I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I find the 100% setting for reading emails in Outlook 2010 too small and would like to set 150 or 200% as a default but I can't find any facility for this and I have to adjust the setting manually every time. Can anybody advise me please?

A:Outlook 2010 reading pane zoom default

Hello again urbanspaceman1

You have two options for doing this:

Option 1:
Create a new email type something and go to the "zoom" feature on the top right.
Select the percentage% you want the fonts to be displayed at.

Note: The fonts may not appear large when you are viewing them on the reading pane or double click open the email. For that view you will have to always manually zoom it yourself on the right corner in the bottom but you will be able to see the fonts large when you hit reply after doing the 2 points mentioned above.

Option 2:

Change your DPI settings following this tutorial:

I will search for similar stuff.

My boss is an Architect. He has alot of job folders saved in outlook which contain alot of attachments which are large files, CAD drawings, etc. His PST file is 10gb. We do a manual back up of documents and our outlook folders to a hard drive once every few weeks. Just copy and paste. When I try to copy and paste his PST file I get an error and it won't let me drag and drop it or copy. What is the best way to get these folders backed up? I haven't been able to back up the PST file for months. He does archive but even that is getting big. Trying to figure out a way to back up every week and keep folders at reasonable size. Any help is appreciated.

Not that large actually. The critical size of an attachment is 3Mb; larger than that and the e-mail doesn't leave the Outbox, and I get a send/receive error which means nothing to me at all. What is actually happening is that e-mail is being sent everytime Send/Receive happens, so addressees are getting my e-mail every 20 minutes - and usually phone me when they have downloaded 30 - 40 copies of the e-mail into their In Box, at which point I manually drag the message from 'outbox' to 'sent items'.

Any ideas on what's happening/how to fix (in simple English please)

A:Outlook 2010 and sending large attachments

There are a couple of ways around this:

Outlook 2010's Default Attachment Size
The above method involves changing the registry - please ensure that you backup the registry before making any changes. You can always restore if the result is not what you expect.

Alternatively, and probably a safer method, you could reduce/compress files with a 'zip' facility, e.g. WinZip. Here are some guidelines:

I can't get Outlook 2010 auto complete e-mail addresses to remain from session to session. Auto complete is removed every time I start Outlook again. I can put them in every session by dragging all my contacts to the inbox and pressing control + K to initiate auto complete for all my addresses, but once I close down Outlook and restart again they are not there and I have to physically type the address in which is becoming a bit of a drag. As you can see from the following image I have auto complete selected.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Outlook 2010 auto complete problems

For the benefit of anybody else who has this problem I was having trouble getting the auto complete e-mail list to remain after the current session. I had used a program called PC tuneup and it obviously emptied my auto complete list and my usual method of dragging all my contacts to the inbox and pressing control K would only work for the current session. In other words when I closed outlook and reopened it the auto complete list was empty. I ended up downloading a little app called nk2view and it works really well, not to mention that it made adding e-mail addresses to the auto complete list very easy.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The easiest way is to place an Outlook shortcut in the Startup folder.

Launch Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.

Right-click Outlook 2010 and select Copy.

Now go to Documents & Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and paste the Outlook shortcut.

Close Windows Explorer and Outlook should now startup when your computer does.

I have gone through what I think from numerous tutorials is the correct method of auto archiving. I have found the archive.pst folder in its appropriate position and it is only showing about 150m of data. My Outlook.pst is showing 4.5gb of data.
I notice that all the folders in my in box still contain all the entries from in some cases years back. I was under the impression that when archiving is done these folders should be cleaned up and the older stuff goes to the archive.pst.
When I set up the auto archiving I pretty well left everything at default.
If I open the archive folder from within Outlook and click on the Inbox properties it shows that there is nothing in any of the subfolders.

Obviously something is amiss, I just cannot locate what it is. Any help very much appreciated

Hello. I've been using Outlook since 1998 and I think I am hitting "the wall" with this particular problem.A couple of months ago I noticed that MS Outlook 2010/64 bit with Windows 7 OS was acting a wee bit unstable as it was crashing periodically when I would open an email. It was a minor annoyance that I just worked around. About a month ago, I discovered that if I opened the reading pane view for viewing email, the program would crash immediately. And now, Outlook has become a door stop as within the past week, I can no longer open any emails as the program crashes each and every time.I happened to run a utility program called "Mini Tool Box" yesterday on a "malware hunt" (a process I learned through this forum) which reports everything that is running on your PC. It also reports faulting applications, which in my case was Outlook 2010. I took the pertinent data from this report and sought a solution. A forum that I came across advised to run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe). I did so and the program found errors (it does not quantify what errors or how many errors if found). I let the program run, rebooted, and Outlook continued to crash as before.
Note:  The crashing of MS Outlook 2010 has occurred without provocation from changes in my system.  I have not added, deleted, any programs.  I do a weekly defrag and a sweep with a spy bot and C. Cleaner. I would appreciate any advice on repairing this pesky problem. Thank you.Jim Consid... Read more

I am using Office 2010 and have a problem thatI thought would be easy to fix but I was wrong!

I am able to open all attachments and preview them except PDF files. I used to be able to open/preview PDF files as well until I unchecked the box that says, " Always ask before opening this type of file" on the Open Mail Attachment (Exhibit 1).

Now all I get with PDF files is what you see in Exhibit 2.

I am using FoxIt Reader as default PDF reader but I get the same results when I make Adobe Reader the default.

I am familiar with making registry changes and have tried modifying the EditFlags key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FoxitReader.Document to both 00 00 01 00 and 00 00 00 00 neither made any difference to Outlook PDF Attachments.

Same for Adobe Reader when that was the default I modified HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document to both 00 00 01 00 & 00 00 00 00...no change in Outlook.

All I want is for the PDF attachments to behave the same way all the other attachments behave.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dell Latitude 810D probably about 4 years old running XP Pro SP3. The following has happened a few times in last 18 months but reboot has always solved problem - today it continues even after reboot. No new software has been added recently; anti-virus program runs in background all the time and full sys scan every night. Dell tech support says it is a software issue. I am not getting any error messages, just screen magnification that has not been asked for by user.

When opening Firefox or MSWord initially the web page (or word document) looks normal at a reasonable text point size, but within a few seconds it progressively zooms larger to over flow the screen. In Firefox it looks like 1,600% in Word it seems to go to 500%. In either application using the menu or keyboard shortcut to restore screen to a more readable text size only retains that for a few seconds before it zooms and over flows the screen. Usually clicking on the scroll bar to move vertically is erratic and even though you click to go down on the page the screen seems to jump downward but then back up on its own.

As I said, rebooting typical would solve things but not today. Using the computer of a friend as my laptop is impossible to work with. Typing text in browser search, or Word, or email program because of the magnification becomes nearly impossible to track. I have not tried other apps, but the magnification is consistent except that with Internet Explorer things automatically zoom out making things at ... Read more

Hi All,

I hope I could find some assistance here.
We are running an exchange 2003 server, with windows 7 machines (not ideal I know).

That aside, I am getting a scripting error when opening emails from a single user. This error ONLY appears on one users computer.
So to clarify, this issue only pops up on one users computer, and only occurs when opening an email (even in preview) from another single user.

I have so far:
- Run a repair of office 2010 on the computer that displays the scripting error.
- Removed email signature from the senders computer, in case of problematic fonts (Even though to other users on the domain, this error does not occur when opening emails from this same sender.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and would be more than happy to provide more details as needed.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before and/or if anyone has a fix for it? When ever I try and open some JPEGs from email in Outlook 2010 if comes up with this...

The file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:

Microsoft Outlook image previewer

To open this file in its own program, double click it.

.... I try and open up the file in Windows Photo Viewer and it says;

Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer.

.... This only happens with some pictures, others are fine, and they're the same format, JPEG. I've tried sending a sample through from hotmail to Outlook and these seem to work fine, its just from other sources that it seems to be temperamental.

I've done a system restore and uninstalled any programs I think maybe conflicting with it, although there wasn't anything that stood out. This problem wasn't there before, it must of appeared within the last couple of weeks but unsure of exact date as some pictures open and some don't.

There doesn't seem to be any updates for the photo viewer or Outlook!?

Any ideas much appreciated?

Normally when you try to send an email from a link from firefox via "file->send link", your default email program automatically opens assuming it's not already open. If Outlook 2010 is already open, no problem; it works fine. If it's closed, I get the error below about a dll error telling me to reinstall outlook 2010. if I manually open Outlook, I can then email the link.

If I insert the Office 2010 disc to try a repair, I get an other error (below) saying 2003 was not uninstalled properly and to uninstall it before I can do the repair (gotcha-catch22-can't get there from here, etc....). I see nothing in add/remove to indicate there is a trace of Office 2003 remaining. I can send screen shots of the registry if desired, but see nothing there indicating 2003 was not removed fully, but could be wrong. I'm fine with surgical edits if necessary.

I've been running Office 2010 for a year with no other problems beyond this and it's possible this existed from day 1 and it just took me a while to notice it..

Any suggestion on how to either fix the dll issue directly, or deal with the 2003 uninstall hopefully without uninstalling 2010 and starting over?

I also followed the idiot's guide to installing macros as indicated in the link above, and the macros worked...but as mentioned before, they refuse to stick around.

What do I do in order to prevent the macros from disappearing?

A:Word 2010: how do I change default viewing zoom of document?

i've never needed macros - i use the zoom slider at the bottom-right of the document window.

with saved documents, it seems that the zoom level is saved with the file - so if you saved at 100%, it will open later at 100%.

to set the level for new blank documents, use the slider, then close down word - the next new document will appear at that same level, with no need to save.

that's how it works for me, anyway.

just tested, and it keeps the level after a reboot too.

Try this.

Start Orb and type in magnifier. You will get Windows built in magnifier.

You can adjust the magnification from 100% to over 1000% but not much else.

It magnifies the whole page.

If there is- for example- 400 lines of data, the next line down won't have a number on the left. If I highlight this overly tall line and delete it, line 401 is now below line 400. I can't seem to be able to duplicate it at will, it just is there when I open this file. Again, sometimes, but not always, maybe once every 5-6 times I open the file. Thanks.

A:extra large bottom row in excel 2010

Can you scroll down to the bottom of this row & possibly drag up the bottom line so it's the same as the others.
Or you could right click on it & adjust the row height to the same as the others.

Make sure you save the spreadsheet after adjusting the row height.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. and every time I try to open a large folder with a bunch of loose images(by loose images, I mean no sub folders), windows explorer freezes up and I get an error called AppHangB1. At first I thought something was wrong with my memory card or card reader, because I couldn't open the folder in my memory card and it has a bout 3 GB's worth of loose images in it. But I have a folder about the same size full of loose images on my external hard drive and the I had the same problem.

I have a folder on my computer where I keep all my images, and it has at least a thousand images in it, but I can search through it just fine, because they are all divided into a bunch of sub folders. I only get this problem when I try to open a folder with several hundred loose images.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

A:PLEASE HELP! Problem with opening large folders

Do you have the folder view set to thumbnail view, if so, have you tried to set the folder to list view, just to see if it would open then?
I'm only guessing here but

Maybe a ram issue? How much do you have? have you run any test on it? Have you played with the voltage or timings in the past? Is your computer a custom build or retail?

Hey TSF, is been awhile

I'm wondering if there is some kind of program, codec, ect... to allow you to open large AVI files (large as in a few gigs apiece)

Winamp doesn't play them
Windows Media Player can't do it (it leads me to this which is irrelevant, its a video)
Edit: Just tried VLC, that doesn't play them either

I've also tried converting the files to other formats, with no success.

If it's at all possible, all help is appreciated!

oh and sorry if this is the wrong forum

A:Opening/Viewing large AVI files

Sounds like they are bogus AVI files.. Ive got a few AVI file that are 6.98gb (recored HDTV with a TV card). They play fine.
If you carnt convert them, then its possible they arent Video files at all..

I have Windows XP on my computer, but still am using Outlook 2000.
Messages come in automatically at regular intervals, but when I send an email, I must click on the "SEND/RECEIVE" button, or it will sit there until I do! It doesn't send even when a new message is coming in.

What can I do to fix this?

A:Outlook 2000 auto-receives, but does not auto-send

Hi Indy and welcome to the forums,

I have no experience with Outlook 2000 unfortunately but I would assume you have a setting turned off - something along the lines of 'Send e-mails automatically'.

I think it would be in Tools > Options? I suggest just hunting around in there and checking various settings

Hope this helps,

Friend of mine has a netbook with a 16:9 screen. With one particular app the bottom half of the window is off the bottom of the screen. There are no scroll-bars and the window has a minimum size when resizing. Resolution already set to highest.

Current solution is to count the number of tab-presses to know that the OK button is selected.

Is ther another solution?

A:16:9 screen - window too large

Have you tried adjusting the zoom? Look in the bottom right corner of the screen and you will see a percentage. Click on it and try adjusting that and see what happens.

I apologise if this question has already been posted. I did search here for an answer, but could not find one.

I have a brand new computer at work with a 22 inch flatscreen monitor running on Windows XP. For some reason the windows on internet connections are way too large. This is also true of software that is not run through the net - eg microsoft word etc.

The width of the screen is so big it needs a scrollbar. The size varies. On most sites it needs an extra 10-15cm

I have tried to lower the resolution but the general resolution is already set at its lowest.

If I customise the DPI setting, it simply makes the font smaller and harder to read, and graphics a lower quality - the window size remains the same.

Is there a way I can fix this problem?

Any help would be appreciated!

I have 2 questions

1. how do you make thumbnails in the file, where there is a little box with a generic scene?

2. how do you make a large window at the start of a program? in xp you could right click and it gave you a choice of windows if you wished..I want all windows to open in the large size

A:Thumbnails and large window

Just learned a little trick from this forum. If a page opens less than full size, make it full size. Then click on the X, to close, while holding down the alt key. Not 100% but it is a big help.
