I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please check and see if you can get into BIOS. By the way list Dell model number and version of window. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
1. Power off computer
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. Hopefully, you'll be able to see BIOS screen.

Hi

As far as I know the BIOS package downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page contains the WinRAR 32-bit self-extracting ZIP file which includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options.

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

I put in my new video card ( ATI Radeon x1650 AGP) and I tried to get windows to work. It worked but kept shutting down with the BSOD. I searched around the internet and found that I should update my BIOS. I used the ASUS program to download and fix the BIOS that I had and BIOS 1.14 for my Motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-X) after installation I rebooted and my monitor wouldn't show anything a feeling went through my stomach that I had just screwed up big. I tried placing my 2 older video cards (ATI All-In-Wonder 9600, and an Nvidia card from 2000) the Nvidia card showed the screen and it said something about my disk crashing. Is there any way to recover my computers motherboard, or am i in too deep? Please reply if you have any information. Please speak in detail as I am not very educated in this area.

hey all, I bought a sempron 3000+ to fit my pc. my mobo is an asus a7v8x. the cpu was running at only 1.6 ghz so i read that if i updated the bios i could change the multiplier settings to the correct ones for the cpu. i downloaded the updated bios and used ez flash to update with a floppy disk. the update completed successfully, but now nothing happens when i power up. everything appears to be ok, as in no beeping but i have a blank screen. i tried wiping the cmos back to default but no joy. can anyone help??? and does anyone know how to correct the mobo so the sempron will run at its correct speed.....
any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:updated bios with blank screen after update

It is doubtful that a cmos reset would fix the problem.

The first step is to check the video card and processor seating on the mainboard. If you have added a new processor, your video card may have moved during the install. Take the video card out and reinstall it.

Secondly, if the problem is in the BIOS then you will have to take it to an experienced technician to be reflashed. One of the reasons I bought a Gigabyte m/b was the 'dual bios' to save you from this sort of problem. I don't think ASUS have that feature (at least it not listed on the A7V8X web page).

Don't forget that the Sempron 3000+ runs at 1.8ghz or 2.0ghz depending on the model. So don't expect the bios to show it running at 3.0ghz.

Toshiba update software showed a new BIOS update 5.30-WIN, which I downloaded and installed. It said it would shutdown the Laptop, which it started and it was stuck on the Shutdown Screen, with a white cursor in the middle. After 30 minutes, I turned it off.

When I turn it on, it is a Blank Screen and nothing else.

What are the recovery options?

So all this started when I was updating my laptop's bios (which I've done before twice and went smoothly) except for this time.

I downloaded the BIOS update soon after the notebook recommendeds me to do so from official Toshiba website (MEA) after putting it's exact model number and part number as I have done before.

The BIOS version on the notebook was v 1.60 and to be upgraded to v 1.70 the process went smoothly upto the step that it shows it's upgrading insydeH20 firmware with a progress bar in DOS window. After it says BIOS is successfully updated it shut down and all went quiet. But the next time I tried to boot it up the screen came up with nothing (Fans work, Light indicators work). But when I try to open the BIOS menu pressing F2 there is nothing (no beeping too).

After this incident I tried

*Booting up with 1 ram stick only
*Holding down the power button for like a minute
*Taking out and putting back the CMOS battery

....still nothing

Am I screwed up? Or is there anything you guys out there can help with?

So i use the Think Centre e73 with internal graphics. I have put an pci-x Nvidia card in it. Everything is working super until today. I noticed the bios upgrade and decided to update. now I won't get any output from pci-x. I assume it reverted back to using the internal Intel graphics, which wouldn't be a problem if I had the display port adapter. Is there anyway I can change this from a switch on the mobo?  I did try to reset settings by the clear cmos hoping that it would turn into some kind of autodetect to no avail. As of now it boots up but with a black screen. I have been searching the forum for the last hour trying to figure it out. I'm about ready to try anything from hammers to sorcery to sort this out.

I really hope you lot can help me here. I consider myself quite good with computers but I'm at a total loss here.

Thanks in advance.

I agreed to a Lenovo update yesterday (3/21/2018 for my T440s. I remember it saying something about a Bios update and to make sure the machine was plugged in. After agreeing to everything and starting the update, after a while I looked over and noticed that it had a black screen with nothing happening for several hours. The green power button light is on, but when I press it, it just beeps at me. Even holding it down for 10 seconds or more with nothing but a series of beeps (screen stays black with green power button light on). I tried taking the battery out and letting it run out of power, then put the battery back in, plugged it back in and tried to get it to restart.

A:T440s Bios Update Fail! Black Screen w/ Green Power button still on. (Windows 10 64bit)

One thing you might try that works on some ThinkPads is to reset the BIOS by unplugging the coin cell battery.     That will involved removing the AC power adapter, the main battery and the bottom cover of the laptop, which is detailed on page 61 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual.    Once the base cover is removed, unplug the coin cell battery (see page 67 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual) for a few minutes to let the power drain, and then plug it back in, re-assemble the laptop and try booting it back up. Be careful when prying up the latches while removing the base cover because they can break easily, but I found that gentle prodding and an old credit card etc. can be useful in working the latches free, but you can also get special tools at most electronic stores (often referred to as "spudgers"), to help pry open the case if desired. Best of luck,

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Hey @cgruchy11,  Thank you for joining in the HP Support Forums and asking for help with the BIOS Update on your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab137ca that you are stuck on.  Did you manage to get the BIOS Update to finish?  Is it the BIOS Startup menu that you are trying to have not come up when you start the Notebook? The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is responsible for setting up devices used by your system so that those devices can send and receive data. Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Is this an AMI BIOS.
If so, and you can get the new BIOS onto a floppy, there is a possibility you may still be able to flash the new BIOS.

Most Mobos with an AMI BIOS will look for a floppy disk with a bios update on it.

Hi, New to the board and looking for some help. I have a w500 still in warranty. We have been having issues with running Vista and the machine not rebooting after hibernation. Today I found some time to run updates using the pre-loaded ThinkVantage software on the machine. There were quite a few on there including a Bios update... upon running the updates and the machine restarting at the end, I get a black screen....  and nothing... the power lights are on but not more.  I have called Lenovo tech support and they advised me that because I did the Bios update (as part of the many updates that were suggested I required) I have voided my warranty support for this problem.... apparantly I was made aware of this as part of the disclaimer prior to running the updates!!!   Does anyone have any suggestions on steps forward from this point?

From what I understand  your notebook works fine when using English keyboard layout, but does not work as expected if you change to Spanish keyboard layout.

Check your BIOS for a language or region setting and adjust as needed.  Also - look in control panel for keyboard settings and install additional keboard layout for Spanish.

Good luck.

Hello All! I am a bit inexperienced and new to the forums and am seeking help. I have been using a latitude E5520 for a few years now and have been very happy. About a year and a half ago, my hinges broke and slowly my laptop has been dying. I recently purchased a refurbished identical laptop with the hopes of just moving my SSD, RAM, Processor over and It would all work the same. Once I put my SSD in the new laptop, it would boot, but turn off after 10 seconds and I could here the fans going at full speed before it died. After doing some research, I figured I would update the drivers and BIOS to get the current laptop config as close to my old laptop as possible to increase the likelihood that the SSD would work properly on this other laptop. After downloading the FW and following the instruction, the laptop shut off and never came back up. The lights and keyboard attempt to turn on, but the screen doesn't attempt to turn on and it is making some small noises as it keeps shutting off and powering on. At this point, I would just like to get the new laptop working and forget about swapping parts, if anybody out there can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

A:Bios update fail | Latitude E5520

Hi wisp.em,
Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.
Please confirm if the Hard drive shipped with the system is working fine on it. Is the replacement system same in configuration as your Latitude E5520? Can you boot into BIOS <F2>?
Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address, so that we can check on this.

The Lenovo software program recommended a updating the BIOS. I ran it. It flashed the drive and then I got a failure message.   The Flex 5 has not been able to start since and ends with Windows 10 blue screen of death saying it can't find boot device. In the BIOS it shows hard disk 1 as the SSD drive that I need to boot to and hard disk 2 the HHD drive for storage.   In the boot manager all I see is the HHD drive.   The SSD drive which has the bootloader is not listed as an option.   I think my BIOS got messed up after the faield update.  I can get to the Windows 10 recovery/restore tools.  Can the BIOS be restored or reinstalled from the command prompt?    Any ideas on how to make the BIOS recognize the SSD drive in the boot manager?

Hi,
Any advice?
I have a 9010 SFF that was working fine, except that it would not install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.  Repeatedly, about 30% through the update it failed with a BSOD. I tried several times.
Somewhere I read that the BIOS might need updating so I headed over to DELL support.  I let the website automatically detect my system and it found a recommended BIOS update, version A24.
I initiated the BIOS update from the website and it seemed to run successfully but when the PC rebooted it hung half way through POST.
On a second attempt to start the machine - nothing - no display, no light, just will not start.
I tried clearing the NVRAM as indicated on the DELL website here: www.dell.com/.../SLN284985
I tried both the RTCRST jumper method and the battery removal method.
The result - it now continuously reboots but still no POST, no display, nothing.
I should add that during the original BIOS update, the PC had a Quadro 600 graphics card and a LSI 9200-8e SAS adapter card inside. They had both been working faultlessly and were removed when I tried to reset the BIOS NVRAM.
Any suggests on what next to recover my "bricked" desktop?
Andy

I have a Toshiba Satelite PRO 4300 that will not boot up. It displays a screen that has a graphical moon and sun seperated by a bar graph type box. There is no indication of a bios screen on power up. The LEDs initialize as expected. It will not even recognize a floppy disk after the drive does a seek at power up.

Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like a power issue
