I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Thinkcentre Tiny has a 5 pin USB 2.0 connection as shown in the attached extract from the harware maintenance manual. Can anyone tell me the pinout for this please as it seems not to be the standard  USB 2.0 pin configuration. I'd like to make use of it for an IR sensor.

As listed in the Platform Specifications, the M720q can be equipped with an optional 2nd HDMI output. I just got an M720q last week and I'm in need of a third digital video output. Sadly this 2nd HMDI connector is nowhere be found online at Lenovo to buy. Not even listed in the part lookup for this model.Where can I get the matching FRU/CRU or even better: buy one?

Okay so I'm stumped with my work terminal.

I'm using a Lenovo M92 (M2121-D5U) and I've been trying for days to extend a third monitor, but have failed at every turn.

I have 3 video ports: VGA, DP (and an exchangable third - currently DP). I have all three monitors plugged in, and using my Intel HD Graphics Options, I can switch between 1/2 - 2/3 - 1/3- etc, etc, but I cannot actually get the display to extend across all three monitors.

My current System Stats:
Windows Version: Pro 10.0.16299
Processor: Intel i5-3470T
BIOS V/Date: 9SKT99AUS 6/30/17
SMBIOS: 2.7
BIOS Mode: Legacy

I've gone into my BIOS and the "Multi-Monitor Support" option in Video doesn't exist, even when I change from AUTO to the Internal Graphics.

Every time that I try to extend the 3rd screen in the native Display Properties I see this error:
The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings.

But like I mentioned, I know that my pc recognizes all three monitors as plugged in, but it won't allow all three to display simultaneously. Does anyone have any thoughts? - I've gone through the Lenovo Updater and even pulled down the BIOS Flash from Lenovo's website, and as far as I can tell I'm up to date on everything.

Mod:  edited Subject line to add Tiny to system type, and to clarify the problem description

A:Thinkcentre M92 Tiny: optional 3rd video port, unable to make all 3 monitors work concurrently

I've gone into my BIOS and the "Multi-Monitor Support" option in Video doesn't exist, even when I change from AUTO to the Internal Graphics.

The "Multi-Monitor Support" is an option in the BIOS for systems that have a PCI slot for a graphics card.  Not applicable for a Tiny system.   That said, having 3 monitors concurrently active with your system (with this Intel processor model) should be possible.

Other things to try:  1. reset the  BIOS settings to the defaults.  2.  do a CMOS reset.  Remove the coin battery, unplug AC power cord, press and hold the power switch for 20 sec multiple times (then, if possible leave overnight), insert battery and power, wait 2 minutes and power-on.

There is no entry in the hardware manager either. I have tried reseating the card itself into the PCIe slot and I have the six pin power connector attached. The fan is running and the card even heats up a very small amount. It's cool to the touch but you can feel a small amount of heat on the pcb. I have also made sure the video card selection in the bios is set to auto and have tried setting it to PEG as well. My bios version is 9SKT98AUS. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I would wait on any optional updates for a bit as some have caused problems recently. I would also check those marked as important and look for KB3022345. If this one is in the batch I would wait on that one as well as it has been the source of some problems.

Possibly post a screenshot of your update list.

I have read up on each one but I jus't don't know if I need them. If it isn't broken why fix it, right?

any opinions?

A:Should I install any of these optional updates?

You know what they say about opinions, don't you? Opinions are like a certain body part. Everybody's got one and sometimes they stink.

A lot of folks on this Forum recommend installing all updates starting with the critical, then the important, recommended, and finally the optionals. Because in theory the updates are supposed to keep a computer safer, running smoother, etc. But as many people have discovered, even a critical update that doesn't install correctly can cause a lot of grief.

So here's my opinion FWIW. Go ahead and install the updates. But ... (1) make sure you have at least a restore point created before hand, or better yet a system image just in case something goes wrong and you need to roll back your machine; and (2) don't try to install them all at once. Keep track of the KB numbers, install maybe 4 - 5 at a time, and reboot after each group is installed. If a problem should occur you'll know which group caused the issue. Uninstall the entire group then install just one update at a time. Reboot after each individual install. If the problem reappears you'll know exactly which update is the offender. Ignore that update and continue with the rest. Yes, it's a lot slower process but I think it offers the best chance for a successful install.

Yes, that's why it's there. HijackThis has not been seriously updated in some time and so is not considered worth the hard drive space, although I suppose that it acts as cheap advertising for Trend Micro.

OK I am a moderate security guy trying to learn more from the REAL Security PROs. I was looking for server 2012 Installing and Configuring study material FOR FREE of course and got in a little to deep. I use Zone alarm firewall Free version and Malwarebytes religiously. As well as MSE as my regular day to day antivirus. Now normally I would not dig as deep as I did this time to get so ROOTKIT infected.
Recently I ran GMER and found a lot of RED in the registry; Files and other important places so I figured I need to reimage my machine......! I also ran Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it came back clean?? I will attach the Kaspersky log below... Now I also use CMS Product Ultimate BounceBack version 11.4.0.29, I believe so I can make all this go away with a backup reimage. But I am pursuing my Server 2012 MCSA and eventually want to become Security focused. So I have all the Rootkit tools and have played with them in the past but in my experience it has always been best to completely reinstall the OS version, Whatever the OS may be at the time, and move forward because otherwise you are never going to completely clean the machine. Not to mention, the time saved by doing this speaks for itself. All that being said I would still like to get a better understanding of this from a Security standpoint..... I'm interested in getting Windows Update to install the Optional Updates - such as Windows Defender Definition Updates - without having to manually select all of the updates.

I've attempted to research the methods, to no avail, although I've concluded that it is probably possible through RegEdit, or through GPEdit, although I'm not sure how to find the specific settings, if they're available.

Im trying to install windows xp professional onto my ibm thinkcentre(mt-m 811324u) machine. I get as far as the following comment. Please wait while setup copies files to windows installation folders, set up copying files.

After that operation is completed the machine reboots, this is where my problem lies, if I do nothing the machine continues to reboot over and over without stopping. If I interrupt the reboot and direct the boot up to drive D where the xp disc is , it merely starts the whole installation process again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I ran a fdisk and format procedure before installing the xp program.

The machine ran well before getting totally corrupted forcing me to clean the slate totally. So I know in the past xp pro was on this machine and running.

Boot off of the XP CD and choose to Delete the Partition, Create a New Partition, and Format the partition NTFS, do not do a Quick Format, this will take longer but will test the integrity of the drive.) Still no symptoms.  Last week I saw the unsupported or unfound file image in the shortcuts next to the start menu, ran MBAM again, found this, deleted. ran other scans in safe mode w/networking, seemed clean.  Ran a scan just because today, no symptoms, 45 objects found.  Deleted again.  ran TDSS, found a partition. Don't know enough to comfortably delete.  Here's the DDS log.  I hope you can help quickly. My boss wants me to call the "computer guy" again, who I have no faith in, because every time we pay him to "fix it" I end up having to come here and get help because he doesn't actually fix anything, but still cashes the checks.
edit:1:46pm EST  Avira just popped up with detections of TR/Trash.Gen and TR/Drop.Softomat.AN in the System Volume Information folder, as both .exe and .dll under real time protection.

Has anyone tried installing a PNY NVS 810 graphics card in a ThinkCentre M800? When I put it in, I can see the BIOS screen (and can go into BIOS and change settings), but after that the computer seems to freeze. Screen is blank and no disk activity. I have tried putting the card in another computer and it booted fine. Also, I replaced the power supply with a 520w unit. No change. Waiting to hear back from either Lenovo or PNY support.

Someone said I need drivers but can you install drivers without an operating system installed? the units originally had Win 7.

Hi all, I am in need of installing a second disk drive for my ThinkCentre E53 10AS. I read the manual, which has instructions on replacing the disk drive - it does mention that in order to install a second disk drive, to follow these same instructions! Of course, it would not be an identical process. For example, there are 3 SATA plugs on the mother board, SATA1, SATA2 (both red), and SATA3 (yellow). SATA1 is plugged into the HDD.

There is a box connected to the power button, that has two buttons on the back. SATA power and SATA data. The SATA power is connected to the HDD and the motherboard via a 4-wire cable. The SATA data is connected to the HDD via a ribbon SATA cable.

So, if I want to install a second HDD, do I use a SATA plug to connect it to the yellow SATA 3 plug?

Does the fact that the plug is yellow mean anything?

And finally, I have looked everywhere, but cannot figure out what the max HDD capacity would be for a secondary drive? I bought a WD Red 3TB. Hopeful it works?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

A:ThinkCentre (E53): need to install as secondary hard disk drive

According to the hardware maintenance manual for the E73, the two motherboard SATA connectors (which you say are red) are SATA3 which supports 6GB/s.  The third one (which you say is yellow) is SATA2 which supports 3GB/s.

Sinc you've bought a SATA3 drive, you should use the second red SATA3 connector to get maximum performance out of it.  Be sure you use a SATA3 data cable and not a SATA2 data cable, as that's part of the requirement to get SATA3 performance.

As far as drive capacity goes, there's no hardware limit pertaining to your E73.  However there IS a consideration depending on the fact that your drive is larger than 2TB.  In order for a new drive to be usable, it must be "partitioned" and "formatted with a file system".  And in order to use a drive larger than 2TB the partitioning technique must be GPT, and not MBR.

You can partition the new drive to have one or more partitions, but if you mistakenly use MBR as the partitioning technique only 2TB of the drive will be visible and usable for partitions.  And there will be a maximum of four "primary" partitions (or a maximum of three "primary" partitions and any number of "logical" partitions).  The extra 1TB of your new 3TB drive will be invisible and unusable.  And the largest MBR partition is also limited to 2TB.

In contrast, if you partition the drive using GPT (which is the modern partitioning method that is recommended), this method supports drives... Read more

Hi!
I've just received a M710T (product code 10M9000CIX - i7-7700 + m.2 ssd + 8gb ddr4) which comes with a 180W PSU.
I'm from Italy so it was difficult to find the US version with 210W PSU, I see that the US version had it http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkCentre/ThinkCentre_M710_Tower

I was looking to buy the 210W as an aftermarket part but I cannot find the code / website where I can buy it.

The reason why I need this is because I've just buyed an Nvidia GT 1030 low profile which should consume about 25/30W.
Reading online I think that my PSU should hold up the load but I would like to power up my PSU for the future.

Another thing to consider is that Lenovo ships various M710T with 180W + NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB + 7200rpm HDD.
The power consumption of the GT 730 is similar to the 1030 and my machine have an m.2 ssd that should consume less than the HDD.

So the questions are:
- is there anyone with my machine (180w) who is using a dedicated gpu without a problem?
- how and where I can find the 210W online (shipping to eu/italy)?

Thank you!

As you wrote, systems with the 180w supply are available with the GT 730, which is similar in power to the GT 1030, so the 180w will power it no problem.  The reason this is possible, is that current generation processors use much less power than those from a few years ago, ie. 65w vs. 80 or 95w.

I am confident that there are some models with 210w available in Italy.  You could search the PSREF for system models ending in "IX", same as yours.   I imagine that in a couple of years you'll see good used 210w supplies on Ebay for reasonable prices.  The part number can be found in the parts list in the back of the HMM.  So that when you want to upgrade the GT 1030, you can do so.

I'm looking for help regarding my old mother's PC, a Lenovo M58 6303. Here are its caracteristics: https://imgur.com/a/KpR36ea
The PC is quite slow from time to time, with regular "no longer responding" frames when she wants to switch between Excel/Chrome tabs.

The idea is basically how to improve it while spending as little as possible.

Regarding the RAM, the PC has 2 DDR3 modules of 2+1go. When I opened it,I saw 4 slots, 2 green, 2 blue. Based on what I found on Internet and Lenovo docs, I can upgrade it up to 8go - even though that much isn't necessary - with max 2go modules at 1066 mhz.Crucial websites suggests 4gb 1600 Udimm modules. Got this Lenovo M93p Tiny Desktop, i5, 4GB of RAM with a 120GB SSD. Great little machine only I have been having issues with it out of the gate.

Got a few BSOD's at random, then figured it was to do with all the bloatware installed by default so figured I would try a fresh install and after installing drivers and some updates it immediately began giving BSOD's again.

I got one 0x0000001e and another 0x00000019 with a message of BAD_POOL_HEADER. I have attached the zip with all the computer and dump info, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I have a new compaq presario 1200 which came with McAfee Virus Scan preinstalled. When I tried to update, I was unable, so I called McAfee. They told me it was because I had version 4.0 and needed 5 or higher. I went to their web site and downloaded according to the instructions they had e-mailed me. Within a day many things went haywire with my machine. I called Compaq and we ended up restoring to a time frame before I uninstalled 4.0 and installed the new version of McAfee. Everything went back to normal except for the static coming out of my speakers. I can get no satisfaction from Compaq as they contend it is a McAfee problem, and dealing with McAfee is an exercise in total frustration. Can anyone out there help me?

First off let me say this is the 2nd laptop that I've installed windows 7 on that has had this same problem and to this day it also hasn't been resolved.

So before windows 7 I had XP. Everything worked fine. Once I installed 7 I get a red x on my speaker in the bottom right corner. Now as soon as I plug in some headphones It works great. When I unplug the headphones I can quickly hear the music that I was listening to come from the laptop speakers.

In the playback settings the only device I have to choose from is headphones. Even with "Display Unused Devices" or whatever that's called is enabled I only get the one option.

Drivers are up to date. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. I've searched all over the internet and no one has had this issue.

I'm on a Gateway Model: MA6.

Has anyone had this issue? It's pretty frusterating....thanks

Do you remember what theme you were using before the reinstall?

Check whether any of the the Basic or High Contrast theme suits you.

Right click on the blank desktop area>personalize>Window Color>Advanced appearance setting and this dialog box should appear, where you can change the color and font size of the various items including the Menu.

As stated in that dialog box, color and sizes selected here will apply only if you have selected the Windows 7 Basic Theme or an Ease of Access theme.

Hope this helps.
