Activating Windows 7 in October

Q: Activating Windows 7 in October

I currently have the 64-bit version of the Windows 7 RC installed on my desktop. I am very happy with my current build and hope to keep it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to just activate my copy (legally, i don't mind paying) or something similarly simple to maintain my current build while making it a full install.

Any input would be very useful.

Preferred Solution: Activating Windows 7 in October

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

if i open my docs on the desk top as of today all my files and folders have suddenly returned to 21st october, the date i transferred files to this new computer.
All changes to folders and their contents, and files since are not to be found.

another strange symptom, possibly related... if i create a file in a folder (for example a drag and drop copy), and then open say, microsoft frontpage, frontpage cannot see the new file, however many times i reopen the program or however many new files i create.
looking around i have now just found all the documents with the correct dates etc via the path C:\Documents and Settings\andy\Mes documents

any ideas what has happened, how to stop it happening again?

need help!

If you're using Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit and have it configured with the POSReady registry tweak so it can continue to receive security updates through April 2019, a total of 9 security updates for October 2018 are available at the Microsoft Update Catalog site.

Download and save all 9 security updates, then install them in order by KB number.

Do NOT restart your computer until all 9 security updates have been installed.

A very simple question please.
Considering the changes for WU coming shortly, and I assume the three categories of updates (important, recommended, optional) no longer exist or apply, and that we either install the Update rollup they send or not, should the Settings be adjusted to "Install updates automatically"?  Currently, I have "check for updates but let me choose.....".  Will any of the Settings make a difference or will the October Update just get downloaded and installed regardless of Settings - unless of course WU was turned off.
I don't intend to turn WU off, but my HP laptop has gotten cranky in its old age, and I haven't had the ability to "restore to an earlier time" and some other defects for many months (and do not want to attempt repair of System Restore again right now).  Would it be best to wait and see how the October rollup affects other older laptops or just install what MS sends because it includes the security update?
I currently have 23 optional updates waiting to be downloaded and installed.  I'd prefer not to do that.
Thanks for some guidelines.

A:Windows Update settings for October

If you have check for updates but let me choose when to install them you will still get a notification of the rollup package and you will have the option to install or not. If you avoided any important updates in the past those updates will be installed in the next rollup. Microsoft will be offering monthly security only rollups via the Windows Update Catalog site which can only be accessed via IE. These will still be rollups so you will have to update all the monthly security updates or none.

Before upgrading always checked if a patch causes problems, because sometimes I read that there was one and then a few days later was replaced or was not marked.

I'm thinking to download the latest updates automatically from last month (and some other more before) but I would like for you if so far everything is fine.

These three are not marked for download :

- KB2862330
- KB2836942 - Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5.1(June)
- KB2836939 - Microsoft.NET Framework 4 (June)

Curious what the last two above, I have two with the same name and marked(Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5.1 / 4) but the first is September(KB2836942) and the second is October(KB2836939).

The last to update, according to history, was until August. So I'm surprised that these two updates are unchecked (June).

Despite its recent re-release, I'm not seeing the Windows 10 October update available for my X1 Yoga (2nd Gen), even when manually checking for updates in Windows. I have the correct (updated) Intel display drivers installed and according to what I've read here, this would likely be the only compatibility issue that would prevent it from being available. Has anyone here succesfully installed the October Update (1809)? Or at least been notified of its availability? Curious as to whether there are potential compatibility issues preventing it from being available or if its just MS staging.

A:According to Sony, Vaio owners shouldn't upgrade to Windows 10 until October

So I tried the upgrade install on my Vaio last night the whole process completed smoothy and win 10 was working however I ran some issues. The Core i5 which run at 2.53Ghz would not drop to the lower multipliers and down clock it would only hit 2Ghz where as on win 7 it will drop to sub 2ghz speeds at idle. I also saw High Cpu load from the Intel rst drivers. This machine has both Intel gpu an a Nvidia gpu.

I couldn't get the NV gpu working at all intel one was fine.

So ya this vaio isn't ready for windows 10 I restore back to 7 last night.

What is BS about this is fine don't provide drivers but remove your stupid driver locks so I can go to NV's site or AMD and install their drivers. Dropping support and not allowing us to try custom drivers or modified drivers is a big deal, if they are not supporting it open up the platform.

I loaded IE11 preview a few days ago and it has worked flawlessly. Today I ran Windows Update and after this IE11 would not open - I just got an error message saying IE could not operate. It took a number of closing of the error dialogue box to get the error boxes tto stop appearing. I have gone back to IE10 and have no problems again. I tried reinstalling 11 and it worked fine again - until I ran Windows Update again same problem happened. I am sure there is some conflict with an update or more - KB2879017 looks a likely culprit.

I am noticing a interesting trend with machines in my environment. I am using SCCM 2012 R2 to push updates to my desktops. All of my desktops are Win 7 Enterprise x64. Since the inception of the Update Rollups in October half of my desktops cannot
install these updates.

The updates install but when the machine reboots it starts reverting changes and reboots several times and the updates fail to install. I have attempted to remedy this by running the WURT and SURT tools, sfcscannow, stopping wuauclt and renaming the softwaredistrobution
folder.  I also tried to download the patch locally and install. None of these have worked.

I have spent over 20 hours trying to figure out the problem and I am in need of help. This is my first post so please be kind. I can attach my CBS logs and WindowsUpdate logs if needed. I can't figure out how to that in this OP.

My Lenovo Y700 has been suffering from an issue since October of 2016, one which I imagine many people on this forum (or at least those of you who have also purchased this laptop model) are aware of. The issue itself wouldn't bother me, if it wasn't for Lenovo's gross negligence and seeming apathy towards customers with the issue. Here is the story behind my infuriation:I bought the Lenovo Y700-15ACZ laptop back in February from my local Best Buy, at the cost of nearly 900USD (including tax), to replace my old Dell laptop, and up until late October I was relatively satisfied with the purchase. Then Windows sent out their latest updates for the AMD graphics driver. At this time, I had no idea what was going on, so I brought the laptop to Geek Squad, at the same Best Buy from which I bought the computer. They explained to me that the issue was caused by an incompatibility between the built-in motherboard graphics card and the AMD video card, a result of the most recent graphics update at the time. So, I had them roll back the computer to before the update in question was released, and disable all automatic updates. It's a good temporary solution, but as many of us probably know, disabling updates means that security updates, as well as graphics updates, will not install, thus putting my computer at an increased risk of malware infection. So, after three months of leaving my Lenovo update-less, I decided that I've tempted fate long enough, and called Geek Squad to arrange an app... Read more

I have problem , I have 2 copies of Windows XP and recently have tried to update my Windows ME computer to XP I basically was having trouble with ME and wanted to have all three PCs on the same network using the same OS.

After wasting so many hours trying to get into Dos in Windows ME, I finally figured out how to format it and now I have installed Windows Xp. Everything went pretty smooth until I get to the Activation Screen.

I know have 30 days but I want to have this thing working now once and for all. I have tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system rejects the product key. I tried activating over the net and they tell me the same thing.

The product Key came with the disc. I am in the process of calling Microsoft but I was wondering if anyone knew what could be the problem here?

A:Activating Windows Xp

Do I understand that you have 2 copies of XP, but they are installed on 3 PC's?

Can't do that, every PC must have it's own licenced copy. It cannot be installed on more than one PC (or it fails activation).

However that may not be what you actually mean, it's hard to interpret exactly.

But if its a new, unused copy of XP that is failing activation then a phone call is needed.

If you want to downgrade to Windows 8.0. then no, the 8.1 key will not work.

Unless there is compelling evidence that the 8.0 drivers work better, perhaps it would be better try re-installing various driver versions, if not the the OS itself.
