Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't wake up after sleep mode

Q: Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't wake up after sleep mode

Hello all, I bought my lenovo Edge 2-1580 in December, but recently, the display won't turn on after I wake it up from sleep mode. The rest of the notebook still turns on and the power button is lit, but the screen will stay black even if I move the mouse or press any keys. I have to do a manual shutdown and then turn it on again, which works but then the problem occurs again when it goes to sleep mode. I've updated the drivers and disabled the notebook from going to sleep, but if I manually put it into sleep mode the problem continues. I've seen this as a common issue regarding Windows 10 as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just resolved this issue recently with my Flex 3 1580, so hopefully my solution works for you. First, update the video/graphics driver (intel or nvidia) from the Drivers & Software page on support.lenovo.com. Test sleep mode again. If the screen is still not turning back on, then update your BIOS. Back on the Drivers & Software page, look for the latest BIOS update and run it. In both cases, but especially for the BIOS update, make sure your laptop is plugged in.

Please help! I've been using sleep mode for pretty much the entire time that I have had this laptop (one month plus).  This is the first time I sent it into sleep mode for the evening and awoke the next day to find that the laptop refuses to wake up.  The keyboard will light up merrily along with the power button, but the screen will not turn on.  The fans are also running full tilt.  I can hear them running loud and clear, which is abnormal as during normal operations I cannot hear this machine running at all.  After having a jet engine for a previous laptop, this was one of my favorite features of the Flex 3. I have tried doing a ton of different things to get the laptop to wake up again including power resets and using the Novo button.  Nothing has worked.  If I could get at the battery and motherboard battery without voiding my warranty, I would.  My only solution is to try to run the battery down by leaving it on with the keyboard lights as bright as they will go and let the fan run like a jet engine.  Hopefully this will drain the battery in faster than the 4 days that everyone else was reporting.  Anyways, I don't know how everyone's Flex 3's lasted that long on battery anyways.  Mine kept turning itself on. The point of this post is to ask what I can do so that this issue never crops up again.   I love this machine, but if this becomes a recurring problem, I'm going to have to can it and g... Hello, I have an Ideapad 510S13ISK on Windows 10 bought less than a year ago. After installing the Updates for windows (Version 1709) on December my pc started not to wake up from sleep mode, neither closing and opening the screen nor trying to wake it up using the power or any other key.I tried previously to update all drivers from Lenovo's support site. Then i tried to use a restor point created before the Windows Updates, but they still remained installed. At that point i reset the pc using the reset option by windows but the problem was still present.I updated again all drivers after the reset but nothing, it doesn't wake up. Precisely the pc seems to wake up but the screen doesn't, and it "flashes". Here a video of the probem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LntcxCrlZqQ I'm sorry for my english, hope you understand. Kind regards. Marco

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

I have a lenovo edge 2 1580 and it worked perfectly fine last night.  Today I pushed the power button and nothing happened.  The little white LED next to the power button is lit but the screen will not turn on and neither will the fans.  I have tried unplugging the battery and RAM and holding the power button but that didn't work.  I also tried putting a paper clip in the little hole next to the power button but that didn't work either.  Has anyone else come across this issue?  I have searched the forums and tried everything I could find but nothing seems to work. The laptop is still under warranty but if I send it in, I was told it will take 2-4 weeks before I will get it back and I have important work information that I need to get from there and it can't wait that long. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Lenovo Edge 2 1580 fails to power on completely.  There is a slight glowing from the screeen but other than that it does not complete the power on process.  I was able to get it to boot up by removing the CMOS battery and found a bios updated that needed to be applied:  D3CN32WW.  I applied the bios update and thought that fixed the problem.  I rebooted fine a few times with the CMOS battery in but then stopped again.  There is a note in the bios update file for the Ideapad 300s/500s failing to power on when it is booted the first time or after a period of normal use.  This is very issue I am having.  However, I can only get the computer to work correctly if the CMOS battery is removed.  Anyone else having this issue?

Okay so like the title says I recently cracked my laptop screen and since I don't have any warranty I'm going to do the repair myself. My first question would simply be what parts do I need to buy? Looking at my laptop it appears that only the glass panel that goes over the digitizer is what got messed up. The LCD panel is fine and the touchscreen still works so I believe all I have to do is replace the front bezel? Is that possible or do I need to buy a whole new LCD panel to repair my laptop?  Besides two thin cracks going through the screen, most of what shatted was the top right bezel portion.  Please help me !

A:Lenovo Edge 2 -1580 Cracked Screen. What do I do?

The thing you call the front glass is the digitizer. There is a matrix of VERY fine wires running through the glass.  The whole screen is bonded together so you need to replace the whole panel.

I can't believe I did it but I did, I closed the lid firmly on my keys. I heard a crack and then the screen started shaking all over the place. So my digitizer is broken. I need a new one. Where do I get one and how much are they? I noticed there are several Flex 2 15.6 inch digitizers on Amazon. Will they work? I asked them the question and never heard back. Probably do not speak english. Oh well guys, what do I do?Thanks for reading!!

A:New Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't turn ON anymore

Hi jheng,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

I guess it seems to be a hardware issue, but before I go ahead with the troubleshooting steps I would like to remind you regarding the warranty of your laptop, if the laptop is in warranty then you can take the laptop to the nearest service centre or you can contact the Lenovo contact centre.

However, before taking the laptop to the nearest service centre please perform the below given troubleshooting steps and let me know the result of the same to assist you further.

Try powering on the laptop only with battery and check whether it works?
Try powering on the laptop only with adapter by removing the battery and check whether it works.
If possible try swapping the battery and adapter to check whether the issue is with the battery or adapter?
If none of the steps didn?t work, toggle the caps lock key and check you can see the LED indication.
Remove the battery and AC adapter
Remove the hard drive and wlan/wwcan cards
Remove both RAM modules
Re attach the AC adapter and boot

Please post back whether the above steps helped  you.
Thank you, have a good day.

I've used this laptop for about two weeks worth of gentle use and now, after booting up, trying to do almost ANYTHING freezes the laptop, the things that don't cause it to freeze do nothing. I can't even open the START menu, just right clicking ont he desktop causes it to give me the 'processing' circle and doesn't stop, meaning I can't click on anything anymore. Even just trying to bring up the touch keyboard freezes the laptop, (the keabord also stops working once I reach the desktop). Again, this is only after about two weeks of use compared to my old laptop, (the one I'm using now), which I have admittantly abused for five-ish years and it still works fine, not perfectly but it works. EDIT: So I managed to get lucky and it didn't freeze long enough for me to get into the settings and start a reset, the screen says, "This won't take long", but I suspsect it may take a while.

A:New Lenovo Edge 2-1580 Freezes on Desktop

Hi Xros,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Try the BIOS update.
When in Safe mode, remove your current video driver. Boot up to your regular desktop, which should now be in VGA mode (all video cards have a default VGA mode, when you don't have a driver installed). If the desktop is now not frozen then that helps prove it was your video driver being the problem. See if that fixes the problem.

Let us know how you get on.

Shashi

A colleague gave me his Lenovo Edge 2-1580 laptop to look at due to a charging problem he just encountered.  He said it started acting up about 3 weeks ago.  With the adapter plugged in, it quit charging (even though it registers as "plugged in, and charging").  He bought a new charging adapter, which did not fix the problem.  Then he bought a new battery, with the same results.  Then he gave it to me, and I am completely stumped. Both batteries are completely dead, with no way of charging them at all.  The laptop will run, as long as the charging adapter is plugged in.  I have tried every trick I could locate online, to no avail.  I might add, the laptop is not under warrenty, that ended on 2-20-17.  As a last resort, I did a OneKey Recovery, and took it back to factory settings, just in case some download may have affected it.  Still the same problem.  I am starting to think it is a motherboard issue, but as I said, it is out of warrenty.  Anyone have any ideas??  I have seen it change occationally from "plugged in, charging" (which is usually what it says, and isn't addressed that much online at all) to "plugged in, not charging" (which is talked about quite a bit).  But as stated before, all the tricks mentioned under those site, I have tried and nothing works. Would greatly appreciate ANY advise you could offer.  Right now it is a good paper weight that has to be plugged in all the ... Hello, I am using a Lenovo Edge 2-1580. I want to use a Logitech G230 headset with it; since it has two plugs (one for microphone and the other for audio output), I am using a Headset Buddy adapter with it. The adapter is plugged into the combo headset jack on the left side of my laptop. The sound coming from the headphones is fine. However, the microphone input is dreadfully quiet. I tested it by fiddling with the mic with my fingers, which should produce a loud, static-y sound, but I only get a faint rustle. In the Control Panel, I tried going to Properties on the Microphone Array to turn up the volume and Microphone Boost to the maximum setting (+10.0 dB. I've seen people get it higher in videos, but I can't seem to do that) and turning all Enhancements. Even still, I have barely any audio input from the microphone. Where is the problem? (in software, the headset, the adapter, the laptop, in the Control Panel, etc.)How do I make the microphone input louder if everything is already set to the maximum setting?Do I need any new hardware/accessories?Should the Control Panel state that the audio input device is a Microphone Array? If I'm using a headset, should it say something else?Would a different headset, say Logitech G430, work better? Thank you!

Hi all,

I have a problem with my pc, as I sleep my computer via the sleep button on keyboard, or under start menu, it sleeps normally.
But when i attempt to 'wake it up' by pressing the power button, the pc failed to resume to windows, while the fans n power are function by the sound of it, and i'll have to force shut down my comp by holding onto my power button as the reset button and other things doesnt work.

This has happen occassionally/often, sometimes it can wake up and sometimes it cant, I'm not sure what is causing it.
I do notice that the num-lock light on my keyboard (which is always on when in windows) switches on in the case that the computer can wake up, and stays off after sleep mode if it cannot b wake up after i press the power button.

Its been a problem for a while but I've jst been far too busy to seek solutions to this. If anyone could lead/guide me in the right direction in solving this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

He had to leave on a military deployment and right before he left he had to reinstall the OS. Since then the computer refuses to wake from sleep mode. I have to scram it to get it to come back up. Since we run the media center it ought to wake up to record automatically, but it isn't doing that either. I've checked all the power options but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Although, at this point, I really have no clue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

System goes into Sleep Mode, but when I try to wake, it freezes with Black Screen, so I have to restart system, and when I do, it gives me a "Resuming Windows" screen and takes me back to where the I was when Sleep Mode entered.

By process of elimination, I know the problem is being caused by some newly installed software, namely HTC Sync Manager, but I don't know where/how/why the conflict is occurring...and here's the rub-I really want to keep HTC Hot Sync.

I've tested the HTC software on two different PCs running Win 7, with same result, but HTC says I'm the only one reporting this problem, so...no help from that end.

I'm hoping that someone here can give me some suggestions of things to try that might at least localize the problem or ideally be a workaround.

Thanks

I literally did a complete reformat yesterday, and did not have this problem prior to reformatting.

Since then, every time my computer goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up.

Moving the mouse, pressing a key, or even a short press on the power button. I have to manually power it down, unplug it, let the reserve light drain, and then turn it back on.

I tried to Google, but I can't find anything that isn't a bunch of blind leading the blind. I am fairly proficient with computers.

I've been getting this bsod when I wake pc out of sleep mode mostly. It seems to have something to do with my graphics card. I've installed the latest drivers for it and it stops for awhile, but then it comes back. I've ran a stress test on it ( 3 or 4 passes) and it didn't find anything wrong. I need some clues as to what to do next please. I've include the dump files.

Please uninstall Acronis, at least as a test.

Also Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

Hi SevenForums. This is my first post here, so forgive me if I'm breaking any etiquette.

My problem is that, if I just close my laptop and let it do it's thing, when I re-open it and it goes to boot up, it takes a very long time, up to fifteen minutes. And even after that, everything is basically unresponsive. Opening the start menu takes several minutes, running the Task Manager takes no less than five. That's to say nothing for larger programs.

This happened several times, all in situations where I closed my laptop without shutting down or logging off. I'm not sure what the default action is for that (sleep or hibernate?) but whichever it is seems to cause my laptop to simply cease being able to perform.

Prior to now, this was easy enough to fix by just restarting the laptop, sometimes a couple of times. Now, however, unless I boot in safe mode (such as I am now, with networking), I can barely get past the log-in screen. Anyone have any solutions?

I don't know about tech stuff really, but I can take directions well enough. If there's any other information I can provide, let me know. I'll be diligently checking this post all night!

Thanks in advance, guys.

What antivirus do you use?

I have my computer set to sleep after 30 mins of idle so that it won't stay on all night. But lately when I wake it in the morning, I have noticed the cpu temperature steadily rises over 2-5 mins until it gets so hot the computer shuts itself off without even performing a crash dump first. I started using Coretemp to monitor it to discover this when the shutdowns started, and WhoCrashed to try to figure out the crashes (but since its not creating a report that doesn't work). I normally run below 40 for idle and below 50 at load, but after waking from sleep it starts in the 30's and just keeps climbing without the fan ever becoming more audible or seeming to react. Its not a false reading either - you can SMELL it getting hot, thats why I got Coretemp involved in trying to figure it out.

It is now doing this every single time it sleeps, whereas before it was more random. After it shuts off (or I shut it off to protect it), and cools off for a few mins, I turn it back on and can hear the cpu fan kick on in high gear for a while then gradually slow down - interestingly it it does not kick in like that during the overheating after wake.

So... what would cause the cpu fan to fail to compensate for overheating ONLY after waking from sleep mode?!

Computer Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 64bit with SP1
ATI Radeon HD 5770

A:CPU overheating on wake from sleep mode

Hi

Before replacing the fan, look at the manual for your motherboard and see if it has special BIOS settings for the CPU fan. If it does, then you might find a solution there. For example, some motherboards have a feature for setting the CPU fan to quiet mode and I could see this causing a problem with a fan that is sticking slightly and gets a bigger kick of voltage when booting than it does when waking from sleep.

If you are uncomfortable with looking at your BIOS settings, I can tell you how to proceed safely.

Have you looked at the fan? If it has a wire or cable rubbing against it or has a lot of dust on it, that may cause it to be harder to start spinning when waking than when normally booting (the initial surge of voltage can be different).

If you open it up to look at the fan, be sure to turn it off, unplug it from the wall, push the power button to make sure any residual power is drained, touch the metal casing first (in case you have static electricity built up in your body) and use a pen or pencil to see how easily the fan spins.

Hey working on A Dell Inspiron 530S Desktop with Vista Home Premium SP2, just did a reinstall all seemed to be well until i try to put it in sleep mode.. When i do, it goes to somewhat sleep, by way of somewhat I mean the monitor goes off, yet the fans still whistle and the drives keep going.. Then finally they cease and the power button blinks to notify me i;m in sleep mode.. I then try to click mouse, or push key on keyboard to wake it up, absolutely no response.. I then have to power it down by way of holding power button in.. when it finally goes off, I turn back on and it seems like it's waking from hibernation mode not sleep.. What I mean is the task bar slowly appears, then some Desktop icons, all very slowly, it takes full minute to get entire desktop back, and 3 minutes overall for it to function properly. Says drivers are all up to date but I don't really trust that.. I reset all power options to balanced (thats what they were anyway) And didn't seem to be any BIOS setting to change (reset them too) could there be a driver or program confliction somewhere? This is Weird.. thanks in advance

I have tried several different settings and cannot get my monitor to wake up after sleeping for several hours. I have tried hybrid on and off. I have changed various settings in BIOS. I have made sure USB never turns off. I have changed the settings related to PCIe in sleep mode... Nothing works. I have a ABIT IP35Pro Board with an Sapphire 3850 Video card.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Monitor won't wake from Sleep Mode

Have you tried moving the mouse.
Have you tried turning the monitor off then on.
Is it on the same bit of software.
List your total spec and what software you are running.
Try running in safe mode to see if that changes the problem.

I just bought a brand new system and everything was working fine.
I put into sleep mode and the computer went to sleep/died.
I can not wake up computer no matter what I have tried.
I have tried disconecting all the power over and over
Off on buttons don't work, mouse or keyboard don't work, monitor doesn't work.
It's like it went into a black hole of hybirnation and nothing I try will get the computer to power on now so I can get it out of sleep mode.
Everythings dead.
I pluged in my old system and started using it again because my new system I just paid $ 2500 for is useless.
Any suggestions out there?

Hello Garbob, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It sounds like your BIOS has the wrong sleep state set in it. You can look at STEP THREE in the tutorial below to help change it, or resetting the BIOS back to default settings may help.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hope this helps,

New to this forum posted my specs while registering so I assume whoever wants to help me can access my profile and view them,

I recently built my PC without to much problem, only little bug I have is the sata3 HDD connected with a 6gbs transfer sata cable in a sata3 port is only a 3gbs transfer speed. Although my real concern is that twice after awaking from sleep mode my PC just freezes and enters BSOD, I haven't used the PC much since I built it mainly because I live in 2 different homes and currently not at the home with my new comp, but I believe that if it happened twice out of a possible 9-10 sleep mode wake ups its going to keep happening until I find a fix.

I read this could revolve around driver issues for vista so just for additional info I updated the graphics driver and all the asus drivers using the cd that comes with the MOBO.

looking forward for ideas thank you
