Lenovo Ideapad 710s - not shutting down properly?

Q: Lenovo Ideapad 710s - not shutting down properly?

I just bought Lenovo Ideapad 710s last week, 5th June 2016 to be exact.I noticed that after I shut down the laptop, eventhough the screen is off, the USB-wired mouse is still lited. There's no light on the keyboards, nor the power signal light. What could be the problem here?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!

Okay so I've had this computer less than 3 months and it's given me nothing but problems. Now it refuses to even turn on. The power LED turns on but the screen remains blank. This is an non removal battery type before anyone says remove the battery and use the adapter. I've drained the battery which has worked before but this time when I try to charge it the orange battery LED blinks three times. And still nothing on the screen. Any Lenovo stores are quite far away. Anyone knows what's going on?

Hi  I am thinking of purchasing a 13" Lenovo ideapad 710s ($1199 model) over a MacBook air. I have been using a macbook air for several years and recently thought of getting a new laptop. Lenovo's 710s seems to be quite good on paper (except the battery life), but I couldnt find any reviews online which can tell me if the laptop is as good as Lenovo projects it to be. If anyone has bought/used Lenovo 710s, can  you guys chime in and let me know if this laptop came on par with your expectations (esp. the battery life)? Thanks

Hi there, First of all, please excuse my bad english. I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 710S Plus 13 IKB. Enjoyed it since yesterday as it became to shut down randomly. Sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 20 minutes. I noticed it only happens when it's running on battery.I've read other threads but none of them helped me out. Already tried to turn off fast boot, nothing changed. Also tried to update BIOS but I got an error message saying I'm not plugged in on AC (even if I am). This situation is really getting me crazy, my laptop is only 1 month old. Thanks for your help.

Dear Lenovo Community, I've just bought my Lenovo Ideapad 710S two days ago. Bought the highest-end configuration with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIE SSD. I got to say I'm absolutely in love with the form factor and its performance. I decided upon this laptop mainly because of its portability and the combination of 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD at less than $2k. DesignAt 1.1kg, it is really light - I can hold in up effortlessly with one arm. At home, I use a Dell monitor (U2715H) which is almost borderless; looking at 710S's edge, it is equally slim and is key to making it look stylish. The matte screen display has very crisp, clear text and is very comfortable to look at. PerformancePerformance wise, there is no complain. It lives up to what it's spec-ed on paper. Every application and operation (e.g. startup, shutdown, boot from sleep) loads at breakneck speeds thanks to its PCIE SSD. I've yet to try running more intensive software e.g. the Adobe suite but at this rate, it looks promising thus far. AccuType KeyboardAt first, I thought the flat keys have really little travel to bottom-out but as I spend more time typing on it, I gradually grew to like the keyboard. It's well spaced-out, typing on it can be very accurate. Key travel is reasonable for faster typists. Only thing is the placement of backspace, enter and shift button at the right side needs some extra time to get used to it as I find they placed more to the right than it is on comm... Read more

Hi, since I got my Ideapad 710s everything has been running smoothly, however, in the last month or so whenever I load something the mouse cursor disapears. If I go into settings and set the mouse pointer again it will appear as normal when something is loading, but within five minutes will go back to disappearing.  Another problem that started slighlty before that was that the night light (blue light filter) setting refused to turn off between 9pm and 6am, even when it said it was turned off. Now it is turned off, but won't turn on.  In general there has been lots of little settings malfunctions just like this, which while not laptop breaking, are increasingly annoying.  Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I have recently purchased brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 710S-13IKB. It had Windows preinstalled. The problem is that there is no sound from the speakers, headset works fine. I have tried everything, even reinstalling Windows. Downloaded both drivers via Realtek, Lenovo official website, via Windows Device Manager. When something plays, the speakers indicator shows as on 'sound' screenshot attached. I am really lost here, can anyone please give soem advise. I read on some forums that there might be some conflict between Microsoft and Realtek driver versions. Perhaps, the directory to where the drivers are isntalled is not proper. Does anyone has any advice on this issue. I am ready for a remote session via TeamViewer or Supremo if possible as well. Best Regards, Dmitri

Hi there, Frevans                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just to verify, did you encounter this issue the first time you setup the PC or you just encountered this lately?

If it's just lately, can you try one of the following?

Disable "hide pointer while typing" under Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse > Pointer Options Tab and enable "Show location of pointer when i press CTRL key"
  - Link to picture

Uninstall the Touchpad Driver (ELAN or Synaptics) under Control Panel > Programs and reboot. Upon logging back in, Windows will use a generic touchpad driver. Try to observe the mouse pointer behavior and observe (you can always re-install the touchpad driver by navigating to D:\Drivers\Touchpad or by downloading the driver from the lenovo website).

Boot in Safe Mode with Networkingand observe the mouse pointer behavior. If all goes well, perform a clean boot and observe. If same problem, perform a System Restorein safe mode to undo any possible updates that was installed on the system (ensure that you make a backup copy of your files).

Update us how it goes.

Today, I updated my Realtek Audio Driver to version 6.0.1.7831 (dated 7/21/2016). After installation, I immediately realized that the taskbar icon changed from Dolby to Realtek default icon:? -> ? Next, I went to Programs and Features and found out that "Dolby Audio X2 Windows APP" disappeared from the list. Originally, both of these Dolby programs came with the laptop:? After the update, I was only left with this:? The impact of this is that I can no longer toggle the different sound features provided by the Dolby App. I contacted Lenovo via online chat support but the personnel insists Dolby is not a supported program by Lenovo without giving me a valid solution or answer. Did Lenovo omit Dolby App in the latest Audio Driver by mistake? Or did Lenovo intentionally removed it due to the vulnerability explained here: "Dolby Audio X2 (DAX2) privilege escalation" https://support.lenovo.com/sg/en/product_security/len_4884#/IdeaPad. If anybody is facing the same issue / has any solutions / answers, kindly leave a comment below. My problem consists of the following: - When I turn on the computer the mouse pointer behaves correctly.- After a few minutes of use, when I give the order to open a web in chrome (for example) the image of the pointer starts to look less sharp, but still works correctly.- The biggest problem comes a few minutes later when it starts to move each time it is loading something, and it starts to appear and disappear. Then using the PC is a nightmare.  I have updated all the drivers and I have even made a complete format but the problem continues.Any solution or someone who has the same problem?I'm desperate. Hi everyone! I purchased a 520-15IKB roughly a month ago. I've been really satisfied with it so far but for some reason it does not restart. I've tried using the CMD commands to restart and obviously the restart option from the start menu but it shuts down instead of restarting. This has resulted in the "restart to complete update" notifications not going away. It's been this way out of the box. It also keeps freezing while gaming and the only way to recover it was to force a shutdown by long-pressing the power key. Are any of these known issues? Any fixes?

So I've had my Lenovo laptop for about a year now, I believe the warranty on it is expired now. I don't want to spend money on what I think is a simple repair. When I was trying to clear my storage I fell asleep and my laptop died, it didn't get to properly clear the storage and shut down. Now whenever I try to load up my laptop, this message appears  (If you can't read the picture; The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart installation.) When I click OK, it loads and then the same message appears again. It's an endless loop. I looked up different videos telling me to fix this, I should disassemble the laptop, take out the battery, and hold the power button down for about 30 seconds. I wouldn't mind trying this approach, but I can't find a disassembly video specifically for my laptop and I don't want to damage even further or beyond repair. If that's what I need to do, then getting help here with it would be great. Then I tried opening the boot menu, I did this by pressing FN and F12 when turning on the computer. I wanted to try and run a diagnostics test to try and see what was wrong, but it only gave me these options and couldn't figure out how. I pressed enter on both of these options to see if it would fix this issue, nothing happened as far as I could tell.  I moved on from that to the InsydeH20 Setup Ut... Read more

Hello, i received a Lenovo Ideapad 305 computer on 9th of March 2017. Immediately after that day, computer showed signs of weird behaviour. It shut down instead of going to Sleep Mode when attempting to use that command. I swear i checked out the battery settings and it seems that computer shuts down even when manually choosing sleep mode. Last night i also came across a problem when computer restarted instead of shutting down. I tried installing all the possible updates, but it didn't fix the issue. At the very beginning Sleep Mode actually worked fine but something must have corrupted it. Power Troubleshooting didn't provide any results. The big programs i have installed are Comodo Antivirus, Sony Vegas and Adobe Photoshop. I have removed some of Lenovo's own installed minor software because i found them useless. There are still some updates that Windows wants to install but i'm being skeptical if they will fix the issue. Information:Windows 10 HomeIntel Core i7-5500 U CPU @ 2.40 GHZRAM: 8,00 Gb

Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

Less than a month ago I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad 710s, today it suddenly turned off even though it's battery was at 64%. When I plug in the charger, the light that shows it is charging is on, so the charger is working.I just can't turn on my computer at all. I don't know if this information is needed, but I have used it almost every day, around 6 hours every day I've used it (I'm using it for school only). If I plug in power cable, no one led is on, and also nothing happens. I cannot turn it on...  The charger should be ok, at least, the voltage inside of laptop is ok. If you just formatted the C:\ partition, you should still be able to recover using the NOVO button (see page 21 of the user manual) Novo Menu: ? Shut down the computer (press and hold the power button until it powers off) and wait at least five seconds.Press the Novo button using a paper clip.   The NOVO button is just forward of the USB port on the left side of the laptop (see page 6 of the user manual) to turn on the laptop and open the Novo MenuSelect System Recovery >> Troubleshoot >> Reset this PCIf successful, it will return your laptop to the factory condition just as it was when you bought the laptop. If you somehow deleted all the partitions, then you will have to do a clean install of Windows 10 either using recovery media obtained from Lenovo support for a small fee (recommended since it will restore its factory recovery/driver partitions etc.), or do a clean install of Windows 10 using the instructions from Microsoft found here. Good Luck,
