Possible driver issues after windows 10 update

Q: Possible driver issues after windows 10 update

I am pretty sure I should have 5 speakers but it sounds like only 2 of them are working. The front ones. I am seeing this in device manager. When I right click and go to properties on any of the three I get this. I down loaded the orginal windows 7 drivers and now it seems to be coming from more than 2 speakers. However I still have 3 that seem to have issues?! Thanks for any feedback!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought an alienware laptop 4 months, about 2k I thought was well spent. The amount of problems is insane. The first month the camera stopped working. The second month the drivers are having issues that I cant seem to fix for the life of me. 3rd month I update to windows 8.1 and avast no longer works properly... But thats only part of the issue. It's a gaming laptop and I can no longer play games without recieving the same BSOD which ironically is yellow with a sad face. "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". I can't play most of my games, like warframe or saints row without it crashing in the first 2 minutes of gameplay.
At the same time... I cant connect any type of smart device to my laptop. Zune... Iphone... External Hard Drive. It disconnects an reconnects about every 2 seconds.
ive included a speccy if that will help. Any help I can get to fixing these problems would be greatly appreciated.

After upgrading the OS to Windows (10.0.14393), Conexant driver failed. No Device Installed. Also in Device Manager, Intel High Definition Audio is missing a driver. Can't find a copy (bundeled with another driver...video maybe). Anyway, fixed the Conexant driver problem by totally uninstalling the Conexant ISST Audio application and re-installing. My only problem now is that audio does not go out to a HDTV plugged into the HDMI port. Video goes well, but no sound. HDMI does not show in Audio Devices as well. Any ideas? HDMI port tied to the Intel High Definition Audio device? The Device ID's for the Intel HD Audio device are: INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2809&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2809&SUBSYS_80860101 Thanks Ed ski

A:Audio Driver issues after Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Hi: Yes, that is the Intel HD audio device that needs the Intel graphics driver reinstalled. I suggest this option to install the driver since sometimes simply reinstalling the Intel graphics driver doesn't work. Download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file on the list is for 64 bit. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-Zip, download and save, but do not run this Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page. This package provides the Intel video drivers, control panel and display audio driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75984.exe After you download the graphics driver file, right click on it and select 7-zip from the list. Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp75984). When that is done, go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HDMI audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC, and you should be able to get both audio and video from the HDMI connection.

Happy holidays, all -I recently bought my girlfriend a Yoga 720 when they went on sale at Best Buy. She loves it, but the touch screen doesn't work at all. Per a few hours of research, I've discovered this is an issue that has been documented not only in this forum, but on Reddit and elsewhere, too:https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/73su16/lenovo_is_ignoring_a_big_issue_with_yoga720_13/https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-touch/lenovo-yoga-720-touch-screen-driv...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-720-Touchscreen-not-working/td-p/3880...It seems the Windows Creators Update messes with the Wacom driver. I can't seem to get it working. I've tried updating drivers from Lenovo and Wacom along with several other solutions. In the device manager, the Wacom Device has an alert on it reading "This device cannot start. Code 10. STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR." Has anyone found a better fix for this, yet? It seems insane Lenovo hasn't addressed it, and more so, tells users its a hardware problem when it clearly is not. Thank you for any help you can provide. I'm losing my mind trying to fix it and would hate to bring the laptop back!

First, make sure you have the latest drivers from the Asus site. Then try installing the updates one at a time. If one fails, skip it and go to the next. Once you get the those installed on the first pass, go back and try the ones that failed.

Hi there everyone,

This morning, I got an update notification from nVidia Experience that a new driver was available, so I installed and rebooted. On reboot, It flashed the MOBO splashscreen, then paused at the drive detection for over a couple minutes. I thought it was frozen, so I shutdown and restarted and it went through the splash screen and hung at the drive detection again. I waited a bit, then hit "Any key" and it looped once more to the splash screen, only this time, the screen appeared in incremental bands, from top to bottom over the course of maybe 10 seconds, as if the computer was lagging from a resource intensive process, then went to drive detection for maybe 10 seconds then booted into Windows. I let it settle down then rebooted again. This time, everything went as expected, aside from it sitting at the drive detection for longer than normal(about 10 seconds again).

I'm just curious if there's something the driver update could do to the system that would cause something like this. Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

A:Could a video driver update cause boot issues?

My guess; which is the biggest mistake anyone can make, is not letting the process finish and then being impatient by forcing a restart. This restart before the reboot finished is what caused the issue you experienced.

After installing a new sound driver from Dell yesterday, I can't play any sort of sounds in media players. System sounds are still working fine, as well as youtube etc. However, windows media player, VLC, quicktime and spotify cannot play sound files.

WMP:

Web help button sends me here: Windows Media Player error C00D11B1 (None of it fixed the issue.)

Spotify says something about a missing audio driver.

Anyway, so I tried rebooting, rolling back the driver, installing an HD audio driver from realtek themselves. None of these things work.

When a system sound plays, the bar next to "speakers" goes up, but when playing music nothing shows.

I've also tried fiddling with the device settings in media player, to no avail.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not very computer inclined, because I'm still learning, but my problems is that when I went out and bought myself Neverwinter Nights(Ask if you want the specs)
My computer had a horrible time running it however, the game is old and isn't something that should lag. So I went and talked to Atari, and they said it was a problem with my Direct3D, which I went into the DirectX Dignostics and checked. I don't trust companies, they make mistakes. So Then I went and got the update for DirectX making it Vers. 9.0
Then after realizing that my Driver should be updated to work with it, I did so, I'm not sure if it was correctly done, but chances are it was.
Now a larger problem has arisen, I can no longer do anything with my display or my computer will reset itself, for example, trying to run a full screan program, or even changing the size of my desktop. It's fusterating me now and I'd like assistance, can you help?

--My computer specs
AMD Sempron 2200, 1.45Ghz
512Mb Of RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 pro, 128mb
(Anything else that matters, ask?)

Update!
I have gotten my computer to stop shutting down when the video changes now, but I still have problems with DirectX.

A:Issues With DirectX(Direct3D)And Driver update.

How recent are your system & video card drivers?

It is my guess that if you don't have recent ATI Catalyst drivers (for your Radeon 9000) to "play nice" with DirectX v9, that may be the issue. Go to http://www.ati.com and download the latest Catalyst drivers, if you haven't already.

Another consideration is your operating system: If you are running anything besides Windows XP or 2000, I would say that is also a likely culprit. If it is Win 98 or ME, I would highly recommend an upgrade, or preferably, a clean install to XP. If it's 2000 or XP, make sure you have the most recent Service Pack installed. I'm guessing that it is not XP Service Pack 2, or it would have already had DirectX 9.0c installed.

Look into both of those items and you should be able to fix your video issues.

I have a "GeForce FX 5200 Ultra".
My problem is two fold.....

First: a "blurry" screen at first "cold" boot..... Looks all pixelated, (like blurry), but only at a first boot. If say the comp has been off for several hours or over night..... wait for about 5 min and reboot all is fine, just annoying to reboot is all.

Second: Major issue.... I want to update my drivers, BUT, when I go to newer drivers my graphically intense games seem to "studder" or "skip".

I have driver version 4.3.5.1 the newest I just tried is 6.1.7.7 also tried 5.6.6.4 and 5.3.0.3 <---same results ,fixes the boot thing (see above) but the games suffer.
I gave "Need for Speed Underground" a test and it would "skip/ jump", very quickly, (very annoying)

Hi,
I really appreciate the awesome people here at bleepingcomputer. I am at wits end with the constant BSOD'S. All my issues seem to stem from a few days in December after my computer automatically installed a few MS updates, an Adobe update and an AMD driver update all basically on the same day. I noticed unusual behavior in early January. A strange Apple update on my Dell on my birthday, then BSOD's after updated drivers. Blue screen crashes with updating Windows Defender virus definitions and MS updates were failing a lot. That was just the beginning...Over and over, I tried to update the driver, or just let my default driver run, nothing worked. I disabled automatic update and install as that was not working and disabled Defender and Malwarebytes as both caused crashs in the past few months and I am beginning to hate them, after seeing 20 or so since Christmas. I googled the situation for a few months and found a few topics related to 4 or 5 of my issues concerning " a patch for a patch to a patch" KB3004394

A patch for that patch came out 2 days later. I saw the same patch, maybe revised, had downloaded and installed on my computer February 24th. Anyway, I'm basically clueless. Only the in last few days have I been able to update the Display Driver, after trying for nearly a month.

Yesterday I was notified by HP Support Assistant that there was an "important" new printer driver update for my HP printer. I installed it and immediately the following issue started: The display on my laptop screen is out of position - it is shifted about an inch to the left and down, so there is an inch-wide black bar down the right side of the screen, and the start button and task bar are off the bottom of the screen.

I've tried everything I can find ... display settings, screen resolution, graphics card settings, etc. I restored to a system restore point created just before the software update, but it didn't solve the issue. I contacted HP support by phone, but as the PC and printer are both out of warranty, they were unable to help without a charge. They helped me uninstall and reinstall the printer driver, but it did not solve the issue.

Meanwhile, I've set the screen resolution to a lower setting and moved the task bar to the left so I can see the entire screen image, even if it is not using the full screen.

The computer is an HP Pavilion dv6-2150us laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with SP1. The printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8500a.

Any suggestions?

The latest update provided for many intel HD graphics drivers, including the hd4600 v20.19.15.4531, causes issues for anyone that uses Hyper-V.
On my XPS 9530, the driver update causes the following issues:

Not able to use external monitor
Creates multiple hidden monitors listed as Generic non-PNP
General performance is poor and laggy

The only option for now seems to be rolling back to previous driver that doesn't include fixes to help with scaling across multiple displays.
Is Dell aware of the issue?  The driver above was pushed out by Dell.  I would assume testing new drivers pushed out would include a system with Hyper-V enabled as many use this Windows Feature.
The issue has been known at Intel for quite some time however no word of an update yet.  See:

Unfortunately installing the driver update for display adapters from the lenovo support page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/se/de/downloads/ds037642) didn't work. Once I got a BSOD after rebooting and the other time the driver versions just stayed the same without change. Situations when I feel that something is wrong with the drivers are for instance when I want to launch a game. After launching the game,  the screen turns immediately black and I fall back to the desktop. When launching another game, the screen just flickers black and white.  I would be grateful if somebody could help me with that matter since after hours of research I haven't been able to solve the problem myself.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Cheers,Simon

Hi, and thanks in advance...

Much of this is a repeat to other threads, until the graphic driver problem at the end...

(I also have an Ubuntu partition.)

I'd left my mp3 player plugged in overnight + an Asus Xonar DAC in a usb hub, when Windows wanted to do an update and conflict over drivers ensued. Strange, because I've selected for notification before updating. Also, have not been successful installing any new updates since the end of May. Was seemingly a common problem, I checked into it, too busy/lazy to pursue and succeed. This part is confusing...?

Woke up to blasting fans and unplugged everything peripheral. First, tried setting back to restore points prior to that night - twice. Could restart in Safe Mode and with networking. Then, could restart normally - but, shutdowns after 20 minutes or so.

Got crash logs, saw driver conflicts (not found) - saved.

Came here, read threads, did restart at Last Known Good Configuration. Restart - Nvidia Geforce driver not found. Went to Asus site, downloaded and installed driver (not lastest version, but last approved version and not much later than one that was installed).

It then went into a system cycled start/restart/etc. attempting to find driver, fix itself - forced to do shutdown to stop it.

Restarted this morning in Safe Mode, followed your instructions for posting. It's been running in safe mode for about 20 minutes now.

I'm a little confused by one of my update options. I was under the impression that windows 7 was using wddm 1.1, and that the wddm 1.0 drivers have been available for quite some time. I checked and the driver I have is wddm 1.0, released 10/28/2008, version number 8.15.10.1590. So why am I being given the option to update to 'pre-release wddm 1.0'? I tried to get more information to check the version number, but I am just redirected to Winqual Help , which doesn't help me any.

I'd like to test out the wddm 1.1 drivers, and I've read that they're available for 7, but I don't think that these are those drivers, unless there is a typo in the driver title.

yes thats right....

wddm is just a driver model...
its up to the manufacture (here intel) to release wddm 1.1 driver
so until then (most likely they wont) they have to release a wddm 1.1

Windows Display Driver Model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
that should be a good read....

what they mean pre-release means that these drivers are beta drivers (there is a difference between pre-release drivers and pre-release wddm 1.1 drivers)

Windows Update comments & questions no Window update issues

Why are windows update so huge? On mine, I noticed 104.7 mb for required security updates.

I also noticed some other optional updates for windows 7, I am ed to see those with Windows 7 mainstream supported ended. I thought Microsoft Security essential would be the only one shown in the Optional updates and nothing else. I know windows 7 gets security updates till 2020.

A:Windows Update comments & questions no Window update issues

Well... Better not complain about it, now mainstream support has ended.

I'm at near 1Gb of Optional updates & Hotfixes since i installed SP1, and for security updates i do not find those in excess.

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

System specs:
Processor: Intel 2500K Core Duo Unleashed
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-p67A-UD3P

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

I have a P51 20HH and it refuses to update to Windows 10 1903 due to a complaint of an old version of the Intel RST driver.  I tried following all the instructions to update the driver at both the Intel site, and the official RST driver here on the Lenovo site for P51 downloads.  None actually did anything.  They appeared to work, but actually didn't do anything because the driver update software didn't see any hardware to update.  I turned on debug output on the driver update script and it basically said nothing was applied since there was nothing to do. In my case with the P51 20HH, the driver files are all there but there is zero evidence (Device Manger, etc) that any of them are in use.  I don't have Optane, RAID, etc.  Microsoft update sees the driver as an old version so it won't do the Windows update.  Meanwhile, the Intel driver install packages don't see the driver as usable, so it won't apply the update!  It is a lock out.  So, my solution for the P51 20HH was to rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\iaStorA.sys to something else.   Proceed with caution with this solution, because if your machine is really using RST, this could cause your storage to become inaccessable, which might put you in a bad boot loop and require a BIOS boot to recovery media.  You should absolutely verify that Device Manager (Storage controllers) does not list anything Intel.  Renaming the driver requires admin priv... I noticed my X1E2 started changing the refresh rate back and fort between 48 and 60Hz when plugged/unplugged, despite how I set it in Intel Graphics Control Panel. I checked Intel graphics driver version and it says 26.10.100.7529 in both Device Manager and IGCP. However, both Lenovo System Update and Lenovo drivers page (via Service bridge) tell me that I need to install driver 26.10.100.7529. I tried doing it both ways, but after the reboot I'm still prompted to update to 26.10.100.7529. This is labeled as a critical update. I manually downloaded the driver and installed it. Rebooted the laptop and still get the same notification. I am not sure what system thinks is installed on it. I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas? I'm just trying to stop the refresh rate from switching when I unplug the laptop. Thanks.

Recently Windows updated my Intel HD Graphics 630 driver. A few days later the same driver was released on Dell's driver support page.
Is there any correlation between Windows Update and Dell's drivers? Who does update the drivers Microsoft themselves or Dell needs to release the driver to Microsoft?
As this is the first time when Windows updated the driver is this how the Intel HD Graphics drivers are to be kept up-to-date via Windows Update?

A:Windows Update vs Dell Update - Intel HD Graphics 530/630 Driver

ZINGAM,
Referring to the Intel HD graphics driver.
Windows gets code from Intel for the driver and they will implement it in the OS. Dell also gets code from Intel and will release it. Also, Intel will post the driver on their site to download. You can uninstall the Microsoft driver if you choose and install the Dell update driver.

Windows Update is not telling me I need or can update my Wireless networking, but Intel's Update Driver Utility says I should and is offering the update. How would you recommend I proceed?

A:Should I trust Intel's Driver Update utility or Windows Update?

G'day Rolo,

The difference between the two drivers is that the Windows one is digital signed/tested by Microsoft. I would say that unless the Intel one delivers more benefit than the Windows one, and everything works as expected, then there is no need to update.

You often see this with graphics card drivers too, for example.

On Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511, Build 10586, I've hidden troublesome Nvidia driver updates, using the wushowhide troubleshooter package for Windows 10.

Even with the updates hidden, the next time an update check/cycle is triggered, the Nvidia driver updates are detected and installed. Upon rebooting normally after the driver updates are installed, I see a Windows STOP error (blue screen of death) shortly after signing on Windows.

I can remove the driver updates by uninstalling the associated applications/packages through the Programs and Features control panel. I've also tried to first remove the display adapter in Device Manager, selecting the option to Delete the driver software for this device then removing the associated applications/packages in Programs and Features. As long as I do this before rebooting (after the driver updates are installed), I don't see STOP errors and I can then install an older Nvidia driver that works without STOP errors. If the driver update happens to slip in unnoticed, I can reboot in Safe Mode, sign on and proceed with driver application/package removal, then reboot normally.

The latest (but older) Nvidia driver published by Dell for this laptop apparently works fine (no STOP errors):

But the latest "compatible" Nvidia driver from Windows Update produces frustrating STOP errors, resulting in a largely unusable system:

I've also tried this method to blocking/hiding the Nvidia driver updates, but the result is the same: W... Read more

A:Can't hide NVIDIA driver update in Windows Update

I'm cautiously optimistic I found a reasonable workaround (requires the Pro edition of Windows), by using AppLocker to disallow executables signed by Nvidia to run. This way I can leave the Windows Update service enabled and don't need to constantly fight the Nvidia driver updates that I supposedly "hid" using the wushowhide troubleshooter. For anyone else in this or a similar predicament:

Right-click the Start button and click Run, or use the + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command dialog.

In the Open text box, type gpedit and click OK.

Expand Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Application Control Policies > AppLocker > Executable Rules. Right-click in the pane on the right and click Create New Rule... In my case, I created a Publisher rule with action Deny for Everyone, and used an Nvidia driver installer file as the reference file to capture the Publisher information.

Create exceptions as necessary. Since I want the older (already installed) Nvidia driver of my choice to function, I created a wildcard Path exception for the Nvidia Program Files folder.

Hope this is helpful...

Hi,
I see that in the Anniversary I can't no more AVOID the automatic search and download of drivers.

I want to STOP this, I want myself to choice my driver and update them.

I read that in "gpedit.msc" > "Windows Update" > "Do not include drivers with WU" > ENABLE

And I did, BUT, Windows Update still see drivers to update such Intel HD, Touchpad, etc.

Why?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to help my Aunt with an issue with her computer but have ended up at a dead end.

The initial problem was that she was having problems getting updates, including SP1 to install. I have read through various threads on this board to find tips on this and most seemed to suggest that I run the System Upgrade Readiness tool.

But I can't seem to run this either. Every time it runs I get a message asking me to install a hotfix (KB947821). KB947821 just appears to be the SUR tool but when the install process starts it just hangs up and never finishes. Everything I've tried, including running the Microsoft diagnostics tool, can't fix this.

I've seen other threads that suggest resetting windows update using a .bat file. So I tried that as well. Now when I run Windows update it says that I need to "install an update for Windows Update". But when I try this I get an error message saying an error occurred and quoting error code 800736B3.

I've attached what I think is the CheckSUR log file.

I seem now to have run out of ideas. Any help anyone can give would be most appreciated.

A:Issues installing SP1 and Windows Update update

Sometimes you can have better luck by downloading the Service Pack and installing it directly, rather than using Windows Update.

Download: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

For 32 bit Windows, you need the last file listed. 537 MB

For 64 bit Windows, you need the next to last file listed. 903 MB.

Might help, might not.

Ok I been searching around even removed the update files that are downloaded thinking ok maybe its a corrupt file issue which I have had once before and that resolved the issue by doing that and did that twice (with a reboot after each time) and my updates still fail, the code I get is the following, 80070002, no matter what I do (including the microsoft update fixit tool) nothing seems to help, im getting to wits end with it, and I really don't want to contact MS or reinstall windows its self to fix this error....so anyone have any further ideas?
if it helps I also tried whats at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...error-80070002 as well as removing the files from the downloads folder to no avail , I am starting to wonder if this is becoming a hopeless battle!!!
Im in the process of doing whats listed in System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008 and downloading some updater I believe its the fix it tool by MS, which still isn't resolving the issues (it says it does but it hasn't), I am going to reread that main thread on how to do things located here just to be sure I havent missed any thing, anyways here the CBS logs that I pulled as well, not sure if they will help but figured they might help some how...
Anyways, thanks for the help your guys and gals provide

Have you tried stopping the Windows Update service, renaming the Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder to something else, restarting the Windows Update service and then clicking the Check for Updates button again? Works for a similarly-terminal and frustrating error that I have had in the past. The update check takes a while, but it has been effective for me.

A few days ago I updated all my office computers and my home computer with whatever Windows Update was currently feeding. (I do this pretty frequently.)

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on all the machines.

The update list had a few items under Important checked and one item under Important not checked, which was a .NET update. I installed what was checked, rebooted, then installed the .NET update. I did this on all the machines.

Very soon after, two separate issues arose.

The first was that remoting into two different office machines from home with TeamViewer resulted in Windows Explorer crashing on the computer I was remoting into. It happened only after an initial new connection with TeamViewer. It happened often, but not every single time I connected. I kept replicating the issue over a few days. In all instances, after the hang, once I told it to restart Windows Explorer it did so successfully and then worked fine for the rest of the remote session.

The second was that on my home computer, which hadn't exhibited any other issues, my Snagit stopped launching. The icon was there in the notifications tray but clicking on it just made it disappear. I did an uninstall and downloaded the current version, but when I went to run the executable to install it the darndest thing would happen: absolutely nothing.

I emailed Techsmith tech support about the Snagit issue, and here's what they wrote back:

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 Pro machine to a copy of the 64-bit retail build of Windows 8 Pro that I received from my university's DreamSpark account.

I've had the natural slough of problems, all of which I have fixed, except for one regarding the drivers for my GTX 570 graphics card -- no matter what I do, I can't install any drivers for it.

I've tried all of the latest driver versions: 306.23, 306.02, 302.80, and 295.73, but all fail to install the graphics driver and only give the error "NVIDIA Installation Failed".

To fix this problem I have tried:
Uninstalling all Nvidia software, running Driver Fusion, and then cleaning the remnants with CCleaner.
Deleting the C:/NVIDIA folder as well as the NVIDIA Corporation folders in Program Files and Program Files (x86)
Installing the driver file manually through Computer Management (which just says that an error occurred)
Running the driver installer in compatibility mode for Windows 7
Running the Windows XP driver installer in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3
Using the "Clean Install" option in the Nvidia Installer
Only selecting the graphics driver in the Nvidia Installer
Using the built-in drivers for the GTX 570 in Computer Management (only the WDDM 1.2 driver installs, and does not work terribly well)

When you run the nVidia installer click the Custom option for the install process and perform a Clean Install. You will see a check box under the Custom option selection for this. This will remove all old drivers and attempt to install the new ones.

If this still fails, report it to nVidia as they have to still get proper drivers for the RTM version of Windows 8. All versions you have tested are only for the Preview Builds.

Hello,

I formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows 7. I installed all the necessary Drivers. When I open any game (for example, Spider Solitaire) I get a popup stating graphics accelerator is not enabled or the device driver is not updated. TO resolve this I updated my Display Driver. After this windows does not shut down completely. Also, when browsing(both Chrome and IE 11), the page crashes. When I uninstall the driver update, windows shuts down fine and I dont see any page crashes in browser, but I am unable to play games and unable to watch videos (they dont play at all, sometimes I see a lag).
