Optiplex 5040 PXE Deployment Issue | WINPE5.0 Boot Image SCCM 2012

Q: Optiplex 5040 PXE Deployment Issue | WINPE5.0 Boot Image SCCM 2012

Not able to get the PXE working on 5040 . It will download the boot image from SCCM DP. Once it downloads it will not boot.
Network driver is already part of the Boot Image.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,
I am using the Windows 7 x64 Driver CAB in SCCM 2012 to deploy drivers to the optiplex 7040.
The "Apply Driver Package"  step is failing when trying to install the drivers, i receive the below error messages

DISM.LOG
CBS - Failed to unload offline registry ntuser.dat ACCESSDENIED
Unfortunately it doesnt give me details of the driver that is failing, otherwise i could just package the driver and apply it as a package.
All other builds are deploying fine so its definitely something thats only affecting the dell model, am using a 64 bit boot image already.
anyone seen this before?
I've seen some other posts which mention to use a 64 bit boot image which i already am, and this boot image works fine on all other hardware models.

thanks

Hi,
We are trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a Latitude E7470 with SCCM 2012 R2. We downloaded the CAB from Dell (en.community.dell.com/.../11830.latitude-e7470-windows-7-driver-pack) and created a driver package from this like we always do.
The TS fails right after the drivers for the system has been applied. When I press F8 and type IP config I see that it is getting a 169.x.x.x IP address. If I try to renew the address with "ipconfig /renew" it updates to a valid IP. I tried to add this to the TS and now it fails when the applications are about to be installed (error 0x80004005/unknown error). If I check the IP now it shows a valid IP.
We have no issues with all other Dell models we are installing.
I have tried with two different E7470's to check if it was faulty hardware but it is the same on both machines.
Anyone else having trouble with this model?

A:Deployment issue with Latitude E7470 from SCCM 2012 OSD

Update:
I used a driver grabber software (ConfigMgrDriverGrabber) to grab the drivers from one of the preinstalled E7470's. Then I imported those to a new driver package and it works now.
Something is wrong with the driver pack from Dell but I don't know what...

Hello all:
A couple of weeks ago I received a 7270 for deployment testing. My company currently runs SCCM 2012 SP1 (not R2/no CU's) with the ADK for Windows 8.0 and we deploy to a variety of Dell laptops including the 7240 and 7250. When I tried to boot the 7270 using our existing boot media it did not detect the network adapter.
I downloaded the latest WinPE driver pack from Dell, injected the drivers into our boot image, and still no luck. I then created a WinPE using the ADK for Windows 10. Booting from this image also resulted in the network adapter not being detected, but when I injected the Dell WinPE drivers manually it finally showed network connectivity.
Figuring the necessary network driver is definitely in the WinPE driver pack from Dell, I have tried several different tests to get the driver into our boot image for OSD to no avail.
Is anyone else testing the 7270 and having any luck?

Hi,
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds105362
We have SCCM 2012 R2. I was working on E7470 the other day and the I219-LM drivers found from Lenovo did the trick for both E7470 & 7270 models. Just import them, and add to your boot image.
It should be under here after you extracted the executable: C:\yada...\PRO1000\Winx64\. The NDIS62 and 65 folders in particular helped to get me going. (win7x64 and win10x64)
Though, there is still lots of work to be done to image these 2 guys w/o errors...Dell+MS...Sigh.
Good luck.

We are working to move our base OS to Windows 10.  I am able to image a Optiplex 7010 with no issues but having issue with Latitude 7470s.  I am able to PXE boot  to the Task Sequence list.  It kicks off fine, and the OS deploys without an issue.  The issues starts after the first reboot, the task sequence starts up again but fails once a Task Sequence needs network access.  We use Apply Driver Packages to deploy our drivers.  I have tried the Dell Drivers CAB package, the Intel drivers package, no driver package, and deploying all drivers.  Nothing has worked.  I have manually installed the drivers from the Dell Support page after failure and they apply fine.  I added those to the driver package but it still does not work.  I need to get this resolved ASAP.

Chipset: Intel Skylake
HDD: Liteon CV3-8D128-11 (Main suscpect, cannot find any drivers for this one)
Hotfix KB2990941 & KB3087873 are installed

I have successfully deployed WIndows 7 to a different Skylake computer with a Samsung drive. Help is greatly appreciated.

We have many different models of dell computers and we image with sccm 2012 successfully on all lines BUT we're just getting the 7040 line and they fail upon disk partitioning component of the task sequence. I finally found the proper drivers for the network and now it fails consisitantly on setting disk partition variables.
I have resorted to bypassing all partition info and set it to install the OS to the next available formatted partition (which does exist) and still come up with the same error. 80070002 which is a very generic error. It is not the driver but something to do with the hard drive or maybe the compatibility or even UEFI (which we have set to legacy mode). We are not using UEFI.
The OS is win 7 Enterprise but it never makes it to copying the OS. It fails on the disk partition. they are seagate 500GB drives with 16GB RAM or 8 GB RAM (same with both).

I am trying to reimage a number of EliteDesk 800's and am using an Offline OSD from SCCM and deploying by booting up from USB and deploying the image from the USB Key as an automated Task Sequence. The image is Win7 64bit Enterprise. The USB keys and Task Sequence are definitely working on a number of other machines but are having a problem with the EliteDesk 800. The task sequence keeps restarting the PC and getting stuck in a loop. I think that it's being cause by the UEFI environment because I see a Win8 start screen for 20 seconds as the machine restarts and before the Task Sequence kicks in again. Picture is attached. I have turned off Secure Boot and disabled UEFI plus enabled legacy boot.Has anyone encoutered a similar issue ?  Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hi,
I am having all sorts of trouble imaging a new Dell 5570 laptop with custom Windows 7 SP1 Ent. through SCCM.I have tried Dell support and their assistance so far hasn't been satisfactory unfortunately.

First: I had issues booting the laptop with my boot image, SSD was not recognized. I had to import Samsung NVMe drivers into boot image for the SSD to be recognized and to kick start task sequence.
Now: The task sequence doesn't go through. Immediately after 'Set up Windows and ConfigMgr', the laptop reboots and crashes with the error '0x0000007B'.

I have already tried below with not much success.

Dell Diagnosis says no faults detectedSATA Operation set to AHCI, RAID on in BIOSBoot sequence set to Legacy, UEFIWith and Without 5570 drivers after applying O.SWith and Without KMDF, UMDFDifferent WIM files-one recently updated with most hotfixes, one updated last year, one close to vanilla Windows 7 SP1 Ent.
Any help here is much appreciated please as I have around 20 laptops already procured from Dell and waiting to be imaged before deploying.

I've been trying to set SCCM 2016 up so I can use it to deploy OSs via PXE boot. But I just CANNOT get my client machines to boot correctly. It keeps booting to WDS and not SCCM. I enabled PXE boot (all options and password) on the distribution point, enabled DHCP on a separate server, and distributed both boot images and enabled PXE support on them as well. Also, when I create the Task Sequence and go to distribute it, it allows me to deploy it (PXE and boot media only), but does NOT give me any distribution points to distribute it to. After hours of rebuilding my VM network (Windows Server 2016 Standard running in a VMWare Workstation 14 environment), reinstalling and re-configuring everything, I STILL can't get my client machines to boot correctly. Do I even need WDS installed? If so, how am I supposed to configure it for SCCM PXE boot? Do I configure it before or after I install SCCM? I just can't seem to find a nice, clear, easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide on how to properly set all this up. PLEASE HELP!!!

We are using SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy an OSD image on Windows 7 x64 Professional.   I have downloaded and created a driver package for the EliteDesk 800 G3 MIni using the driver packages downloaded using the HP Softpaq Download Manager.   I have set "Legacy Support Enable and Secure Boot Disable" in the Secure Boot Configuration in the CMOS.   The device is able to boot to PXE,  will load the operating system image, appears to load device drivers, then fails on the first boot of Windows.   Is there any suggestions of any other CMOS settings or driver issues that may be contributing to this issue? Thank you for any suggestions! Shawn

So far, we have had four, reproducible issues (blacking out/flickering of monitor) with varying models of iPhones being plugged into the front USB 3.0 ports on OptiPlex 5040 small form factor PCs. iPhone 7, 6+, and 5S. Swapping cables does not affect result and upgrading BIOS to latest version also does not correct the issue.
There was also a user who had her screen blacking out with just her iPhone cable plugged in. This is the thunderbolt to USB cable. They use this cable to charge their phone and also to use their headphones with their Windows 10 PC. This cable is plugged into the USB 2 quick charge port.
These PCs are part of our Windows 10 deployment. I am unsure and have not yet tested this behavior on an OptiPlex 5040 running Windows 8.1 (the OS we currently have deployed).

I know the drive that MDT loads is --> PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_15B8&SUBSYS_06BA1028. I know the windows driver is Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V.
I have tried the WinPE boot drivers and direct from Intel. I have download 5 different versions of the this drive and tried x86 and x64 and still not able to get the WinPE to boot.
Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it?

I'm trying to successfully deploy Windows 10 on a Dell OptiPlex 790 in my lab environment in order to push Windows 10 out to several of these PCs currently in production. Despite the fact that Dell does not offer a driver pack for Windows 10 for the 790, an upgrade to Windows 10 using the Windows Update method works fine; however, when I run a LiteTouch install, the keyboard and mouse do not work unless I am using a PS2 keyboard and mouse.

Upon further investigation, I found that the "USB Root Hub" device drivers are not properly installed on the deployed OptiPlex 790. My steps for a solution thus far have produced no meaningful results. I have tried the following:

1. From a working installation of Windows 10 on an OptiPlex 790, performed a full driver backup/export and imported into MDT 2013 Out-of-Box Driver folder for model-specific-injection task sequence. After deployment completed successfully with 0 errors and 0 warnings, the drivers are still not loaded and keyboard/mouse are nonfunctional.

2. Created an application package to silently install Intel Chipset during the LiteTouch OS installation, which includes the proper USB drivers for the OptiPlex 790. Results are the same; yet if I run the install after deployment, the drivers are installed successfully.

I'm just about out of ideas on this one, but I KNOW there has to be something that can work. It doesn't make sense that a manual install of the chipset can produce positive results but the same cannot... Read more

I have a Dell OptiPlex 360 with Win10 and a Dell OptiPlex 755 with Linux Mint 17.2, both older and are the standard size cases. I've found with most computers that have the PS/2 ports also require a BIOS setting to Enable Legacy USB to get built-in support for USB 2.0 ports and USB keyboards and mice plugged into them. So far I've not seen BIOS support for USB 3.0 ports, have required software installed in/supported by the Operating System. Because of the change of some motherboards in leaving off the PS/2 ports I have changed my KVM from the PS/2 type to USB type.

Hi,
I have a new Optiplex 5040 for evaluation for customer rollout that is reporting approx 1G usable RAM less than our current Dell 7010's. Both system run win7 in 32bit mode.
When I use device manager on the 5040, view->'Resources by connection' and select the memory tab, I note the at physical address A4000000 - 7FFFFFFF there is a PCI bus, but the intel HD graphics 530 mapped in this space starts at E0000000.
I'm concerned about the gap between A4000000 and E0000000 compared to what I see on a 7010 or 7020.
Is it expected that HD Graphics card is mapped so far into the A4000000 range on a 32-bit system?
Maybe the gap between A4000000 to E0000000 is expected, if so, Where has the extra 1G gone?
Can I move the HD Graphics 530 closer to A4000000?
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Jason.

We are using Windows 7 64 bit and SCCM 2012 r2.  After copy the VPN does exist and is listed in rasphone however doesn't appear in network connections..  If there is a script I can use to create the connection that would be fine I am just not sure how to do that being I need it to be shared/available at log in.

We have been replacing workstations at our college with OptiPlex 5040s. We are running Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64. We use SCCM to image and have the latest Deploy OptiPlex 5040 Windows 8.1 Driver Pack loaded so the audio driver is current.

There have been many reports of students not getting audio from their headphones in the labs that have been upgraded to OptiPlex 5040 model. When I would head over to a lab and test a few random PCs (because the reports I was getting didn't include actual station designations), they would all work fine. I would plug in my 3.5mm plug earbuds and would get the audio popup asking what type of device I plugged in. Headphones is the default and so I would click "ok" and a few seconds later, the audio controls in the Windows taskbar would re-enable and sound would work fine through the headphones.
What I discovered was that if a student used USB headphones and then left the lab then another student comes in and plugs in 3.5mm headphones, they will not work unless the run the "troubleshoot sound problems" option from the task tray.
Anyone else experience this issue? Hopefully Dell is aware of this issue. All of our previous OptiPlex models had two audio ports (mic and headphone) and never seemed to have this issue.

My new (to me) OptiPlex 5040 SFF desktop can detect a 6TB 5900rpm SATA HDD but not a 10TB 7200rpm SATA HDD (HGST HUH721010ALE604). It has the latest BIOS, and the 10TB drive's operational wattage is only 6.8W so "power supply isn't powerful enough" shouldn't be the reason. The BIOS doesn't see this drive at all. Is there a chipset limitation? If I can never get the 10TB HDD to work, would an 8TB HDD work? I just want to have as much internal storage as possible. Thanks in advance for your help. BTW, this 10TB drive works fine in a 5-year-old HP 8300 Elite minitower. I refuse to believe that HP desktops are better than Dell's!

we have a batch of new 5040's
I have had SEVERAL users complain about flickering/blanking monitors-- the one I am looking at now--both monitors will blank out and return.  it was doing it probably every minute.
unplugging one or other monitor does not fix it.  will still blank existing monitor
no real commonality other than 5040's
bios / drivers are up to date
originally on a dell 19" on DVI (DP-DVI cable)-- blanked/flashed
new monitor--24" dell on DP (DP to DP)-- still does it
I am beginning to think there is a big problem with these display ports on the 5040's
also note that these users have two or three monitors each.
This is becoming a real thorn.

help!

A:OptiPlex 5040 SFF video is flickering/ blanking

I'm seeing this this precise problem with Optiplex 5040 systems with HDMI and 2xDisplayPort connections on board. I'm using Acer monitors, very inexpensive no-frills model V246HQL; not sure that matters.
Symptom: system works OK with a single monitor, via HDMI or DisplayPort to HDMI. System will not cold boot with 2 monitors connected if the monitors are HDMI and powered on. Turning one monitor off lets the system boot OK. Switching to a DisplayPort to VGA adapter works around it; and using an HDMI/DVI adapter plug also works around it.
Notable: this was after BIOS upgrade to 1.5.7, and 1.5.9. This was working on BIOS 1.2.7... I should have left it.
Onboard ePSA diagnostics will hang at "Video Card" test if 2 monitors are connected.
My workaround: use DisplayPort to VGA adapters, and connect 2 monitors via VGA.
A motherboard swap fixed this on one system. I'm about to have the second system repaired too under warranty.
I think this might have something to do with HDMI and DisplayPort display handshaking. I'm betting a future BIOS update might finally resolve it.

Hello, I am testing a Dell OptiPlex 5040 with Windows 10 x64 and am having an issue where each time the machine reboots, it sleeps or hibernates instead of booting back up.  I do not see the Dell splash screen.  The power light on the desktop remains on until I power it down and start it up again. I have tried removing all USB devices, removing multiple displays and have updated drivers however the issue continues.   I have also tried Enabling Block Sleep and Disabling Deep Sleep in the BIOS.Has anyone run into this?

Hi All!  I hope you are able to provide some input on my Windows 7 deployment issues on these NVMe-equipped desktops.  I have read the forums and have: 1.  installed the MS NVMe hotfixes on my fully patched Windows 7 image and recaptured it using MDT 6.3.8443. 2.  added m710q network drivers to my x64 boot image3.  use the latest SCCM driver package for the m710q The task sequence works on my VM (domain-joined with apps installed/network files copied) but when I deploy to an actual machine, I get a 0x80070002 error and when I reboot manually, stuck at the "support" login account window I created with the mouse and keyboard not functioning.  I boot off a WinPE bootdisk to get access to the logs (SMSTS.log among them) and I do not see any errors and in fact see that driver installation, windows apply, network apply, completed succesfully.  But I can tell these are false positives as I see it is not joined to the domain and folders copied from the network to the C:\temp folders are not present. I am currently trying a task sequence variable SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 300000 as I read that NVMe may be too fast for the tasksequence.  If this does not work, my next steps is to use the install m710q network drivers on the image itself but I would like to avoid that if I could.  Any ideas? Thanks!

But it works when i change the BIOS to Legacy or Hybrid UEFI.  Secure boot is disabled but still same error. Can you suggest ? Thanks,Rajith.

I have an OptiPlex 5040 mid-tower.  This is the standard desktop / mid-tower provided by my employer, so I can't just swap it out for a better one - I can upgrade the components, but I can't get a different model.

It will be used for Adobe Premiere video editing.  I have purchased 32GB of RAM and a 1TB M.2 hard drive for it.  All that's left to do is upgrading the factory video card.

What's the fastest nVidia card I can put in it that will work with the power supply in the 5040?

Honestly, I'd rather just replace the power supply with something better (and with the additional power plugs for video cards) and put an nVidea GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti in it, if anyone knows where I can get a replacement power supply that has the extra wattage and power plugs.

A:What is the fastest nVidia card I can put in an OptiPlex 5040 mid-tower?

The answer depends on the card itself.  Don't expect to fit a 1080-level card in that system - these are just about all too large to fit the chassis, even with the power requirements met by a replacement power supply.
Without a PS upgrade, you're looking at a mid-range 1050 card -- these can be had without the additional power connectors that higher-end cards need.  Also remember that most of these require UEFI systems - not legacy BIOS systems -- so you need to make sure you're running in UEFI mode or that you're willing to reload the OS after changing modes.

Hi All,
Looking at  towers in the current Optiplex range shows the 5040 is supplied with ddr3L 1600mhz ram  -  does anyone know if there's a particular reason for that older standard still being used?
On the outlet site there are 7040 towers (skylake cpus) advertised with ddr4 2400mhz ram  -  but won't those towers only be able to run their ram at 2133mhz?

A:Optiplex 5040 & 7040 - ddr3L & ddr4 (2400mhz)

The 5040 is positioned lower in the price scale, so less expensive DDR3L is used.
The CPU determines the memory speed -- so yes, the RAM will run at 2133 MHz with most CPUs.

Hi - has anyone managed to build a successful SCCM task sequence for the V110 series which installs the Lan driver? I had to imbed the lan driver into the WinPE image so that it can deploy via LAN, but  No Lan driver installed after successful imaging - even though its in sequence. No logs found in the normal place! Can't go to Windows 10 yet - just need to fix this, everything else has worked OK. Any help greatfully received.Tim

I have a 5040 mini tower i7-6700. Manual in Specifications/External Connectors section there is a Parallel feature "25-pin connector (optional)".   I was hoping that mean I could plug a cable onto the motherboard  with a 25 pin parallel connector.  Have done that before with other motherboards.  But looking at the mobo, I see only two unused connectors.  One is labelled USB - INT.  The other label is unclear.
Does the motherboard have onboard parallel support?  I would prefer not to install a parallel port card in the PCI slot.

A:OptiPlex 5040 Mini Tower optional Parallel support?

The documentation must be incorrect. I do not see anywhere on the motherboard to plug in a 25 pin parallel port cable. The internal parts page doesn't even mention 25 pin connector?

I have an Optiplex 5040 with an i7 and a free PCI-E 16x slot. I want to add a Geforce 1070 in this machine but I need a larger PSU to support it. Can I remove the factory one and install a 800w PSU and just use a 24-pin to 8-pin adapter cable to supply power to the Mobo while having the connections for the new graphics card?
