I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Turn off computer.

Turn back on - as soon as you've pressed the power button - tap F8

This will present you with a number of boot options. Select

"Last known good configuration" this and see if it works.

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more

XP won't load past splash screen, only in safe mode
I was working on my laptop last night no problems, I shut down normally and return a few hours later, now the thing wont start past XP splash screen (the little blue bars moves across the screen forever), the only way I can get my system going is to start in safe mode. The last time I ran the system I did not install any new hardware or software. I have been battling some spyware recently, namely one called Antivirus 2009 from inetavirus.com. I removed it via Malwarebytes the other day, it came back once, I removed it again and it seems to be gone still. What can I do to fix this? I also cannot run Malwarebytes in safe mode, whenever I do it it freezes my about a minute into the scan on a the follwing item

Hi,

Please help.

My desktop has been randomly rebooting on its own & now I can't boot up

I'm on Win 7

I've tried to restart several times. I'm afraid to do the repair option b/c the last time I did that last year, I almost lost all my data. But I guess I have no choice now.

It could be the heat in this apt. as my landlords are slum landlords, they refuse to fix anything & I've been dealing with 90-107 degree heat b/c the AC won't stop running & I can't afford to run it 24/7.

I don't know what to do, now I can't work

Try booting it while repeatedly tapping F8 that should get you into safe mode, it could be a damaged driver that the system can't load.

I dont know alot about computers so please bare with me. I deleted alot of old programs (such as games etc) which I do not use anymore, *through the control panel add/remove programs*, then did a virus scan, and deleted what was found, and decided to go to www.microsoft.com and get the sp3.. after I installed, when I restarted my computer later, it gave me a black screen saying that it was shut down unexpectedly, and offers safe modes, last good config, and start normally, I have tried all three options, with safe mode, it freezes the computer, with the other two, it boots to the windows logo screen, then it will restart the entire system. Is there any way to fix this? I did not get windows disks or anything like that when I bought the computer, I did create recovery disks, but have since lost one of them, so they aren't much help.

Thanks

lickitysplit87,

It's going to be difficlt without the XP CD, as that has the Recovery Console that we need in order to get your computer past the logo screen and into the OS.

Have a read here. If you feel confident that you can get the ISO burnt to disk, come back and we'll continue.

Whats going on guys,
I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen

example:
and my CPU would reboot, i even tried the other Safe Mode options (command prompt, networking, etc.) I still couldnt accomplish logging into a Safe Mode. But I could still log into Windows Normally.

BUT Now (after changing my SAFEBOOT option in MSCONFIG, thinking i couldnt log into Safe Mode that way), I cannot even log into Windows XP (PERIOD.) Normally or via Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or any-other way. My CPU loads up and once it reaches the Windows XP Splash Screen it appears to be normally loading, then my screen goes blank and my system reboots, It reboots in an endless loop, i could leave this sucker on for a whole month and it would still be in an infinite boot loop between the start-up of the CPU and the Windows XP Splash Screen..lol

Hi everyone,As the title suggests, I'm getting a black screen after the windows logo appears. At first, there's no cursor, but if I put the computer to sleep and turn it back on, I get a cursor when it wakes up--still a black screen though. Here are my specs:CPU: AMD Hexacore 1090TRAM: 8GB GSkills RipjawsMB: Gigabyte GA-78LMT USB3GPU: MB Integrated Radeon 3000 SeriesUnbootable HD: Seagate 2 TB Barracuda Windows 8.1Bootable HD: 7 year-old 500GB Hitachi Windows 8.1Here's how it went down: I was watching HBOGo on Chrome, then went to the Netflix Windows 8 app (don't judge my lethargic chain of events). However, Netflix immediately closed and wouldn't start. I figured it was something with the graphics, so I restarted my computer. After the restart, for some reason, it ran Chkdsk on my other HD. After running that, it went through my normal startup and blacked out after the logo. I ran a bootlog and found that dxgkrnl.sys loads once, then attempts to load another 4 times and fails each time. Other than that, everything loads correctly. Then I deleted some AMD stuff (perhaps stupidly) and I get more errors in the bootlog, from AMD stuff. I'd like to just clear all the AMD stuff and just have the bare Windows drivers load. Here's what I've tried:1) I've tried startup repair, which attempts some fixes, but fails.2) I tried to enter Safe-mode and low graphics mode, the computer simply launches into "Automatic Startup Repair" and fails after the "Diagnosing PC" dialogue.3) Reset my BIOS... I tried going in in safe mode and this worked, but i need an internet connection
I thought maybe it has too much stuff on that account, ie hogging memory so i deleted a lot of stuff like 30 gigs of stuff but it still wont load
I need the internet connection at home so i tried going into safe mode with networking (i think that gives a net connection but maybe it emans something else)
i have ran spy bot s&d and deleted everything, also 2 other programmes + ms anti sypware new beta
thinking it was a virus but it cant be.

i tried a lot of the options you get in F8 but only the normal safe mode seems to work. i cant do a system restore as i deleted them yesterday as they were like a few gigs of stuff on it and i cant seem to find my xp cd so i cant reinstall windows, at least for 4 weeks as ican get a copy when i get home.

Hey everyone!
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place - not sure what exactly is wrong!
So my computer was working - I was playing a game when the system just froze up. I manually restarted and once I got to the Windows XP logo screen (where the blue dots go running across in that little bar underneath), the computer just stayed on that screen no matter how long I waited. I've restarted several times and still keep getting stuck on that screen.
I tried going into safe mode to see if I could maybe do a system restore or just look to see if I could figure out what's wrong, but all I get is a black screen with "safe mode" in all four corners of the screen and my mouse cursor. Same thing when I try to go into VGA mode.
I'm wondering if my video card died? The computer runs fine if I'm just doing normal things like watching a movie or just surfing the Internet. However, I'll play a game and often times it'll do the freeze-up thing and I'll have to restart. But every time that has happened, the computer started back up normally - until now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I was uninstalling old games via control panel, at which point it said to reboot to finish. When it was restarted, Windows will now no longer boot past a certain stage. It shows that windows is loading normally, but then it stops at the blue Windows 7 welcome screen (just the blue image with the little bird, no "welcome" or words at all).

I can't do anything after that. When I hit f8, the only options are to launch windows repair, and start normally. Both options bring me to this screen. I have NO idea what to do at this point, as I can't even get into safe mode to run system restore. Any ideas?? Is there another way to get into safe mode?

It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

Have you tried selecting Last Known Good Configuration from the Safe Mode menu? It sometimes works. Also, if you put in your W7 DVD and select Repair rather than Install after making the language choice, StartUp repair might help and if it does not, try System Restore.

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my computer.
Some History-
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.
AMD 3500+

2 GB Twinmoss Ram
200 Sata HD
DVD
6600GT Sli Pixel View Graphics PCIe
Super Flower 500 Watt PSU.

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.

About 2 months ago my computer, whilst playing a game, would turn off the monitor and shut down, the game in question was City of Heroes. Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again.

Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at 99%. I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall.
I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers (the pop up about insufficient power was still there). Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites.

On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank.
I then restarted and up came 'the Windows did not start properly last time' and listed the Safe mode options. Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes.
Now thinking the PSU was at fault, I ran out to get a new 600 Watt PSU and the same thing happened.

Welcome to TSF.

So you can't even use the Recovery Console at all? If you can, try the following:

Quote:

Put your Win XP cd in and boot, goto the recovery console, then get to the c prompt, pressuming thats your system drive! and type the following.
C:\windows\System32\Drivers\ntfs.sys

if that dont work goto recovery point again and type fixboot.

hi.
I know a bit about computers but i ain't the best an ain't bragging.
But i know a problem when i have one.
I wanted to get into safe mode in windows but cant.
I press f8 then select my operating system then the drivers start to load windows in safe mode.

The problem i get is it hangs on one driver, so I'm thinking this driver could be missing or is corrupt.
I have run chkdsk an have use the options to fix all errors but windows still wont start in safe mode.

I checked for Virus and Spy-ware but still no joy.
Also if this driver is missing or corrupt i cant replace it because i cant get into safe mode.

I have also tried the sfc /scannow in cmd but keep getting the message please insert windows xp disk in CD drive D:
The disk is in there i put it in ???? ????

Also don't ask me to do a restore as i have no restore points to go back to as i cleaned up the comp a few days ago.

Any suggestions as to whats going on??

Thanks in advanced

Around a week ago as I closed the computer down one evening, there was a MS update running, I allowed the update and the computer shut down.

The next morning my laptop would not start up. It would load to the password login screen and no further. I was able to go into safe mode and run system restore and this would then allow me to use the computer as normal, I was not able to use a recent restore point though. On rebooting I would be faced with the same problem.

I have updated all my security programs in safe mode with networking and run them but so far they have found nothing.

I have used Microsoft Security Essentials
Malwarebytes (the database was corrupted and was downloaded again)
 Adaware
 Superantispyware
WinPatrol has not notified me of any suspicious activity

in addition I have run a couple of online scans (I forget which ones)

I have run start up repair but apparently this has not fixed my problem. I am using online armour as a firewall. I am not convinced that I have any virus and my security is pretty comprehensive but I am at a loss to what to try next and would appreciate some help if possible.

I was browsing the web and my laptop froze. I held the powe button to turn it off and now when i turn it on, it only goes to the windows logo and no farther. If i leave it alone, after 20 minutes it goes to a black screen with a cursor. I have tried starting in safemode as well and it only loads some of the files before freezing. I have also tried startup repair. After a few minutes it gives a few options such as system restore. I tried a restore and it still doesn't load. How do i fix this?

Hello vocalized and welcome to Seven Forums. Sorry you're having these issues.

One of the Forum experts prepared this troubleshooting tutorial. It's time consuming but has helped many with their startup problems.

Hello All,
I am running Windows 7 RTM on a 1.75Ghz, 3Gb RAM box. Windows 7 was working fine for me, but this morning i just restarted because i thought it was acting slow. It had a proper shut down(I use verbose mode..)But then it never restarted. It just showed the HP logo and stopped.. I am even unable to get into the safe mode box(by pressing F8). I have a windows Xp bootable CD right now... and that doesnt boot either (Yes, I have ensured the booting order is correct.) What could be the cause?
Is it a hardware failure - As in harddisk crash? Because the computer just sits idle!! Strangely, I went to BIOS and did a disk diagnostic test which it passed.. But the harddisk LED didnt blink during the test(It should blink right?)... Please help me, i am really stuck here...

A:Windows 7 wont start.. unable to get to safe mode even!

Some kind of bios setting. Check to see the plug and play os is set to yes. If that's not the cause, use "standard optimized default" as the global bios setting and see how it carries on.

Can't hurt to actually update the bios from the motherboard manufacturer's website too.

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Any ideas?

Hi,  My ~3 year old ideapad purchased from Newegg seems to have gone south. I have Windows 8.1 installed. Last night I shut it off to bring it to class and when I got to class and tried to boot up, it wouldn't finish starting up, would sit at the logo screen for about 30 seconds before shutting down and starting over. The fans power up like it is going to start. It repeats this loop indefinitely. I tried holding the reset button next to the charger port and still nothing.  Suggestions?  Thanks

I have a windows 7 notebook that won't load into windows or load safe mode successfully its ends with a black screen and hangs forever. System restore wont even fix it. What command can I use to troubleshoot this other than reinstalling windows. Thanks

A:windows 7 wont start up or load safe mode successfully

If you have an install disk and can access Setup (possibly tapping F2 as you switch on) to change the Boot order to CD/DVD before the HDD, then insert the disk - Save and Exit, it will then reboot up with it and you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD/DVD.

Select the Repair option and then Startup Repair in the Recovery Environment.

It will give you the option to select a restore point which you can opt for or pass on that and let it complete the Startup Repair.

If it reports that it was unable to repair, then you could give the restore point a try.

Hi, wondering if anyone can help me. I can't seem to get past the welcome/user account screen on windows (xp) except in safe mode. A split second after I've clicked on the loader it immediately says logs straight back off again! Only way I can get into computer is in safe mode. I've done a virus scan and removed what I needed to and also ran a registry scan. But nothing so far has helped. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not that computer literate re terminology so step by step instructions will be needed!! Many thanks

Boot from the win 7 dvd and do a repair install if you have it.

Hi,

I have been trying to repair my XP installation with an XP CD. Once the repair completed and restarted the computer, it now hangs at the XP logo screen. The blue boxes scroll across the loading bar, and occasionally slow to a halt. After about 15-20 minutes, a blue screen with a small windows logo in the upper left corner tells me that windows setup is restarting. This hangs for about 10 minutes, then goes to a black screen.

When I try to run Safe Mode, I get a message that "Windows setup cannot run in safe mode", and must restart.

I would appreciate very much if anyone can help me through this problem.

Thank you very much,
-Kenny

A "repair install" only works about 1/2 the time. Better to back up your data, zero wipe and reinstall.

My uncles computer gets just past the startup screen to safe mode and gives me three options, safe more, a 2nd safe mode option, and "restart computer with last known safe settings". However, choosing any of these options just brings you back to the same screen.

Help anyone??? Please!
