I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I am wishing to upgrade the hard drive in my new Envy AIO since it came with only a 5400rpm drive to a hybrid 7200rpm. I have read from previous posts that it is difficult due to the location of the drive sitting behind the curved monitor and to access it you have to remove it. I also have watched a video on someone doing this but they didn't mention how they were able to over come the strong adhesive that attaches the bevel to the monitor without breaking the screen. Is there a documented way to remove the bevel without force? This seems to be a poor engineering design for hard drive replacement or upgrades as well as memory grades where you have to go a step furhter and remove the motherboard since the RAm is located on the back side with no access. I am a computer engineer and very hardware savy and am very concerned about opening up the system to upgrade the hard drive. Any suggestions for removing the bevel safely would be greatly appreciated.Read other answers

I have my brothers laptop and have replaced the screen for him. It may not be relevant but I have also installed an SSD hard drive.I removed the broken screen to get the part number to be able to order a new one. While I was waiting for the new screen to be delivered, I connected a monitor via the HDMI port and installed Windows 10 Pro, anti-virus and anti-malware software along with numerous windows updates. All worked fine and the laptop had been rebooted several times. However, I powered it off, connected the new screen, using the four screws to hold it in place, then powered it on.The power light illuminates for anywhere from 2-4/5 seconds then goes out and that's it! I attempted the "hard reset" prodecure I found posted on the boards, to no avail. I have also disconnected the battery and reconnected it, disconnected the CMOS battery and reconnected it and finally removed and reseated the two memory modules installed. So, I am unable to confirm the new screen definitely works but on the other hand it looks like it could be a motherboard failure just coinciding with the screen being replaced? Is there anything else it could be or I can try? I am confused as the laptop has been running the past two or three days while I have installed new hardware and a new OS.Help!!
If you disconnect the new screen what happens? Will it still boot and display out to the HDMI?Read other 1 answers

I am looking to replace my 80GB SSD drive. It's a constant battle to limit what is stored on the SSD. I have most programs installed on my D drive and Windows (i am running windows 7) seems to be constantly downloading huge update files. I am defeated. I want to swap out the 80 for something large enough that I can stop worrying about what I store on the C drive.
I went on the HP site but the prices for their drives are extraordinary. I thought maybe a typo but emailed HP. My current drive, 80GB MSSD MSATA is listed for $1062.33. The 300GB replacement is $972.80. (hp part #s 665932-001 and 665930-001) surprisingly the 80GB is more expensive than the 300GB but both prices seem outrageous to me.
I actually ordered a drive from Crucial but it is a 2.5". While I think it is compatible, it is much larger than my existing SSD. Their site doesn't list an MSATA drive that it considers compatible with my machine. Any suggestions? Could I use the 2.5" SSD and somehow make it my boot drive? or do I have to replace my MSATA? and if so, how do I find a compatible replacement that is priced more reasonably?
My Envy 23 died a few monts ago, and I've been stuggling to get it repaired. Was not under warranty at the time, and HP refused to help. First repair facility said it was a bad mother board, but couldn't source one to fix the unit - recommended scrapping it, which was unacceptable to me. Next repair facility determined Mother Board is OK, and traced it to video monitor being bad. I have not been able to locate a replacement monitor for this machine. The HP part number is 696330-001, and no one seems to have it available - or if so, seems the price is over $600 U.S. for the part. Can anyone please help me? This machine is 3 years old, was over $1400 new, and it just seems completely unacceptable to junk a very nice machine that is in great shape for lack of being able to find a new monitor. I've been using my much older HP laptop in the interim, but that solution isn't workable long term.Read other answers

Hi. I'm looking to replace the original Broadcom wireless card inside my HP Envy 13 with an Intel card, specifically an Intel 8260GW. I've been greeted with a beautiful 'Wireless module not supported' error, code 704, which I assume has something to do with the BIOS having a whitelist. I've tried disabling and clearing TPM in the BIOS Security options with no success . Am I out of luck, or could anyone point me towards something I could do to get that card working? Thanks.
Hi: I am very surprised to read that you received that notice. Since about 2013, HP had removed the BIOS whitelists from their notebooks. I have a HP 350 G1 notebook that I bought last year and I installed an Intel 7260 in it with no problem at all. I only did it because I saw that other forum members had been putting any wireless cards they wanted in their notebooks. Prior to about 2013, every HP notebook has a whitelist and folks got the dreaded 'Wireless module not supported' notice. That means possibly that HP is returning to the whitelists. The only suggestion I can offer would be to install a supported wlan card listed in the service manual for your notebook and see if that works. You would have to get the specific card listed and it must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work. Chapter 3, pp 15-16 provide the list of the two wireless cards supported with their part numbers. Hopefully, the Intel dual band AC card listed will work. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04996189 If your notebook does not have two antennas present, a dual band card won't work. A lot of notebooks with these newer M2 single band cards only have 1 antenna present. Adding a 2nd antenna would require complete disassembly of the notebook including the display panel area to properly route a second antenna.Read other 3 answers

Hoping to get some clarification on repairing an HP Envy 17 laptop. The exact model is a 17t-3200. The screen is going blank after initial startup. It appears to happen at the point that the video would be handed off to the video card. I can boot the machine into windows safe mode(f8) and also into the HP diagnostic and recovery modes and the screen is viewable. One of the HP diagnostic tests for video memory resulted in a fail. The laptop is out of warrentyWhen I initally contacted HP I was informed that HP would be able to repair the laptop. There would be an inital diagnosis fee to obtain an estimated price for repairs. If I chose to have the repair done, the diagnosis fee would be deducted from the total. I chose to delay sending the laptop off until I could make backup copies of my files.Once I had done that I contacted HP again, (a few days later), about returning the laptop for repair. I called the same support number. This time I was informed that HP could not repair the laptop because a video card to fit this machine was no longer available. So, why the different information each time? Is there a way to confirm that there is in fact no video card available to fit this laptop. It is operating fine other than the video issue. I would prefer to get this machine repaired if possible, even to have as a back up unit.
There is no video "card" it is a chip on the motherboard. If video memory failed the test, this is in essence a failure of the motherboard and means it must be replaced. Here is the Service Manual: Manual See p. 21. There is a different motherboard depending on whether you have 2D or 3D graphics and your processor type. Assuming you have 2D video and the better processor(s) this is the board part number: 689998-001 No longer in stock at HP Parts Store. Hello everyone! I recently purchased a laptop but it was barely usable out of the box. Not sure if the HDD was bad or if it was preloaded with too much stuff. Audio was lagging, file explorer would hang on quick access view, overall slow response to clicking, typing pretty much anything. So I decided to install a SSD. Followed the instructions and all of my problems went away. Due to questionable design I had to remove two rubber feet in the process. Now they simply look tampered with and one won't stay on securely. I wanted to buy the replacement part 856796-001 only to find out HP wants $54 before any shipping fees (if any I haven't bothered to check after I saw the price). Seems way too much for four tiny pieces of rubber. Do you guys know of any other sellers? I mean all of this seems like a bad deal to me. I am even considering returing this laptop. Almost a week ago I went to use my notebook. I opened the lid and that is when I noticed the bottom plate seperating from the the rest of the notebook. I put the lid back down so I could look at it. That is when I noticed that there was a screw missing near the left hinge. I thought it would be fine for a few days until I could get somewhere to get a screw. Then late last night when I went to close the lid when I was done with it I heard something inside break. Today I went to see what the issue was. I took out the screws (the ones I had left) and then started to take of the bottom plate. I didn't have to take much of it off and I found the source of what broke. The left hinge that is near the screw that went missing BROKE. Now I need a replacement screw AND the black piece that conects to the left hinge. Also how do I rethe dust that is near the broken hinge and that bottom plate that you remove to get to the Hard Drive/RAM (the side that faces those things has a thin layer of dust - especially over the ven and speaker areas). Hello Forum, I've just managed to break the head of my HP Envy 14 Spectre (14-3011tu) power adapter cable. The power adapter is one of those HP travel adapters (65W - 574487-001) with interchangable heads. I called HP Australia and various HP suppliers to see if I can get a replacement interchangable heads or even a whole replacement adapter however no one has them in stock (well they have the base power pack but not the correct head and no one know when they'll get extra stock). Do anyone know if there is a similar HP laptop that uses the same long 4.7mm adapter head as the HP Envy 14 Spectre (14-3011tu) ? I'd like to buy one so that I can hack together a new interchangable head cable whilst I wait for new OEM stock to come in. PS. I've already ordered a few of the aftermarket adapters off eBay that clam to fit the Envy 14 Spectre however they are a few micronos too thick to fit in the socket. Hi there, I am new to the Forum. I hope you can help me.The original Windows was 8 upgraded to 10.I replaced the bottom cover. The Notebook was working fine before. In the proses I disconnected the CMOSS battery, HD, DVD, WiFi adapter, etc. I have done this before many times. Before assembling all back, as I usually do, I performed a quick test. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).Read other answers

However, ordering this model back in June of 2012, I was excited to have spent the +2000 of money for a decked out laptop I know I could trust for 5+ years. Down the road, no issues and loving it! However its now time for the battery to be replaced cause it can barely keep a charge for 20 min. I order a new HP 17 battery and while it seemed weird in shape, I thought it would fit. Boy was I wrong! It was for a newer HP Envy 17 and returning it here these upcoming days and now I'm searching and seeing there is no spport for this battery anymore. Like, at all. I'm looking and seeing it for astronomical prices and I can't justify that to be honest. It says the spare battery "657503-001 CT: 6CDYHO7BB2TORE" is no longer being made. I find this very frustrating for a company to change the design (apparently it happened in 2014 or so) and abandon those who spent a large sum on their comuter just to have it completely absolete in 4 years. My coverage went out in 2014 when I had no issues with the laptop or the battery and now that the only issue is the battery and I can't even find it, I feel like I seriously don't want to come back to this company for my laptop usage. Especially if I am going to be charged money just to talk to them for just a simple battery replacemnt that takes less than 5 min. I've seen this take WEEKS once sent in due to not fi... I was recently given 2 AIO computers from a local charity group to try and repair that both have the same problem. They seem to start but the screen remains black on both no cursor or anything. I will list what I have done and this will be on both of them.Replaced ram with known good ones.Removed the CMOS battery for 15 minCleared BIOS with jumper (battery in)Tried tapping F10 for 8 seconds then arrow down twice and hit Enter twice.A hard reset unplugged and held in power button for a couple minutes I see an HDMI port on both but I believe this is an input port?? I have read about reflashing the BIOS on a 23-d010ea and was wonder if this is what might be needed??That article is here CLICK HERE toward the bottom of the page.Any help is apreciated!!Read other answers
I need a replacement white ribbon cable for the Optical Drive on a HP Envy M7 Laptop. The foil tape that holds the cable in postion out of the way of the tray came loose and the cable was damaged. The Laptop wll not "see" the Optical Drive now.I could not find a P/N on the HP site-just the whole drive-and appears to be no way to contact them/Parts Dept. unless I want to spend $59.99 to talk to them.It can't be that hard to find the replacement cable.ThanksJim
