Preferred Solution: Window 7 product key question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Window 7 product key question

Well I guess one product key is valid for only one computer. That's what I know.

I have Dell Inspiron 1564 and it comes with window 7 home Premium installed on it, latter I installed window 10(pirated version) on it. Initially it works well, I d id not noticed any kind of issue. But after some time, laptops fan making unnecessary rotations and making noise, and heating. I do not use any kind of heavy software on it. I browse the internet on Chrome and sometime on Mozila Firefox. But the laptop behave like i'm running very intense software on it. Even, when it is in ideal condition it's fan start with very high speed making the nose like hairdryer.
As it comes with OEM drive , I have installed window 7 Home Premium again to get the product key so that i can reinstall window 10 with product key. But when i checked OEM drive it completely empty.
I have tried "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" commend to get the key but did not get the keys. I posting the supporting images, help me out.

A:How to get the window product key from OEM.

Hi, and welcome to TSG.

The product key should be on the holographic Windows 7 Certificate Of Authenticity sticker attached to the outside of the computer. On laptops, this sticker may sometimes be inside the battery compartment. I have attached a photo of such a sticker used by Dell with part of the product key blanked out.

A:Window 8.1 Pro Product Key

WARYAA Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing your product key and wanted to help. With Win8x, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware on the motherboard.  You can retrieve it by following these directions:  Product Key - Find for Windows 8 However ... you have a bigger problem.  Your Win8.1 is not activating because you most likely reinstalled Win8 from an image your downloaded from the Internet or from an MS DVD -- and those images are Retail versions. Your PC came preinstalled with an HP OEM version of Win8 -- and the product key from that can only be used to activate the HP OEM version, not the Retail versions.  So basically, the version you installed will not activate unless you go out and buy a license for it. What will work is restoring your machine to its original factory condition using HP Recovery Media.  This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Upd... Read more

Hey Guys,

In 'System Information', there's a link that says 'Get more features with a new edition of windows". Clicking that brings up an 'Enter Product Key' page, and it is only at this point that I realize my product key isn't stuck to the bottom of this PC.

So, researching this on Google, I found a product key that Microsoft Released for the Trial:
NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F

So, my question is: Will my Windows 8 Product Key work with 8.1 Preview?
If so, I think I would rather dig that up than use a generic key.

If it doesn't, and I need to use this generic key, what happens at the end of the Preview when everyone has the same Product Key.

Will Windows 8 become an Operating System where you'll need to pay for the updated OS after the preview? Ie, paying for and getting a new Product Key?

And last, does anyone know what features entering a product key will actually unlock?

Thanks, Kurt

Welcome to EF BarkerBlast !

1- You can upgrade from Windows 8 without entering a product key, but for a clean install you'll always need a product key. You can enter the generic key or a key received from MSDN in case you have a subscription. Windows 8 keys do not work for a clean install.

2- At the end of the preview, if you upgraded from a valid Windows 8 install you'll be able to upgrade to RTM without a product key, but you will lose all your apps. If you installed the preview form an ISO or upgraded from a n... Read more

A:lost product key for window xp home

Sorry buenf but we can't help you with that. An OEM (preinstalled) version of XP is only meant to be used on the computer it came with, it's the downside of not having to pay the full price of a retail licence. Getting the OEM key to work on another system would be illegal. Your only solution is to buy a retail licence and use the retail product key that comes with it (if you can't activate the OEM version with a retail product key you can phone ms or reinstall from scratch with the retail CD).

I'll close this thread, please refer to the forum rules.

Hello,

I've been having a few issues with a new home-built computer (start up occurred on 11/25/2010), specifically BSOD's. Initially, the computer would crash due coming out of hibernation. This has been solved by turning off this feature, for now. In addition, a new problem cropped up yesterday. But first, a bit about the computer:

Computer background info:
-OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
-OEM version, purchased from Fry's Electronics.
-Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
-Chipset: Intel i5-760
-RAM: 8gig Corsair XMS3 1600, matched latency
-HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache
-Video Card: NVidia GTX 460 768 MB

As window's updates have been installed the BSOD occurrence has slowed down until yesterday. Here is a chronological list of what happened:

-Computer was turned on, after being turned off since 12/18 as owner was on travel.
- During the first 15 minutes, two BSOD's occurred.
- After the second BSOD, the virus software registration files had become corrupted and required re-install (Kaspersky).
- After the Kaspersky registration files had been uploaded and the computer restarted, the Windows Product ID had been lost and had to be re-entered.
- Once the ID had been re-entered and accepted, Adobe Premiere fails to open fully: it will open to the main screen, but any further commands results in a software hang and the software has to be closed. This is new and had not occurred prior to the second BSOD on 12/31. Also, Window's media viewer will freez... Read more

The right-hand side of the window states: 'This Product Key doesn't work.........etc. The bottom of the window states that it should have come with an email on purchase of the computer.

A:Reinstall Window XP- Product Activation

Dell OEM disks do not require activation.  If the SLP key is missing this means you did not use DELL OEM media OR you are trying to use XP on a system that did not come with XP.   Microsoft DOES NOT provide support for SLP activation or OEM Versions of windows.

"Microsoft feeds synchronization" errors are XP Internet explorer errors and has nothing to do with Activation."
XP is end of life End of support AND microsoft has removed the downloads for Service pack 1 and 2 and 3.

Reinstalls of XP require service packs as well as IE8 minimum.
Its probably too late to get most of the links below.

XP is no longer supported. I highly recommend you download all 4 gigs of the files below to a flash drive because later on they will no longer be available.

All of the Dell CD's I have have Dotnet 1.1 sp1 on them.  You have to install your dots in order.  CHIPSET Should be FIRST before anything else.

There will be tons of stuff to install if you don't have even with SP3

IE8 being one. DOTNET 1.1 is on the XP CD from dell.

I strongly recommend you download the files onto a flash drive because there is no telling how long these will stay.

It wont let you backtrack.

Hi,
I'm having trouble finding the windows 7 product key on Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm trying to format my drive by reinstall windows. I did install the Windows 7  that is not from OEM and now I'm planning to sell this laptop without giving away my Window 7 Installer product key, so I'm planning to reinstall windows 7 by OEM windows 7. Is it possible? Or did I just replace the Window 7 product key? Can someone help me in this case
Thank you,
Pat

A:Locating OEM Window 7 product key on Dell Studio 1558?

Depends on who the buyer is, their technical expertise and how you format the hard drive...
If you don't select format during the Windows setup there will be a Windows.old folder and the buyer can get all your old files from it.
If you just use the Windows format, the buyer can install recovery software which can get by the Windows format. It'll take a little work but it can be done.
The customer can obtain the product key if they install Belarc Advisor but that should be only for the current version of Windows installed, a determined user might be able to get the old key if you don't format and there is a Windows.old format. The old OS can be restored from the Windows.old folder for instance and BSelarc Advisor can then be used.
Your best bet is to use DBAN and completely wipe the hard drive. Only an expert in data recovery would be able to recover any data from the hard drive, it would probably be costly, time consuming and a pretty difficult job if DBAN is used. - I don't think many people would dedicate the time and resources to recover your data as statistically from a home consumer DBAN wiped system the probability of finding anything of any use to justify the time spent is probably low. For the not so through Windows format, maybe some "baddies" would have a quick look at it to see if they could find anything useful. However it is probably likely to go to a user who just want... Hi

Using Windows ADK 10 v1511, I injected the three product keys in the respective volume images of the Multiple Editions (MSDN) and Education (MSDN) isos of Windows 10 v1511.

When, however, I boot these isos, the input window of the product keys is still displayed during the first installation phase of Windows 10. Why?

How do I avoid that this window appears in order to immediately display the window that allows to choose the edition to install?

Thanks

Bye

You can't do both. You can't skip the presentation of the product key window and have it ask for which edition to install. Insert the product key for the edition you want installed in a PID.txt file:

[PID]
Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Product key goes in place of xx's obviously. Save the PID.txt file in the sources directory of the Windows 10 Install media. That will skip the product key window, but it will also define which version of Windows 10 gets installed so it will also skip the choose which version choice window as well.

First off, is it possible to deactivate Windows 7? If not, ignore the rest of this post.

If I were to deactivate Windows 7 on one PC then uninstall, THEN install and reactivate on different PC. Would it work?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm planning on building my own gaming PC to replace my existing one and I want to install Windows 7 64-bit using the 64-bit installation CD that came with my 3 PC Windows 7 Upgrade (the Family pack one).
Problem is, Windows 7 (32-bit, not 64-bit) has already been installed on 3 different computers (my desktop, my Mum's laptop and my Sister's laptop) which means the product key has already been used up to the maximum 3 uses.

I sure hope this wasn't too garbled
(signed up to these forums just to ask this)

A:Product key question

You can migrate retail family pack Win7 to whichever computers you want as long as it isn't on more than 3 computers at a time.

I have not activated family pack so don't know how migration to new hardware works exactly. On single licenses, the robocall will ask you how many machines it is installed upon and if you answer "One" it will update the hardware signature to the new install. Then if the old hardware connects to the internet again using that key it will de-activate it.

If you have any questions about this and no one here knows for certain about family pack, you can always call MS CUstomer Service to inquire.

I have a Vista Home Premium 32bit operating system that came with my computer. It had a recovery partition and prompted me to make recovery CDs at the beginning.

I did as asked, and my recovery cds turned out to be bad when I tried to use them recently, they wouldnt boot. My recovery partition also seems to be corrupted, also failing to ever boot properly.

So being that my computer is out of warranty, I cant get much in the way of customer support, and they keep trying to sell me recovery discs.

I have the product key for my vista installation on the computer. And I have a set of vista installation cds from another computer. Both Vista installations are identical, they are both Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Can I use the product key from the installation that's messed up, to reinstall Vista with the installation CDs? Are the product keys interchangeable between two installs of the same version of windows?

A:Product Key question.

Welcome,

The answer depends on what type of product key.

If the key is what is called and OEM key, those letters will appear in the number. You can only use it on one machine. Not one at at time, but only one.

If the key is not an OEM, you can use it to install on one machine at at time.

So my grandmother has a PC on 8.1. She originally had 7 and bought a 8 pro upgrade. Then she got the free 8.1 upgrade. If she got the 8.1 upgrade would that have have her a new product key? Like if she isn't on 8 anymore could I use it to upgrade my 7 to 8 since she is on 8.1?

A:Product key question

Hi 'lets'! Welcome to EightForums!

The key would still be in use on your grandmothers machine; the 8 and 8.1 key is one in the same.

I am about reinstalling Xp pro and office 2003 into the same computer I use.
It crashed.
can I use the same product key?
will it be valid?
any suggestions?
Thanks

A:product key question

As long as the product key is used for the product it came with and on the same computer it is legal. The product keys are made for the particular product, you can not use the Windows XP OS key on Office 2003 or vica-versa they are made for the particular product.

On the back of my computer there is a sticker with the Microsoft Product Key. On the Windows Experience Index Page there is an OEM product number
xxxxx-oem-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.

Will any of these numbers be required when I clean install with Windows 7 upgrade disc, in Oct?

Based upon what I know, I think that the only number that I will need is the key number of the upgrade disc.

A:Product Key Question

No, you old numbers won't be required. You will be required to have your old operating system installed and activated. Once you purchase or receive your Windows 7 disc, you will get a new product key that you will use during the new install.

Here's a break down of my situation.
At my school, they sell Windows 7 at a cheap price. Both the 32bit and 64 bit versions.
The day I bought it, the guy there told me I could use it for both my laptop and desktop. So later that day I installed it on both. A few days later, I activate it on my desktop. No problems at all. Then I tried it on my laptop. Didn't work. I searched online and have come to find out that I can only have one key per computer. Ok fair enough. I'll just go back to school and buy another.
Can't do that either. Only one per student.
So now I only have about 15 days til my laptop activation timer expires.

So here's my question.
The school allows me to buy a 64 bit copy of Windows7, but not another 32 bit version.

I really want to keep Windows 7.
So can I use the product key for the 64 bit version for my laptop which already has the 32 bit version installed on it?

Thank you for your help!

Already asked, and yes. You may only need to call MS instead of the online activation.

hey guys,

So this isn't exactly a Win7 question. More of a general MS question.

My friend's computer completely when to pot and so she asked me to fix it. the thing wouldn't boot (even in safe mode) so I borrowed an XP installation disc from a friend and reinstalled the OS.

The lapop is an HP and has the product key on the bottom. But when I entered this key to register the OS, it said it was invalid / typed in wrong. I did the phone registration but the "installation id" that I got and gave to the rep was no good either. I got transferred around but then the call got dropped before there was a resolution. I wanted to check with you guys first before I called again (given how long it takes to make any progress with ms support.

A:Product Key Question

Unlike win7, XP has different media for different license types. In your case you need to find out what edition came preinstalled (should be written on the COA sticker), then get the specific CD for that edition. Also a post-SP1 cd may not work if the computer came with pre-sp1 xp. So basically, you need to get an OEM type CD- service pack may or may not make a difference.

Check in disk management if the computer has a recovery partition- if it has then you can just restore from it. Also ask your friend whether they have the recovery disk (it would have come with the comp) lying around somewhere. That can be booted from and xp restored.

I have a 32bit and 64bit Windows 7 disk, that I got from school.

Well I installed the 32bit, because I only had 3gb of ram at the time. Well now I'm thinking about installing more ram and going with the 64bit(clean install).

The question is, does my 32bit disk now become useless because I activated it on this computer, even though it wont be on there?

A:Question about product key

Welcome to Seven Forums the prestige.
No, your 32bit key should activate the 64bit, but not at the same time.

When you upgrade from a previously installed windows program such as XP to Vista or to Windows 7. What happens to the old product key? Is it just over written? Does it just go into limbo?

My hard drive got broken last week. Going to send it to Seagate sometime this week. I wasn't able to make any backup so I lost all of my files. I just want to know if I can still use the product key of my Windows 7 Home Premium after I get my hard drive back? My dad bought this PC in Greece from Plaisio and I think the OS was pre-installed. There's a sticker of it in my CPU with the product key in it.

For entering the xp mode easily, then I went to control center and removed password for logging in the xp mode. Later I wanted to restart xp mode and I found that I can not log in the xp again. After reading some articles posted in this forum, I found I must have a password for log in the xp mode. How do I enter the xp mode in this situation (I have changed the setting from having password to no password in the control center)? I really need to execute some softwares under xp mode? Could you give some advices? I really appreciated your helps, thanks

I'm just curious if the Windows 7 Ultimate keys that people are selling on eBay are legit or not. I see them ranging from $15 to $30.

Is there a way to verify a product key?

Probaby not legit. A member last week bought Key & DVD from ebay that Microsoft says was invalid Only Microsoft can verify a valid key So it cannot be checked ahead of time Buyer Beware

When I install MS XP, does it make any difference which product code I use just so the code and the install disk are not counterfeit?

Does a specific code have to go with a specific disk?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

A:MS XP--product code question

The key code is linked to a VERSION of Windows XP, Home, Home Premium, Pro and etc, and if a OEM version, then it nees to be the one from the OEM.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_editions for all XP editions.
