Every 30 seconds to 2minutes, vista refreshes its network connection, this can cause lag in games such as WOW and other demanding applications that run off the internet. Some games have been
reported to even crash because of it, making some almost unplayable. But there are programs to change that safely and easily, and it will make everything internet wise, run smoother.

Both of these programs will fix that...and give you faster Online Games:
(only 1 is required...although i do recommend the first one)
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The all mighty Vista Anti-lag:
http://www.codecase.de/en/downloads/folder/2-vista-anti-lag
(2 downloads, rar and exe available):

Features:
- Removing 'Lag Spikes' \ 'Lag Peaks'
- No dropouts with Skpye & VoiceOverIP
- Download stuff at full speed without any hassle.
- Less Lag in games and applications on Windows Vista
- Best thing is, its FREE!
Simply select your wireless card if not already selected, click activate VAL, and bye bye lag spikes.

Here is an Example of what this program does
While VAL is inactive, this is your general internet connection
But while activated, this is the result.
No spikes... and no more lagging because of them

Alternative program

And this program does the same thing, just more Automatic and might or might not work with your card.

Wlan Optimizer:
http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/downloads.php

This program automatically syncs itself with your wireless card and activates whenever a connection is available.

Without the optimizer

With the Optimizer:

These programs can be used in conjunction or separately...whatever they both do the same thing.......

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, thank you for taking the time to help me out with this problem.

A few days ago my internet started really acting up. Not the connection to the router, the speed would slow dramatically at random points and then come back up to normal speed.

I could deal with this except for the fact that I run youtube.com/grimandjakegames, a gaming YouTube channel. This problem has made me unable to play any online games without the internet connection failing. It will run fine for a while but then all of the sudden it just stops and then I'm disconnected from the server.

I've contacted my ISP but they don't seem to know anything and just had me reset my modem which did nothing.

The reason I am so confused is because nothing changed from when the internet was working fine to when it wasn't. This lead me to believe it was the ISP's problem but maybe some of you could help.

If you need any more info just reply below and I will try to help you out as best I can.

Thanks,
Hicoga

We have adsl in our house, and it was working 100% perfect last week when I still had XP on my machine. Pages would load in 2 seconds, and everything was good.

INstalled Vista Saturday, and now it take pages almost 5 min to load! Most of the time they won't load at all, and just give me a "page cannot be displayed" message. Sometimes I have to hit the refresh button 5 times for the page to finally fully load up, with each time hitting it, the page loading more and more.

And once in a great while it works like it used to. Usually it does that when I first start up the comp. Also a lot of the time it goes through the loading bar at the bottom, and then it will say done in the lower left corner, except the page will be completly blank!

Hello, my first post here.

So, 10 days ago, my ISP has upgraded my phone line to ADSL2+ standard and sent me a Thomson SpeedTouch510v6 router. My max speed would apparently be 16 megabits/sec, but for the past 10 days I've been testing it on speedtest.net with my main deskopt (Vista), it's always been 1.5 megabits/s.

Today, I have plugged the same router (same network cable as well) into an old laptop that's running XP, and tried speedtest - 13 (thirteen!) megabits/s!!! Plug it back into the Vista PC - 1.5 megabits again!

Since then I've been poking around with Local Area Connection on my main PC (Vista), I have uninstalled Comodo Firewall, Avira AntiVirus, anything that could have theoretically impaired the speed. No luck.

My NIC is Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller. Configuration is:

Is there anything I can try here to experiment? Why would speed on Vista be so impaired? I have switched off Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, there are no active process on start-up except MSN Messenger.

Whenever I test it, the speed is *very adamantly* 1.5 megabits, as if it something limits it to that. What could it possibly be?

A:Internet (network?) speed only 1.5 megabits on Vista, but 13 on XP!

If you look at the protocols that are bound to your adapter you have many a few that are superfluous.
Untick HomeQOS Driver
Untick IPVv6

Reboot, see if that improves things. The QoS (quality of service) may be reserving bandwidth for some other service like telephony or VOIP.

Funny thing is I can still check my email without a problem. I check my IP address and it is correct. I am also unable to access my router and DSL modem. Hello,

I have three laptops connected to the wireless network. One with xp, one with Vista Home and the third with Vista Business. All with DHCP enabled. All connected to the same network.

All three laptops were able to connect to the wireless connection a few weeks ago. Now the laptop Vista Business can not access internet. I see the network, but it goes to "Identifying" stage and ends up having local access only with the message "Unidentified network". I doubt anything was changed on the network side, so I'm blaming the laptop itself. I tried the following things:
From this thread

Code:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

and I also have reset the winsock and ip stacks, something along the following lines (I forgot exactly what were the commands)

Code:

netsh winsock reset global
netsh int ipv4 reset global
netsh int ipv6 reset global

It did not change anything.

Wirless adapter for the computer in question has description "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection". I do not have access to the wireless router.

The question is how can I make Vista Business work with the wireless network again?

I did have similar problems in other places, when I can see networks but get local access only, while other laptops with XP running on them can connect without problems.

Thanks.

I have 2 computers in my house ones my dad's and the other is obviously mine. Um I've come across a problem with networking them so that my friend and I can play NFSU2 over the network. There's one small problem however they can't "see" each other. I can get AOE2-3, Rise of Nations, and one other game I can't remember right now work direct ip and with AOE3 game scanning similar to what NFSU2 uses and work just fine. Question is why won't it work for this game?

I've seen posts regarding similar problems with this game but nothing I extracted from them for this problem worked.

So can any one help as you can see from my computer specs I'm dual-booting Windows 7 RC currently. I haven't tried it from this OS yet.

My dad's PC has got Norton Antivirus 2009 which among my friends is the ultimate sacrilege to the computer industry. They call it bloatware and admittedly the computer takes a while to boot; but there are other factors involved with that. I think that's pretty much it besides AVG free and PC user firewall on my XP machine. Any suggestions?

Oh, I disabled all of these and it still didn't work even after configuring windows firewall through the warning pop ups you get when a program does something for the first time.

I've been told before that download speed is independent of how fast your Internet connection is. Is that true?

A:Download Speed v. Internet Connection Speed

Short answer = no. But on the other hand yes. Depends on how you mean the question.

Internet connection speed is defined by download speed and upload speed.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

It's probably an issue of semantics, i.e. what they meant when they said "download". Your "download speed" is dependent on how fast your ISP's download speed, but also how fast the downloading server us uploading the data, be it a file or a web page, or whatever. You can't get something faster than someone is sending it to you, however you can get it slower.

I recently upgraded my laptop (Acer Aspire 5738ZG) from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything works fine except that my Wireless connection Speed has dropped from 300Mbps to 150Mbps. As far as I can tell, I have lost one of the two bands. My router is a DIR-655 D-Link and the wireless network adapter is an Atheros AR5B91. I have updated the driver on the atheros adapter, and am using the newest firmware for the router. I realize that the speeds were probably never 300Mpbs (and that this transfer rate is way over the capacity I use) but I nevertheless must have lost half my capacity and I would dearly like to recapture it. I am using the same router specifications as before: mixed n/g/b auto 20/40mhz. If anyone can help me reactivate my second band, I would really appreciate it. Thanx!

I work on a network of a few hundred computers connected with a myriad of switches, hubs and servers. Our connections range from 10Mb/s to 1Gb/s. Is there any way I can create a report of all the connected computers on the subnet and how fast each is connected?

Ideally it would say something like:
(Computer Name) 100Mb/s
(Computer Name) 10Mb/s
... ...

Basically, I'm trying to figure out which computers are still on slower connection so we remove/replace hubs and increase network speed.

Any software solution would be great. We're running an Active Directory Setup and also have Desktop Authority.

A:Is there a way to detect network connection speed?

Probably some sort of network survey application. I've never had the need, so I don't have any specific recommendations.

Hi,

Might be worth ensuring that nobody else is logging into your wireless network.

Mine used to also be slow at times until I locked the connection to the MAC addresses of my worksations

Maybe download a bandwidth monitor to see what is happening, something like du-meter.

Of course, it may just be a coincidence as wireless signals can fluxuate.

Since I got proper wired ADSL I am having several problems when connecting, surfing and downloading from the internet. What the causes might be I don?t know but I?ve listed them below:

1) When I click my Firefox icons, be that on the desktop or on Rocketdock, it can take up to 30 seconds or so to physically open a page. I?m talking just a page itself, not content.

2) If I have just turned the computer on then the page loads pretty quick, that?s a webpage not a physical page. However, the longer I?m on the internet the slower the page load times seem to get.

3) This also manifests itself in downloads. When the computer is first turned on downloads are working fine, however, as time goes on, most downloads dwindle to nothing or all are not downloading.

4) When I click the Internet Explorer icon(desktop or Rocketdock), it opens on my homepage but if I enter an address the address opens in a new Firefox webpage while the IE page stays on my homepage!

Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Speed

We recently had Verizon HiSpeed (speeds up to 768 Kbps) installed with Westell(Model 327W) modem/router connected to our desktop.
When we place cursor over the "Network" connection in lower right of screen (of desktoop) it states:
The Internet (2)
Spreed 10.0 Mbps
Sent 141,926 bytes
Received 921,712 bytes

However, in the laptop, when we place the cursor over the "Network" connection, we see:
Speed 36Mbps
Signal Strength Excellent
Status Connected.

What we would like to know is why does our desktop show SPEED of "10.0 Mbps"

while the laptop shows:
SPEED of "36.0 Mbps?"
(Connection speed on both shows: download 705 kbps; upload 133 kbps.)

Is this something to be very worried/concerned about? We are senior citizens and the speed when we connect to Internet appears to be fine as far as we are concerned.
Thanks

I found this little program useful in “optimizing” my connection speed for my PC. You must set your PC and this program does it. It works with ANY version of windows. I used it for my XP and I’m now using it for Vista. You might as well get the connection speed you are paying for as far as “high speed internet service” goes. Here is the link for the TCP Optimizer:

BEFORE you run the TCP Optimizer program try this speed test FIRST. Then run it AFTER you run the Optimizer (SpeakEasy Flash will not load with Vista 64 bit so use your 32 bit I.E.) SpeakEasy Speed Test:

That was interesting. I must have a very honest and good ISP. The program actually slowed down my upload and download speeds. I must say that I have played with some of the settings over the past few months.

Hello all,

I have a very simple question. With Windows XP and Windows 2000, I am able to mouse over the small connection icon in the system tray, and a little box pops up telling me, the network that I'm connected to, the signal strength, and the connection speed. With Windows Vista, I get everything but the connection speed, which I find particularly annoying, especially when I'm working with wireless devices, and trying to see if they are indeed connecting at the correct speed. Why does Microsoft continually remove useful functions replacing them with annoying nonsense? How do I find out the connection speed, or has that become a guarded secret for Windows Vista and above.

Thanks,
Jim.

Hi -

Left-click 1x on the network icon. A list of wifi signals should appear. RIGHT-click on your network, select "status"

I've been having this problem for awhile now. I open programs such as Itunes, Bit torrent, even DVD's with internet extra's and they all pop up with check to see if you are connected to the internet. My internet is working fine. I can Google up a storm no problem. I have Windows Firewall on however all of these programs are allowed thru so it's not that. I have no Proxy settings in Firefox. Any ideas? Please?

Hello, if it were me seeing that on my computer , I would update and run full scan of Malwarebytes Antimalware, and also SuperAntiSpyware , and see if I had any spyware or malware , I would also run my Anti Virus program. You can get Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware free.

this occures when there is no response to the DHCP request.

First, disable the WiFi, cable a connection to the router and retry; what's the result?

While connected to the router, config it for the:
router address and DHCP range
wifi SSID, Channel
set a new admin password and save the settings.

Disable the wired interface, enable the WiFi and retry the WiFi connection

My friend and I are trying to connect two Vista x64 laptops together to play CNC3. We can see each other in the lobby but cannot see the game when one of us tries to create one. We see the other disappear, but no game ever appears.
Firewall is off.
Connected via crossover cable.
Manually set ip.
Both have disc.
Set up wireless adhoc also,

Simply cannot see the game that the other person is hosting.

Please someone help. This should be simple!!!

A:Network CNC3 vista to vista can't join games.

Ok, nevermind. Found out that he needed the patch. That should have been obvious. I wasn't thinking anything of it because I needed the patch to even play and he was playing without it. Slipped my mind.

Just recently added a full T1 connection to my network. I am testing it before adding on all workstations. Have used Toast.net to check my speed. Have been getting speeds of between 650 and 920 Kbps for both text and images. Get the same speeds either through our proxy or from a server going directly to the connection (through a PIX firewall).

Why am I so far away from 1.544? Could it be that the T1 is ATM, and we are ethernet? I would assume that the VLAN switch which is connected between the router and the line provides protocol translation. Does anyone have any info or thoughts? Was told that this is it. But I am concerned that with 400 workstations connected we may be disappointed. Thanks.

A:Internet connection speed

Try MSN.com and type Speed test. look for bandwith speed test. That is beter then toast.net. Dont forget sometimes the net is really busy, and sometimes its not. I would also call your ISP and complane.

I was watching Netflix on my PS3 and I had the details about what quality was streaming up on screen. When I watch Netflix on it I get 1080p SuperHD. Lovely, I like that. But when I watch it on my iMac(mid2011 21.5") I don't get HD content hardly at all. They're both connected wirelessly and they're both sitting next to each other (the PS3 is actually about a foot further away from the router)

I was just wondering, why is the PS3 so much faster?

I realise this is something i should be takeing up with my ISP but i've recently upgraded my connection speed to 10mb although i really seem to have little difference than when i only had 1mb. My ISP just tell me though that my connection is fine and it's just to do with the servers but surely this can't be right. I've tried dowloading so much stuff that i niether need nor want to test the connection but i'm still getting same speeds. can anyone shed any light on whats going on? I live in the UK by the way. Thanks a million.

I hope this is the correct forum for this question.
I am investigating changing my internet connection from Comcast broadband to Century Link DSL at 12bmps. When I check my current download speed from the many internet choices I get vastly different speeds from each of them. How do I get my real speed.
Thank you

A:internet connection speed

There is no "real" speed. What you are buying is connection POTENTIAL, but nothing is guaranteed. Without getting deep into the weeds on networking, suffice it to say that your connection will only be as fast as the slowest link in the chain between you and the content you're after. Even better, is that often times buried somewhere in the fine print is that they only guarantee that connection speed to the local network hub or maybe local switching station.

So it doesn't matter if you have one of those drool-worthy 100Mbps connections you can get in South Korea, it won't make a bit of difference if you're trying to download a file off a computer with a 14.4K modem.

Those Internet speed testing sites are basically more to make people feel good rather than serve an actual purpose.

We have 2 desktops and 1 laptop. I have cox for my ISP and not sure what the speed is, 15 Mpbs? I just got a new desktop, so its 2 desktop and 1 laptop, What effects does this have on my connection? I play games online does it make my dl's and game slowers/ laggers?

A:Internet Connection Speed.

well the only affect itl have on playing games is when all of the computers are on at the same time...i assume the computer that you are gaming on is cabled up to the router? and the others are wireless? if that is the case then ul have the lions share of the band width when the other computers are either connected or not...so u shud be fine...

Hi,

I work for an apartment rental company. A guest needs high speed internet, so that he can achieve 30 mbps download speed.

What is the minimum internet connection that we need for him to be able to achieve this?

Thanks!

A:Necessary Internet Connection Speed?

It is very abnormal for a guest to request that kind of speed.. For what? Is he going to run a hosting business from the apartment? lol - Users that ask for that kind of speed = Red flag. Not needed for typical web surfin.
