I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ever since the most recent Windows 10 update, I have been unable to connect to my apartment complex's secured internet connection (Reserve 802.1x). Whenever I attempt to connect, I get a Windows Security sign in prompt box that prevents me from connecting (I am not sure what information would even go in here to make the sign in box go away.. I tried my computer username/pw and that did not work, so I am not sure what else it would be).
The connection is there, and my roommates are able to connect. However, I am able to connect to the slower, unsecured internet connection (Reserve Wireless).

I called Microsoft and spoke with the Windows support specialist. He said it would cost $99 for a one-time conversation with tech support, or $140 for a year-long subscription. I do not believe this is a technical issue, as connecting was not an issue prior to this forced update. I also do not have $99 or $140 to spend on something like this.

I currently have a wireless network set up at home which I connect to with a PC and 2 laptops. The PC runs XP and the laptops Vista.

I cannot connect to the internet on the main PC but have no problems on the laptop.
I have looked on various help websites and run the IPCONFIG/ALL tip. All info looks to be correct with IP address as usual.

Can anyone give me advice as to how to fix this?

Hi there,

I have 2 computers (+ a laptop sometimes). Both computers are ethernet hard wired to a belkin wireless router & the laptop uses 'wireless' connection.

Both computers often remain on for hours; the main one (with the router installed on it) will very often fail to connect to the internet via explorer, O/E or even any updater (avg etc.) after being on for several hours. A reboot cures the problem.

However, the other computer never loses its connection. (Nor does the laptop). All run the XP o.s.

All suggestions for a cure gratefully accepted please.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I can connect the laptop to the router by wireless and I can browse the local network and see the other PC's BUT the internet is shown as not connected. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. Other wireless devices (iPad for instance connect to the internet fine).

I have re-booted the router.

Anyone got any ideas?

All i get is that it's, not connected to the internet. The Ethernet cable is plugged in and (as i couldn't fix my laptop i have a Ethernet cable to the laptop too) it still says it's not working. I have tried switching the cables over, to see if it would work that way, but it wont. The computer is Windows XP, and it has Zonealarm as it's security and firewall. I have tried everything i know, but i can't do it.
I have gone into the command propt, and typed Ipconfig/release, then, ipconfig/renew, then exit. It worked for a little bit on Windows live messenger last night, but today nothing will work. Can anyone help me please

I have a netgear WNR2000v3 router. My computer connects to the router fine, but today, my iphone no longer can connect to the router. It connects to the repeater fine (which is an old netgear router that I installed dd-wrt on and turned into a repeater), but not the main router. In the iphone settings, the router shows up with full strength, but all the IP Address and that is blank. I recently had trouble with my internet connection and the cable company reset my modem, but I have connected to the router on my phone since then, just not today. Do you have any idea why this might be happening?

ETA: I did finally get it connected by manually entering the name of the router. Is it possible that my router is limiting the number of devices connected to it? Because now that I have my phone connecting to that wifi, I'm unable to access a laptop computer through splashtop streamer, when I could reach it before I connected to the router with my phone.

I'm not sure if I should put this here or in the Networking forum but hopefully I can get help here.

I'm running Windows 7 RTM Build 7260 (been too lazy to upgrade to the copy I get through MSDN).

I cannot connect to any websites from my main (Administrator) account, my mother's (Limited) account works fine, my laptop loads every page without problem, and I can sign into MSN Messenger and Steam without any problem from the problematic account. I cannot even connect to my router config page.

Things I've tried:
-Resetting Modem/router
-ipconfig /flushdns
-Reseting the TCP/IP stack
-System Restore (to yesterday, when the problem wasn't happening)
-Changing my IP settings to DHCP configuration instead of Static IP

I receive a response when pinging google.com, so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with DNS resolution.

The problem occurs in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

The error message I get in Firefox says:
"The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading"

I am currently running a scan with Trend-Micro, but I don't think anything will turn up.

I have a desktop with Windows 7 32-bit that I have my Netgear28 wifi router plugged into. I've never had problems connecting to my desktop with any of my 4 other laptops or accessing the printer through it. However, I just bought a pawnshop 64-bit Win 7 laptop with all kinds of bloatware on it, including Norton. Can access the internet through the router, and the homegroup says it is connected. I see my main computer fine, but if I try to connect to it or EVEN THE LAPTOP I'M ON through "Network," I get the following:

"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

Cannot access printers attached to the desktop.

However, I can access the laptop from the desktop without any problems, though.

All network settings that I can see on both computers are the same. Firewall is off.

At my wits end. Any more info you want? Thanks in advance.

Note: I have searched the error message and have seen lots of answers, but can't seem to fix it.

Hello and welcome Venture mate probably the best thing to do is a clean install to get rid of all the bloat and crapware especially if you do not have a lot of data on it.Otherwise save the data then do that.

The main screen of my tablet PC goes black as soon as I plug-in the VGA cable to a second monitor. I guess this is the result of me selecting an incorrect display mode for the monitor. The secondary monitor (A Samsung 1920x1200) complains of the video signal mode and does not display anything other than an error window.

The dual display mode worked fine before I made that mistake. I guess the resolution used for the secondary monitor is now incorrect. I would need to reset that value with the secondary monitor disconnected. That's what I am looking for.

Now when the VGA cable is disconnected, I get back the screen. I have looked at all display controls and the 945gm controls, but I had no luck restoring the secondary monitor settings.

I have tried booting Windows7 with the secondary monitor connected. I get both the main display and the monitor working in mirror mode when in BIOS mode, but I loose both as soon as windows7 is activated.

I would need some means to have windows7 reset the whole display subsystem.

Does anyone knows how to solve this issue.

Thanks for any clue.

PC is Motion LE1700, L7400 dual processor, 1440x1050
Secondary monitor is Samsung 1920x1200

A:Main display goes black when I connect VGA secondary monitor

I assume from your display resolution that you have a Samsung T260 ?

You can get the correct driver for it here;

Quite a few machines require that you switch them over to an external display. How this works ,varies from machine to machine.

You may also need to click on the desktop, "Screen Resolution", and choose "Extend these displays";

I thought I was resetting my connections to default so my Internet would work....

Here is the weird thing, I can connect to my VPN for work no problem, and able to log onto the Internet after and only when the VPN is connected. If I unconnect my VPN, I CANNOT LOG ONTO INTERNET ALONE!!!??? Please help me !!!!

Can I UNDO what I did yesterday? This is what I did below yesterday:
I followed these instructions....

Hey all,
I'm going away for a while and am taking my laptop with a USB Internet stick and my ipod touch.

My question is can i connect my Ipod to the internet through my Laptops Wifi (remembering it's a USB Internet Stick).
I know it can be done if you have a LAN Internet connection, but can it be done with USB internet.
Any ideas..

A:Solved: Connect Ipod to laptop internet using USB internet.

If by "USB Internet stick" you mean mobile wireless, which is my assumption, then it depends on whether the carrier blocks or allows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Some people have had difficulty getting ICS to work on USB connections, but it usually works.

You needn't answer, but I am curious as to why you want to do this. I have an iPod Touch that I call my "pocket computer" 'cause I can use it for internet access away from home w/o carrying a laptop; but I don't think of using it when I have a laptop available.

Hi, i am having trouble with IE7.

problem -
when i try to load any internet page using internet explorer i get the following message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

possibly related factors -

• The system i use is windows xp, professional.
• My FireFox browser also does not work, i get the message "Failed to Connect" when i try to load any internet page.
• My Opera browser connects to the internet and loads internet pages fine.
• Programs such as MSN Messenger and Teamspeak work fine.
• Other programs such as Ventrillo and mIRC do not connect to the internet, they tell me they cannot access the server.
• This problem began after FireFox automatically updated.

I have tried these solutions -
Turning off my computer's firewalls and my router's firewalls.
Openning ports.
Resetting my router and computer (obviously i've tried this).
Resetting programs (like IE) to their original settings.
Redownloading programs (like IE).

I thought maybe it's my router that's the problem. But my other router has died so i can't do anything if it is the router.
I really don't know what to do to try to fix this problem now so hopefully somebody will be able to help me... Read more

I just bought this laptop about 10 days ago to use specifically for a writing project separate from my other work laptop. It has Windows 7. It had Google Chrome installed (or maybe my brother installed it upon taking it out of the box.) I have
used IE as my browser on this laptop once or twice, but mostly use Google Chrome. I downloaded some genealogy software I just bought today about an hour or so ago (Family Tree Maker 2012) and noticed that it would not connect to the internet to register- it
kept saying "No internet connection". After trying a few things (allowing the program access through Windows Firewall, checking to make sure that "proxy server" tab was not checked in Internet Settings, disabling some Bing Maps and Windows
Live email accelerators) and finally tried closing Chrome and opening IE to run in background instead. However, IE won't connect - keeps saying "Cant display webpage" although I am definitely connected to internet via wifi. I tried resetting Internet
Explorer...no dice. I've restarted several times. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?
My husband thinks i should uninstall Chrome, which he guesses is causing all the trouble with both IE and the Family Tree software. But I'm afraid that if I uninstall Chrome and it doesnt work, i wont be able to get back on the internet since I can presently
only do so through Chrome.

A:IE won't connect to internet, but Chrome is working fine. Other software wont connect to internet either.

Uninstalling Chrome should not be nessesary it does have an agressive default install which should not be used but uninstalling will not fix any issues because chromes uninstall will not change
setting back the way they were before you installed it/ or who ever.
Reset ie9 manually,
Click the Start button on the Taskbar,
Click on Control panel,
Click on Internet options,
Go to the Advanced section,
Click on Reset button on the bottom,
Check the box to Delete personal settings,
Use the recommended setup and install options.
Also see this,
New computers come with pre-installed security suites/ Trial versions,
The best thing to do with these trial versions is to Uninstall them,
Use these instead,

This is probably some application trying to connect to the Internet for updates or the like before networking is initialized. Without knowing anything about the environment, it's hard to be more specific.

Try disabling groups of startup applications using MSCONFIG and see if you can get narrow down the startup process that is causing the issue.

The power cut may have disabled your connection.

First port of call, check Network Connections; may just be a case of right clicking on Local Area Connection and selecting 'enable'.

May be that simple, otherwise can you get another Ethernet cable to test it.

A couple nights ago I went into my netgear router using the admin and password like I've always done. I set a static IP and port forwarded a couple ports to help with some connectivity issues with a PC game.

Ironically enough, the minute I pressed save changes, the connection dropped from every computer and the xbox 360.

Past couple days I've tried getting the network back, figured out it somehow became an Ad Hoc network. I uninstalled all the linksys network adapters from the computers, turned off the modem and the router. After that I reset the router back to factory defauls and tried to set the network back up. Nothing has worked, the router won't show up even though it says the PCs are connected. The only connection that works is some random linksys 2 mbps I somehow set up.

modem - motorola sb501
router - netgear WGR614v6
adapters - linksys wusb54gs

all I need is the ability to get back into the and I think I'll be fine but nothing I've tried the past few days has worked.

A:Main internet connection disappeared?

I understand that you have a problem or two, but I'm not sure what it is. The Netgear router is now at factory default settings? You connect a PC to it via ethernet and you do or do not get assigned a good IP configuration?

Hi everyone, I am currently having an issue with my network. Basically, every time my main PC is shut off, the wireless will drop it's internet connection. Devices will still connect to the wireless, but there will be no internet connection.

This had happened before, about 5 months ago, and I had fixed it by unchecking the TCP/IPv6 in my network adapter but now the same issue has come up. My main PC is wired direct to the router, which is a D-link DIR-655. As long as my PC is on, then the internet will work fine. If it is off, then at some point the connection will get dropped and not come back on until my PC is turned on again. Any help on this issue would be great.

Control Panel/network sharing, right click on the network connections and choose properties, then sharing - maybe something there will help.

Having problems with my network and cant for the life of me work out why.

My main computer (running windows 7) is connected directly with my router and connects to the internet no problems.

When I plug my laptop (windows vista) into the router, it also works fine.

My xbox 360 is also plugged into the router but won't connect to the internet. When I run trouble shooting, it says it has a network connection but no Internet connection.

I have a cable running from my router to another room which has a network switch. Everything that is plugged into the network switch will not connect to the internet, including my laptop which works when plugged in to the router.

Can anyone help me with this?

Have bought the philips router SNA6500, its all configured into the main pc, (system windows XP)
When requested, the details of the ISP and password were entered into the configuration page. However, doubled clicked on internet explorer and my ISP connection window said no connection was found.
the base station itself is lit up 'online', i'm able to write this email from my laptop in the next room so essentially wireless IS working. Just the main pc of the home will no longer dial up to its broadband connection.

any suggestions? any time we want to go online on the main pc we have to plug back in the old adsl modem as before, which means no wireless connection for the lap top elsewere.

any ideas would be gratefully received.

Guys in the know,

our business HQ is at the very end of a BT exchange and as such we can only get 512Kbps, yes read it again 512Kbps adsl connection!!! Already contended it then has to be shareed between 50 users in the building.
Its download speeds are intermittent and range from 60KB/s down to 3KB/s (the lower speeds are more common).
Its THAT bad.
Now, the boss won't pay for leased line as its still quite a lot of money for in his eyes very little return (no matter how many positives i give him, he just doesn't understand )

Our laptop users when in the field connect to the internet and into our server via vodafone 3G usb modems currently as 3.2Mbps. We are due for upgrades to 7.2Mbps in the next month.

Now, after all that flannel, i theorised about using one of thess usb modem running at 7.2Mbps as an 'alternative test' for our main business internet access.
Can anyone see any logic with this theory bearing in mind:
Vodafone probably don't supply static IP's with these things (our sp is checking this for me).
It would be over 10x the speed we currently have.
There is a mast very close by so we should always get a good signal for max. speed.
We used to have Wireless SDSL (old tele2 stuff) but that was pretty crap! so we changed to ADSL.

We operate a domain client/server environment with exchange 2003 (using our own smtp) and windows 2003 servers.

Any advice really appreciated, thanks.

I can't connect to the net

I had the virus antimalware doctor, so I decided to kill it in safe mode but the computer wouldn't enter windows so I repaired it with the xp disc. It went back to sp1. So I had to upgrade it but both firefox and ie6 wouldn't work on the net even the iPod wouldn't work until the computer was off. But I found out the intel bus thing from device manager was need in help.

But bow I realised the net worked just before it so I fixed it. so I tried to update to sp2 via windows update but ie6 was failing me until I unchecked all that auto detect an ie6 worked. So I upgraded to sp2.
So the net worked fine an I upgraded to sp2 but now the net is dead and the only way to acces the net is via the iPod with the computer off.

so, how do I fix this bet prob??

One of my neighbors Windows XP SP2 computers was attached. After Windows loaded, they got a window that flashed "Warning Dangerous Spyware". Using TechSpots 8 step program, at Step 4, Malwarebytes removed the malware and computer booted normally again.
However, now we cannot connect to the internet. The NIC card (part of the motherboard) seems to be OK. It connects. ran diagnostics which said it was fine. Can print to remote printers and can see other computers on the home workgroup. Can also ping them.
Completed the remainder of the 8 steps and still no internet. Followed Microsoft Knowledgebase 926431, You receive an error message in Internet Explorer 7: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" still no internet. Ran Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool -No Internet.
Followed another websites 6 step method still no internet. (pinged to www.testmy.net successfully)

Hijack this file and Malwarebytes M-Bam log files are attached.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Think we need to know a whole bunch more a bout your environment.
Here are some of the things we need to know.

The “Johnwill” need to know about your environment questionnaire:

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? Have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way? Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I have recently got sky broadband, and have set it up. My laptop does connect to the network and laptop, however my friends will not.

He has a HPG60, and is using Norton 360 on windows vista. He can connect to the network, but it will not connect to the internet. He can connect using the ethernet cable though.

It also comes up as an "unidentified network"

I have tried quite a few things I have found, but none of them seem to help!

Will provide any information needed I can provide.

Thanks for any help you can give!

I downloaded a particular software trial and found it did not do what I wanted so I deleted it using an uninstall software I have had for over two years.

Immediately after I could not get online. I get this error message

"Windows can not connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP.
This probably caused by firewall settings. Check settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)"

I would normally use restore but for some reason it stopped working about two weeks ago.

Running a virus scan now and it is almost done and no problems.

Can anyone help?

Hi everyone,

I am having this problem again, the last time I had my network adapter replaced and it worked fine.

But now I am not able to connect to the internet since our modem/router got spoilt and we got it replaced yesterday , I was able to connect to the internet for a short period of time then I could not connect to the internet, I was having unidentified network and the "X" was on the internet connection.

I did try to get vista to auto fix it but, it don't seem to work.

My other friends are all able to log onto the net except me unless I use my wireless adapter then I am able to log onto the net.

My network adapter that I changed a few months ago seems to be working fine, the lights are on but I still cannot connect to the internet.

Anyone with any ideas what can be the problem?

Please help!
Thank You.

My computer has recently become incapable of connecting to my home internet. My apartment building is wired, and I have an internet jack in my apartment. The jack in my apartment is connected to a netgear router. The building also has two routers for general use, linksys and netgear. Since I moved into the building in October, every few weeks I would lose my access to the internet. Usually I just reset the router and it was fine.

In the past three weeks, this has not worked. I often go several days at a time being unable to access the internet, whether I am using my own router or the two general ones in the building. Then it will work for a few hours before becoming unusable again. I have also tried plugging my computer directly into the internet jack, but I get the same result. Resetting the router multiple times does not improve the situation. I have been assured by the building manager that the system has had no problems and everyone else in the building can connect. When this problem occurs, my network and sharing system shows that my computer is connected to the router but that the router is not connected to the internet. I have also tried a system restore to a month ago, before this problem arose, but nothing changed.

I have an HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC, running Windows 7 home premium.

Any ideas? All help will be greatly appreciated.

She hasn't used this laptop for a while and it won't connect to the internet through her cable modem. I know it isn't a modem or ISP problem since my laptop will connect just fine. By the way, we are connecting to the cable modem with a cat 5. Any advice on where to start to help her would be greatly appreciated.

My laptop just stopped connecting to the internet. It was after a botched uninstall attempt of zonealarm. The programme failed to uninstall properly, I got tired of waiting and tried to restart the laptop. This did not work so I switched it off rather stupidly, and then when I restarted, I successfully uninstalled zonealarm. After prompting me to restart(which I did), the computer stopped connecting to the internet. The problem being that in the taskbar, the wireless connection has a red cross and says that it is not connected. However when I open the connection box to connect to a network, it says I am connected. Firefox nor internet explorer work! I checked in device manager under network adapters and the 6TO4 adapter is has the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark. Opening up properties, it says 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)' under device status.

The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just a long shot here, but this worked for me.......and i have no idea why.
look at the phone number ....is it in two boxes?.....eg:the code in one box and the number in the other?
if so put all the digits in the one box(with no gaps)usually the right hand one.
hope it works
