For those troubled by HDMI Sync Issues, Intel HD/3000/4000 etc

Q: For those troubled by HDMI Sync Issues, Intel HD/3000/4000 etc

I want to leave this post here for the many folks, on several OS's and various platforms, having issues getting HDMI-out working with HD LCD/LED/OLED monitors/HDTV's.
For one reason or another, it was a tough subject to web-search on but eventually I found numbers of fellow travelers who had the "bug" - unable to hookup external monitors to Intel embedded graphics on core i3/i5/i-whatever.

My test mule was a dell inspiron 1121 with i3 330um, intel hd.
In a nutshell, sparing you a lot of detailed debug/root-cause and some near shouting matches with Dell et al:
- The issue is intel's fault. Poor implementation of HDCP in the chipset, resulting in very iffy synchronization that is monitor-specific, and sensitive to OEM's implementation of HotKey mode-switching. Still an issue in the latest from Intel.
- Small things can make it better or worse
- It can be solved for some monitors on some [I would say the majority] of notebooks/laptops
- To be sure everything is as late as possible, uninstall the Display Adapter using Windows Device Manager, and watch carefully on reboot to see that the MS generic VGA driver is used. I guess to be pure OCD one would want to go through the windows system files and make sure no remnant of the OEM [dell/hp/lenovo/etal] drivers are available.
- Having downloaded from Intel the latest build for Windows 8 [in our case] or Windows 7 [8 was just formally published], Use Device manager to Update Driver and point it to the "Graphics" folder wherein are the required driver files. Windows will do the work from there. Reboot.
- The tricky part then is to turn the monitor on and set the source for the monitor to the proper HDMI port you have the notebook plugged into. Some monitor implementations immediately check for signal which means not just signal but Sync [i.e. the error file is monolithic: it reports "no signal" when it gets no sync] and upon "no sync" revert to whatever the last working Source is/was. Its a p-poor way to implement in my view. Other displays do it the right way which is to hard set the mode and simply wait interminably. Hit the hotkey on your notebook to flip the mode to external - "pure" external mode is less complicated than dual-screen or extended.
If the display does not immediately appear, power cycle the monitor. It should then reset and resync, hopefully successfully if the cable/connection is good.

It is sad to see unresolved posts on this issue on OEM/vendor forums and on Intel's on community boards.

needless to say, I love ATI. This whole process is so easy it spoils one, from humble C-series notebooks through the high end of ATI dedicated, as long as the notebook mftr doesn't interfere somehow.

anyone knows how the HD 2500 compares to the 3000 and 4000? I'm mostly looking for improved video transcoding compared to my Pentium G620 and don't really need the "gaming" graphics capabilities. But I haven't been able to find any information as to how the HD 2500 compares.

The fact that 2500 < 3000 is not really a good sign though...

A:Intel HD graphics 2500 vs 3000/4000?

the 3000 and 4000 are pretty superior of course the actual speed they function at will depend on which intel cpu it's paired with.
From what I've seen they actually are superior to even some of the higher dollar dedicated graphics cards in the way of transcoding. (if you are a gamer you would want to consider the dedicated, but if all you want is transcoding you are good)

However, you will only get the benefit if the software you are using supports the new quick sync features.
Intel? Quick Sync Video

In the instances where your software does support the features the 3k and 4k are twice as fast easily...

Hello,
Recently I've bought a new Dell U2515h monitor: Revision A02, manufactured date Jan. 2016.
I connect the monitor to my laptop Acer Travelmate P243m using the HDMI-HDMI cable.
In the laptop I've replaced Intel Celeron B820/830 processor with Intel I5-3210m, which comes with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000.
OS used on the laptop is 64-bit Windows 10.
All drivers are up-to-date.
If this information is enough, could I ask you please to guide me through settings to achieve the maximum resolution and video signal quality?
With Intel's software I've created custom profile with following settings:

Resolution 2560x1440 (ok, the maximum the monitor can handle)
Refresh rate 50Hz (if 55Hz or 60Hz, than error of exceeding max. bandwidth appear. Try 1Hz increment?)
Color depth 32 Bit
Progressive/interlaced scan - using P is better?
Timing: CVT-RB (if GTF or CVT or CEA 861 than error of exceeding max. bandwidth appear)

And these settings work fine and monitor's resolution is 2560x1440 now.
So, there are my questions, please:

How a choice of timing standard influences on video quality on the monitor?
Does CVT-RB (Reduced Black) make black colors look worse? Black screen backlit bleed?Should I better lower the refresh rate to be able to set GTF or another timing? Which timing?Or better remain CVT-RB and try increment refresh rate by 1Hz to its maximum possible value?
After finding the maximum possible quality solution for RGB gamut, will choosing a wider gamut ... Read more

1x Viewsonic 2268wm (Connected to the Geforce 460 - DVI-D)
1x Philips 6605 LED TV (Connected to the integrated graphics on the motherboard- HDMI)
I have both onboard sound (Realtek AL892) and the Audigy 2 zs installed and enabled, they both work fine and will output audio according to which ever playback device is set as "default".

Problem is, there is no audio via hdmi to my Philips 6605 LED TV
- No device detected in "Sound - Playback Devices" so I am unable to select it as default audio playback device.

However if I were to connect the Philips 6605 LED TV to the Geforce 460, I am able to see
"Philips FTV-1" in "Sound - Playback Devices" and enable it. And the TV will output both video and sound.

Any advise on how to get the onboard video detect the TV? So I can bitstream audio as well as video over HDMI?

I would prefer this setup(onboard video to TV and geforce to 2xmonitors) rather than having the TV+viewsonic-monitor on the Geforce.

Any idea how to resolve this issue, as it's quite annoying to me.

Anyways, basically, after I boot Windows 8, the screen goes black like it shut off (actually, it does shut off because it's the DEEP black when the screen is off, not the slight black when the screen is on, but just not functioning).

What is the problem here? Thanks!

Intel Core i3-2330M + Intel HD Graphics 3000 = Black Screen
Hi,

first of all, my words of deep and sincere appreciation and thanks for this website. I use it, though only sporadically, for many, many years and always got very professional and useful help here!

Today I am inquiring about a problem that seems to be quite common and wide-spread, based on my own Internet searches: the bad combination of the Intel Core i3-2330M processor and the Intel HD Graphics 3000. During normal operations, my system works with that. But when using render software (POV-Ray) or attempting to play games, then I am getting that famous Black Screen. The laptop still continues to work, but I cannot see anything anymore. Only a restart helps, unfortunately. My online search did not reveal any solution, and having downloaded the "Intel Driver Update Utility", nothing new can be downloaded it seems.

I am speaking out here today about my problem with the hope, that someone here know a functioning solution. I need my system in order to create renders, that is my work. I just recently upgraded my system with that better processor, and it kills me now.

Intel integrated graphics uses ram for video ram, and that 32 mb is just minimum reserved ram for video or something like that, most important thing is that ram allocation for video ram is fully automated, it will use as much as it needs.

That would be memory, not bandwidth. And unless there is an option in the bios to allocate more memory to the graphics, then the answer is no. Also don't forget that the GPU is integrated into the CPU.

You can't add more to a video card either. You want more memory on a video card, you have to buy one that has more.

Hello,

My laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) on a partition and I am having trouble finding drivers for my graphics card, which is an Intel HD Graphics 4000 model. I have tried my manufacturer's website, Intel's drivers, and all of them don't work. They end up with an error like 'This operating system is not supported.' Also, when I contact support, all they say is to upgrade to Windows 7. When I did get a driver to install, it messed up my screen, so I had to revert to the VGA Graphics Adapter again. If someone could help me find some drivers that were made for Vista or were for Windows 7 but were released quite a long time ago, that would be awesome.

Hello,
I have been looking for verification that if I buy the Dell 24 Gaming Monitor – S2417DG and attach it to my Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI that I will get full 2560x1440 resolution refresh rate 165 Hz with 1ms response as the Monitor specs are listed.
I can find no information that the HDMI will pass this level of output.
I have talked to Dell tech support and they do say that the HDMI port is connected directly to the  NVIDIA  GeForce GTX 1050T i with 4GB GDDR5 but I also have seen information that HDMI will not support this.
So I am looking for verification on this configuration being compatible/able to output the full capabilities of the video card to the monitor via the on board HDMI output?

A:Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI Specs/Does HDMI out support full bandwidth for G-SYNC Dell Gaming Monitor – S2417DG

First of all, G-Sync as far as I know requires DisplayPort and will not run on HDMI.  Even if it does, I don't think even HDMI 2.0 has enough bandwidth for 1440p @ 165 Hz.  And even if it does though, all of the Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which is only enough for 1440p @ 60 Hz.  But even if all of that isn't a problem, does the Inspiron 7567 have ONLY a GeForce GPU, or does it have an Intel GPU plus a GeForce GPU?  If it's the latter, G-Sync will definitely not work because in almost all systems that have both GPUs, only the Intel GPU is directly wired to the display outputs.  If your system has ONLY the GeForce GPU, then G-Sync should work in theory, but again you may have the bandwidth problems I mentioned above.

The above are the outdated driver, there were also no errors during installation. What I tried besides installing by the exe is going into Device Manager and doing a "Have Disk..." installation by selecting the Graphics folder and then selecting igdlh64.inf to get it installed manually with the same result of the screen going black and then again showing the old driver details. I do wanted to note that after installing the new driver Windows 10 is automatically installing a "driver" but it does not say which.

Hello, I've recently purchased a ThinkPad T430, and while trying to play a few of my games, I've noticed that under display drivers instead of listing "Intel HD Graphics 4000" it just lists "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Now, I know all about the simpler fixes with the Standard VGA problem. I've tried all of the "solutions" I could find. I've downloaded the Intel HD driver from the lenovo website under my specific laptop model(T430). I installed it, and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted my laptop, and went back to see that nothing had changed. It still listed only the Standard VGA adapter. I manually installed the Intel HD 4000 driver from the list in the Device Manager update window, and it showed that everything installed correctly. I restart the laptop, and boom. Nothing. Still lists the Standard VGA Adapter. I'm completely clueless as to what the problem may be. I've even restored my system, and uninstalled the VGA Adapter driver in hopes that it would install the correct driver after a nice restart. I've updated windows and everything. Nothing seems to work. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.  **A few notes: I'm running Windows 7 Professional - 64bit with a 256GB SanDisk SSD and 6GB of Ram. i5-3320M

HI,I bought a new CAD program (Home Designer Suite 2017) Important for my new house build/review- It requires the latest Intel Graphics driver (2015)However, my Paviolan Laptop seems to be limited to the Intel 2012 graphics driver.  (lastest on HP Support site) I did find the newer 2015 Intel driver, but it warned the OEM (HP) graphics "may lose some 'features'".  So:- Is there any chance for a supported UPDATE to the 2015 or newer?!.- Can I use that newer driver? what features would be lost.  or, What would be the effects if I applied  the new update offerd by Intel?  etc. PC Details:HP Pavilion dm4-3170seGriphics - Intel HD 4000, vid-BIOS:  2130.0Ram: 6 Grunning Windows 7 SerPac 1

I recently updated to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Home Premium. My laptop has Intel HD 4000 with 64mb of Dedicated Video Ram and 2gb shared. My laptop has 6gb of ram. I noticed after I updated while I was checking the specs of a new game that my Dedicated Video Ram had been reduced to 32mb, and shared had not increased. I tried the latest drivers posted here and received the error " The driver being installed is not validated for this computer "

I'm sorry if I've overlooked anything, and thanks in advance!

I have read through the sticky win 8 amd switchable graphics FAQ and I cant seem to get mine working at all!

I have a HP envy with a Intel HD 4000 onboard and a Radeon HD 7670M, Windows 8 64bit

I purchased my laptop in December and only just found out it has never ran on the Radeon 7670M.

I have tried updating drivers for Radeon 7670m in device manager. Still dxdiag display shows intel 4000. In catalyst control and Configure switchable graphics all I can do is assign high performance or low performance to .exe files. If I assign high to dxdiag.exe it still does not work. I have tried disabling the on board card and dxdiag then shows microsoft basic display driver and then I get a error message after a while saying AMD drivers are not install or running correctly please install. I have tried uninstalling 76070 from device manager, and uninstalling with the AMD driver installation files. Rebooted, tried installed drivers from AMD and HP and still does not work. It seems to have this switchable function that does not work. Someone on HP forum said to try the older drivers on the HP site. I have done that and still exactly the same issue.

I have tried installing the Intel drivers as well but still does not work. Another suggestion was to go into BIOS and turn switchable graphics to 'fixed' but I don't have that option. I updated the BIOS from HP site but still have no option to do that in mine. I have tried installing many versions of AMD catalyst as someone who had it said ... Read more

uninstalling the drivers wont help because windows will keep finding a new device and load drivers again.

You should disable the built in card either through the bios or in the device manager.., The device manager should be sufficient.

Then install the drivers for the card you want to use...

Sorry about the previous thread. I had gotten the poll wrong and i couldn't edit it.

This time I triple checked the poll before I submit it.

Limits: max score possible in W7 is 7.9, WEI of Intel HD 3000 is about 6.3 so that's the minimum.

This is for the graphics score and not the gaming graphics score, as I believe the former will be slightly less.

thanks.

A:[fixed] what do you think graphics WEI scor for Intel HD 4000 will be?
