t440p heat

Q: t440p heat

Hi,3 months ago I bought a t440p with 4700qm, nvidia gt730m, 8gb ram,...I have windows 7 installed on it and it bothers me a little, that surface of the left side of keyboard and also whole mousepad gets pretty warm. It's not comfortable to type nor to work with mouse. I know, that proc is 47W and also nvidia is there to bring up the heat, but all I'm doing is browsing on the internet and I have the nvidia disabled in Control panel -> devices. Is this normal? I've checked the temperature of the proc, and it's normal (around 52 - 56C), but it's not normal to me, that the surface is so hot.Anyone else also has this problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

  Hello,

I upgraded my lenovo thinkpad t440p (20AN00CBRI) from Windows 7 professional x64 to windows 10 . Now, after all the updates (provided by microsoft and lenovo) to the laptop I encounter the following problems :

>> the Power Manager aplication from windows 7 it's not present anymore on windows 10. I understand that on Windows 10 this it is not needed anymore but this is a big issue : " The CPU FAN is not working at the same speed like on windows 7 and It is very slow (!??!?!) " because of this the laptop heats very bad and it is very deficult to use specially for typing . :(
>> Another thing, I thing the heat dissipation in the design is poorly done for a laptop meant for business .
>> Also, the heat (left side of the laptop CPU, GPU and SSD ) always present by heating I mean > 50 Celsius degrees even in idle mode with the battery out from the laptop and no aditional software installed but only the default upgraded windows 10 .

Please let me know if this is " known heating issue with lenovo thinkpad t440p product code 20AN00CBRI " with this product. I want to get a replacement but hopefully without the heating problem . And let's not forget this is an expensive product designed for business ussage and it is kind of disappointment that it's not delivering the necessary fiability for a business product !!!

Thank you,
Best regards,

I have a new gateway notebook with an 1.6ghz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 cpu... ive recently checked (10 mins ago) my temps inside this thing and my cpu core temp is running at 160F. an insanely high temp. is there a way to improve cooling in this thing without underclocking (im a overclocker not an underclocker) ive never seen it this hot until now...any help would be great i curently have the computer sitting on a honeywell fan to keep it cool... and im down to 110F yay! but this is no solution

A:HEAT HEAT HEAT Gateway heat woes

Yes, that converts to a bit over 71 degrees Centigrade... and is getting to the edge of its range... You will have earlier failure.
That model simply does not have the cooling system you need with three of four fans to move the air out.
If you have dogs or cats, clean the guts of the case with Dust Off every week... to remove the dust and hair.
But there isn't much help for you. Lower priced laptops never make good gaming machines.

Aluminium Heat Sink V Copper Heat Sinks for CUP. If you change from a Aluminium Heat Sink to a copper heat sink for yoru CPU in your tower computer (not the slimeline one) the fat boy model.  How much MORE % better does copper work better than aluminium??

A:Aluminium Heat Sink V Copper Heat Sinks for CUP.

A little. Copper has roughly twice the thermal conductivity of aluminum: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/thermal-conductivity-metals-d_858.html Also use a high silver content thermal compound applied very thin but fully covering the processor core In practice you will see a very small difference in the operating temperature of the computer. Unless you are running hot it is probably not worth the trouble. Aluminum is generally good enough. Airflow is also at least as important as the metal used in the heatsink.

It's been awhile since I installed my last CPU -

I just bought a P4. The instructions for mounting
the heat sink (& fan) do not refer to using any
type of (I can't think of the word) that white
compound I used last time to give good thermal
conductivity from the cpu to the heat sink.

Is that stuff not used any more?

If it is, what do I call it and where would I get some?

Thanks!!

A:Use "heat transfer" compound between P4 & heat sink?

If you got a retail version cpu, that comes with the heatsink/fan, it likely has a "thermal pad" built in, so it wouldn't need thermal interface material. So if you got a little square of something on the bottom of the heatsink, that's all you need, but if not, just a bare heatsink, put some thermal material on it. IIRC, my retail p4 had a little square that looked like a piece of aluminum stuck on the heatsink, which is a thermal pad.

I just picked up a t440p, and I am hoping to do some upgrades on it.  I got a Transcend 512 GB SSD for the M.2 slot.   It installs just fine, and Windows 10 sees the drive.  The only issue is that when the M.2 SSD is installed, there is no wireless adapter in the system.  When I remove the M.2 SSD, the wireless adapters are back. Is it not possible to have both in the system and functional?  I am hoping to make the M.2 SSD the OS drive, and use the other SSD drives (2.5") for storage.

Is it possible to upgrade my CPU and RAM on my T440p?

A:T440p CPU and RAM upgrade

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can upgrade both. Max RAM is 16GB (2x 8GB), and you could install any CPU from the below list:

i5-4210M
i5-4300M
i5-4330M
i7-4600M
i7-4700MQ
i7-4710MQ
i7-4800MQ
i7-4900MQ

I'm only listing few models for the sake of keeping the list short. Basically any Haswell CPU should work.

To do this upgrades you need Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here:  click me!

Hi,I recently purchased a used T440p, more specifically a model 20AW-S0RK03. Unfortuntatly it arrived damaged and, naive as I was, I accepted a small partial refund and figured it wouldn't be too much on an issue to replace it...However, it seems that this part is rather difficult to obtain and furthermore I now realize that the palmrest for the T440p exists with several different internal designs (number/placement of screw holes etc.).If possible I would much prefer not having to disassemble it twice - once to figure out the part number and once again when the part arrives - so if anyone can inform me what part number I need for my specific model (20AW-S0RK03), then that would be a huge help.Any tips on where to buy (if allowed) will also be greatly appreciated. Note that I'm a student, so both cost and delivery time (I'm in Europe) needs to be considered. Thanks in advance. I really hope that someone can assist me with this tiresome situation.Rasmus

Before I buy and install an M.2 card, I wanted to ask just what do I need to know or do before and after the installation. The installation itself is basically simple but I'm not real sure how to set it up or what it can be used for? Do I really need it? I've read several articles about this and found more confusion. Some claim to use it as a boot drive for storing Windows, while others claim it is only good for existing drive cache. I'm wondering if adding the M.2 will even be of any use or improvement to me. Does anyone know anything about this? Please keep it like me, very simple. I'm not even sure which one to get for my T440p. I found this.. will it work fine? Lenovo SK hynix 128GB M.2 2242 PCIe NVMe SSD w/ 2280 Bracket, HFM128GDHTNGI won''t use the included 2280 bracket as it's not for my machine. Some of those terms are kinda foreign to me. Any insights or info is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have a T440p. It has an SSD drive that it came with originally. Now I wish to secure erase it. I've tried with the ThinkPad Drive Erase Utility but when I try to boot with it I only get the following error message:ERROR: This utility works for Disk Encryption Drive or Solid State Drive only. I've confirmed that the SSD functions normally, so it's odd that the erase utility won't recognize it. The web page for the utility specifically says it supports T440p. I've also tried with Parted Magic, but it only says that the drive is "unsupported". Does anyone have any advise on what to do here?

Hello everyone, I need to ask you a question about ram voltage of a t440p. It came with 4gb, and wanted to change one slot to a bigger memory module.Techincal data say this laptop uses ONLY DDR3L (1.35v) because of the Intel i5-4300 (which also states this in its tech sheet). My question arised when I opened the backplate and found there are already 2x2gb modules of DDR3 (1.5v) working in it. When searching for data sheets of the rams, both work only at 1.5v.What's happening? I really don't underestand if they are running in a lowered voltage state, or why they are working at all. Here's one of the modulesThank you in advance

A:[QUESTION] t440p RAM upgrade

Is this a second hand T440p? (I don't recall Lenovo installing Kingston Value RAM modules in ThinkPads...)

Basically there is nothing you should worry about, a T440p can use both 1.35v and 1.5v RAM if I remember correctly. And 1.5v RAM can also run at 1.35v.

If you plan to upgrade your RAM I would remove those modules (they're Kingston's cheap RAM line) and install 2x 4GB or 2x 8GB (the latter is the max RAM supported by this model).

Hi all, A few days ago, the rectangular plug on my old charger finally separated from the cable, marking the end of an era in laptop power supplies. Having used third-party adapters before with good results, I ordered Elecbrain's 90W slim-tip adapter as a replacement off of Amazon. The new adapter charges my computer, but sometimes (maybe about 1 out of 3 or 4 times) fails to charge effectively ("plugged in, not charging"). I often have to wiggle the computer end of the plug in the port a bit to get it to charge at all; it's also much harder to insert the plug into the computer than any of my previous cables. 1) Has anyone had any negative experiences with the Elecbrain adapter, and 2) in the likely event that I return the Elecbrain adapter, there any difference between these three official Lenovo adapters: 0B46994, 888015012, 4X20E75140? One of them is not labeled as "slim tip" and one of them is for the ThinkCentre instead of the ThinkPad, but the thumbnails all look identical. My machine is a Thinkpad T440P purchased in late 2015, model number 20AN006NUS.

First of all greetings to all of you on this forum! This is my very first topic in here and, quite frankly, might be one of the only threads I'll ever make, that's because I'm on an impasse where I need some advice before doing anything that might mess things up. Anyway! Back to the situation at hand. While working earlier this week I accidently spilled coffee all over my computer (thanks body for having a sudden urge to sneeze just when I was taking a sip of it). Presently I shut my computer down, removed the keyboard and dried everything that I could below the keyboard/"fluid-shield" and squeezed some paper towel below it keys as well. After all that I hooked everything back together and turned the computer on to check for failures and unfortunately one little key wasn't working: my dear little left key. Luckly it wasn't a letter key and I could carry on with my work for up until I had some time to try to resurrect it (which is today). I have to mention that my warrant expired an year ago and I do have some experience working with electronics, so it wouldn't hurt to disassemble the keyboard itself and check for coffee-blockage in the circuitry, which I suspect it is the case because otherwise I'd expect a whole array of keys to go bad all at once. The thing is, after removing the board from the computer I can't remove the plastic back (the one that slides and hides the screws) save for the lateral plastic clamps. Digging the web for a solution didn't... Read more

I also do not have another device that fits the AC adaptor so I cannot determine if the power cord is malfunctioning or if it is the charging port of the computer. Is this something that can be repaired? Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time, Bonnie

It's  running fine when connected to ac power and battery removed. I tried my charger and battery on another laptop and they are working, I'm experiencing the same issue when using different battery and charger. I tried to push power button for 11th times and WA like this but no luck. I was thinking to update the BIOS, but I'm not sure if it possible without battery..

Hi, Yesterday my T440p suddenly stoped charging while battery is connected. If i disconnect battery it works like normal. I have tried uninstalling battery drivers. It worked for couple of minutes, but then it stoped charging again. Link to video tutorial. I'm using windows 10.

As I understand it, the T440p has three options for internal storage : (1) Internal SATA slot for a 2.5" drive.(2) SATA slot for a 2.5" drive in the Ultrabay/caddy.(3) M.2 slot.My question: Do all of these slots work at SATA3 6Gbps ? Is the interface for all three SATA3 6Gbps ? Will new SATA3 6Gbps SSDs work at SATA3 6Gbps speeds for all three  ?  What is the maximum capacity for each slot ?

So I got myself a T440p and upgraded the i5 to a quad-core i7, also got a new charger (it requires a 135W for quadcore+Nvidia). For some reason it constantly throttles the CPU down when under load to the highest non-turbo multiplier. For example, when running Prime95 with the multiplier maxed out (ThrottleStop) on both the T440p and the T530 I've been using, on the T530 it stably stays on 35 and on the T440p it goes down to 27 while running. 3740QM vs. 4800MQ, both are 2.7-3.7GHz chips, OS is the same (W7Prox64) So far I've tried the following:setting stuff in Windows power management (minimum CPU states to 100%, high performance profile etc.)using ThrottleStop and setting the multiplier to maximumgetting the newest driversenabling everything enable-able in bios.I have no further ideas on how to squeeze the turbo out of it and I just need that, longer rendering means slower work, and that speed decrease adds up to hours and hours after a while when you do work day by day. And anyway I paid for a product they said can do this performance so I think that's enough explaining in itself.I'm feeling I've been missing some really obvious setting to get that speed, where that might be?
