Can I make a second userkey.psw file, or make a working copy of one?

Q: Can I make a second userkey.psw file, or make a working copy of one?

In Windows 7 Pro, I want to have a second copy of my userkey.psw Password Reset Disk file, with the same password: one to keep in the building, the other to take offsite.

If I generate a second userkey.psw file using the Win7 utility, will it override an earlier one, even if the password has not changed?

If I make a copy of the userkey.psw file using Windows Explorer and put it on a CD, will it work?

Any links to official documentation on this would be most appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I need to replace a file in windows\system32\en-us and it gives me a deny file to be copied how can I do this so I can copy a file or replace a file. thanks sorry how to gain access.

A:How to make my c drive to copy file to system 32

That area is probably the most protected spot on your computer and it was never designed for mere mortals to mess with.

I don't know what you are trying to do, but if you are trying to fix some corruption, maybe you should look at the 'SFC' command.

At an elevated command prompt, you can run 'sfc /scannow' to validate and fix most of these files.

If you just want to see if something is bad, without attempting a fix: 'sfc /verifyonly'.

Type 'sfc /?' for help and check my spelling.

Below is a batch file I created to copy all the files from a program called A5V5. This batch file works to copy the files to two different drives What I want to do is if the J: Directory is not availble (This is a flash drive) that it will copy to the E:\ directory which is a second HDD and not leave a "The system cannot find the drive specified" when the flash drive is not inserted.

@echo off
cd c:\
cd program files (x86)
cd A5V5
cd Ranch Mobile, Inc
Copy *.* "E:\Ranch Mobile" (This is a second hard drive for backup files only)
Copy *.* "J:\Ranch Mobile" (This is a Flash drive that is not always inserted)

Thanks for any help. I like the way batch files work and I can do these simple ones but when it comes to doing the more complicated ones I am at a total loss.

A:How to make a multible copy batch file

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Can you try the following and see if this works:

@echo off
cd "c:\program files (x86)\A5V5\Ranch Mobile, Inc"

Copy *.* "E:\Ranch Mobile"

IF EXIST J:\ (goto jdrive) ELSE (goto end)

Copy *.* "J:\Ranch Mobile"

This will always copy to your fixed E:\ drive and will only copy to your J:\ drive when exists.
Is this what you wanted?

I just purchased a pre-owned Lenovo T420 laptop with Windows 7, but amazingly, over these many years, I've never had to back up my OS before because someone (my tech guy mostly) had always done it for me. Anyhow, while I do intend to make a full system backup copy, which I have no doubt will include the Windows 7 OS, I would also like to create a backup (disk) copy of my OS only since no install disks came with the computer. I can load the Windows 7 OS onto an 80Mb CD, but the entire hard disk backup will take many gigabytes and I intend to use a 32 Gb flash drive for that purpose.

My first and essential question is, can I create a Windows 7 Pro "restore" disk by just copying and pasting the entire "Windows" file on my hard drive to a CD or Flash drive...or is there more to it than that?

When I started to create a backup copy of the entire disk using the Windows backup program, I took particular notice to the
fact that (after I selected the custom selection option rather than the automatic selection for which files to copy) that the Windows file was no longer listed on the "C" drive menu provided in the backup program. It is certainly listed on my "C" drive when I bring it up directly, so can anyone explain to me quickly what that's all about?

Just bought this netbook that came with Win 7 Premium. The first thing they recommend is to make a copy of their OS. Now this netbook did not come back with a burner, which i was aware of anyway. They do recommend a usb flash drive with the capacity of 12 gb's. I do not want to have to spend more money on another gadget just to make a copy of it. I do have a burner in my desktop which i have networked to the netbook, and am trying to see if i could at least copy or share it to my desktop and make copies there...but having a heck of a time so far. Any other suggestions that have escaped me?

I don't know how to explain this, but I will try my best.

My brother died recently but a few years before his death he created his very first website (which he had never tried before) for a local tennis club, which he maintained and updated.

I am going to give the tennis club the domain name and they might change the look of the website in the future.

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to save the website as it is to remember what he did?

A:Possible to make a copy of website?

Once you give it to them then any changes they make will wipe out what he did. Only thing I know of is to save all pages using your browser then keep in a safe place.
Sorry about your brother.

EDIT: Don't know if he used a third party service for site building but if so they may have a way to save/backup the entire site on your local computer. If he did it all himself then you may already have it on whatever computer he used.

I've made these cd's from time to time and can't think of anything I'm doing wrong. I'm using a DVD-R disc. Can you advise? Thanks... Steve

A:How do i make a cd copy of favorites ?

Hello and welcome Steve mate I didn't know that there could be so much to go wrong all I do is copy/paste links whatever to a dedicated document and right click > send to > optical drive. It opens I insert a disk in and it burns.

Just out of interest why are you using a DVD when there is a ton of space on a plain CD?? An alternative would be a USB stick I suppose.

Hello Dr. Sdaa7,

Usually you will have a recovery D: partition on a laptop that can be used to restore Vista back to a clean factory install. Normally the OEM will allow you to create a set of Recovery DVDs to also use.

What brand and model number is your laptop? I will see if I can find instructions on how you can do this from your laptop manufacturer's (OEM) website.

You can create a backup file of your digital ID in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and secure the file with a password. Backup files for Microsoft Exchange digital IDs have an .epf extension; while backup files for Internet e-mail digital IDs have a .pfx extension.
1. On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click E-mail Security.
2. Under Digital IDs (Certificates), click Import/Export.
3. Click Export your Digital ID to a file.
4. Click Select, click the digital ID that you want to back up, and then click OK. The certificate appears in the Digital ID box.
5. In the Filename box, type a name and path for the backup file that you want to create, or click Browse.
6. In the Password box, create a password for the backup file.
7. In the Confirm box, type your password again.

How can I make a backup copy & keep date the same?

I?ve search quite a bit for an answer & the only thing I?ve found is using some command line programs to do the job. If I was only going to make a backup copy of a few files or folders that probably would not be a problem.

But I?m trying to purge useless files from the main HDD and/or the EHD. And update files & folders as I go along. I've been having both drives open in 2 different Windows Explorers so I can compare things & tweak as I go along. Closing out or minimizing these & going to command line mode seems time consuming, especially since I?ll be constantly having to jump back & forth.

Isn?t there any slick Windows app that makes it easy to copy to another drive & keeps dates the same?

A:How can I make a backup copy & keep date the same?

Be careful while having two Explorer windows open. Long ago, I did that, had two operations going at the same time, lost control of explorer.exe, forcing me to boot and restore a recent OS full image backup; this was some time ago, W98SE. However, it sounds like you're being careful, so I doubt you will have any problems.
I was going to recommend Explorer++ and/or FreeCommanderXE, however, I'm not sure if those will make your copy/purge life any easier. I'm still trying to visualize a part of the very good stuff you're going! I love doing geeky things

I'm not really sure which forum to put this in so I will put it in Vista since that is my OS.

I recently purchased a Compaq laptop. Before purchasing it I asked about recovery discs. I was told that recovery discs did not come with the machine but that I could make my own very easily.

OK fair enough. But I have now come to find out that the software on the machine will only let me make one copy - ever. My experience with self-burned CDs and DVDs is that for some reason they do not stand up as well as factory-burned media. So the notion of having one set of recovery disks that are self-burned is kinda scary to me.

I was wondering if there is some application which would allow me to make a direct or bit-by-bit copy of my back-ups so that i can try to avoid getting into a situation where I have nothing to reinstall from.

A:Is it possibleto make a 'direct' copy of a DVD

Recovery discs are ISOs.

You also have a recovery partition which s/b used as the primary source of recovery, the DVDs second.

If necessary, you can purchase another set of recovery DVDs from HP for your Compaq system for about $25.

My eMachine T5048 came with a Recovery Disk that I've had to reinstall XP (Media Center Edition) with it more than a few times over the past 3-1/2 years and it's become slightly scratched and dirty despite my meticulous efforts to keep it in pristine condition. I don't want to clean it for fear of adding more scratches. And now I worry that when the time comes to use it again if need be, it may not work for me and I'll be stuck with a dead computer and no OS to reinstall. I could prevent this if I could make a duplicate copy of my recovery disk to have as a backup in case the original ever fails me in the future.I've already made many attempts to do this. I put the recovery disk in the drive, exited out of the install when it came up. Using Windows Explorer to see the contents on the disk, I highlighted everything, right-clicked and "copied", then created a folder on my hard drive and in that folder I "pasted" everything from the CD into it. Then I took the recovery disk out, put a blank DVD in (the total size of everything from the disk is 1.4Gb's so a CD is too small) and tried to copy & paste from the hard drive to the DVD but I kept getting the same error window popping up telling me "Problem Copying" asking me to Retry, Skip, or Cancel. I tried over and over clicking the Retry button but it wouldn't copy anything over. Here's a screenshot of that error window: http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5294/... Read more
