the blinking screen issue - had to restore the computer to factory settings to fix - this is not the current issue, just gives some background. Since then I have lost ALL SOUND. Not only have I lost sound, but I have no devices appearing in the sound playback option anymore.   After reading a number of forum posts - this is what I have tried HARD RESET - no change REMOVING IDT high definition codec, restarting maching - no change REMOVING IDT high definition codec, HARD RESTART - no change Downloaded a file sp63932, it said it was incompatible RUN HP SUPPORT ASSISTANCE, it said there were no errors and no updates WINDOWS UPDATE - it said there are no more updates NO SOUND through speakers or LAPTOP (obviously, no sound playback device installed) -  no change Tried UPDATING the driver, through devices, -  get the error message in image     I'd really appreciate some help here. Have spent about 4 hours on this now and have gotten no where - just would like to have the sound back.  ;( ThanksErin

A:no sound after windows 10 update

Hi, Erin: Two other forum members lost sound on a desktop and notebook PC with the IDT audio controller after upgrading to W10. What worked for them was to install the W8.1 IDT audio driver from their PC's support and driver page. This is the one from your notebook's support page... This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp60188.exe

This morning I dowloaded a windows update about sound; something with real.. I don't remember.
After that I had no sound anymore.
Went back to the restore point and my sound is back.
Don't download that update.

Yep just hide the update. If your not having problems with sound don't fix somethings that's not broke

I updated the audio driver (Conexant Isst) and the problem is solved only temporarily. But very time I start my notebook, the sound vanishes.

Hi: See if this W8.1 driver works.  Install and reboot the PC. This package provides the driver for the IDT High Definition Audio solutions in supported models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp63932.exe
