Q: Thinkpad Yoga 14 touch screen and usb not working and whole laptop goes unresponsive if left

This began about six months ago. I picked up my laptop and it was unresponsive and the red logo lights was blinking. I forced shutdown with the power button and restarted it. When it was back on I could get power but no data transfer from any usb ports, the touch screen didn't work, and if i let it sleep it automatically went unresponsive with the same error light. I checked for viruses. None. I updated all possible drivers. Nothing. I even restored my computer to factory settings and reinstalled windows. Nada. I use it heavily for school, so I haven't had time to send it in for warranty. One day, I turned it on and everything worked again. Wonderful. A couple days later I opened it and it was back to its previous state. PLEASE HELP

Hi all,I'm not sure if I posted in the correct forum and I'm new to this so bear with me.  So I bought this laptop around 5 months ago and only about 1 month ago the left side of the touch screen is not working. It would register that something is touching the bottom left side because I have my visual feedback turned on and after a half a minute of that, you can see it go haywire and register nearly the entire 1/3 left side. After 30 seconds of it going haywire, it would stop. And then either the entire left side or just the bottom left side would completely not register any touches at all. This wouldn't happen all the time, just every other day and definitely enough to be extremely annoying.  I bought my laptop in to get fixed for a completely unrelated problem because it's still under warranty and I told them about this issue but it doesn't seem like they fixed it and I'm thinking it's because it just didn't happen to happen to them when they had it. Also, I'm not sure if it's a software issue (since I don't think that's covered by warranty) or hardware. I have Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit OS, pen and touch support with 10 points.  Is there anyway that you guys can help me on this? It would be much appreciated.

Hi,I suddenly noticed that my touch screen is not working. I have tried to update driver for HID-compliant touch screen (however best driver was alread used). Also tried to disable/enable the device but still no function. I replaced the screen assembly (screen and digitizer) on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. The computer boots up and the display appears to work. However the touch screen and digitizer does not. When I go into the device manager-human interface-HID Compliant Touch Screen, the property box states: "Currently this hardware device is not connected to the computer (code 45)". I tried sesearching for new device without luck. Also tried checking for device updates and running the troubleshooting application without luck. Any suggestion or did I get a bad screen? FYI the orginal screen was a Innolux. the new screen is AUO. the new screen is listed as a compatiable with my system

I just received my brand new ThinkPad L380 Yoga yesterday and went through all of the regular set up steps.  The touch screen worked when I first opened it, but then after Windows 10 finished installing, the touch screen and pen no longer worked.  I have done all of the troubleshooting I've found listed in the forums and on the website aside from sending it back, but it still doesn't respond to touch.  The change happened right after Windows 10 was finished updating.  Is there something I'm missing?  Do I need to get an external mouse to try to disable the touchpad?  I'd really like to avoid sending it back if possible.  I know it has to be something I did and I just don't realize it.

The touch creen for my 2016 Yoga 260 laptop has stopped functioning. I've tried updating the drivers, disabling and re-enabling the touchscreen, and restarting the computer. The touch screen is not disabled by power saving settings. There was some kind of error that occured 3 days ago, but I do not have the technical knowledge to interpret this output. Hi all, I bought an 14" Yoga 710 and have problems with touchscreen from the first start up. After powering on, touchscreen works well for a while but after stopping to touch for just 5-6 seconds it is coming unresponsive. When it comes unresponsive i press in an area constantly right click function works and also touchscreen works well again for a while. It seems that after staying inactive for a couple of seconds it comes to an unresponsive state. I did lots of things (calling lenovo support, recovering Windows 10, HID driver deleting, updating, disabling, turning power management off HID items, turning to default bios setting) but nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas? My touchscreen is not working and I am on the phone with Lenovo Support.They have no clue but quickly suggest I return the PC.It took longer than expected to get this laptop (by weeks, from China) and now Lenovo support wants me to send it back without even trying to help resolve.  They claim the issue is the LCD but didn't do any debug. When I said I would send it back and get a refund they said OK. Very poort experience all around

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. Wondering if anyone can assist.  Upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago and the touch screen was working fine and within the last month it stopped functioning.  I have googled many help topics, and many suggest that I access my Device manager and click on the Human Interface Devices section find  HID-compliant touch screen.  The only problem is the HID-compliant touch screen is not listed as an option.  Does anyone have any suggestions on fixing this issue?

Whenever I use the pen while the screen is flipped back over 180 degrees (whether in tent mode, tablet mode, whatever) the touchscreen becomes unresponsive. The pen works just fine but the screen wil eventually stop responding to touch. THe only fix I found is flipping the screen to laptop mode and back. This isn't app specific either. I mostly use the pen with Artrage and Photoshop, but I just tested on Edge and Mail, and the touchscreen became unresponsive.  I can use the pen in laptop mode without it interferring with touch. Something tells me there's a software issue.  Are there any fixes to this? It's really annoying.  In addition, the pen input can be very buggy at times, it wants to stick to teh top of the screen and I often end up moving the window while drawing.  I've calibrated the pen a few times, and I use both the built in pen as well as the thinkpad pen pro one (the thicker one you can be separately).

I've had a happy first year with this machine. A few days ago it all went south.  No USB mouse (is a Lenovo Wireless USB dongle thing). No Touch on the display. The Lenovo Monitor that I use it with is a touch display and the touch on that is also stopped. In device manager I see this: I've tried all the usual stuff like deleting all the bad marked devices in the device manager and restarting and nothing works. I've ran all the latest Lenovo driver updates and that makes no difference. I've tried a hard wired mouse, but that comes up in device manager as bad. They all show: The drivers for this device are not installed. Hi, Today I updated BIOS to 1.38 version and then my touch screen was suddenly gone. I read all related posts here and now I am convinced that it is the problem because of the BIOS update. Because I am using my X1 Yoga as a touch machine for my work, I checked right after my BIOS update and it is not working. I tried downgrade and windows rollback but it did not turn back. My warranty is over but it is not my fault for sure. I have ben dealing with problems with this touch screen since I got the laptop.  It has been continuously ghosting, while it got better after the June update, it still ghosts without touches, until you start using the touch screen.  When using the touch screen it starts drawing gray lines in between the point im touching and the point its ghosting to (the lines arent always direct). I recently wiped my the drive, reimaged to a backup from april and tried reupdating it.  When I got to the touch screen drivers, I got through the initial setup and told it to open the update when finished but the machine froze.  Now when I try to reinstall, I get to the finish page on the update tools install, have it open the updater, but the program immediately closes.Any help would be much appreciated.

On my Thinkpad Yoga S1, the keys t, y, backspace, enter, caplock, and left shift are suddenly not working. This seems to be a common problem on lenovo computers, but the lenovo forum administrator closed the only thread that attempted to address this without any solution. The lenovo admin said that too many diferent models were involved. I don't understand why these exact specific keys are affected on so many Lenovo models. Lenovo has no solution, and will not support a thread to work towards one. The Microsoft store already replaced my keyboard under warrenty over a year ago, but the YTP S1 is now out of warrenty. This does not seem to be a hardware problem given the relatively recent Keyboard replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wont buy another Lenovo if this problem cant be solved. I've had tremndous problems with this computer and have found Lenovo to be unhelpful/unresponsive. This was an expensive computer when it was purchased.

ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... Today my digitizer stopped working for the first time since I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga several years ago. Touch screen still works as normal. I don't think it's software related because I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and it doesn't work in either operating system. Before it would work in both operating systems, and I haven't had any updates since it was last working. Is it possible for the digitizer itself to be broken somehow? I haven't dropped the device or spilled any liquid on it. I've read elsewhere on the forum that the digitizer is powered by a capacitor that is charged within the laptop. Is this still true for Thinkpad Yogas? Are there steps I can take to diagnose the issue?

I recently discovered a vertical band where the touchscreen is half-dead in a vertical band.  If I draw horizontally quickly over the vertical band, it will draw over.  However, drawing vertically and drawing slowly horizontally over the dead area is not detected.  Refer to the picture where the white space is between the two orange lines.    I'm using my finger (touch input).  The screen is Wacom ready but I don't have a Wacom pen. Any suggestions?

It's hard to be sure without seeing it, but I am guessing that some of the fine wires in the digitizer are cracked.  Are you under warranty?

I have recently purchased lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga from Germany. I have tried to install different versions of linux ubuntu in dual boot, but none of them seems to work. It boots from the bootable usb and gives the live ubuntu and install ubuntu options but when you enter then it displays a blank screen and nothing happens afterwards. I am facing another issue pretty consistently that the touch screen becomes unresponsive most of the times. When i use the pen it works fine but it does not works with my fingers. Looking forward to some solution as its pretty annoying experiencing such bugs in such an expensive machine. Thanks

Hello Lenovo Forum, I installed Xubuntu on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one day I tried to poke around and click the mouse button during boot time. Then I had the magical on-screen virtual keyboard popping up on the GRUB menu. You can see a photo of the on screen virtual keyboard here: http://imgur.com/p6JUrQr I also give a video showing how to activate the keyboard: Basically, clicking left mouse button (either the one on the trackpoint or an external mouse can work) will bring up the virtual keyboard. You need to touch it quickly, because every time any content on the screen changes (in this video, that is the countdown which refreshes every second) the keyboard will disappear. Touching the a key on the Virtual keyboard is equivalent to pressing the corresponding physical key. In this video I clicked Down Arrow, Up Arrow and Enter and booted Xubuntu. The Keyboard shows only in the GRUB Menu, as far as I have tested. It does not pop up in BIOS even if you click the left mouse button in BIOS. Is there a more detailed description of this Keyboard available? I searched "Thinkpad Yoga 14 virtual keyboard grub" but got no useful results, so the Keyboard looks like a secret, an easter egg or some maintenance mode to me. Personally I think this keyboard will make it very convenient for those who use the Yoga in tent mode / presentation mode / tablet mode and need to reboot across Linux and Windows and have no external USB keyboard and do not want to co... Hello Community,Please help me with this issue that frustrates me. I try to? ?re-install Linux (Manjaro) on my Lenovo X1? ?Yoga? (?1? ?Gen?) ?as dual boot? (?Win10?) ?after SSD replacement.I can boot UEFI? ?from a USB flash drive.? ?Linux life USB ?boots without issues only that after boot has finished the notebook keyboard and touch pad does not work.? ?The touch screen is working.Linux and Win10 were working without issues prior to the HW change (SSD card, followed by motherboard, screen and keyboard).Win10 works and Linux at Grub level works, however after boot the keyboard and touchpad does not. What I did:Started Windows10 , rebooted need to press F12 to get to boot order, selected USB HDD, booted.Same result. Can use the keyboard in selecting of e.g. driver free or nonfree; and then start the boot process. After boot, only touch screen works, keyboard and touchpad are not working (that is the same for current and earlier Kernel Linux versions ( tested Manjaro (Arch), Mint (Debian), Puppy (Ubuntu), Solus). What could I do next to troubleshoot this issue which must be software related. Thank you for your interest in helping me. Kla

Fired up the laptop this morning and I'm seeing my Touchpad & mouse cursor periodically jumping to the top left of my screen.  Double checked BIOS and all updates.  Clean report on diagnostics.Swapped out HD for a fresh W-10 software load and same behavior is observed.  It's gotta be hardware. Which board controls the pointing device cursor location ?  BTW, screen was replaced on this unit >2yrs ago.   Unit was 100% until this....!

Guys the worst Touch Screen i have ever seen in a Laptop, STYLUS is working fine but with finger sometimes screen recognizes & sometimes it does not. I have contacted customer care, visited service centre & even 2 times reset the laptop to factory settings but it does  not work. If someone have solution please suggest otherwise help others also not to buy lenovo or thinkpad touch screen laptops, they are the most worst laptops in the world.  My laptop worked very good for 2 months, i just purchased it in September 2018 but after that its touch is not working properly. First, to make this absolutely clear: there isn't even an entry in Device Manager, as in "there's an unknown device". The touch screen completely disappeared as a device. Nothing detects it. Even the WriteIt app cannot start because it cannot detect touch or pen inputs. Second, this happened approximately two months ago. Since many updates installed then I cannot tell after which one specifically it happened. There were Windows updates but also a ThinkPad BIOS v1.38 update through Lenovo Vantage. After that the touch screen hasn't work and is still not working. That's two months. Unfortunately I cannot rollback updates through Lenovo Vantage (and anywhere else for that matter). I can only rollback Windows updates but there are so many, it'll be very time-consuming and inconvenient. I don't want to sound whiny and entitled but I still cannot understand how is it possible to have this issue for so long without any available resolution. Basically I cannot use the touch screen of a device which main selling point was the touchscreen. Is there a way to do a hardware diagnostic that will tell me more? I tried browsing through the BIOS but couldn't find anything. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I've always been very protective with my machine and haven't abused its flexibility in any way. It's mostly staying as a normal laptop on my desk with the ocassional change of posture to bring the touchscreen closer to me. I really hope something can be do... Read more

I just received my P52 with the 4k "touch" screen and Nvidia P3200 but as delivered Windows doesn't think it's a touch screen. There is no touch functionality and in device manager there is no touch screen in human interface devices. In monitors there's a "wide viewing angle & high density flex view dislay 3840 by 2160". HID service is running. There doesn't seem to be any touch screen driver on lenovo' website for P52. Lenovo it's prettybad to buy a high end machine and have it arrive with screen hardware not enabled.  Does anyone know how to enable it? Thanks

I have an Acer T272HUL touch screen and use it with my Protools Audio Recording Rig. I use windows 7-64 exclusively. Recently the left mouse click just stop working (both single and double). At first it happened on my laptop HP 8560W, it was already a few years so I decided to buy a new faster machine and went for the HP Z240 T model as they are certified by AVID. Just finished installing all SW from scratch but still the same issue occur; When I connect the touch USB cable, the mouse clicks just stop working. A reboot without the touch cable and all is fine. (The touch itself works brilliantly in all respects.) Tried all possible variants of usb 2/3 ports, changed to different mices (usb/ps2) Also tried to Google the problem intensivly, but nothing on this subject in particular. I have recently purchased a lenovo thinkpad x230 tablet from ebay. The seller specified that the laptop supports both touch and pen input. But only the pen works, the touch screen doesn't work.
After searching online quit a bit, I discovered that some models of x230t are only pen input (no touch).
But I don't know if that is the case with my laptop or is it some hardware or software problem, and I wasn't able to find any online documentation about the models that support touch.
My model number is: 3438-2S1, and my serial number is: XX-XXXXX.
Also attached is a photo of my laptop screen, if it helps in anyway.
Can anyone please help me?

brand new out the box and the left speaker isnt working. already resintalled the drivers.I am assuming its hardware and not software. anyone esle??

HI. I BOUGHT YOGA 510-14ISK ON 26 FEB 2017. I FORGOT MY LOGIN PASSWORD SO REINSTALLED THE WINDOWS (WINDOWS 10) AFTER THAT THE TOUCH SCREEN IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. I TRIED ALL UPDATES AND DIFFERENT DRIVERS. BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT DRIVER IS FOR TOUCH SCREEN IN DEVICE MANAGER. ANYBODY KNOWS ABOUT THIS? THANKS AHSAN.

My touch screen is not working at all, I have not done annything to damage it and it seems like a driver problem because my pen still woks, but not perfectly. The pen is laging when I use it in the senter of the screen and jumps a lot, but when it is at the sides or top/botom it works perfectly. I have updated the drivers for them but the problem is still there, pleace help

PLEASE HELP - just did full a WINDOWS 8 RESET and cycled power several times and still no pen and touch.  (original post below)   What is Code 45 in device manager? What next?      Re: Yoga 2 Pro Touch screen not working 05-31-2016 10:00 PM  Im having same problem and hating it with no touch screen - pls help - touch screen was fine until I left a usb memory stick in too long and laptop was in tablet mode and automatically went to power save hibernate. When I woke it up the touch screen isnt working and "Pen and touch" is disabled- have read all these posts and now disabled USB power mngmt- dont want to upgrade to Windows 10- wanted to avoid complete reinstall Windows (basically dont want to lose MS Office)- DevMngr hidden devices shows a HID-compliant touch screen "Currently this device is not connected to the computer (Code 45)- laptop is Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (with touchscreen) and Windows 8.1
