After Windows Update (automatic) Red Message "Invalid Signature detected. Check Policy in Setup"

Q: After Windows Update (automatic) Red Message "Invalid Signature detected. Check Policy in Setup"

Hello
I really need help.
Yesterday evening windows retarted my laptop, telling me it found a new update. I vened had no choice, it just restarted.

Last windows version was fall creator update. Now i don't know the one it just installed.
Since nothing happened except the littles dots moving sometimes, I let it work over night, thinking that in the morning it would have installed the update.
But this morning I found only a black screen, and after reboot this red message.
It seems it is not finding the disk boot sector.
Any Idea? Panik...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I disabled secure boot option,
But no boot device found.
Is there a way to uninstall the last windows update, without being able to boot the computer?

Hi,
We work on a domain that uses Symantec Management console to administrate our patch enviroment. We have windows updates disabled. But our Windows 8 machines get this message once a month

"Windows update hasn't been able to check for updates for the last 30 days"

Just wondering if anyone knows which GPO to use to disable this setting as I have been unable to find it.
Thanks

A:How to disable the windows update message "Windows update hasn't been able to check for updates for the last 30 days"

Hi?
You can turn off the message by GUI in Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center, in the right pane, click "Change Action Center settings", then untick the "Windows Update" option.

For GPO, you can disable all balloon notifications:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar\Turn off all balloon notifications
Or remove Action Center icon itself
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove the Action Center icon
And I haven't found a GPO to turn on\off a specific message mentioned in the action center, but the setting for the message is related with registry key under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks
but the value under the key is binary, hard to control, if you have interest, you can export the key from a preference pc, then deploy the GPO via
User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

Windows Update error code 80070490 appeared on 20 September 2013 and message "Windows can't check for updates". I use Windows Vista Home basic 32 bit, Service Pack 2. I tried almost all suggestions in Internet (including these on Microsoft Web-page) about this how to fix this problem, including Microsoft Fix It, System Update Readiness Tool, Windows Update Diagnostics DIAGCAB file and etc., but the message continue to appear. The last successful update was on 13.09.2013. All updates made before and on 13 September are written as "successful" in "Update history" folder, but when I open "Installed Updates" folder, I don't see nothing and there is written "No updates are installed on this computer", which is strange, because by this moment Windows Update was made automatically without any problems. So I have this weird thing happening in my relatively fresh install of Windows 10.
Whenever I search for "Check for Updates" or "Windows Update settings" on the search box of the start menu, I get the results that I want but if I press enter or try to click on those results nothing happens.. As far as I know I can click all others search results but those, and maybe others related to windows update.

I can still get updates by going to Settings>Update & Security though.

In my other computers this works fine, and as far as I can tell all the updates are done.
From what I've searched around other people seemed to have a similar issue where they couldn't acess the settings at all which isn't my case. Still I tried the sfc/ scannow that a lot of users seemed to recommend but no results.

.............. Still I tried the sfc/ scannow that a lot of users seemed to recommend but no results. .....................

Please clarify what did you mean by "no results".

When sfc /scannow is completed, it will give you one of the following 3 reports....................(paraphrasing)

1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupted files and repair is successful.
3. Found corrupted files but unable to repair some of them.

Which one of the above is applicable to you ?

I picked up a computer off craiglist was thoroughly enjoying my gtx geforce 680 ( https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/sys/6239989909.html ) when it "crashed" about 6 hours after purchase. When I rebooted I received the "no hard disk detected" message. Upon launching bios setup the hard drive is listed with details as being attached to its corresponding sata port. I am trying to determine if my hard drive is broken or if it needs remounting or some other sort of procedure.

The hard drive is a slightly dated WD Carver 1 TB SATA internal drive interacting with an asus motherboard. I did notice the boot order for drives had been rearranged putting an external and an optical disk drive in position 1 and 2 for boot directories. I disabled both the external and optical disc and selected the WD sata drive as the first preference for booting. Still I am getting the same error. I read somewhere that if the bios is recognized in setup but is still not recognized for booting that I may need to run a 32bit diagnostic. The forum I saw the diagnostic post mentioned on was in reference to a dell machine. I don't really know what this is or if it exists on my ASUS mother board.

In short: how can I tell If my hard drive needs replacement?

Did this 3 times in 2 days, then the Invalid Gadget Package notice started popping up and is continuing to do so. I cannot open or use most of my features now without this same message. Every time I try to schedule a boot scan I get the same error message ("Invalid Gadget Package"). I can't open the Control Panel either. Same thing. Hello all. New member here. Having a difficult issue that is really driving me crazy. It started all of a sudden the other day ...

OS: XP SP2

Issues:

1) Unable to install any new programs. I receive the following error message: "The temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on Temp folder."

2) Unable to download files from Mozilla Firefox IF I click a link directly. I get this error message: "C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\(filename I'm trying to download) could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again or try saving in a different place".

However, if I download it by right-clicking and "save link as", the file WILL download.

3) I cannot access the Temp folder in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings. If I try to open this in window explorer (or ms-dos), the following error message pops up: "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp is not accessible. Access denied"

4) Ad-aware freezes on "quarentining selection".

I have full administrator access on this computer (laptop) and I am the only one with admin access. I share this computer with my girlfriend, who has Guest access, and I am concerned that her web surfing may have invited in a nasty virus.

AVG anti-virus and Spybot scans have turned up empty. I downloaded HiJackThis, hop... Read more

And just as a side question, what programs (assuming I can get this fixed!) do you recommend for general anti-virus/spyware/malware protection? I currently have AVG anti-virus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot. Thanks!

I am having some technical issues with installing Ninco Trackmap Plus (a slotcar program). Both Microsoft Windows XP and Vista gives me an error message (?The handle is invalid?) when I want to run the setup.exe file. On some PC?s it installs fine and on other it just would not work even though the PC's have the same specs. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Hi
i would suggest first checking with the program vendors for any known issues on install the machines this has worked on is the key you say they are both the same but do they both have the same service packas installed antivirus programs malware detection software firewall setup ms updates usually 2 machines can be indentical in hardware spec but very rarely are they also identical in software or updates.

I have this X53U Asus laptop running win7 home premium x64. I have a problem when I reboot the laptop after installing the windows updates. Everything is fine, the "configuring windows update.. 30%" message is fine.. but right after the shutting down message is done, the laptop goes into a "fans still spinning, power button light is lit, but nothing on screen" phase. To get out of that phase i have to force it to shut down, holding the power button. When i boot up after that, the windows updates are successful.

Did this happened to someone here?

I'll provide infos on demand.

Thanks!

I've seen this posted before but haven't found an answer yet so thanks for the help. Windows update is blocked with and oops message, can't load panda or avg, mcafee is out of date and won't update. Spybot loaded and run...tagged a few but the symptoms are the same after the scan and fix. Can't even get on microsoft.com with IE or firefox.

I can peck the keys a little but I am not an expert so please help. Machine is new to me but used so what I know so far is IE6 , XP SP2, latest windows update unknown date.

If it's viral, can I load an update antivirus to disc and plug it in that way. I have access to internet via other computers in the house.

Thanks for the help.

On an isolated (non networked) Win7 ProSp1 x64 machine, I have been installing all updates/hotfixes ect... MS15-004 has 3 associated KBs. 2 of 3 installed: "MS15-004: Windows
7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 (with Remote Desktop Client 8.0 installed)(3020387)" and "Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 (with
Remote Desktop Client 8.1 installed)(3020388)" Installed eventhough after the fact I see I have RDP (mstsc.exe) file version 6.3.9600.16415. I can't get the 3rd item to load:  "

Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1(3019978)". There is no stated version of software required. I've checked all the following patches to see if there is a 'supeseded' patch but do not have any. When loading, it responds with
"The update is not applicable to your computer". I need to verify and document why it is not applicable, if that is true, and maybe instal the workaround as stated in the security bulletin: MS15-004:

I can put a new movie in the dvd r/w in my laptop and it plays fine. I have an external dvd d/w that is older but works fine. It show up on my "device manager" and when I look at the properties check for updated drivers it says it is working and has the latest drivers. I can see content on cd's and dvd's that arn't new movies. What's up.

I finally managed to get my laptop running on Windows 10. All was fine. But then the Windows Upgrade assistant informed me that I'm on an outdated version of Windows 10 and that I should update. Apparently it is pretty massive, so it's treated like an "upgrade".

Well... after 45 minutes of all this "progress" and work, the process simply FAILED. Windows was successful at "restoring the previous version." OK... but... after this, NO INDICATION of what went wrong. Launching the Windows Assistant for updating is all enthusiastic about helping me "update to the latest and most secure version of Windows 10"... with nary a clue that the previous attempt failed.

I'm AGHAST at how incompetent Microsoft has become. This is the absolutely most terrible O/S upgrade experience I've ever had, going from 8.1 to 10 and now 10+. It's atrocious to see so many "hoops" that need to be leaped through without Microsoft taking the initiative to make this process an efficient and productive one. I absolutely CANNOT IMAGINE how anyone who is a novice or with "general" Windows experience could manage this, without resorting to hundreds of dollars in support fees. It's disgusting.

Nevertheless... painful as it is, I'm on Windows 10 and would like to be "more secure" with the latest. Any clue as to what I can do to find out what CHOKED Microsoft on this and how to get over it?
