Satellite Pro L870 - Touch-pad has suddenly stopped working

Q: Satellite Pro L870 - Touch-pad has suddenly stopped working

Hi - the touch pad on my Satellite Pro L870-18G (Windows 8) has suddenly stopped working (after less than 2 months' use) - which makes the laptop rather difficult to use. According to the device manager there is nothing wrong with the driver - but I tried to reinstall anyway (didn't help).
Do these things normally suddenly fail?

Why does the device manager say there is no problem when there quite clearly is?

Preferred Solution: Satellite Pro L870 - Touch-pad has suddenly stopped working

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Maybe the touchpad is disabled. Is there any reaction when you use FN+F5 key combination?

Hello,  I have an Envy17 and yesterday the touchpad suddenly stopped. No warning no nothing. It was working fine and then I closed the laptop for a few (did not shut down all the way) and the next time I opened it (bout an hr later) the pad was dead. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, numerous re-boots and installing computer/windows updates. Still does  not work. Have tried to double click the opper corner in case it was accidentally turned off but still nothing. When you go into settings, it says it is working properly. Anything else I can try?  ThanksLacyayn

I have been using a USB mouse for a few weeks and touchpad has always been operational. A couple of days ago the touchpad has stopped working. No issues are raised in the device manager so that pointed me to the on/off buttons for the touchpad. But pressing the dedicated button and fn F9 have not changed anything.

Really confused but think I am missing something really obvious as I cannot think of an initiating event so assuming some magic button will bring the touch pad back to life.

All help gratefully received...

A:Satellite Z830-10U - Touch Pad has stopped working

What happens if you disconnect the USB mouse?
Can you use the touchpad again?

From my point of view the usage or installation of external USB mouse has affected the touchpad functionality? I cannot say for sure why and what happens exactly here but I read in different forums about similar issues and sometimes the usage of USB mouse caused the touchpad problems.

For example: in my case the touchpad did not work with connected USB mouse? I was very confused but found a solution? in my case the option ?disable touchpad when USB mouse is connected? was checked and this disabled the touchpad.

You can find this here:
Control panel -> mouse -> last tab (advanced) -> Advanced settings button

A friend of mine could not use the touchpad because it was disabled in BIOS.
This is worth to check too?

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo X220 Tablet that has touch screen and pen. They suddenly stopped working today. The LCD screen still works pefectly fine, however. The touch screen is enabled on the touch settings. When I try to calibrate, it does not detect my finger or the pen. I also noticed that when I tried to reinstall the driver and it said "a supported tablet was not found on this system". I have the most recent bios. I am running Windows 7 that came with the laptop. All windows updates completed. Is it possible for the digitizer to be defective, but the LCD screen to work perfectly fine?Could it be just a ribbon failure?Which part would need to be replaced, if this is the case? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

A:X220 tablet touch screen suddenly stopped working

Even though it looks like a single device, it is really 3 separate ones.  There is a basic panel.  There is a static discharge digitizer in the front to sense finger touches.  There is a second Wacom digitizer behind the panel to detect the pen.  Any of them can fail.  The wires in the cable can also crack.  Since both digitizers failed, I would first look in device manager to see if there could be a problem with a USB hub.  (digitizers both connect as USB devices.)  My next guess would be the cable.  Sorry I cannot be more definite.

So out of nowhere, my 7737's touch screen has stopped responding to touch.  Mouse works just fine.  Device manager has the monitor driver listed as a "generic PnP monitor", which sounds suspicious... and under Human Interface drivers, there is nothing listed for touchscreens, just airplane mode ***...  I have restarted, driver updated, etc. to no avail.  Any ideas?

Hi, I have a Satellite U840t-103.

The touch screen stopped working a little while ago.
I just don't know why.

I think I may have been fiddling with the project button, but I still can't make it work again.

Please help.

A:Satellite U840T-103 - touch screen stopped working

The touch screen does not require any special Toshiba drivers.
The driver is already part of the Windows 8 / 8.1
Therefore I don?t think there is some software problem but of course, I would recommend you to recover the notebook back to factory settings using the Toshiba recovery disk just to check if this procedure would enable the touch screen functionality once again.

This is an first common procedure in case something wrong would happen to the notebook or the system.

But if system recovery doesn?t help, the notebook needs to be checked by authorized service provider for possible hardware malfunction. But let?s hope, the recovery procedure would solve your problem.

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

A:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

My touch screen stopped working in early October without myself doing any changes that I'm aware of. The Windows Anniversary update came at that time and might be involved. In the Device Manager, there is no touch screen under "Mice and other pointing devices". There is a "HID compatible touch screen" under HID, which I've tried to disable and to uninstall. It comes back after reboot, but still no function. It could of course be a hardware problem, but it's usually not.... /Andreas

I?m new to this forum so apologies if I?ve posted in the wrong place.
I have just purchased an Sat Pro L870-18R for my wife as a christmas pressy.
Before she gets it I was going to upgrade the Ram from 4GB to 8GB.

I know it has a single stick of ddr3 1600Mhz in it but without opening it up does any one know what manufacturer of Ram Tosh use for this machine?

I would like to keep the same manufacturer.
If I can to at least give it a chance of running dual channel. I know i could just take it apart and look as I?m going to have to open it anyway to fit the new ram.

I just i didn?t want o keep packing it and unpacking it and opening and closing it up it is a present after all lol .

Any help appreciated thnk

A:What Ram modules are used in Satellite Pro L870-18R

First of all the RAM brand is not very important to get the RAM running in dual channel.
Important is that both RAM modules would support the same specs.

As far as I know the unit was equipped with an SO-DIMM 4GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) module. I guess the part number is: *PA3918U-1M4G*

Hey, I have a Satellite Pro L870-18G with a AMD Radeon HD 7670M card installed. I've been reading up on the specs and see that this specific card uses HyperMemory that works together with the RAMs installed in the laptop. I want to install 16GB RAM instead of the standard 4GB installed and so I am interested in how this will affect my graphics.

According to Toshiba?s own description it will work this way:
+2,048 MB dedicated VRAM. Available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through HyperMemory? technology: up to 3,823 MB with 4 GB system memory installed, and up to 5,871 MB with 8 GB system memory installed+

Where can I see if HyperMemory is enabled and can I see how much memory the graphic card is currently "giving"?

A:HyperMemory on Satellite Pro L870-18G

If you expand the RAM to 16GB RAM, the bigger part could be shared with graphic card.
The graphic card driver assigns the part of the system RAM to graphic memory automatically and this means that its impossible to change this value manually.

In case more graphic memory would be necessary, the driver would share this part automatically.

A:Satellite Pro L870-18R - No boot after CPU upgrade

Is their a bios that will support this CPU

BIOS updates are not released to allow new CPU supports but BIOS updates are release to fix possible notebook issues…

if not what is the max cpu this toshiba will upgrade to. Bit disheartened i cant upgrade.

Fact is that notebook manufacturers don’t support CPU upgrades on own notebooks… this means that there are no further information about possible and supported CPUs.

However, usually an new CPU requires an chipset support and BIOS… so in case you want to perform such upgrade (of course only at your own risk) then you will need to use an CPU which is supported by Intel Chipset. But there is no guarantee that notebook would functions even if using an CPU which would be supported by chipset…

I am at the end of my wits end....
This started on Sunday. I noticed that when I switched it on it behaved as if it had gone to hibernate when I know I had switched it off. It then went black and remained black.
I have tried all the usual battery tricks and eventually, it agreed to start POST-ing again.
Monday: It starts up ok but not internet connection whatsoever. Eventually, after updating the atheros card my interconnect connection worked again. It could have been coincidental, I don't know.
Tuesday am: I switched on briefly to check something and everything seemed fine. Away the rest of the day, computer switched off.
Wednesday am: switched it on and it went to black screen again. This time all the usual battery tricks did not work. I have had a variety of black, white and grey screen throughout the day. At one point, I had a striped screen...
Today I am trying to find someone local who could lend me a computer screen to check the state of my screen.

Anyone got any idea and constructive thoughts that will take me out of my despair?!!
Many, many thanks in advance

Just one question: is it possible that you are using touchpad while working with excel or other software?
As far as I know this notebook?s touchpad supports some additional features like TOUCHPAD with GESTURE. So possibly you used an touchpad?s zoom feature without knowing that?

How come that a laptop which is neither so old nor so cheap is not considered to be compatible with Windows 10?

I guess that in this user to user forum nobody will be able to answer this question but from my point of few every notebook / computer manufacturer have to decide which models would get the further software support…
Toshiba still releases lot of notebook models within a short period of time and in my opinion it’s not easy to provide support for all notebook series… so somewhere it’s necessary to perform a clean cut …

But you can still install the Windows 10 on your notebook and I’m quite sure that the system will work flawlessly but probably some of the notebook features could not be available due to missing software…

Hi all,

Does anybody know of an issue that could cause a no boot (just stays on Toshiba logo forever) followed by boot on the second try pretty much every time on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L870 (Windows 8)?

Thanks in advance

A:Satellite Pro L870 stays on Toshiba logo forever - no boot

Usually the notebook performs the POST (power on self test) while the Toshiba splash screen is visible.
While power in self test, the essential motherboard hardware components (i.e RAM) would be checked.

I think the POST cannot be passed properly and therefore the notebook freezes at the Toshiba logo screen.

But unfortunately, I cannot say for sure what part might be affected? it could be an simple RAM problem or some serious motherboard issue.

My new Windows 8 machine frequently, but not always, displays a split screen with vertical black lines after waking up. When I say split screen, I mean it appears that the screen has 'rolled' to the right, with the right third of the screen or so disappearing and rolling around to the left. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, between the two issues, it renders the machine unusable. I can just about find the restart button, but it means I'm forced into it against my will.

I tried unplugging everything and plugging everything back in again and I tried pressing the reset button on the back of the router. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much

P.S. my router is a linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router

A:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Okay, this is the weirdest problem I've ever hard with computers. Here's what happened:

1. I had a few years old Pentium D 2,8GHz processor running on Asus P5VDC-X mobo. PQI 566MHz DDR2 and GF 7600GS 256mb PCI-E, 350W power.
2. I updated the mobo to Asus P5L-MX to support faster PCI-E cards. Everything worked fine, despite the processor ran too hot (58C on high use)
3. Because of the overheating I replaced the thermal paste but it had no effect on the temperature.
4. I thought I used too much paste so I replaced the paste again.
5. Bang, no video when I turn on the computer. I tried taking off everything part by part but nothing worked. It didn't work even when I only had processor and used the integrated graphics port. Tried resetting the bios too.
6. Nothing worked so I put back the old P5VDC-X and it worked like charm.
7. I thought it was logical that the problem was caused because of the mobo so I bought a new one, Asrock G31M-S.
8. No video... Did the same steps to this one too. It also had integrated gfx but it didn't work either.
9. The old P5VDC-X still works.

So I have no idea what's causing the problem. Is it the CPU? Mobo? PSU? RAM? I have no speaker on my case so I can't hear any beeps, but it won't start loading the OS from the hardrive and my USB mouse won't turn on. Tried using a differen't monitor too.

The main point is why it stopped working suddenly on new mobo's but still works with the old P5VDC-X? A... Read more

Two new motherboards tells us you made the same simple install error in both of them.
Tell us more about power supply, memory, cable.
Did you make sure the memory was correct for both new boards, and what is the memory on the old board. Would also like to know the power supply and other hard ware.
What happens with the most basic, simple install. Does everything light up?

If you used the same hard drive with the same Windows install on the two motherboards, that is the problem. Windows has detected that you have changed the motherboard and will not operate unless you reinstall Windows on the drive on each new motherboard... One install for each motherboard.
My guess is that you will be fine if you change hard drives or do reinstalls or repair installs of the Windows on the new motherboard.

A:mouse and touch pad stopped working

Hi ProcuradorGeral,

So in your control panel under mouse does it have a touch pad at all? Is it enabled in the BIOS, as I know some laptops give you that option to disable it. By mouse stopped working do you have an external mouse? Is it USB?

My touch screen stopped working about 2 days ago. The computer is updated, I ran the HP support and nothing happened. I ran also 2 tests, those that you can enter using F2. Everything seemed to be fine but it simply doesn't work, no matter if it is in PC or tablet mode. The result is the same.

A:touch screen stopped working

Hi @natalia1818, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I read from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP Pavilion 11x360 PC Notebook and the Touchscreen not working correctly. You might need to check that the Touchscreen is enabled on the Notebook. Here is a listing on how to do that: Press the Windows logo key + X.Select Device Manager from the list.Click the little arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the list.Click the touch screen driverRight-click, and select enable from the list.Confirm you want to enable. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I suggest at least 4 days ago as it will make sure to catch what changed the settings. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please let me know how this goes. If this post helps you to resolve the issue you can click the Thumbs up icon to show gratitude! Thanks.
