Solved: Playing m4a files on media player 11?

Q: Solved: Playing m4a files on media player 11?

I cannot seem to find any codec other than 3vix to play these m4a files. That was fine until the demo ran out. Is there a free codec or am I forced to buy a codec (just seems principly wrong). Or maybe some kind of converter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there guys, I am having a real problem with my Windows Media Player 11 playing .avi files.

My digital camera records videos and they have played on my machine with WMP no problem at all until yesterday. When I click on the file to play it it says "Window Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assitance, click Web Help."

I have had had a good around and I can't resolve this problem. The problem seems to have occured since I installed DivX Player, Codec etc.. (the installer package). Since then I have tried uninstalling it to go back to how it was and also tried doing a system restore to the point before but still the same problem.

Don't know what to do but this problem also effect Windows movie maker, it won't player the avi files in there either, please help.

A:[SOLVED] .avi files not playing in Windwos Media Player on Vista after DivX installed

Hi ellisd5, as far as i'm aware Divx is not Vista compatible but don't quote me on that. Best thing I can suggest is to download and install the latest stable release of K-Lite codec pack as that may restore normal functionality to your avi files (be sure to remove any currently installed codec packs first though).

Hope that helps

Hi All,
I have just bought a new machine with Vista Home Premium and it is running great but is not playing video files. I can hear the audio but no video. This happens regardless of whether it is playing inmedia player, or I am creating a DVD in pre installed movie maker or DVD Maker.

Is it just a codec pack or driver files it might be missing... or some other nasty?

Thanks in advance.... Beagleboy.

A:Playing DVD and AVI files in Media Player

You could be missing a CODEC, what type of file is it? This utility can tell you: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

There's also a chance that the video card driver needs to be updated, there's lots of little glitches with display drivers at the moment.

I've not long had Vista (Home Premium) and the windows media player that came with it used to play the .ts files that I'd exported from my digibox hard drive. Then - for apparently no reason - Media Player decided that it was no longer going to open the files, not even the ones that it had opened previously. It came up with the cood1199 error, but I don't understand why it's stopped playing them as it used to. It's infuriating. I don't want to have to download another program to play them when Media Player should - as it *did* - play them. Is there anything that I can do to get it to play what it used to play?

Have you tried a system restore back to when you know this worked or is this to far in the past? Have you tried to play the files with something like Realplayer. I know that you want to use WMP long term but this would confirm that it is a WMP issue.

Hello,

I have a memory card camcorder that records video as .ASF files (MPEG4 I think too) and until now have had no problem playing back the video files that I have recorded.

I've recently had to do a full system wipe of my computer due to various issues. Now I have a bang up to date version of Windows Media Player 10 as well as all the codecs packs. However the .ASF videos just won't play properly, the videos stop and start every second with huge gaps in between each frame. Windows Media Player also crashes with playing these files, I tried RealPlayer which also delivers exactly the same results.

I'm totally stuck with what to do,

Thanks for any help you will be able to give me in advance,

Martin

A:Trouble playing ASF files and Windows Media Player

Sounds like it might be a codec problem. Do a google search for a program called gspot (you can guess why I won't do one at work -.-;; ) It opens a file and reads what codec's its trying to use. Giving that output about the audio and video codec would let us know what those files are using in particular and can hunt down a way to fix it.

you can roll it back to wmp9 in add/remove-windows componets and delete the wmp10 install file. then redownload it. but you may have some conflict or it could be just a bad file. i like 9 better then 10 anyway.

My uncle got DSL a couple of months ago and I've downloaded several large and small video clips and saved them to cd-rw's so that I could bring them home and put them on my computer, but I've encountered a problem when I try to view some of the clips. Some clips say ANOBOLIC when I try to open them and they won't play on either my laptop or my desktop pc, but I can open and view them fine on my uncle's computer. What do I need to download to fix this problem?

The other problem that I am having is that I saved some video clips that range from 15 to 30 minutes, and when I put the cd in either my laptop or desktop pc a couple of the clips say that they are 1 or 2 minutes when they are really 15 to 30 minute clips. I try to play them and they play for 1 or 2 minutes pause at the end and then move to the next clip, and when I fast forward the clip I am able to see some more of what wasn't shown in the first 1 or 2 minutes but it won't finish playing the whole clip. Again, I am able to view all of the clips perfectly on my uncle's computer.

At first I thought that the problem was with the cd-rw's, but since they work fine on my uncle's computer I have to believe that it is a problem with the media player. I've tried playing them with Realplayer and a couple other media players, but I keep having the same problem. Hello there and apologies if it has been posted before (though I couldn't find it anywhere). I have two PCs running Windows Vista Business 32-bit since the RTM version. In other words they have survived long enough to download updates via Windows Updates, install both Service Packs etc.For some time now I experience the 10 - 25 second delay when playing a MP3 file in WMP. This delay appears to happen only once per Windows boot. Now, this does sound odd so I've tried to troubleshoot myself. When playing an MP3 file WMP launches mfpmp.exe file and this is how it's meant to be even though the files aren't DRM protected. Using Process Monitor I've found that before the process launches wmplayer.exe "pokes around" %systemroot%\system32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} folder. By "poking around" I mean querying file information (among other things) on most if not on every file. This introduces the delay during startup of playback as there are about 1400 *.cat files around. It can be clearly seen in Process Monitor summary that it takes even 25 seconds (depending on other hard disk activity) to "get through" the folder. It appears that the module responsible for file activity is CI.dll (code integrity). I would speculate that verifying the signatures (or whatever it's doing at this point) is a prerequisite to the launch of mfpmp.exe which plays the MP3 file. However WMP is checking the *.cat files that doesn't appear to be relevant to medi... Read more

When I try to play my music files (originally downloaded from purchased CD's on my old computer) on this new computer through Windows Media Player the sound is stuttering. Randomly. My IT dept. can't figure it out. I was running WMP v. 9 and today I updated to v. 11. It doesn't matter. Still stuttering. I have little Bose desktop speakers. When I go into the control panel on my computer and click on the "sounds and audio devices" icon it says SoundMax HD Audio. I'm assuming that's the sound card? The music files are local on my hard drive. It's driving me crazy....and I'm not a sophisticated computer user. Help. Thank you.

ok (as you my know by know i rarther hate windows media player)

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

I think this is a problem since I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 but can't be sure. Basically if I put a music CD into my laptop drive, Windows Media player 12 not only doesn't automatically play it but when I open Windows Media no CD is recognised in the drive. But if I click on Windows Explorer the songs are shown (although won't play with WM). But they play with RealPlayer. This is clearly a WM problem then... all other CD/DVD functions are working, just not WM.

I followed the instructions below (from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116#nextsteps) and deleted two files from the registry as instructed but this made no difference. I also have run the Device Manager Troubleshooter for the drive and that didn't work. Also I tried Microsoft's Mr Fix it but that didn't either. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

Hi,

I was updating my codecs with the latest CCCP software I downloaded. I saw that it included Media Player Classic Home Cinema v. 1.5.3 included. I remembered how well it played videos on my XP so decided to include it to be installed on Vista. Everything installed properly. I tried to play a mp4 and a mkv video with it. The file name shows and the timer displays 00:00/24:07 so I know that it at least loaded with both. However, neither one played at all, stays stuck at stop. At first, I thought it was the codecs not being used. Both played on VLC, Zoomplayer, Windows Media, and quicktime so it wasn't that. Then I figured that its probably the settings and decided to look. Unfortunately, I forgot how to get it set up and its been a while since I've tinkered with filters. Everything is still set from default and I included the pictures here (filters = 1st view and 2nd view; CCCP = cccp filter and cccp filter 2). Also included MediaInfo, showing the video I played on several other players. Let me know if you need any more info.

When I try to play songs that I got through musicmatch (now yahoo! music jukebox) it says:

I could play them o.k. in the old WMP because musicmatch was one of the online stores. musicmatch is no longer one of the online stores in the new WMP 11.

Any suggestions on how to play the musicmatch songs in WMP 11? I like to use WMP 11 to listen to songs and sync them to my iRiver.

Looking forward to your suggestions,

My experience level on this sort of thing is minimal, but I have tried removing media services (media player), rebooting, and re-installing with no success. FYI I just switched from Kaspersky to Avast, which I'm assuming should have nothing to do with my problem.

Could someone please assist?

I'm not sure if this belongs in the xp forum or in the driver forum...

When I try to play a music file, Media player is coming up with this message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

The Microsoft web help says that the error message code is C00D11BA.
When I go into more options under the sync tab in media player, as the site suggests, and click on "speakers", the only choice for audio device is "default directsound device". After searching in add remove programs, I can't find any audio device or driver. The sound was working fine until I was deleted some programs which I don't use anymore...I could have deleted the driver by mistake. I have an acer aspire 3000...any suggestions on what to do?

A:[SOLVED] media player not able to play sound files

Hi zoerella and welcome to TSF !

Does the sound work in your other programs ? Try the games like spider solitaire (press F5 and check that use sound is enabled) or pinball for instance.

Go to the device manager : start => run => devmgmt.msc. Tell us if there's some flag (yellow warning sign or red cross) in front of one of the devices there.

What's the exact model of your aspire 3000 (3050, 3027xy, ... or just 3000 ?) ? It seems that some laptops in the aspire 3000 serie uses a Crystal 423x sound device while others use a Realtek AC'97 sound device. Please use everest from the "posting system specs" link in my sig to find what's the model of your audio device.

If it's crystal 423x :
http://www.cirrus.com/en/software/dr...dio/Ps0192.zip
You'll have to unzip the files to some folder and install the drivers manually from the device manager

If it's Realtek :
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...3000_5000.html
select audio in the first list. Download and unzip the package and run setup.exe.

Hi. I am not able to play any audio or video files in my Windows Media Player or in my Real Player. I may have installed some codecs that may have caused this - but I do not know, as the codecs were installed 2 weeks ago, and I have used these media players since then.

What would you suggest I do?

Thanks for your help.

I'm unfortunately somewhat computer illiterate, so bear with me as I try to break down the issue I'm encountering.

I use an online database called Verint Impact 360 to gather audio files from a company's call center. I have the Verint codecs (VerintCodecs.exe) installed on my Windows PC which allow me to play the audio files using Windows Media Player. However, when I try to open the files using a customized program designed by my company, I'm unable to play the calls.

We had an IT member that found a way to convert the calls into a usable format with OpenOffice Spreadsheet by renaming the files. Unfortunately, he's since left the company, and I was unable to determine how he was able to convert the calls.

So, I guess my question is: Is there some way to embed the codec into the call file so that it could be played on other platforms?

Summary: -The calls are in .wav format -I have installed on the computer VerintCodecs.exe -I can only play the audio files in Windows Media Player (I've tried on the customized program and VLC, neither of which work)

I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me some guidance.

A:Solved: Playing audio files that require a codec in programs other than Windows Media

If VLC will not play the files, then they are not the usual format of a .wav file
However, playing WAV files on VLC is rather effortless. That’s because VLC comes equipped with the digital programming that instructs it how to handle data sent via the WAV format. Here’s a step-by-step procedure for playing WAV files on the VLC.
1) After you have downloaded and installed the VLC player, open the VLC media player.
2) The VLC media player will display on your screen. On the menu bar, click on “Media.”
3) A drop-down window appears. Click on “Open File” and navigate to the location of the WAV file.
4) Click on the file in the “Select one or more files to open” window or once you are in the folder that the file is located in, type the name of the file in the “File name” window.
5) Click on the “Open” button. The file will load and the VLC media player will begin playing it automatically.

WMP is on my PC but for some reason it will not show the image part of an mpeg. It does play the audio, but just shows those wacky visualizations instead of the moving image that is part of the file.

I've tried this numerous times always with the same results. Any suggestions? It's WMP v.10.00.00.3646.

Might a virus, or some scumware, be screwing things up?

Thanks.
