Preferred Solution: alpha online scan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

I would say that is a rogue software!

Click here to download HJTInstall.exe

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi

Can anyone offer any help with the Alpha Online Scan problem. I can see from these forums that this seems to be a common problem at the moment.

From your site I found out about HiJackThis and have run a scan. The report is below. I would appreciate it if someone could check this report and offer me any advice.

Dont know if this helps in any way but I have also run a Norton 360 comprehensive scan and that has reported no problems.

Thanking you in advance for your support.

I was browsing the web recently and came across new and persistent rogue anti virus. It is called Alpha Online Scan I was first attacked by it while googling for Alex Jones Videos. It is listed as an attack site by Firefox and when I try to go to the site on my own it is blocked. Some how it has popped up twice by hijacking a browser. The link is listed below. I have been successful in preventing its installation up to this point, but I fear that my son who is nine may be using my computer and allow this thing to install. I will return to post an HJT log to determine if there is something serving this page from my system. Thanks for any help.

After installing a pc game (original discs) norton anti-virus blocks the running of the game and reports ' backdoor.ranky ' a trojan virus,it does not offer removal or quarantine of the trojan.
Norton does not detect it with scans and spysweeper does not detect it.

I used an online trojan detector program and an on line anti-virus scanner with both stating pc is clean,this was done in safe mode and sysyem restore disabled.

So is this a false report by norton when attempting to run this game?

I followed a link last night, from the one here about the latest worm, to the Panda online virus scan. I didn't think I have the worm, had used other scans, but who knows what a new (free) scan might find

First I downloaded the program, took about 45 mins (for some reason, it wasn't that big a download) then decided on the full scan, while I was at it. After an hour of this, it had barely moved on the progress bar, and it was 1 AM so I stopped it and went to bed.

I considered taking it offline and letting it scan (as it says you can, but have to go online for results) but don't like leaving it on all night "doing something" while I sleep.

At that point it said it had found 4 infected files, it had disinfected (but no details, since I didn't finish it). I THINK it might be emails I had deleted, since it was scanning all files. Though I usually delete the deleted ones- to make sure.

This morning I started it again, this time he didn't have to download totally, quickly connected to whatever it had dl'd last night. Three hours later..... it had barely gotten to what might be the 1/4 mark on the progress bar. I had mainly been online (letting it scan) but took it off and back on again (which it said could be done)

I finally stopped it.

This afternoon, I tried it again, this time only checking EMAIL to scan.

An hour later.... it was only about 1/10th of the way on the bar, and had been on one file for about 30 mins. Said ithad scann... Read more

Hello Trtlgrl2_78. IMO Rav is a good report tool. I think it would be better to run this one. Click Here it'll clean them out. Let us know anything it finds that it can't clean. Be sure to write them down.

You can copy the Rav things into notepad and post them here if you want.

Was thinking: Why not run a decent, effective and light AV ie. NOD32 in real-time, and every couple of weeks have a "scan day" where you run loads of online scanners one by one? Would this be okay?

A:Online scan idea

Or, you could simply get a full scan of your system over the Internet from the legitimate security websites that offer that option.

When I was running TrendMicro's PC-cillen as my main AV w/firewall, I used to run AVG and an Anti-Trojan scanner (A2, i.e. A-squared free) in Safe mode on the weekends - depends on how much free time you have to do the scans.

Actually it works with Fx too.

System Requirements for the online scan from their site:

Quote:

Trend Micro?s HouseCall requires the following minimum system components:

Hardware:
* 133MHz Intel? Pentium? processor or equivalent
* 64MB of RAM
* At least 30MB of available disk space

Operating System:
* Microsoft Windows 98SE/NT4.0,SP6a/2000,SP2/XP,SP1/2003 and Windows MCE 2005
* Linux Distributions that supports libc6
* Solaris 2.6 and above

Software:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 or later
* Mozilla Firefox 1.0.5, 1.0.6, 1.0.7, 1.5
* Mozilla 1.7.12

Display:
* Monitor that supports 800 x 600 resolution at 256 colors or higher

Let alone that, I've just ran it through Fx 2.0.0.1 myself.

A:virus scan while online

Andy
I do not believe running a full system scan will be interrupted or degraded by surfing or working in other applications. It will however be significatly slowed down do to processor usage. If you find it necessary to do other functions during the scan than expect slow performance. I always try to allow the scan to run uninhibited to completion when I can.

here's the links to two good free full-featured AV programs you can install the only drawback is limited technical support for one with the free version. I use AntiVir with WinXP and below versions as well.

AntiVir at http://free-av.com (website is currently being moved) but you can download from it fine. click the Download button then the red/black AntiVir icon.

or AVG at http://www.grisoft.com

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm and click the Scan Now link to run a free on-line virus scan.

Looking over some of the comments in this forum it appears running the free Kaspersky Online Scan may help me identify and hopefully eliminate some spyware/malware etc. problems that have infected my computer. I'm running Windows XP service pak two. Is there any potential problem that running this program will cause any damage to my computer files or crash my computer? Currently the malware etc is primarily annoying with its frequent popups, but all my programs seem to operate OK. Thanks for any help/comments/suggestions.

A:Online Kaspersky Scan

I can't guarantee anything (and no one else can either), but I've run a Kaspersky scan when I've had problem with malware. It will take a while to download and run and you will get a very long report. As long as you're just running a scan I don't see a problem. But . . . it's still up to you.

You might want to wait and see if anyone else has a differing opinion.

For some reason I cannot run any online virus scans nor will any program updates work on my pc. To begin with I know I was infected with the recycler virus and some virus/malware that was causing google page redirects. In addition, downloads of all sorts would not work in ie or firefox. After finally being able to download avira, bitdefender and autorun eater using the opera browser i ran avira which found nearly 80 trojans, virii, etc. and autorun eater which deleted a ton of recycler files. Now avira and bitdefender find nothing wrong and my google redirect problem seems to be gone except for the fact that I cannot update programs and cannot perform online virus scans. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
