IE11 wants to save web page instead of opening it.

Q: IE11 wants to save web page instead of opening it.

When I try to open IE11 a dialogue box pops up asking if I want to save the web page. When I click it or cancel it IE closes. This also happens in other programs such as Foxit Reader but I can still access the program after I close the boxes. One program (H&R Blck Tax 2014) pops up the box and I save or cancel and the program stays open but the page is blank. I've tried all flavors of fixes I know and then some. Anybody have some ideas as to what might be causing this?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: IE11 wants to save web page instead of opening it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
First thought would be to use the link and exe file type restore reg files see what happens,
Default File Type Associations - Restore

You might need to do this using clean boot or safe mode with networking to download the reg files ?
Use Clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Safe mode with networking,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Power Drain)
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to safe mode with networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual

The difference though is that there is no security prompt to open PDF files on the old image.  On the new one we get the prompt to Open, save or save-as and trying to find a way to remove it.  Our guy that built the image did not set the Group

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

Hi Everyone,

I have just finished a clean reinstall of Win7 Home Premium following a BSOD incident --- cause unknown.

As no update was being offered following the install, I chose to install IE11 manually.
This appeared OK, and I then moved the Favorites folder to my D:\drive.
Checked registry and it appears in the appropriate "Shell" entry as D:\Favorites.

In the "View" Tab, I have Menu Bar and Status bar ticked, but the Favorites and Command Bar are greyed out completely.

I have imported some Favourites into the folder (from prior to BSOD) and they are all visible, and usable, when I click on the Favorites Tab. I can even see them in the Organise Favorites bit too.

Can anyone please shed any light on what is wrong here please, and hopefully, let me know how it can be remedied?

Thank you,

Ian

Hey mate,

You can save the webpage; it worked for me when I was offline:

Go to the web page in Internet explorer, click on Tools (the cog wheel), select file, then Save as...
You can save the page to the desktop, a folder you've created, downloads, or anywhere really. Then you'll have a list of pages that you can view later on.

Hello,
we are soon to rollout IE11 (currently IE9 is in use). One question came up while testing the IE11 configuration: When you download a file (for eg pdf or docx) sometimes you can choose between "save, open, cancel", sometimes only "open, cancel",
sometimes only "save, cancel".
Which group policy is responsible for the possibilities? Even in local intranet zone we sometimes don't have all three options?!
Thanks for any help
Jan

A:How to configure download options in IE11 (save, open, cancel)

Any idea why?

The way I see it:  You say you don't want it cached, so the only thing you can do is save it; otherwise it could be reused for rendering.

Hi,

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with Internet Explorer and they way it handles opening file from the Internet. Sometimes it gives a prompt like this:

Which is great, I want to turn this on for all common document types (e.g. PDF, Word Docs, Zips). What I've found is you have to either untick the option 'Always ask before opening this type of file', or delete a registry key in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute
When I check my PC I find I don't have that option and the registry keys aren't present.

Could someone clarify this for me? I'm running IE11 and Windows 7.

Thanks
Dave

A:Always ask before opening this type of file - IE11

Hi,
In Windows 7, there is no the key AttachmentExecute by default. For this reason, Checkbox for "always ask before opening this type of file" is missing in the Download prompt window.
Actually, you can choose to add this key in your Registry by following txt, Copy them to notepad, then renamed as .reg file. After that, import to Registry.

Hi all,
I have a deployment of IE11 that I'm pushing out in one of our Task Sequences. Everything goes smoothly, but I've noticed some very odd behaviour on certain computers which have had this build.
When clicking a link that's set to open in a new tab, IE11 simply opens a blank page. The URL shows as blank, and the page never loads in. Additionally, functionality is completely lost on web front-end systems. This mainly impacts "buttons" on
the site, which would ordinarily open a new window/tab.
Having researched the problem I'm not sure if this is currently solvable, though any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dusty.

I am hoping someone can help me, please.
I am usingWindows 8.1 X 64 with Internet Explorer 11 on a desktop. When a link on a saved web page in my documents has been click, Internet explorer opens up but it is totally different to my usual IE. The opened one has a black background and there are a number of tabs open. The tab toolbar is at the bottom of my page. This also happens when installed software opens a page on the net. The only way to close this internet explorer is by dragging down from the top as there are no toolbars and no cross on the left top. I am not sure but I think this happened after I installed Ashampoo software. I have since uninstalled it but this still happens. I have had Ashampoo software before and never had this happen, so it could be a coincidence. I am finding this very hard to explain, so I do hope that it can be understood. My regular Internet Explorer is fine.

Cheers

Hi,

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and IE11. I often get a situation while browsing where I click on a link to read an article and the page comes up blank with the text: This page can't be displayed.

This condition seems to happen randomly. I usually have several tabs open. Once IE11 starts doing this, the majority of tabs produce the same blank page. I even opened a new tab and clicked on Google where the same thing happened.

The solution is to close IE11 and restart IE11. I've tried other solutions such as a complete IE11 reset, but that doesn't cure the issue.

Is there a fix for this condition?

Hello,
sorry, i'm not a computer wizard although I know my way around a bunch of these things.  Have the strangest thing, which I can't figure out.  I have this website, which is giving me always the "Page can't be displayed" error, together
with the TLS and RC4 comments.
Strangly enough, this is the only site where this happens.  All other various sites are accessible (e.g. Google, Facebook, Youtube), so it doesn't seem to be a connectivity problem.   FYI : i also get this same problem with Chrome.
I believe I had no problems with this on my previous computer, who also had IE11.  It must be some of the security settings or some kind of access right, although nothing special is installed.
I have the TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 turned on.  I also tried using the SSL 2.0 & 3.0 but no success.
Any suggestions ?

I cannot figure out how to set the IE11 in Win 8.1 to only print a web page in Black and White. In Win 7 I had found it but with great difficulty and I believe it was in Internet tools if you drill down far enough. In Win 8.1 I cannot find it so that when printing out a web page that has red and blue it is almost impossible to read on my Dell 1700 monochrome laser. I tried in the Devices and Printers, Dell, both Printer preferences and printer properties but cannot find anywhere to set. I am fairly certain it is a setting that has to be made in Internet Explorer but they seem to have hidden it (I think I was using IE9 or IE10 in Win 7). In Excel you can set that parameter for each page in page setup.

I believe the file does not contain a virus, because it's one I uploaded myself. Does anyone know what is going on?
The OS is Win7 and the internet browser is IE11. After I noticed the issue, I tried opening some older attachments and none worked. I had the same issue on my secondary email address as well.
The problem occurs only in IE11. Other browser, such as Opera or Chrome, can open yahoo mail attachments just fine.

Is that a software issue? I think it's unlikely to be a virus, but, ever since I was hit by a ransomware 6 weeks ago, I have become jumpy when something does not work as it should.

I am hoping someone can help me, please.

I am using a preinstalled Windows 8.1 X 64 with Internet Explorer 11 on a desktop . When a link on a saved web page in my documents is click, Internet explorer from windows metro page is opened up. This IE is totally different in set up from the one that opens from the icon on my desktop. This also happens when installed software opens a page on the net. The only way to close the metro IE is by dragging down from the top as there are no toolbars and no cross on the right top corner. If I go into the metro page and click onto IE icon the metro version IE opens, but if I pin it to my desktop and click on the shortcut my default one opens. My default Internet Explorer is fine and is set as default in my programs default.
I am finding this very hard to explain, so I do hope that it can be understood. I have posted a couple of pictures. I don't know if they will help in the explanation.
What I would like is to get rid of or stop the metro IE from opening.
Regards

A:Solved: Metro Applic. IE11 is opening when links are clicked

I have solved my own problem. The reason the Metro IE was opening when links were click was that I had it unknowingly set that way in the internet options. I didn't realize there were two IE in windows 8.1. I have now fix it. I have attached a image of what needed to be done just in case someone new to windows 8.1.

cheers

Hello Techies;

Does anyone know how to take a page or pages from a scanned set of documents in it's PDF format to copy and save those copied pages into it's own PDF document? The goal for it to be easy for people to do on a regular basis? We currently have Adobe reader. Would having Adobe writer help with this?
So for example, we'd scan 100 pages of different documents into 1 large PDF file. Then the need would be to extract one or more of the 100 pages into it's own PDF. Say a copy/paste type of function. This is for a workflow process at the company I work for. Anyone know of software (better version of Adobe?) or tools for this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Running WindowXP Pro - SP3 / IE7

I was going to ask these questions on this forum but have subsequently found the answers. I would like to just get this information out there for the googling satisfaction of anyone else who's feels a little angry/frustrated by this uncalled-for restriction they may encounter.

I write this post in the format of stating the problem and the solution.

Problem:

You want to save a web page but when you go to "Page" on the menu bar then "Save as" and click a format to save it in, either .mht or .html, it starts to save but then at the end you get an error saying the web page could not be saved. Or, the "right click" function is disabled on a web page so that you cannot save an image that the web page owner doesn't want you to save.

The web page owner has written into the html code some active (java) script that prevents the page from being cached in your browser so that you can't save it, and/or, they have written in a right click disable script.

The solution is simple. In Internet Explorer, on the menu bar go to Tools/Internet Options then click on the "Security" tab at the top. Look down and click on "Custom level..." . Scroll down until you see the "Scripting" section. Simply check "Disable" under active scripting then click on the "OK' button at the bottom. When the previous box pops back up, click "Apply" then click "OK". ... Read more

I have an ASUS G75 running win8.  I have lots of RAM and a good internet connection (I get about 38Mbps down and 5 up).  My problem is page loading.  It can get painfully slow, specially if the page is ad heavy, but even pages that are short on ads can take 20-30 seconds to load.  I suspect I am having a problem with either Java or Flash, but don't know how to check further.

Any suggestions?

Are you getting this issue on another browser such a Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox?

Simple really.
GPEDIT "turn off page zooming functionality" does not seem to work in 8.1 on my Toughpad 4K.
Am I missing something? A check of the registry shows that "ZoomDisabled" or whatever it was = 1 yet pinch zoom still works on 8.1
Notes: 10 is not an option, this is for embedded. Chrome et cetera are also not options for the same reason.
Registry, real working GPEdit good.
Requiring specially coded HTML if it works might be an option but I would prefer not to have to explore that canal.

I have a problem when opening a new tab on iexplorer 11. Once opening a new tab, it shows a blank page but I would like it to open to the new tabs page, the page that shows the ten most commonly used web pages. I go to internet options, click on the tabs button, make the change from blank page to new tabs page, click apply, ok, ok. All works well for a while but it then somehow mysteriously changes back. I can not seem to get the desired change to remain. Any suggestions?
Thanks
