I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi biswas

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Were you able to resolve this?

If not, try Exporting the Address Book as .csv file. Open the .csv file and make your edits then resave the file.
Try the Import to see if you get different results.

Let us know if that works for you or if you already solved this issue.

Our sales department currently has to manage two contact lists, one in Excel and one in Outlook. When dealing with thousands of customers, you can see how this can get very time consuming so I'm trying to figure out a way to automate this process somewhat.

The difficulty of this arises because they have unique requirements for column headers so importing is time consuming, and matching data is very time consuming.

My question is, is there a way to export from Outlook to Excel and automatically create the columns (and unique column names), and when needed, import into Outlook automatically putting the data in the right fields.

We use Outlook 2003 in a Exchange server 2003 environment.

If anyone has any other idea's let me know.

Dear Sirs or Madam:
I am attempting to work with my Hover Webmail address book.
1. Attempting to move my OE6 mail and address book installed on my XP PC DESKTOP into Hover Web mail.
2. DESKTOP 'not' currently online...let my internet security protection expire in order to reformat hard drive and then use a different internet security protection.
3. My VISTA LAPTOP 'does not' have Microsoft Windows Mail and Address Book set up on it.
4. Would like to export the correct Microsoft OE6 address book address file from my DESKTOP to a removable flash drive and then move that file/flash drive to my LAPTOP.
5. When I go thru the OE6 Export address book procedure the address book is saved in an Excel file on my Desktop desktop screen,
6. I then move that file to my flash drive and then save it to my desktop of my LAPTOP.
7. When I go to Hover Web Mail and attempt the import of this address book (from my LAPTOP) and I get an error message that this cannot be accomplished.
8. I did call your tech support and was told that the OE6 address book and the saved exported OE6 address book Excel file had to be on the SAME machine in which I was using internet to upload the address book to Hover Web Mail.
9. I thought there might be a work around so as I can just move the address book file from one computer to another and then upload the address book from the latter computer to Hover Web Mail.
10. I do hope this might be possible.

Why can't I import a *.wab file from another computer?
Starting with version 5.01, the Windows Address Book (WAB) changed significantly to provide support for Unicode, an international standard character set, despite the fact that this broke backwards compatibility with earlier versions of the WAB. If you open a *.wab file under OE5.01 or later, the file is automatically converted to support Unicode and so can no longer be read by OE5.0, the version that shipped with the original Windows98. If you uninstall OE5.01 or OE5.5 and then reinstall Win98, your WAB will be inaccessible. Upgrading to at least version 5.01 will allow you to access the WAB again. If that is not possible or desirable, you will have to copy your *.wab file to a machine running 5.01 or higher and export your contacts to a text file of type *.csv (comma separated values). You can then import that file into the OE5.0 WAB.

Hi, I just got a new laptop and I'm trying to export/import my address book from Outlook Express. When I import the addresses it only imports individual names and not "groups." It there a way to import groups as well? When I exported the address book from the old laptop I used the "text file (comma separated values)" option. Is this the right one to use?

A:"Outlook Express" Export/Import Address Book

Hi 2praisehim

No, it will not Export the Groups, you will need to recreate them.
The .csv file is the best backup, this format makes it available to Import to other programs.

As an alternative, you can make a copy of the .wab file and copy it over to the new computer.
To find the location of the original Address Book,
Open the Address Book in Outlook Express:
Tools > About Address Book
The directory will appear along with the name of the .wab file, which usually is the User Account name.wab

Navigate to that directory and copy the .wab file.
Copy the .wab file to the Desktop on the laptop,
find the location of the Address Book for Outlook Express,
Check this directory on the Laptop,
C:\Documents and Settings\User Account\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\User Account.wab
rename the .wab file to User Account.wab.old
Copy the backup .wab file to that directory and rename it to the same name as the current .wab file: User Account.wab

In Outlook Express, click the Address Book icon to open, the replaced Address Book should appear.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

Does anyone know if you can export the registry entry for a specific program and then import it to another registry? I'm trying to move licensing for a program that went unsupported by it's maker to another image of XP. Probably not gonna work since you can only import from File in the tool bar and it probably would not know where to stick the item. Any thoughts on how to do this beyond manually entering the data entrys with mile long REG_BINARY strings. I'm not trying to be sneeky. I have just created a new Profile in Outlook as the previous one developed a corrupt folder.

How do I import/export my files without losing the attachments. I initially did it as export to windows.csv but the import couldn't read it. I then did it as dos.csv and the same thing. I then did it as excel.xls and it imported, but had lost the attachments and in some cases the body of the email.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

I keep my address book in contacts on MS Outlook.I have two PCs and when I change data on one contact on one PC, I export to a thumb drive and then import the information into the 2nd PC.

This is what I do when I export contacts:
File-Import and Export-Export to a file-Comma Separated Values (Windows)-Contacts-
Save exported File- then I indicate the drive and what to export.
The file exported is MS Outlook Contacts.

Here is the problem. When I import to the 2nd PC all the contacts are duplicated and I have to delete the older contacts.
I must be doing something wrong. But what? Is it the "Comma Separated Values (Windows)
selection incorrect?

A:Solved: MS Outlook export & import problem

This is for Office 2003, but I'd assume all other versions have the same or similar setting:

On the Import a File dialog where you select the file to import, select:
Replace duplicates with items imported
instead of
Allow duplicates to be created

For reasons I don't entirely understand, import/export to and from email programs is pretty much in the stone age. It just has not improved much over the years.

It rarely works without errors or omissions. In my experience, address books are particularly difficult. You might have to re-enter your addresses by hand if you have them in some form where you can at least read them.

I've just done a full re-installation of Windows ME on my PC, to overcome deteriorating performance. I backed up data and restored it OK. However, I backed up the Outlook Express 6.0 messages by doing an Outlook Express export into several files, and copying those files back onto the new PC (I suspect now that I should have simply copied the files themselves in Explorer, rather than exporting them).

I have tried to import the messages from these exported files into my now empty Outlook folders. I chose to import from an OE6 Identity, and selected the folder where the files are; the files are all named after the Outlook folders, and have type DBX. The import function shows me the files listed as folders. I select one of them, and the import claims to be successful, but no messages are imported.

I have also tried simply replacing the new empty files with the backed up DBX files, but although Outlook allows me to view these folders, it shows them as empty.

Does anyone know how I can rescue the messages from the exported files?

Thank you

Having set up the laptop again I went to import my emails back and there are only a handful there. What happened to the other hundreds? I presume they are lost forever unless someone can suggest a lifeline. I suppose I should have checked the exported files before I wiped the laptop.

I've seen a few threads discussing similar problems. Why does the export function not work properly?

There should be only 2 actual files on your hard drive (1-address book and 1-backup address book). I think what you would have to do if you want a copy in My Documents or in any other folder is what you said in your title: Export it. To keep it updated, do it whenever you add a name.

OE->File->Export. Follow the wizard from there.

Maybe what you are wondering about is simply a shortcut sitting in My Documents? If you click Start->Programs->Accessories. You should have a shortcut to your address book there. Just create a duplicate shortcut in My Documents if that is what you want.

A friend has just set up a new system in Win2000 using OE6.

He has several message folders in OE6 on his old machine running Win98.

How does he transfer the desired message folders to the new machine? I have tried to do this without success. Microsoft seems to have made this operation very difficult. I have done this procedure often with Netscape message folders and it is relatively simple.

I can find the Outlook Express dbx files associated with the desired folders on the Win98 machine but how do I get their contents to the new computer???

A:Export/Import of OE folders

emails in folders
you need to recreate the folders on the new PC
then transfer the .dbx files
caution: it will replace any existing .dbx files of the same name

so obviously if you have email in the inbox and you replace it with the old inbox.dbx - the new ones are toast

at this point (already using OE on the new PC) i'd transfer the old ones to a new folder - 'transfer', which will create transfer.dbx on the old PC
copy it to floppy

then create a 'transfer' folder in the new PC
close OE
then transfer the old transfer.dbx to the new machine

see tomsterdam's OE site for more - and the use of OE BackUp to do the same thing, including importing the address book

it's easier to do it all at once with OE BackUp before you start using OE on a new PC, but the manual way works fine too

note: remember the default security setting in OE6 which disables viewing/receiving attachments
- go to the tools, options, security tab and uncheck the box if that's what you want

I've got an old PC running WinXP and I have always used OE 6 on it but I DO have Outlook 2007 loaded onto the same machine.

I want to migrate all my email and address book to my new machine running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

I know I can either IMPORT the emails with Outlook 2007 from OE... OR... I can EXPORT the emails using using OE 6.... correct ?

I read somewhere that if I used the Import function I woul dlose the date/time stamp on my old emails. Is that true ?

So... what is better ? To Import the OE emails thru Outlook and then back the pst up and move it to my new machine.... or us e the Export function on EO to try to export the email to Outlook ?

How about my address book ?

And once I get the email and addresses into Outlook 2007 on my old machine, should I use a Memory stick to move them to the new machine or try to use the Windows Easy Transfer and an easy transfer cable (which I already have) ?

Thanks for any advice.
