"The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed."

Q: "The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed."

"Could not measure system memory performance."

So I did something that made something happen again so I need help, again.
I had changed my CPU, motherboard, and RAM; the CPU needed a different socket (2011-3), and so with that new motherboard required different RAM (DDR4)
I'm pretty sure the sudden change in hardware is the cause of this, and a few other things that I'd like to think I had solved by myself.
I have a feeling this is an easy fix, what did I do wrong and what can I do to fix whatever this is?
Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: "The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I am using a work provided laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise (64 bit) installed. I booted up my laptop and in was in classic view and my wireless was not working along with some other features too. I right-clicked and went to "Personalize" and then it said "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other Aero effects". I click on it and go through the troubleshooter and it says under "Problems found" "The Windows Experience Index has not been computed". Then when I got "My Computer" and go into "Properties" I click "System rating is not available" and then "Rate this computer". When I do that I get this below.

" The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed. Cannot complete assessment. The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other component. "

I tried booting into 'Safe Mode' but it wouldn't recognize my password, note this a work laptop and it has a password when I boot normally it lets me through and recognizes my password but in 'Safe Mode' it doesn't.

Could I please have some help. Thank you.

Andi, The reason you're seeing this message is because Windows 7 allows for video decoding to be performed by the GPU, but yours is relatively old and does not support the new video acceleration introduced with Windows Vista and Windows 7.-Alex

So I just overclocked my processor a few points, and upon booting up my computer, the Aero theme was 'busted.' I tried running the troubleshoot, which claimed I had no issues.

I opened up the Windows Color option, and was greeted with only a Windows 94 looking theme option. (images below) Everywhere I look has no information on this issue.

I fail to see how overclocking my processor only a little bit would cause this issue. All of my drivers are up to date, my computer can easily handle the small amount of overclocking I did, and windows is up to date.
I tried going to Performance and Information and Tools and using 'Re-run the assessment,' and I get 'The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed.'

I run with a NIVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti and a 990FXA-UD3 motherboard with an AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core Processor now overcloacked to 4.2 GHz with dual monitors.

I have 12 GB of DDR3 RAM and my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Hey Everyone,

I've just built a new PC for some intense graphics and video work, and I can't seem to get my old drive to work in any way.

This is a W7 Home Premium 64 Bit installation.

Before I took the boot drive out of the old case, I did the procedure for "System Out of Box Experience" as detailed in this thread:

Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer

But when I put the old drive into the new system, it does not boot into Windows, it goes to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen, and when I try to repair it, it just tells me it can't be repaired. When I look at the logs it tells me 'startup repair cannot determine the cause of the problem'.

trying to boot into safe mode just results in the machine restarting itself.

I cannot use the install DVD to reinstall the OS because the HD won't boot.

I took the 'old' drive out and put in a blank HD and successfully installed onto the new drive, and am able to boot into this clean install of W7, but the Windows migration tool moves everything off an old drive but the applications (which, Windows Team, if you're reading this - that's an incredibly LAME omission) so I can't really use that feature without adding hours of hassle downloading and popping in DVD's and digging up serial #'s out of storage.

I called MS tech support, but it was clear that I, (in my limited knowledge) knew more than the CSR I was speaking to, who was reading from a "it your computer plugged in' script.... so I didn'... Read more

A:Migrating to a new MOBO, W7 "system out of box experience" fails

Cut your losses.

Decide which drive you want to put Windows 7 on and clean install to that drive. If your existing clean install to the "old" drive is OK, reinstall your apps to it.

Imaging or cloning is the only way to move installed applications from old drive to new drive and neither is always successful. You may have already failed at cloning or imaging, depending on what you mean by "Windows migration tool". The Windows "Easy Transfer" tool leaves a lot to be desired, if that is the tool you tried.

I tried booting again but got the same error... i ran ubuntu live cd and tried to save my data files but it wont access my hard drive either... neither can i run recovery since it was also on a partition on the hard drive.

I have an HP Compaq CQ 70..

Kindly help me recovering the data...

A:Cannot Boot Windows 7 "The header checksum does not match the computed checksum"

If you can't access w/Ubuntu, then it's likely that there's a problem with your hard drive.
Each use of the hard drive increases the chance that you won't recover anything. I'd strongly suggest looking into professional data recovery services - but be aware that they are very, very expensive!

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hi all,

Sorry to repeat a question I see a lot of instances of, but none of those seem to be addressing my problem correctly.

I have not done anything new to my computer in recent days, so this problem has caught me off guard (I see most instances of this problem come after upgrading to Windows 7, I have had Win 7 installed for a while now).

Here is a summary of my problem:
1) My computer recently got stuck on the "Starting Windows Screen." So I manually held the power button to reboot.
2) On reboot, it said there was a need to run a startup repair, which I did. Everything checked fine, except for the last one which said "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted," which it claimed to have successfully fixed.
3) After rebooting from repair, the system gets stuck on "Starting Windows Screen" for a good 10-15 minutes, after which it runs a registry check. After it completes that I get hopeful -- but the screen then gets stuck on an all black screen with just the mouse cursor and nothing more.
4) Additional note: Attempting to start the computer on "safe mode" leads safe mode startup to become stalled on "DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS"
5) The lastest attempt to repair yielded this message: "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

A:Stuck on "Starting Windows", Repair Shows "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted"

Hi Stan, Hopefully I can help you out....or at least lead you in the right direction. From my experience, the symptoms you are suggesting sound like perhaps a dying Hard drive.

1. Do you have the windows 7 boot disks that came with your computer or when you bought the Operating System? If so, you could try and insert one of those and boot from it, and attempt to repair the installation. (this won't affect your data, only the windows system files).

2. If that doesn't fix it, you could try a fresh reinstall of windows 7, and see if that works.

3. If neither of those work, its likely that because of the fact that when windows is repairing itself, it is generally putting copies of its system files in the same physical location on your disk. Because your disk is obviously not completely dead, ie....its still loading to the windows 7 startup screen, its just copying files to the bad sectors on your hard drive and gets stuck when loading. This is especially my guess because you said Safe mode is having same problems, even after attempting to repair. In the past, I've tried and salvage a disk by reformatting it and only leaving on partitions which do not contain the bad clusters. This takes some time, and some guess work.....and really this is only a "bandaid" fix because once the disk has bad clusters, its only a matter of time before these things give out. You wouldn't want to trust your important data on it anyways....

I hope this leads you in ... Read more

I recently acquired this menace, but I am sure that it has made its rounds. I followed the advice on a previous forum on this site that seemed to contain the same problem entitled " [Solved] New HJT log - strange goings on". Hello,
I problem I have been geting in the past 2 days is that whenever I use the search index, like for example look in my librarys, program files, or look for anything on my computer, a box pops up saying "Windows explorer has stopped working", and whatever im searching for will automaticaly close. This is very frustrating because like everyone who owns a PC I search for files and such, and I have tried many things to try and fix this, including:

-System restore
-Uninstalling windows updates
-Restarting computer
-Disabeling Index service
-Disabeling Windows search service

I have read of a solution to this problem that involves deleting files related to the index, but again I cannot do this because every time I look in search index it automaticaly closes.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated

A:Search Index "Windows explorer has stopped working" error

Try to do system file check first:
Start-->cmd (run as administrator)-->sfc /scannow (space between sfc and /)

If it does not work
Try a scan disk.
Disk Check

If it doesn't work, you might want to do a Repair Install , it will preserve your data, user account, and system driver

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

It previously had Windows XP Professional (32 bit) and worked fine.

Dell's Windows 7 Compatibility List.   However, the Windows 7 Upgrade

where it said to check for updated drivers from the manufacturer.   The
laptop originally came with a 100GB hard drive.   For my use, that is
getting very small, so I decided to get the same exact 7200 RPM drive
in the 500 GB size.   This will allow me to do a clean install of the
32 bit Windows 7 OS on the new hard drive and not have to wipe the old
drive to do it.   I can just hold onto the old HD and stick it back in

I found out how to see the event logs for Windows Defender scans from a thread on eightforums ("Windows Defender - where are the Scan Results?"). I just ran a full scan, but Windows Defender apparently ran a quick scan afterwards, so there is no confirmation on the WD user interface that the full scan completed. So following the advice in that other thread, I looked at the WD log in the Event Viewer. I see in the Operational listing two events with Event ID 1000, which seems to correspond to a scan starting, and two with Event ID 1001, which corresponds to a scan finishing (see below). The two 1000 events and the two 1001 events differ from each other in the "Scan Type Index" visible in the Details view of each event, which is "1" for one pair of 1000 and 1001 and "2" for the other. The times are consistent with the 1000/1001 pair for Scan Type Index 2 being the full scan and the pair with Scan Type Index 1 being the subsequent quick scan. Am I correct that Scan Type Index 1 is a quick scan and Scan Type Index 2 is a full scan? Is there some place where the various event type codes, etc are described?

I have windows XP..
I started getting pop-ups saying 'cannot find file C:/WINDOWS/privacy_danger.index.htm make sure the path is correct'
and then I noticed my wallpaper disappeared and it was just a plain white backround...i figured it was just adware or maybe a virus or something, but the scan results were good. Once i searched online,i found out its a trojan..so I don't exactly know how to get rid of these and i was hoping you could help.

I have a 7200rpm hard drive that shows up as 3 separate partitions on my MacBook Pro desktop. They are "System Reserved", "Untitled 1" and "Untitled". When looking at them in the Disk Utility program, they show up as "System
Reserved",  "disk2s1" and "disk2s3". I can't seem to find a way to wipe the drive and just have 1 partition. I don't need to save anything on it so it can all be deleted and consolidated. Not sure if this helps but the previous
owner told me that he had accidentally erased another partition that prevented the hard drive from being reconsolidated. It also may have been a Windows boot drive. Any help in restoring this hard drive would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have 2 Dell 780's that I would like to reset to factory using the Dell Recovery partition.  These are Windows 7 64bit Pro machines.  The units have 3 partitions, diagnostics, recovery and OS.  I have followed instructions to start the recovery process and can successfully get the units to boot to the standard windows restore options page, but the expected last item "Dell Factory..." is not present.www.dell.com/.../how-to-restore-your-windows-7-computer-to-factory-settingsI do not see Dell Backup and Recovery installed.www.dell.com/.../DriversDetailsThere is nothing on the C:\ partition I wish to retain and want to do a clean (re)install, ideally on a formatted drive.  I would like to keep the recovery partition functionality intact so this can be done again.  I rather not do an upgrade where I get left with a windows.old folder and other unused folders in the root directory.Related:1 - I think I read somewhere that recovery can only be done once.  Is this correct?2 - Does recovery also include the Cyberlink software?3 - From where is the System Recovery tools run? Also have seen this:  en.community.dell.com/.../20141229

Hi all,

So I'm kind of stuck.. I currently have the problem where I am in an endless cycle of "loading files" -> "Windows Boot Manager" (see: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)).
I have tried to load all of the options -- and none successfully load.
I also end up at a OneKey Recovery as well.. unfortunately, the laptop does not have initial backup or user backup images.
I have a Windows 8 CD for repairing purposes.. however, I cannot load the BIOS/UEFI to change the boot order to load the optical drives first. I have also tried to remove the CMOS battery to fix it.. did not work. .
Also - Windows Boot Manager:
Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] -- does not load properly (leads to OneKey Recovery) Safe Mode (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Networking (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Command Prompt (doesn't load - tries to boot and load all files onto partition that is too small.. can't change partition?)
Enable Boot Logging Enable Low-Resolution Video Debugging MOde Disable automatic restart on system failure Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Display Early Launch Anti-Malware Driver
Start Windows Normally
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Usually when the machine has a "blank" desktop, the boot/startup process has been interupted or is frozen to before Explorer is launched.

You can launch Explorer manually be navigating C:\Windows and double-clicking "Explorer".

If successful, do the following:

Start>Run>(type) "msconfig" and turn off all non-MS services and all startups.

Then, Start>Run>(type) "cmd", and at the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and schedule a chkdsk to run on next reboot.

Reboot system and report results.

I have tried reinstalling the graphics driver (after a clean uninstall) to both an older version and the most updated version, but that did not help either.

I'm fretting that this might be a hardware issue but I have no way to know for certain because I don't know how to even access it (I have a Clevo W150HR).

Hello M4TE and welcome to Seven Forums. Sorry for the delay in responding but I just came across your question.

Most newer manufactured computers have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive. The manufacturer provides specific instructions on how to access that partition in case you want to restore your machine to the exact condition it was in when it left the factory. That means you'd have to go through the time consuming process of cleaning out factory bloatware (like free trials of programs you'll never need), installing programs you do need, updating everything, creating your personal settings, etc. Here is a general idea of how to access the hidden recovery partition.

HP Recovery From Partition

Let's say it took you a day or two to set up your machine to your liking using the hidden recovery partition. A System Image is like a snapshot of your entire hard drive. It will include everything from the operating system to all your programs, files, photos, music, all updates ... everything. Most folks keep it on a separate external hard drive. Let's say a week later you get a virus or your machine crashes for some reason. You can use that System Image to return your machine to the exact condition it was in when you made the image. Usually takes about 30 minutes or so and you're back in business. It's a lot faster and more convenient to only worry about a week of updates compared to probably months with the hidden recovery partition. The newer a System Image is the... Read more

I ran a registry cleaner which didn't work and ran memtest this morning and it showed that my memory was fine. On the other hand, last night I did nothing but surf YouTube for 3 hours and didn't get a BSOD at all. However, since then I haven't been able to do anything for more than 10 minutes (without being in safe mode) without it crashing, and this morning it completely froze until I turned it off. Download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the script.

It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.

Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

Hello sattyaji, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It may still be showing if the system image was created as part of a Windows backup. Using the tutorial below to reset Windows Backup should clear it for you, but you will need to set up your backup again afterwards.

As title, was wondering if anyone had had experience with a utillity software called "Actual Multiple Monitors"
Or any similar, preferably free, software.

I am wanting to have an active toolbar, and system tray, on both my monitors, rather than just one, but as this option isn't available I need a third party software, like this, to do the job and was wondering if anyone knew anything aobut it, is it safe and whether it's even worth it?

Well hey, I'm newbie technician, I just finished CompTIA A+, and want to work towards Network+ and Security+ eventually. Anyway, I was wondering if there are any other "techs in training" like myself out there, who would like to network and share tips/solutions/help each other out on tough fixes, etc. Since we both would be learning at the same time, it would be great to share insights/neat discoveries/etc. I think it would be a great learning opportunity for both parties. Send me a private message on this forum and I can give you my google talk info or whatever. Hey, even if it's just to chat about the latest hardware, that's fine with me.

Hi guys, I ask you a lot of help because I'm in trouble up to my neck. I try to be as detailed as possible.
I have a Packard Bell with initially installed Windows Vista Home Premium (I don't know if 32-bit or 64-bit). Over time I updated it to later versions, and in fact before the problem I normally had Windows 10.

Brief introduction: as you know, telematic lessons have started in the world at home. So I installed Microsoft Teams and so far everything is ok. I noticed, however, immediately that the fan of my old PC with more than 10 years of intense work was starting to fuel quickly. While I was thinking about how to solve, the inevitable happened: during a lesson the PC freeze in the screens, and after waiting 5-10 minutes I turned it off by the button. By re-accessing it, this screen appeared, as the title says:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have the disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors. "

What I did: I searched on this and other sites but I was not able to juggle well. I understood that you need an installation CD, which I DO NOT ha... Read more

I'm not sure if this is a printing problem or a software problem, but here goes:
I used Microsoft Publisher to design an index card. I have 200 index cards to print now and I can't get the printer (Canon imageclass d320) to print them. I have tried printing them as "envelopes" because there is no "index" card setting, and that will not work. I also tried running them both directions (horizontal and vertical). The manuel says it will print index cards, but I'm wondering now if they are the kind that are on one sheet (like you print business cards).
