Preferred Solution: Check if a new notebook battery is genuine or fake

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Community! I bought today a brand new unused, unopened genuine 44+ battery. It was cheap, around 70 $. After open, I have relaized it looks different: Different stickerBox is not the usualStatic bagYellow warning sticker top of the boxMisspelled warning message: "Use of another battery may present a fire or explotion."Here are my pictures: [link] (Power Manager images with 54 % charge are the new battery, with 97 % are the old battery)Another thing spotted, image later. You can see the black duck tape under the lenovo Logo. I scratched and i found a SANYO label. Under the Lenovo logo you also can spot a LG Chem logo. Now what? Tomorrow I will post an image. Somone from Lenovo can check me the serial? Thanks!!!

Hi all - I recently purchased what I believed to be a genuine 44++ Lenovo 9 cell battery, however a few things have caused me to suspect it might not be genuine. When it arrived the sticker was loose as shown in one of the photos below, I thought Lenovo serial numbers had to be 22 characters and this only has 20?  The batteries I can see under the loose sticker I believe are the correct type though for the model? So perhaps the sticker was just loose and the serial number is fine and I'm worrying over nothing. Any ideas anyone? I tried to contact Lenovo on Facebook but had no response, can't find a support email address and can't raise a new ticket as I don't have a working serial number to use. Thanks Tim

A:Bought as genuine new, possible fake 44+ battery

This is a fake battery with no doubt. In general, we don't want to give public details why it's fake, so producers could possibly fix issues after.Anyway, from my recent experience, all of these are using LG or Samsung cells which are actually good and durable. Are you satisfied with battery life?If you purchased it on eBay, I advise you to contact the seller and ask for a full refund, especially if it was advertised as "genuine".In that way, after significant amount of refunds for "genuine" batteries, maybe we can impact that market.

If it was purchased from Dell, it's genuine and carries a 12-month warranty.
If it was purchased anywhere else, contact the vendor to find out - only they can tell you.

I have an HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, and the battery seemed to be working fine at first, but then it suddenly stopped charging and even when plugged in, it wouldn't charge. Now, its at 0% and removing the charger would obviously force it to shut down, thus forcing me to use it plugged in all the time now. I tried to use my HP Support Assistant to test the HP Battery Check and see the condition of my battery, but the results were a simple big Unknown. I have gotten the warning that my battery has low capacity, and I am not sure on what I should do. My laptop and battery isn't even that old yet. Please help me on this.

Hi, I have a new Windows 8, HP Pavilion 15 Notebook. I just updated my HP Support assistant recently and now cannot do the Battery Check. It says Battery - Unknown Status (93)  ??!  What is that and why can't it access my battery ? I have removed and re-inserted my battery but that made no difference. Also the battery is working and there is no issue with it that I have noticed but why cant I run the test ? I have the latest version of support assistant - 7.4.45.4 installed. How can I fix this issue with the battery check ? Thanks in AdvanceRegards

Hi crusader8, I saw your post regarding the problems are you having running the Battery Test in HP Support Assistant. I would start by uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Support Assistant. You can also use your HP Diagnostic Tools to check the battery. Under Component Test there is a Battery Test.  Try that battery test to see if it is seeing it correctly. Thank you,

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

Hi,

Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this but I wasn't sure where to start this thread?

Anyway, I'm trying to work out whether I've purchased a ligitimate copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. The seller on ebay is adamant that it was bought at a branch of Currys in the UK. My suspicions were aroused when I noticed that the hologram on the 64bit disk can be peeled off (image5) - according to the microsoft website these holograms should be 'in' the disk and therefore should be seamless. The hologram on the rear of the 64bit disk has almost completely come off as well (image6). The hologram is intact on the rear of the 32bit disk (image7). I'm unfamiliar with COA's so don't know if this is genuine or not either (image2)?

I'm getting very strong feeling from the seller that they are adamant that this is a genuine copy and that they have even been in touch with Microsoft to make sure the key is usable (it was originally installed on a computer which is now not working and destroyed). Microsoft have said to them that the key is genuine. They also said that have the original receipts from Currys as well. I've looked through their ebay history and have a brilliant rating. The seller does seem genuine and are not trying to pull a fast one...

I am honestly confused and don't want to get into a huge argument with the seller if they are being absolutely honest.

I'm VERY confused

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

Thanks, Robert

I have a new battery for my Dell Latitude E6530 because I had began receiving messages on the screen that the original battery was starting to experience decreased life.  The new battery appears nearly identical, but did not come in a Dell box.  I have been trying to search to see if there is a way to determine if this replacement is indeed an authentic Dell battery, but haven't found anything.  Does anyone know how to verify the authenticity before I install this in my laptop?

A:is Battery genuine?

It's a Dell part number and is genuine if purchased from Dell or a Dell authorized parts seller.  Anywhere else -- ask the seller.
6-cell in a 15.6" notebook will run anywhere from about 2 to 4 hours depending on power management settings, CPU type and screen resolution.

I purchased a replacement 70++ battery from a third party for my T530.  It came in a box with Lenovo tape on it, but I was concerned when I compared the information on the new battery to the old one.  The new one has min. 7690mAh and says Li-ion 20 versus the old one saying min. 7950mAh and Li-ion 00.  Is there a way to make sure the battery is genuine?  The s/n on the box brought up the right product number on the lenovo site, but that number isn't anywhere on the battery itself.  Also, the barcode number on the battery doesn't correspond with any numbers on the box it came in.  I'm concerned about putting it into the computer until I can gain some insight or verify the battery's authenticity.  Can anyone help?

A:70++ Battery, not sure if genuine

I cannot be sure, but I am concerned that the serial number isn't on the battery.  It normally is.  I would contact the seller.  I liked things better when the fakes really looked like fakes.

I have just purchased a replacement battery for my X220 as the current 44++ battery was down to around 50% of its original charge.  However I have read quite a few posts mentioning that there are a large number of fakes out there so I just wanted to run this past the experts to see if my battery is indeed genuine or a crafty counterfeit. Mine came in a Lenovo branded box and to my eyes looks genuine. The only thing that concerns me (and lead to this research) was the fact it states "Use of another battery may present a fire or exportion".  However reading other threads this actually may be a genuine typo. Photos available at: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvPybbu3LYv0kkBstGx2ShsHOOqE Thanks in advance! Howard

A:Is my new battery genuine?

If it was purchased from Dell, it's genuine.  Otherwise, ask the seller.  That product ID's date code indicates the battery was built 2012 -- so if it is original Dell, it's been sitting on a shelf for a while - or is used.

A:The fake card in a notebook

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. As per the official product specifications, the model comes (is produced with) with  AMD Radeon? R7 M440 Graphics:http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-17-y000-Notebook-PC-series/10862315/model/12221959/document/c... When you buy a PC from a reseller, please always ensure that the box the PC comes in was never opened before. This is some sort of a guarantee for the product's integrity and authentity, meaning that what was produced by HP in factory is the one you get at home. If the box was opened, damaged, manipulated, just don't accept the product and get a new one. In some coutries, there are some very "tricky" and "smart" PC resellers who modify certain components on their own (to save money) which is not the way it should be. If you suspect something is wrong with the PC, please return it to the reseller, get a refund or contact the appropriate authorities.

Hi,

I recently bought a new computer from someone who builds custom computers, in the excitement of getting it I forgot to check if the windows was genuine but I did ask if it came with the installation disc and he said it was in the box, upon getting home I opened the box to find a CD with WLDR written on it, at first I didn't know why it said that but when I put the disc into the computer there was one folder on the CD called Windows Loader, I know that a windows loader is for activating non genuine copy's of windows however when I went to the Microsoft website and ran the genuine checking tool it said it was genuine. Is it really genuine or does a windows loader fix the genuine check?

How do I stop this notification.  I have had this same battery since I purchased this computer  3 years ago.  I have never had problems.  This notification only showed up after the latest Windows 10  upgrade.  I googled this problem and found instructions to remove lenovo power manager.  I did this, but still  got the warning.  I looked at my services and disabled it . Didn't work.

Hi Anyone has a suggestion on where to buy x1 carbon 2nd Gen genuine battery And why are they the most expensive of all

A:where to buy x1 carbon 2nd Gen genuine battery

Looks like you will have to go third party to get one.  I understand what I'm about to write is a bit insensitive and not helpful but his is the problem with mobile devices the lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries only have a useful life span of five years from the date of manufacturing.

I have bought a replacement battery from a secondary vendor and the serial number is : KR-08NH55-71766-2PJ-EIDH-A18. Could you please let me know whether it is original or not, and what is the warranty for this product ? Thanks

A:Genuine Dell battery?

Only the vendor can tell you.  If it's an original Dell battery, it's not new -- it was made in 2012, so it's five years old).

I was notified of the battery recall and removed the battery to get its serial number.  After putting the battery back in it will no longer charge.  The light next to the power cord plug in also is no longer lit even with the power cord in.  I ensured the powere cord was properly pluged in.  Everything was fine pior to removing it and putting it back in.  Very strange.  Is there something that has to be done once a battery is taken out and put back it?

Hi all, I have a three year old HP dv6-6135dx that's been having battery trouble the past year and half or so (plugged in, not charging errors, couldn't hold a charge, computer only runs when plugged into adapter). So I decided to purchase a replacement.The replacement came with a 68% charge, which went down and finally died, and once again my computer would not charge the battery while the adapter was connected, at all. I went into the battery asisstant and ran the battery check but only got the error: "HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery." I did this for my old battery and got the same result. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I don't know where to start. But here is the situation. Today I called 4-5 PC hardware store to compare the price of 1 TB Seagate Barracuda. 4 out of 5 offered me U$86. Only one of them have the cheapest price, which was U$75. So I just walked in and bought it. Later I was curious what makes this store has significantly lower price. I called a friend who works on other store (which also among 4 stores). She said it is impossible to price it at U$75. And suspecting that I was cheated with refurbished HDD..! Is that it?
After some googling It was explained that it is not refurbished as the label has rounded corner cut. Other said to run seatools, I haven't done it yet.

Does anyone know the simplest way to sort this out?

A:How to Check Genuine against Refurbished Seagate HDD

From past experience, Seagate and Western Digital sell their refurbished hard drives as "White Label" drives. They are called such because the label on the drive is solid white with plain black lettering and looks like a cheap, generic label. Also, when the Seagate drive is plugged in it won't show up as a Barracuda or Free Agent. It will show up as either S1000xxxx or SEA1000xxxx. The S or SEA stands for Seagate (obviously) and the 1000 would be 1000 Gigabytes (or 1 Terabyte.) The last few random numbers are an internal code for a specific production run. A Western Digital uses a similar coding: WD0500xxxx for a refurbished 500GB or WD1000xxxx for a 1TB

It's possible for a store to get a really good deal on merchandise that knocks a lot of money off the usual retail price. If a store buyer is knowledgeable and has good contacts with the supplier, the buyer can find out about production runs that are called "seconds". A cosmetic defect that has no affect on product reliability could knock the price down considerably. Example: a label inside a run of shirts is sewn on upside down. Thousands of shirts are affected. Rather than re-sew all those labels the manufacturer decides to sell those regularly priced $50 shirts (that only cost $10 to manufacture) for $20. Then the store buyer marks them up to $40. Everybody makes a profit and the customer gets a great deal. Same concept could apply to that hard drive for U$75.

If you run SeaTools, or plug it in to y... Read more

Hello SevenForum Viewers/Members.

Today im am going to cover something really simple, but yet very helpful. If you have bought a laptop or desktop second hand, or you have bought windows but would like to check if it is genuine this is how.

During this tutorial we are going to be using "Elevated Command Prompt".
Basically CMD run as an Administrator. A Full tutorial can be found here:
Elevated Command Prompt

Here we go!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Firstly Open CMD In Elevated mode:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now we should see Command Prompt Open.

Next we are going to insert this code:

I have also attached a .txt Document with the code in.

Code:
slmgr -xpr
slmgr -dli
slmgr -dlv
Copy this form here, go into Command Prompt, Right Click and Paste.

After you have done this Hit Enter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now we should see 2 boxes pop up, This Is the Information we want.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You will now be able to tell if your windows is genuine.

A:Check If Your Windows Is Activated And Genuine!

All very well - but doing it this way will miss many non-genuine flags, and the install could very easily be counterfeit, all your tests results being invalidated by a hacker's Activation Exploit.

The only way to get close to 100% reliability is
1) Know the source of your Key/Package - is it reliable?
2) If there's the slightest chance of the source being other than 100% reliable, run an MGADiag report, and post the results in his forum for an expert to analyse.
We will normally catch better than 80% of counterfeits which your tests above wouldn't find.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Battery of type: RN873, Rating: 11.1V, Capacity 56Wh.

Currently this battery is not available in the market and whenever I purchase online for a battery of Inspiron 1525, I am getting battery of different type, Capacity 48Wh. Can you help me to get an genuine dell battery?

Please would appreciate your help. Thank you!

A:Need and genuine DELL 1525 BATTERY

For a genuine Dell battery you'll pay $80-100 -- consider carefully spending that on a system that has a resale value of between $50-75 on the used market (in other words, you'll be spending more on the battery than the system is worth).
