Yoga 900 - REALLY Tiny Fonts and Input Boxes in some Applications

Q: Yoga 900 - REALLY Tiny Fonts and Input Boxes in some Applications

I operate with Windows 10 on my Lenovo YOGA 900-1315K Model: 80MK s/n: PFOEZAVXSome of my applications open up showing tiny incons and tiny fonts, which cannot be read and cannot be clicked/operated, as they are too small. I used the same applications on my previous laptop which also operated on Windows 10, and did not have that problem. One application I urgently need to work with is the SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 although the same features appear when I use the HP Print & Scan Doctor. One cannot read the font, it is sooo small. Please can someone help. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forums.

Since the screen on a Yoga 900 is a QHD+ you will need to adjust the display settings.

1) Go to Settings > Display
2) Set resolution to 1920*1080
3) Also, choose medium (125%) for the text and other items size.
4) Click Apply and Restart the system (for full effect)

If you are still not satisfied, you will have to repeat Step 3 and 4 with appropriate size (depending on if you now want them to be smaller or larger).

Check this microsoft article for some details -

I LOVE my new Yoga 900 except for one strange problem.  In  a few applications, such as Norton Security Suite when I went to install it and Yahoo Messenger, the font and especially the input boxes are so tiny as to be worthless.  Weirdly enough Messenger was fine until just now when it too shrunk.  I've tried increasing the display setting to something higher than the reccomended size of 250 per cent, this increases the desktop icon size as well as other applications but the affected ones are still tiny. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!

A:Yoga 900 - REALLY Tiny Fonts and Input Boxes in some Applications

I am having similar problems, but I believe it's caused by such a high resolution display which can't be run at its native resolution because of the extremely small text and icons that this produces.   But, running it in the recommended 250% zoom apparently has its own troubles, causing weird reponse windows, etc.   The VLC player for instance, has buttons so small that you can't tap them. I hope that there will be a workaround for this. Frankly, I wish I had a 1080p display, since so far I can't see the advantage of a 4K display on such a small screen.

Hello, I'm not entirely sure if this question or problem has been posted before, but for some reason with specific applications, the fonts or screen appear far away? I've been trying to mess around with resolutions, but nothing seems to help it. The apps I've found that this occurs with (at least for me) is Paint Tool Sai, Origin Games, and some of my games such as Sims 3 (I've tried full screen, but that seems to make it worse.)-Thank you in advance!

With the high resolution of the Yoga 2 some applications (often dialog boxes) have such tiny fonts in menu bar and sidebars that they are very difficult to see. Adjusting resolution and other font setting doesn't often help much - only the programs not needed to. Specifically Photoshop is one - and apparently this is a known issue with no real workaround. Quicken not only has tiny fonts in account list and register (it is possible to adjust this) but it appears to "squash" the text in places so that one line overrides the other. Also, a duplicate menu bar is partially visible under the top one. Any suggestions to overcome these limitations would be welcome.

I am having similar problems with tiny text and menus in some applications. Can lower the resolution and get bigger text, but then why did I pay for this high resolution screen?  Three calls to Lenovo support couldn't fix this.

I bought a T570 running on Windows 10 with a resolution of 3840 x 2160. It works quite well for most applications like Chrome, Windows and Office apps. In others however the fonts and icons are almost unreadable tiny. I noticed many of them are Java-based or rather old.  I tried playing around with the scaling in the display settings of Windows. Setting it to 210 % improved the readability of the apps that were already OK, but it had no effect to the problematic apps.  Has anyone else the same problems? Is there any way I can adjust the scaling of these apps?

Something changed in Windows 7 that is showing "tiny" fonts within various programs. It is not the programs themselves since it happens in unrelated programs. Also many of the programs fonts are just fine, only a select few are very, very small. Within Windows XP the fonts are just fine.

I'm suspecting that either some install deleted or changed a particular font. I tried System Restore, but no help.

If anyone else has experienced this phenomenon I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Would a "Repair" process as shown on this forum fix fonts?

Thanks. Jim

A:Tiny Fonts

Hi Jim, Welcome to SF,

I suspect it might be the DPI settings.
Try this Right Click on Desktop > Personalize > Click on Display (left side corner)
There try to change it to Medium 125 % or Larger 150 %

Hope this helps

Edit : Forgot to mention this requires a reboot to take effect

Suddenly today many of what should be small fonts have become extremely tiny - so much so that I can barely read what's written. Other fonts on the same screen are fine. And what's tiny now in IE looks just fine in Firefox and Opera. What's going on?

I've looked at different web pages and different sites - both commercial and private, both online and off. Same thing.

Anyone have any ideas? Is this a patch problem, or can I reset something?

A:Ie 6.0 Some Fonts Are Tiny

You can adjust the font size in Firefox (and in that other browser, Internet something... I think), by holding the control key while moving the mouse scroll wheel.

If your mouse has no scroll wheel then Ctrl+'+' (hold Control, press plus) increases the size and Ctrl+'-' decreases it.

Hello. My desktop fonts, icons and taskbar became teeny tiny when I first startted initial set-up. I have no clue or how this happened. It's possible I accidentally did something, but to be honest, I did pc/lt set-ups for a large corp for 15 yrs
and I have never seen this. I was eventually able to resize the desktop icons, but the taskbar and ALL fonts remain miniscule.

Please, does anyone have a suggestion?

First of all, apologies if this has been covered off before.

My sons kindergarten has an issue with one of the little kids (most likely one of mine!) who has fiddled with the PC desktop and rendered all of the icons and the fonts so small that is is totally unreadable/unworkable

I have (with my fairly limited ability) attempted to resolve this by right clicking on the desktop to change the appearance.

But the fonts and windows are so tiny that I cannot read any of the content at all, so cannot see/read what I am doing!

So I guess my question is this: how do I resore the desktop component of Windows XP?

Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.....

Hi there

What is it with coders that they seem to be UNABLE to realize that not everybody can see Tiny Microscopic fonts .

Photoshop is one culprit - here's another

Remember people have larger monitors these days and THIS type of coding should be OUTLAWED

I have quite decent eyesight but have trouble looking at this on even a comparatively SMALL monitor by todays standards (24 inch). On my 60 inch I couldn't see it at all.

I'm sure some of these developers must be working with Opticians to ensure people have to wear glasses after looking at some of these screens for a while.

A:Why do developers always make stuff in such TINY Fonts

They are just very secretive and don't want others to pinch their ideas or code if the person looked over their sholder ha! ha!

I have activated/enabled/Listened to the Stereo Mix but nothing comes through. I do not want to use the input jack as a microphone jack, I want to use it as Right and Left LINE IN. How do I set this up in the Sound settings and what are the connections that need to be made on the plug?

I am running Windows 7 and have been using Asian fonts in the titles of files for over a year with no problems. Something in the latest service pack update (which automatically updated this week) turned these all to boxes. (The Asian fonts still worked just fine in documents and on the internet, but not on file/folder names on my computer desktop and libraries.) I backed out of the entire update and everything is fine again. How do I identify which of the multitude of updates is causing the problem so that I can ditch just that portion?

I am trying to solicit the month in MM format from the user using an input box but after I enter the month, the Macro just stops without an error. I am trying to have the month value placed in the filename path so I can search a folder for specific files.

ThisWorkbook.Sheets(Sheet%).Range(RangePaste$).Value = _

Set wkbCopy = Nothing

'try to find next workbook in folder

A:Solicit user info using input boxes

First of all, "month" is not an acceptable variable name. It's what's called a reserved word; you should at least name it something like strMonth. Not that I think that's what's causing your problem, but it's important to learn to name variables correctly.

The problem is in your syntax. You're asking the app to open the file called W:\Comptrol\Corp_Rep\MONTHEND\2002\Monthly Stewardship\OPEX\*month*.xls--you have your variable enclosed in quotes, and therefore it's looking for the literal string "month".

The line in question should read

Workbook$ = Dir(Path$ & "*" & month & "*.xls")

though I believe that using the asterisks this way will still cause you problems, as you cannot control which file is returned at which moment. Not a problem, I suppose, if only one file in the folder contains the month in question.

I'm having trouble with certain apps not opening dialog boxes. The two places I've noticed this so far are:

Adobe Photoshop CC - Clicking Save As - nothing happens when clicked. In this case, I can force it to close, reopen and it will then work. Luckily it auto-recovers projects that were open.

Chrome browser - clicking an Upload button on a website application to upload an image. Normally it would open a windows browser dialog but there's a quick blink and nothing happens. Closing and reopening Chrome doesn't fix it, but restarting the computer does.

I think it's a Windows issue and not an issue with Chrome and Photoshop since both started acting up around the same time. It doesn't happen right away. It will work for a while. If I restart my computer, it will work normally for a day or so and then the error will start in one program. It's happening in Chrome for me right now, but if I switch over to Firefox, it works fine for me. So maybe it is a windows issue but an interaction with certain programs.

Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Certain fonts on my Windows 7 SP1 computer have been messed up for a while. The fonts seem to be too large and bolded. This is not a system-wide issue, only certain programs exhibit it. For some reason, application installers are where the problem most commonly asserts itself. This started happening when I transferred my user account from Windows XP last year, so maybe it has something to do with that. I recall having this problem on XP too. Can you look at my example and possibly provide a solution or insight as to the source of the problem? Thanks!

Here is an example

A:Fonts messed up with certain applications.

You should try rebuilding the font cache.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Local folder

And then delete the fntcache.dat file.

Restart your computer and a new fntcache.dat will be created.

See if that helps.

For all of our desktops we have the display set to turn off after 1 hour of inactivity to save power and extend the life of the monitor.  With the Tiny-In-One 24 & M700 Tiny, once the monitor turns off, it won't wake back up by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard.  The Tiny is still running just fine I can remote to it from another machine but even remoting to it and logging in does not wake the screen.  This is with the TIO running in AIO mode.  The only way to wake the screen is to use the user controls on the front of the monitor to switch to DP mode and back to AIO mode.
Is this a know bug?  Running Windows 7 and I've already reinstalled all drivers and ran the lenovo system update utility and everything is up-to-date.  I also set the display to turn off after only a minute to do more testing and about 1 in every 10 tries, the monitor will wake up normally.  The rest of the time I have to use the user controls on the front of the monitor.

I've just built a new computer with Windows 7 and a gigabyte brand radeon HD4890 and have been having the same issue as some other users with regard to the over/underscan.

I managed to correct the inch or so of unfilled space when displaying the desktop by using the under/overscan utility in CCC (thanks to info on this forum ^_^) but found that the problem still exists when I ran my first full-screen applications.

I installed, updated, and ran Spore: Galactic Adventures to take a look at how my system was going to handle everything, but found that the dreaded inch was back. The really odd thing was that when I switched Spore to windowed mode, the inch had gone and I could maximise to full-screen. Of course, the window header and taskbar kind of detract from the game, but this isn't necessarily an issue for Spore (which can hardly be described as immersive).

I am, however, concerned that this issue may pop up in other games where the window header and taskbar will detract from the game (if it operates well in windowed mode at all).

I plan on investigating further later today, possibly in the direction of motherboard and chipset drivers, but also testing with other games. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what could be going wrong here.

A:HDMI Input not filling monitor in applications

See if the tv itself has an underscan/overscan setting.

If so, use that and don't use any overscan in CCC at all.

I'm running ArcGIS and all of the menus and icons are incredibly tiny.  I've tried tweaking the resolution and magnification and there are no consistent improvements.  Every once in awhile some of the menus and icons will resize to something that I can actually see, while others remain tiny.  This is very frustrating as I rely on ArcGIS for my research.  I'd really like to keep this laptop because I like its size and portability, but if this issue can't be resolved then I'll be forced to return it.  Has anyone else had an issue like this and, if so, what did you do to resolve it? Also, I've experienced graphic issues where it said that the driver crashed and Adobe Lightroom is also not displaying my photos in edit mode.  So far I'm very frustrated with this laptop from a technical standpoint.

Perhaps you should consider returning the Yoga 900 for an older laptop that has a lower resolution, because the issues you mention are consistent with two things:
1) the Intel graphics driver for the new generation of Intel's "Skylake" CPUs and on-board graphics is still a work in progress. You are likely to see the error message "the display driver has quit working but has recovered" quite frequently on the Yoga 900 and laptops from other manufacturers using "Skylake". Newer versions of the driver from Intel improve things, but I don't think that we are quite out of the woods yet.
2) the QHD+ resolution of the Yoga 900 screen (3200x1800) is likely to give some older generation desktop software some issues, if the software has not been updated to use the scaling system built into newer generations of Windows. Teeny-tiny menus and icons are the result. Unless ArcGIS are planning to update their software to the modern age soon, you might be less frustrated by running it on a laptop that has a lower screen resolution.

Hello, My laptop is less than a month old. All updates are installed, including ANY recent audio driver updates I could find on the Lenovo website (non critical), however when I try to listen to any audio either with or without headphones there is no sound. When I run the January audio drive update it tells me that it cannot install because there is no audio hardware detected. May task bar displays the volume/speaker icon with a tiny red X and cannot self diagnose a problem. Please help, as I am not sure what the next step is..... yes I have restarted a dozen times.

Does this happen on all programs, or only this one? The system font seems to be readable.

Hi all, I'm happy with the general touch functionality of my device (using my fingers), but when I use the pen for writing or drawing (in Reader, Drawboard PDF, Word), the input often stops while I'm still drawing a line. I then have to lift the pen up and make contact between the pen tip and the display again. Then, it usually works for some fractions of an inch before it stops again.  Is there a solution to that behavior? Thanks!

Brand new yoga 900, win10 - keyboard input very slow. Slower than a one finger typist. I have tried Filter Keys in Ease of Access but that is off. I also turned off the firewall and still no better response.  Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

Here is how the problem appeared:1. I received a new 20FQCTO1WW. First-time booted fine, touch and pen were working at this time.2. Repartitioned the drive and installed Windows (10 pro, the retail version)3. Installed wifi driver from Lenovo support page (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...)4. Installed Lenovo System Update and used that to get all the drivers, etc. At this point device manager shows nothing missing, I see all touch screen, pen, Wacom device and all the things but touchpad and pen input doesn't register anything.  I suspect firmware/driver issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Just as a side note, touchscreen as well as brightness adjustment doesn't work out of the box on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, if anybody has ran into this and found solutions.
