Yoga 530 i5-IKB wifi disconnection on battery power only

Q: Yoga 530 i5-IKB wifi disconnection on battery power only

Hi all, I have a brand new Yoga 530 i5-IKB and the WiFi connection remains connected but loses Internet connectivity every 5-10 mins. This only happens when operating on battery power. So far I have tried: Updating all drivers including BIOSUsing only a 5g networkSetting the advanced power plan settings to be identical between battery and powerAs said above, I don't have this issue with the power adaptor connected using the same wifi as when I constantly get disconnected when running on battery. This makes me believe an issue related to power saving options. Can anyone offer any assistance please?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I got this laptop a few days ago and have yet to get it to work stably.  The first problem: wifi works fine when the laptop is plugged in, but on battery power, wifi will stop working somewhere between immediately and in ten minutes. Other laptops and devices, including my aunt's (also recent, also Windows 10) Lenovo Flex 14, on the same wifi network have no issues. When it loses the connection, it usually still shows full bars and says it is connected, but the Internet will not work. Sometimes it will give the yellow triangle. If I run the windows network diagnostic troubleshooter, it will always give a "the default gateway is not available" error, which it will say it fixed, and sometimes also a "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken" error, which it merely shows as detected. Running the troubleshooter will fix the problem for a minute or so before it recurs again, or I plug in the machine and disconnect/reconnect the wifi. The connection will not come back unless I intervene [edit: run the troubleshooter AND plug it in; reconnecting the wifi alone won't work]. I have tried so many different solutions; nothing has helped. Some things I've tried:rebooting the modem and routeruninstalling mcafeetemporarily disabling windows firewall, specifically whitelisting programs, changing settingschecking for windows updateslooking for newer network adapter drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, tryin... I have a new since Christmas Yoga 720-12IKB and find that the wifi is disconnecting/reconnecting numerous times per minute. It causes significant distruption trying to use the computer, with frequent errors about not being connected to the internet. Generally causes the device to operate very slow, nearly unusable. I'm not having disruption on any other computers/tablets/phones connected. I've tried a fair amount of troubleshooting but have yet to find a solution. The one workaround that I've found is that when I connect to power, the problem goes away. Remove power, issue returns. Suggests a problem with the power management (or possibly network adapter driver) but I can't figure it out. The network adapter is Qualcomm QCA61x4a. Here's what I've attempted: 1) Disable the power management feature of the adapter (uncheck allow computer to turn off)2) Run Lenovo System Update to make sure all drivers are up-to-date3) Manually updated the driver via device manager (went from .312 to .438)4) Switch roaming agressiveness to low Other than making it a desktop (needing to leave it plugged in to avoid the issue) any suggestions/resolution to this problem? Anyone else seeing the same behavior? Frustrating problem to an otherwise fantastic, fun, and fast Yoga!!! Looking for a light at the end of the tunnel....

Hi all. This is my first post, tried many things, but this issue keeps happening and I am out of options.I turn my machine on, connects to Wifi just to lose it after a few minutes. Running the windows (10) troubleshoot will take a few minutes and come back with Gateway not available. I tried all the options in this post:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht502846and also tried fresh start with saving the files and by formatting the hard drive but had no luck.Disabling the Bluetooth doesn't help either. The fastest way to get the wifi back is to go to switch airplane mode on and then off.Every single other device in the house has no problem with wifi, but I still tried to restart the router multiple times with no luck.I am now thinking that this might be an hardware issue, before ripping this thing apart I figured I would ask as a last resort to check if there is anything that I didn't try, OS is Win 10 - everything up to date (had to run the last few updates manually due to spotty wifi) Not sure what other info is required.

I've been using this Yoga 510-14ISK for almost two years now, and I recently realised that the WiFi speed changes drastically between battery power and plugged in charger. Sitting in the same spot, I can get the full speed of my home WiFi if I plug in the charger, but I can get only 1-2 mbps if I use battery power.Has anyone encountered a similar issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

Hi all, I bought a Yoga S730 lately and it's been doing good. However, I found that when I unplug it, the wifi is not stable. It will stay connected to my wifi but there isn't Internet until I restart the wifi adapter. But it will happen again after less than 30 mins. If I plugged in, the issue didn't occur so far. I have been researching about that issue and some suggest that I should change the Power Management to uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and also the Wireless Adapter Settings in Power Options to Maximum Performance. But that doesn't help. Is it just me or does anyone has the same issue? Thank you!

Hi bfc1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Best that you also try to remove the battery , harddrive , memory and press down the power button for 15 seconds to power drain while unplugged .  then connect the charger and press the Novo button if power would not show any activity.

What is the machine number from the sticker so I can get you the hardware manual for reference specific to your machine . You may also go to the support site for the manuals .

There are times that it is not always the motherboard and just DC in connector that is having the issue if not a power daugther board.  Check for any burnt marks or bulged capacitor if you have the tools or skill .

Update us how it goes.

Bought Yoga 900 on 12/30/15.  Recently, it shuts down randomly on battery or AC Power.  Is there a software update I'm missing? It doesn't appear to be battery related since the issue occurs when plugged in too.  I reviewed Power Settings to ensure it wasn't being turned off as a result of a setting.  Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

It's been a year since I've looked at this so now I'm revisiting as I'm thinking of purchasing another notebook/2-in-1. I'm currenly using a yoga2 pro with two RavPower 23000mAH external power banks for longer run times while traveling and during power outages. With hurricane Irma, I'm thinking that power will again be an issue when choosing my next laptop. (The yoga2 pro is starting to get a little bit slow for me and I would like the new machine to have a TPM so I don't have to use an external USB key for bitlocker encryption of the drive.) Are there external "power companion" external battery options to extend the runtime of the yoga 910 now?

But Windows' battery report (powercfg /batteryreport) shows that the X1 Yoga did NOT power off, but went into suspend mode.  1. I've checked all 'Power' options I could find, and nothing seems to tell it to NOT power off. I even unchecked 'Fast Startup', just in case that was related, but it did not help. Does anyone know how to actually power down this thing? 2. Even in suspend mode, is it reasonable that battery usage drop from 66% to 9% in 23 hours? Thanks in advance for any help or insights anyone can provide.

after I installed the latest firmware update (2XCN38WW) for my Yoga 710-14ikb, the battery indicator is stuck at 50% regardless if on battery or plugged in. It worked just fine a week ago with more than 7h of battery life.  Now, When the PC is on battery it simply turns off randomly after a few minutes, but works normally when plugged in. When connected to AC the power LED is off, but the PC does make the beep sound when connecting or disconecting the charger.  I used the diagnostics tool and the quick test indicates the battery is good. I cannot perform the discharge test because the PC turns of randomply and the charge test does nothing as the battery level is stuck at 50%. I tried reflashing the bios with 3 different images but every time I get the battery not detected message in the flash screen.  The pc is stuck at 50% battery and turns off randomply when not connected to AC. What should I do?

My computer is a Toshiba Sattelite o/s win 7. My wi fi signal is excellent, yet my signal keeps dropping or saying limited access. I have tried resetting the router and resetting my default windows settings on the computer. All other lap tops and wireless devices in the house do not have an issue. I discovered the other day as long as the laptop ( not the router) is plugged in and not running on batter power that i do not have a problem staying connected. For fun i wondered if it had something to do with the power cord making some kind of connection when plugged into the lap top, (since everything is more compact in them) I tried having the power cord plugged into the lap top but not into a power source but I still lost signal. Any suggestions?

A:Wifi connection constantly drops when lap top is operating on battery power

Sounds like you may have some power saving option for the wireless adapter when on battery. If so, try a higher (e.g., maximum performance) setting.

My attachment shows that for the plan I'm using I have 'medium power saving' for the wireless when on battery. If I were having your problem I would change that setting to 'Maximum Performance' and test.

After spending another harrowing half hour trying to get my computer to boot, I have to ask: is there a way to turn off the battery unseat via power button thing? In case my description of the issue is unclear (it may be), here's the situation: I actually carry my laptop places.  I know, portable computer being ported around, weird right?  Well, since lonovo decided we can't access our battery, they gave us a way to 'unseat' or 'disconnect' it, holding the power button down for 20 s or so.  Of course, this causes a lot of people to do this on accident and think their machne is broken.  Of course, allowing us to actually remove the battery would be a better  option, but we're sorta past that now. Anyhow, the issue I have is sometimes the battery unseat command is sent as a result of me walking places with the computer in my backpack.  As in, I get places, and the computer will not boot... and sometimes even the standard 'press for 20, plug in, boot' process fails.  Anyhow, just spent the last half hour trying to boot this thing... it finally worked, BUT I would love to know... is there a way to disable this 'feature'?  As in, is there a way to prevent the computer from disconnecting the battery via a power button press and hold sequence?  If so, please let me know, it would save me a lot of trouble.

Hello, just recently I'm a very happy owner of the yoga.I'm fine tuning the setup and tweaking all kind of things. With a different Lenovo I used in the past, I could use the power manager or the registry to specify a charge starting and ending point in percentages when hooking up the laptop to the main power. This was totally awesome to keep the battery healthy and keeping the Lenovo alive to the fullest. With the 720, I don't see the battery option anywhere. Things I tried are: -Registry edit-Installing system interface foundation-Installing power management from windows 7 or 8.1-Installing/reinstalling lenovo settings from windows store-Battery gauge tool install-Bios updates Unfortunately, they didn't work So my question is, has anyone set up the battery treshold on the Yoga 720. And how did you do it?Thanks for your answers!

I tried several times (even restart, update the drivers and try the drivers in old version) and it told me there was something wrong and I needed to try it later. Finally, it told me that the fingerprint reader is disconnected.

There is in the P51 bios an option to auto disable the wifi connection when there is no LAN connection. However, this seems to work backwards... The wifi is only enabled when the LAN is connected and there is no way to enable wifi without a LAN cable. This is with all the most recent updates (including bios).

Hi All,
I received my brand new Kaby Lake powered Dell XPS 13 9360 a couple of weeks back and I have been suffering from wifi disconnect issues since then. The USB LAN connection works perfectly using the Dell USB C adapter.
I have tried all the standard troubleshooting steps:
1. BIOS and Killer 1535 Wireless Adapter Driver updated to latest version  (including uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless drivers)
2. Updated Windows 10 to the latest anniversary edition
3. Changed Power Saving settings on the Wireless Adapter using Powershell commands as there are no Power management options for the Killer Wireless adapter in Device Manager
(Disable-NetAdapterPowerManagement -Name "Wi-Fi" -NoRestart)
After running the above command I get the status of the relevant power mgmt parameters as below (though not sure if its really effective)
DeviceSleepOnDisconnect : InactiveWakeOnMagicPacket : Disabled
 4. Installed the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 10
Even after running step 1 and then later step,2 the wifi connection used to disconnect after some time (especially when a large file was being downloaded or any high network usage activity). Running a speed test of my broadband connection is a sure way to disconnect from wifi. More importantly this disconnection used to crash the Access Point on my TP-Link WR841N router which caused all my other devices to lose network connection as well and required a Router restart.

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hi Guys

first of all, i want all to know that i am pretty darn good at computers, i build and fix computers for a living, and i research and even make technical reviews myself.. reason i say this now so that my fellow experts here would not bother "spoon feeding" me and stuff.. we can go ahead and talk Geek here..

ALright , w/ that said.. here's my situation..

I'm having abit of a problem w/ my flash drive

connecting it to usb , it powers up, and the OS recognizes the drive w/o a hitch.. default drivers installed and autoplay runs to show me my options..

opening the drive, it shows all my folders and files at the root level.. everything seems normal, and detailed list view reveals size, dates , etc.. all seem normal.

[this is where the problem starts ]

as soon as you do ANYTHING, the darn thing disconnects, and then reconnects..

i tried:
- openning a file
- openning a folder
- renaming a folder (F2 or right click)
- checking properties of any file or folder (either by right click properties, or alt+enter shortcut)
- tried accessing it via DOS mode (inside windows environment)
- tried accessing it using DOS based file explorers from Hiren's boot CD and etc
etc
all i can do is just stare at my files.. so close , yet so far lolz

even if i simply select 1 file (not double click, single click only) as soon as Windows tries to access the file for info-summary on explorer's status bar, it disconnects..

i am able to get properties from the drive though, all ... Read more

My Yoga S1 has contradictory, intermittent power issues that I'm trying to chase down. Culprits are bad power bric/cord/plug or power socket on mother board or power board that feeds into power button/led on. One day it blacked out and wouldn't restart to hard drive or windows stage. I did get an error code which I can't remember 5100 or 5500 poss?, that seemed to indicate the power board or ribbons to that needed replacement or re-attachment. So fiddled with it and it did fire up in windows all ok. Then ran out of power and died again. power button wouldn't light up. plugging in power unit did light up led as getting charge. Left it overnight and then it miraculously charged up. pushed power button light up twice then nothing. took out power board/detached ribbon, then it fired up to windows, fixed some hd errors and has been restarting without problems. Except now there is no plug showing on battery icon when plugged in. So not recharging but I'm sure the battery is good. And logically, the power brick and plug must be feeding electricity into laptop to get it to recharge enough to start up. So power socket and plug may be suspect with intermittent contact problems. Or the power board somehow is involved in this? I've ordered a new powerboard as easy screw in and cheap. My question about powerboard is does this control ability of plug to charge battery? power brick with new plug is next order from ebay. but the power socket, which see... hello, Ive had the yoga 900s for over a year, and in the last few weeks, suddenly my battery is acting out. I can charge to 100% and it works fine until around 20% when it suddenly shuts off with no warning. I concect the charger, and turn it on - the battery gauge always states 0%.  why did this start happening - is ther something I can do, or do I need to get it to a lenovo center? thanks,Nir
