Q: B590 + Windows 10 = F11 no longer launches Recover...

Ever since I upgraded from Win 7 to 10, I can longer launch Recovery, which is necessary so that I can restore back to factory settings. 1) I turn off the computer and wait at least 15 seconds2) I turn on the computer and immediately press F113) For a brief second I see a message on the lower left "launching recovery" or something like it, and there's a beep4) Instead of launching recovery, Windows 10 loads normally. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do to get around it? Is there another approach to resetting back to factory settings?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running XP Pro, SP2 and for some reason IE will no longer launch. I was using the browser, hit Ctrl+N to open a new window, and my IE window closed. When I tried to relaunch nothing happened other than a brief appearance by the hourglass - no error messages, no event log entry, nothing. I've rebooted, reinstalled IE, and scanned for viruses, but nothing seems to work. The weird thing is that if I open up Windows Explorer and type a URL in the navigation bar I can access websites without any trouble. However, clicking on a link that tries to open a new browser window or hitting Ctrl+N will cause the window to disappear. Help!

VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator or it was no longer responding to graphics driver commandsClick to expand...

This phrase always pop out in my computer whenever I turned on my computer. After the phrase poped out, the computer will start lagging. The lagging I mean is like whenever you use safe mode (without graphic card) and you try to move some tab around with mouse, it will like lagging. I don't bother it but recently the problem turns worsen. Black screen poped out whenever I turn on, then sometime monitor won't show any desktop, sometime recover with the phrase above, sometime just lagged and auto restart. I tried to reformat but it still won't work. One day, I can't stand it any longer so I search the website for solution, one of the solution was "disable auto recover" if i remember correctly, and I did it. It don't work and furthermore, when I lagged, it auto restart and i can't open my computer anymore.

I restarted 5-10 times and it never work. But safe mode (network) or (without network) works properly without any black box or whatever thing, though it is still lag but it's understandable since safe mode is work without graphic card. So what is the main problem is going right here ? There is no flickering on the Window Startup, or anything black thing when I am using safe mode.

I hope there is a quick and simple solution so I won't go and buy a new graphic card. It cost a lot for me. Anyway, sor... Read more

When in safe mode, Windows is not using the graphics card driver. While it is in safe mode the graphics card is still being used. If it wasn't, you wouldn't get any display at all.

Download the current AMD/ATI graphics driver that is compatible with your operating system. Then uninstall the old graphics driver from Add and Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista and Windows 7). Install the new driver and see if that fixes your problem.

Microsoft tells me the laptop may not be compatable with windows 10.  The laptop has the system requirements for windows 10.  Is there some kind of driver or piece of hardware that would be causing trouble with the internet?  Something that I can update?  Right now is actually the longest it has stayed up. Most likely these started to appear after I installed and played "return to ravenhearst" game. But even I have uninstalled the game I still get the errors.

I downloaded test tools (memory, vide, motherboard, pci express) from Lenovo websites but they could not locate any problem (I ran these tests only once for a single pass).

I also executed "sfc /verifyonly" command and it found no problem.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Can you please provide links to the page(s) where you got the Lenovo tests? I'm not familiar with them and would like to see how they compare with the tests I recommend.

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Out of 5 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnost... Read more

Hi. I just updated to Windows 10. The first time it start it worked fine, but today the main screen is not working. During the start up i can see the Lenovo logo on the main screen, after that the screen turns black. The external screen works. It looks like Windows doesn't detect the main screen, because on the device manager only shows 1 screen (the external one)! 've disconnected the external screen and i've done a screen capture, then no screens are shown on the device manager:

This seems to only happen in IE and no other browser. A pop up ad launches a Window Installer that tries to install Microsoft Office. I cancel it and it tries about 3 more times. After canceling for about the 4th a pop up ad comes up. The ads seems to all come from adserving.cpxinteractive.com. I get this when I visit websites like zshare.net

Not sure if this is spyware, adware or something else. Any help to get rid of this would be nice.

This problem is occurring on two different Windows XP machines, one pro & one home. After an extended period of time ranging from about 20 hrs to 3 days it becomes impossible to launch applications and currently running apps cannot open a pop-up window. Typically I have about 20 windows open, but will have started and stopped dozens, possibly hundreds of mostly console apps. If I close some then it is possible to load apps, but the process repeats itself requiring even more windows to be closed. The only solution is to reboot and then all is well. Immediately following the reboot I can open all the apps present before the reboot and many more.

The most useful error message I have gotten is an Event Id 26, which is not very helpful since it seems to be a generic message used when any popup window fails. Both system & user apps are affected. I have lived with it on a Dell desktop for well over a year. Now Im having the same problem with a Thinkpad. The Dell is hyper-threaded and the Thinkpad dual-core. My other machines have been single. I have not tried turning the feature off yet, but I will.

It seems obvious to me that some system resource is being used up, but I cannot identify what it is. I have tried shutting down all apps and trying to bring the system back as close as I can to a post-boot status. There is plenty of both real & virtual memory available. There is no unusual number of processes running.

I have Googled the problem and found two similar err... Read more

Go into task manager and go to the Processes tab. This should tell you what programs are taking up what resources. Could be one of your programs you use might close, but the process does not stop. It could be that everytime you launch it, it creates another session of it and eventually you have a bunch of extra processes going. Check that out and let me know.

Ive seen that happen with Outlook before.

ok so my laptop's a few years old. It came with Windows 7 Home Basic. it still has it.

My question is that it take A LOT of time to boot. Heres what happens:

1. The starting windows doesn't take that long to disappear, im satisfied with it.
2. But the welcome screen, ugh, First it just displays the Welcome screen background without the 'welcome' text, only the loading circle. Then after a little while the 'welcome; text appears, this par takes a lot of time.

Then the desktop finally appears, but wait theres more!!!

The icons on the desktop appear as white pages (files) then one by one their respective images appear. Sometimes even after the desktop appears it wakes about 5-6 seconds for the login sound to be played.

I have a Intel core i3-2330M processor 2.20ghzz
With 4gigs of ram and 500Gb of harddisk space, which is filled more than 50 percent (about 210 gbs are available).

I've tried to defragment my harddisk, Use CCleaner, used MsConfig to disable a lot of startup rpograms and services and remove a few programs. I would like you to suggest some other software for 'cleaning' or 'optimizing' my harddisk, as i think that its filled way too much and that may be the cause.

OFF TOPIC: is it possible to remove everything from my harddisk 'except' Windows? Because i don't want to format my harddisk and then reinstall Windows.

Any tips and tricks are also welcomed.

I'm running Windows XP and IE 7.

Here's the scenario:

I leave my computer with an explorer window open and it goes into stand-by mode.

I return and select my user acount and re-enter the previously active user account.

I return but really strange behaviour occurs until it ultimately results in about 55 seperate windows of internet explorer start-up. Once the computer "catches up", I can close them all and everything seems to work. It just takes about 5 to 10 minutes to close all the windows. The toolbars will often be modified.

If I reboot, the toolbar will self correct. I run Webroot spysweeper and and Trend Micro Anti-virus. Both show clear.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Launches Today

Microsoft is getting ready to push the go-ahead button for the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is the most important milestone since the release of Windows 10 in July 2015.

The Anniversary Update will come with a long list of improvements, and these include an enhanced Start menu with a hamburger icon and the focus on the apps, Windows Ink for better use of the OS with a pen, a revamped Action Center, updated Cortana, and completely new features such as browser extension support in Microsoft Edge.

The Anniversary Update is available for both PCs and smartphones and can be downloaded via the standard update system - Windows Update or with a standalone ISO that Microsoft will release later today via the Media Creation Tool.

In a June 29 blog post, Microsoft says that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will bring improvements in six different areas and claims that security is one of the most important. Windows Hello for apps and websites and new features for Windows Defender will become available with the Anniversary Update.

For example, one of the new features allows users to perform automatic background scans with Windows Defender even if it?s not the default anti-virus solution running on a Windows 10 device, thus making sure that no malware reaches your data.

Win2k SP2

I had problems mentioned in this thread and resolved them by running the repair feature from the Win2k Intall CD.

Now the machine boots but with 2 new problems. One was that Outlook express wouldn't run. I reinstalled and it now works fine.

The other was that Windows Installer launches upon booting wanting to install the software for my printer/scanner, which is already installed and working properly. I have to hit cancel many times as it just keeps launching over and over. If I click cancel for a while, I eventually get it to close. I can't even reboot while the Installer window is up.

I went to controll panel and tried to remove my printer/scanner but that sets off the windows installer and we are back in the loop again.

This is driving me MAD!

I installed Blaze media Pro 7.1 and now each time I open the program Windows Installer launches. Actually it goes like this:

I click on the shortcut for Blaze Media Pro 7.1 and after several seconds of nothing happening a progress box opens indicating that "TurboTax Its Deductible 2006" is installing with a message above the progress bar indicating "Please Wait While Windows Configures TurboTax Its Deductible 2006.

Then before that can complete another box appears which reads "Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5" with a progress bar and details about opening several .cab files then it switches back to the original "TurboTax Its Deductible 2006" is installing with the progress bar reading "gathering required information"

Then the "Windows Installer" box appears with a progress box.

I click on cancel and the process starts again and loops three or four times and ends with a box that indicates that "the feature you are trying to use is on a removable CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available" and offers a search box to find it. I cancel that and get an Error 1706 No Valid source could be found...Windows Installer cannot continue, click OK and the process starts again.

Eventually if I hit cancel enough all the boxes go away and the program starts as it should.

Microsoft's latest operating system Windows 7 has gone on sale in the UK almost three months ahead of schedule at massively reduces prices, it has emerged.
The software officially goes on sale to the general public on October 22, but Microsoft has released it early with prices starting from ?49.99 for Windows Premium.
Early buyers will be able to snap up Windows 7 for a limited pre-sale period and will save up to ?100 for the Premium package alone.

Microsoft announced early sales of its Windows 7 operating system, just days after Google announced it was releasing a rival product

Those who purchase Windows 7 Professional will pay ?99.99 instead of ?189.99.

A spokesperson for the company has said stocks are limited for the sale which runs from today until August 9.
But all UK versions of Windows 7 will not come with Internet Explorer, which means buyers must install a web browser to upgrade their computer's operating system.
Microsoft is currently in an ongoing legal battle with the EU which said that automatically installing Internet Explorer was anti-competitive to other browsers.
All sales of Microsoft 7 will be based on a first come first served basis, according to The Telegraph.

I recently upgraded System Update on my Thinkpad (T450 with Win7 x64) to Version 5.07.0029. After the upgrade, System Update detected a BIOS update for my 3.0 Ultra Dock (type 40A2; FRU 04W3951). However, the BIOS update does not execute correctly. It launches the Synaptics video hub IC update tool, however the "Update firmware" button is asking for the location of the *.eeprom file, and the "Cancel" button fails to close the window. Clicking on the red 'X' of the window causes a new pop-up to open stating "Synaptics video hub IC update tool has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." Manually downloading the BIOS update and launching shows the same update tool window and behavior. Within System Update, I marked the update as hidden. When I reopened System Update, clicked "Next" from the Welcome screen, and during the Processing Package Information stage, the pop-up UpdateTool window opened automatically. So, I uninstalled System Update, rebooted, downloaded System Update from the Lenovo Support page, and reinstalled. Now when I launch System Update, the UpdateTool window opens during the Processing Package information stage before I even see the list of packages available to update my system. Any help preventing this UpdateTool from auto-launching when I run System Update would be appreciated.Thank you!

First at all, sorry for my bad English and if you don't understand something.

I've windows XP and 1.2 GB of RAM.
When I turn on the PC it starts for about ~ 8 minutes and it's slow like my RAM has been disabled and my graphics driver doesn't load as if in Safe Mode. First time when it happened my resolution and everything had been restarted. If you want me to be more specific, I'll do my best in next reply.

One more thing I want you to know:
Before it happened I tried to connect my phone to the PC and it couldn't be read... I didn't know what happened, I took me by surprise 'cuz it always worked well. I tried to install it, but I was doing some things by chance so I risked and installed something I really don't know what was that :$.. some other kind of USB porting or something like that.. after its installing, windows asked me to restart my PC before the operation could take place and so I did. After a new start up happened all the things I mentioned above.

Thank you for following, hope you will find a solution.
Thanks once again!

A:windows launches normally but few things are disabled ( as if in Safe Mode )

Start>(type) "msconfig" and verify that you are starting in "Normal" mode.

Turn off all non-MS services, and all startups and reboot. Report results.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager

Click "show hidden devices" and report all red & yellow-flagged devices.

Start>(type)"cmd" and at the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and schedule a chkdsk to run on next reboot. Watch scan carefully and report if it finds & fixes any errors.

Microsoft Launches Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4039396

Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 cumulative update targeting only systems running the Anniversary Update (also known as version 1607).

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4039396 includes just two different fixes, and because it does not land on Patch Tuesday, no security improvements are shipped. What Microsoft wanted to do, however, is repair a bug introduced by a previous cumulative update and causing various problems on systems that installed it.

Microsoft explains in the release notes that this new cumulative update fixes Update History and hidden updates being lost on systems running Windows 10 Anniversary Update and where cumulative update KB4034658 was installed.
?Addressed issue where Update History and hidden updates are lost and a full scan for updates happens after installing OS Updates 14393.1532 through 14393.1613, including KB4034658. Installing this update will not restore past update history or hidden updates for users who have already installed the listed updates. However, this current update will address this issue for users who have not yet installed them,? the firm explains in the release notes.

No failed installs so far
A second bugfix reveals that Microsoft repaired a bug impacting the WSUS update metadata processing which could lead to error 0x8024401c on a number of client machines.

There are no known issues at this point and the cumulative update is supposed to install correc... Read more

Probably the biggest change in EMET 5.5 is (official) support for Microsoft's new operating system Windows 10. While EMET 5.2 ran fine on Windows 10, it never supported the operating system officially and this changes with the new release.

When you run the Beta version of EMET after installation you will notice another change right away, provided that you run Windows 10 and not an earlier version of Windows.

The main interface lists the new "Block Untrusted Fonts" option which is set to audit by default. This is a Windows-10 specific feature that is not supported on previous versions of Windows.

Windows 10 ships with settings to block untrusted fonts. The feature is not enabled by default, and can be set to on or audit if desired.

On prevents any font from being loaded that is not in the Fonts directory of the Windows installation, while audit writes untrusted font events to the log but won't block access to them. There is also an option to exclude apps so that they can load untrusted fonts regardless of the global preference.

Other EMET 5.5 improvements

The new EMET version ships with a handful of additional improvements:
Better configuration of various mitigations via GPO.
EAF/EAF+ pseudo-mitigation performance improvements.
Bug fixes.
Microsoft notes that EMET 5.5 mitigations do not apply to the company's own Edge browser on Windows 10 due to " the advanced technologies used to protect Microsoft Edge, including industry leading sandbox... Read more

Just tell me one simple and logic reason for us to move to Windows 10 and leave Windows 7 behind. Other than having the latest thing, which is a virus today, I don't see one. The interface is clearly a downgrade. The quality of the experience seems worse to me. Cortana is just a gimmick and you have google audio search for that. So, it's just an upgrade for the sake of upgrading. In the ol' days there was a feel of finished/quality product in Microsoft's creations. Now, they look like a patched sort'of attempt, which is kinda normal, considering they release new versions of Windows faster than users can adapt to changes. Good!

Hello windows gurus.
I believe this is a setting problem, but can't figure it out.
Dell Studio 1749 laptop running win7 pro 64

I was browsing the internet with IE10, had a bunch of other stuff open (xcel, quickbooks, other software).

All of a sudden, I must of hit some kind of key combo, because the scroll wheel on the mouse started zooming in and out the active windows instead of scrolling them up and down. Also IE10 looked different, the tabs on top "dissapeared" until I hovered the mouse up top, and then they popped back down. Kind of like the Dell Dock.

Then when I typed in a key different windows would open. I believe "i" opened IE favorites, and some other keys did different things.

The keyboard did not work in the sense that I could not type in url's into IE, or information into exel cells, notepad, etc.

I clicked around in control pannel thinking somehoe I activated some global stickey keys, but couldn't find anything.

Num lock and caps lock still activate, and if I reboot, I can login into windows with my password, so I know the keyboard is still connected and working.

Device manager says the device is working properly.

Please help?????
Thansk in advance. I know this is something stupid.

A:Keyboard suddenly stopped working once Windows 7 launches

Welcome to the forum,

Also IE10 looked different, the tabs on top "disappeared" until I hovered the mouse up top, and then they popped back down. Kind of like the Dell Dock.

Sounds like you hit the F11 button, try hitting again.

You may have an F lock key on the top row somewhere too.

When I insert an audio CD Rom to import it into iTunes, Windows Media Player launches and locks both programmes up. I have tried turning off and uninstalling Media Player but it still does it in the background.

A:CD Import to iTunes Launches Windows Media Player

For Windows XP, you should be able to set auto-play to launch iTunes or to prompt you what to do when you insert an audio CD.

With no CD in the drive, double click on "My Computer" and right click on the CD drive.

Select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.

Select the "AutoPlay" tab and select "Music CD" from the list for content type.

iTunes should be one of the action items choices. You can also chose to take no action or be prompted for what action is to be done each time a music CD is inserted.

Click the "Apply Button"

You other choice could be to simply hold down the shift key while inserting a CD. Hold the key down until any CD access lights goes out. You should then be able to use iTunes to import from the CD.

My hard drive is failing on my HP envy m6 and I need to install my windows 8.1 OS over to a new drive. The computer will not boot completely and I have bad sectors affecting the c: drive. Windows tries to fix them but it ran for over 24 hours and never finished. I have been able to copy over the recovery partition to a new drive, but an OS transfer using partition software does not work. Is there any way I can recover the OS to the new drive using just the recovery partition? Any way to start this from a USB drive or other methods? Thanks, RGecy

A:Microsoft launches new Windows 10 Preview build with range of improvements

Just installed it a few minutes ago. They really need to make the build updates install faster.

Build 10061 seems to be fairly stable (sans the known bugs). The UI changes are nice, but it's still incomplete. Hopefully we'll start seeing the finished look (or at least close to it) in the big June build. I really do like the new look of the theme, but there still are some things that are clearly not finished appearance wise.
Feature wise I'm still not sure how close to finishing it they are. They still need to work a lot on Cortana, Spartan, some important core apps and other smaller things.

In my opinion people can start using it for their home PCs without any major issues or for light work, but I don't recommend it unless you are a bit tech-savvy.

Microsoft Launches Troubleshooter to Fix Windows 10 Start Menu Problems

Long-time Windows insiders probably remember that there were builds when launching the Start menu, Cortana, or any item on the taskbar was pretty much impossible due to bugs that Microsoft itself attempted to address with several updates.

And although the number of users experiencing such issues has dropped significantly, it appears that some are still unable to launch the Start menu in Windows 10, so Microsoft has decided to release a dedicated troubleshooter to help determine the cause of the problem and to at least attempt to fix it.

Specifically, the so-called Windows 10 Start menu troubleshooter, which is available for download right away for devices running Windows 10, looks for tile database corruption, as it has been discovered that live tiles could sometimes affect the overall stability of the Start menu and thus render it useless.

Very little user interaction during the whole time
At the same time, it also scans the computer for permission issues in the registry, so in case you?ve previously modified certain registry items or installed apps that applied such changes, the chances are that this is the reason the Start menu is not working. So this troubleshooter looks for such broken registry items and fixes them should this be possible.

Additionally, it scans installed applications to determine if they installed correctly, but also to see if the manifest data is corrupt, as in som... Read more
