Does a IP address contain information information about your geographic region?

Q: Does a IP address contain information information about your geographic region?

A site identifies its user through IP address and cookies. My question is about IP address. Does a IP address contain information information about your geographic region? What do those digits in IP address mean? Some websites could tell where the user is located, how? Would you please help me with it. Thanks a lot.

Preferred Solution: Does a IP address contain information information about your geographic region?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone. This is probably absolute paranoia but I thought I would ask anyway. If someone has your exact IP address, is there any way they can "hack" your computer with the information??. I recently was visiting an Internet forum where an individual was claiming he could send any number of viruses to you just by knowing your IP address. (I know it was some keyboard commando talking big). I do have a couple of questions if anyone wouldn't mind answering.

1. What does your computer send along with your IP address?? I believe it also sends your operating system and what browser your using, but I'm not sure.

2. Can anyone recommend a good program for monitoring what ports are open on your computer that works with vista?

3. Is there a place where you can look up IP addresses on the internet??

Thanks for any help. Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum

Does someone know what these phrases mean?

NetType is "Direct Allocation"

<img src="http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=545020">

A:IP Address Information

a fair bit of techno babble but basically they mean exactly what they seem to mean

- direct allocation: receive a block of IP addresses from ARIN and have to use them according to ARIN policies (ie not hoard them etc)

- non-portable: the IP addresses/address blocks stay with the current 'owner' who 'leases' them to it's customers - change ISPs and you change your IP address, can't take it with you

ARIN (American Registyr of Internet Numbers) at http://www.arin.net/index.html has lots more if interested

MCBride, since no one has replied to your post of 14 Nov 2006, I'm going to give it a shot, even though I'm not a whiz. You can "export" your Outlook Express address book to a flash drive or other medium by opening it and going to FILE-EXPORT-ADDRESS BOOK and then selecting your storage venue. When you have Outlook installed IMPORT the address book from your flash drive or whatever.

In my excel file, I have a vendor name in column A and the address information (street, city/state/zip) in column B. I need to move city/state/zip to column c. The issue is that some vendors have 2 lines of information, some have 3 (apartment number, for example) and some have no address at all. Each record is separated by a blank row though.

How can I get the address information to go across to columns C and D (if necessary)?

A:Excel column to rows - address information

In a perfect world there should only ever be one piece of data in a column. For example; Column A = Vendor Name, Column B = Street Address, Column C = Street Address 2 (Apt. # , Suite # etc), Column D = City, Column E = State, Column F = Zip. There shouldn't be any blank columns in between.

That said, there's a function in Excel in the Data menu or ribbon (depending on if you're using 2003 or 2007) called Text To Columns which lets you to break out data from one cell to many cells. So, if you have address/city/state/zip in one cell - you can tell it to put the address in one cell, the city in the next cell, the state in the next cell and the zip in the next cell.

However - you have to tell Excel how to separate the data in your cell. It can be by a "delimiter" or by counting character spacing. Delimiter means... You can tell it to look for a comma, or a space, or a dash or something that's placed between each piece of data and wherever it sees that delimiter it will put the next piece of information into the following cell. By spacing you're telling it to count a certain number of characters to the right then split the data into the next cell. This probably won't work because address information is all across the board with regard to character counts.

Address information is difficult with delimiters as well because more often than not the only thing you'll have between each piece of data is a space. That works for the city sta... Read more

can region 7 (not selected) DVD player play region (1+2+3+4+5+6) DVD without region changed ?
in other words , does a ALL region DVD appear the same as region free DVDs to DVD players?
i used an old edition of DVD shrink to make some DVD movies before. but later i changed to AnyDVD with DVDclone. AnyDVD told me that the DVDs that were made with DVDshrink has region code locked to 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 instead of being region free. whilst those made with DVD clone, are recognized as region free.
i would like to ask if the DVD region of a DVD player has to be changed to one of the following: 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 when i put a DVD made with DVD shrink into it? given that the DVD player is a new one, not yet played any DVD, which should has a region code of 7 ( not selected). what will happen if i really put one of those DVD made with DVD shrink (with six regions allowed.) into my DVD player? would it just automatically change itself into 1? (because 1 is the smallest but i do not live in US or Canada!) i am so afraid that i do not dare putting the DVD to try it on my own in case it will waste the number of times i can change the region.

Hi, I really should know how to do this but apparently I'm not that savvy when it comes to computers.
I'm trying to do this puzzle which has so many levels, and what I want to know is, how do I keep that window open, as when I go looking for clues on google I lose the puzzle page I'm up to and then when I have an answer I have to keep hitting the back button to get back to the puzzle so I can put the answer in.
I know there is a way to keep this puzzle window open after I go into other sites, but I am at a loss how to do it.
Hoping someone can understand what it is I'm asking.
Could someone also tell me how to save the puzzle in My Favourites.
Appreciate any help.

A:Need information!!

No one can give you an exact answer with only the information you posted. Depends how the "puzzle" game is set up. Maybe a link to the puzzle in question would help?

As to opening additional windows, right click a link and choose Open Link in New Window.

Hi all
I ran into a problem with my WMI. When I first discovered this, I noticed that the WEBM repository was empty, the default namespace read unknown, and I was getting Failed to initialized all required WMI classes. I tried repairing it with Windiag 2.2 with
not much luck, or so I think. What I have now in the WBEM Repository is Mapping 1, Mapping 2, Mapping 3 and object data. The default namespace still reads unknown and I still have some programs acting up.
This computer was once connected to my domain, which it too, went down from the same problem. is there a way to get it back to its original state? No, unfortunately the backup that I had I erased along with my other computers backup. That was intentional
in fear that the virus or bad script would migrate to my other computers when I got the domain back up.

Stinger is a very limited tool, it will only remove the following:

This version of Stinger includes detection for all known variants, as of March 1, 2005:

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question and if not I apologize. I am a desktop technician for George Mason University and I have run into a large variety of virus, my absolute favorite being the vundo variations(jk). I was wondering if there are any resources or classes that the experts have used or taken to be more knowledgeable on removal of malicious code(malware/spyware/viruses). While this site and its collection of spyware/malware/virus removals is wonderful, it doesnt even touch the surface nor cover the many variations of each of them. Thank you so much and I really love the site.

BC does have a HJT training class, but it is currently full and new students are not now being accepted. To cover all the variations of malware current would be a virtual impossibility, especially given the many different computer configurations; hence, our staff of trained volunteers offers individual help in ridding a computer of malware based on information contained in the log produced by the HijackThis! application.
I hope this partly answers your question.

A:Where is all the information

The information is everywhere. In the registry. In files in program Files and Application Data. It is even on the hard drive. Files that have been deleted can be easily read with the right equipment. Windows cannot even see most of the computer's history. The only way to make sure that no information can be found is to erase the whole drive, Windows and all.

As of August 16, 2005 5:12 PM (Pacific Daylight Time; GMT-7:00),
TrendLabs has declared a Medium Risk Virus Alert to control the spread of
WORM_ZOTOB.D and WORM_RBOT.CBQ. TrendLabs has received several infection
reports indicating that this malware is spreading in Brazil and the

WORM_ZOTOB.D is a memory-resident worm that drops a copy of itself in
the %System%\wbev folder as WINDRG32.EXE.

(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually
C:\Windows\System on Windows 95, 98, and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT
and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP.)

It takes advantage of the Microsoft Windows Plug and Play vulnerability
to propagate across networks. For more information regarding this
vulnerability, refer to the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-039 found in

It also has backdoor capabilities, and may execute commands coming from
a remote malicious user. This provides remote users virtual control

As a form of an anti-debugging technique, this worm also gathers Web

My brother recently gave my kids his old computer (to keep them off of mine).
Problem is he didn't have any of the manuals for the computer. The harddrive is in great shape with 90% free space. The problem is the moniter, everything on the screen has a green hue to it. I can't figure out the adjustments for it either. The moniter is a EMC 768M, does anyone know of a sight I might be able to find out some information on this moniter. Or better yet if you already know how to make the adjustments that will work too.

A:Looking for information

Sounds like the red color gun is gone. If someone was messing around with the controls, then just take it to a shop and have them readjust the color guns. If no one was playing around with them, then the red gun is most likely no good, and in that case the monitor would need to be replaced. You couldn't fix this yourself. You need special tools to do it and the high voltage inside the case could kill you, even if it's been sitting unplugged for a while. If it were me, I'd just get a new monitor. At least that way you'd have a warranty. You could also get a good refurb monitor cheap which also come with warranties

I see your post has been here for a full day without response. Perhaps you can clarify a little. When Google closes and the link doesn't open, are you saying a different browser works properly?

I am wondering if anyone knows where I can download a comprehensive guide to ISO, and BIN files, including their uses and how to handle them. I seemed to be having a momentary lapse of intelligence when I began churning out coasters at an amazing rate before cognizance set in and I realized I should be using re-writable discs for any burning projects I have and know very little about. And what little investigation I have done has left me with 6 different ISO programs, each of which has just 1 feature that the others don't, and that is the 1 I need. I understand what an "image" is, what mounting it means etc. but when I get to the "burn" part, it all goes awry. I currently have ISO Magic, Power Iso, ISO record, Daemon tools, Nero 8, all for the purpose of converting and burning the image files to something I can use, and I'm still struggling. If any of you more experienced users could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

A:ISO information

You can have a look at this if you like.

Greetings to all, I a question that someone may be able to help me with:

Is there any way I see how old a web site is, I'm not looking for when it was first made, but bet when it was last updated, so I have guide as to how current the content is.

Spending time reading information that is well out of date can a waste of time and may provide outdated information.

Thanks for reading my question and I thank anyone who responds in advance. Great site, well done.

Hi all,
Just like to get some information. On my computer right now running windows seven home 64 bit. I installed norton 360. My question is when I've run a diagnostic test in Norton it tells me too upgrade to the latest windows service pack. When I go into windows update it tells me that there is no updates. Is this something different that I need to do with windows seven or is this just something on norton.

A:Need some information

There are no service packs yet.

You will need to go to Norton to get a updated version of 360.
It would seem that you are using an older W7 unaware version.

well... my dad had a guy add memory and hard dive space to our Vaio computer. He tried to hook it back up to the flat-screen vaio monitor and a little information box came up that said "Out of scan range: 35.5KHz/86Hz". Now we have to use our really old bulky '96 Gateway 2000 monitor that takes up most of the desk. Is there something I can do to get the vaio CPU to work with the vaio monitor?
