Question about Video Driver- BSD

Q: Question about Video Driver- BSD

I have a friends computer (Toshiba M35X- Satelite)
Anyhow it was very reluctant to run XP. When I finally got it to run in safe mode I did a system restore and it ran again (temporarily).

I defragmented the disc. I also looked to see the drivers installed. They all seemed to be working fine with no question marks.

I am afraid to turn the computer off so I just put it on sleep mode.

Everything is working fine. But I did notice on the Display in Device Settings has 2 of the exact same drivers listed.

I double checked the Device Settings on my Dell and there is only one Display driver?

So I am wondering if the conflicting drivers for the same Video Card are creating Windows XP to BlueScreen and make it so difficult to load Windows.

Any insight?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Dell M7710 running Windows 10.  The machine has an Nvidia Quadro M5000M GPU.  I use it primarily for Photoshop.  I'm trying to update my driver.  The Nvidia site shows 377.11-quadro-grid-desktop-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe as the driver recommended for Photoshop on Windows 10 64-bit.  The Dell site provides two driver downloads: Video_ISV_Driver_33M6J_WN32_21.21.13.7586_A01.EXE and nVIDIA-Quadro-K-and-M-series_Graphics-Driver_G1Mt4_WIN_22.21.13.8266_A00.EXE.  Assuming that A01 and A00 are BIOS versions, my BIOS is 1.14.4, 7/28/2017.
Any thoughts on which driver to install?

A:Video driver question

A00 and A01 are not BIOS versions.  Dell just uses that nomenclature for tracking releases of a given entity, such as a driver for a particular device.  They do ALSO use that nomenclature for BIOS releases, although that seems to be going away on newer systems in favor of typical decimal releases, e.g. 1.2.5.In terms of which type of driver to use, ISV drivers are typically tested to a higher standard and/or tuned to work with certain applications, so for the applications they are built for, they can be faster and/or more stable.  That's obviously useful if you use those applications, and in fact some ISVs require you to use ISV drivers to get support from them, but all that extra testing and tuning means that they aren't always the most current release, and therefore for OTHER applications, you might be better served by being on the LATEST drivers rather than the latest ISV drivers.  I don't know if Photoshop is an ISV-optimized application.  I think it might only be for things like CAD, animation, modeling, etc.  But the NVIDIA site might tell you.
In terms of Dell vs NVIDIA as sources you can get regular and ISV drivers from both sources.  I tend to prefer NVIDIA because Dell can take a while to make updated drivers available on their site.  Theoretically Dell tests new drivers on their hardware before releasing them, but I don't know how extensive that is -- and of course at some point they stop bothering to post new... you can get the latest drivers at www.nvidia.com
click on dowload drivers,
next screen highlight graphics drivers, Geforce and TNT and pick your operating system. The latest versions for Windows 95, 98, Me, XP, 2000 are 41.09 and are self extracting. Just keep clicking I agree and Next to install them. Restart.

I went to the UFC's website and clicked on one of the video's they had embedded in their scrolling news on the home page. The screen went black and then came back, saying that the video driver had shutdown and recovered. I refreshed the page, assuming it was just a glitch. I clicked the same video to watch it and my computer seized up and I got a blue screen. I didn't have enough time to read everything on the blue screen, but I caught a little bit saying that Windows had encountered an error with the video driver and needed to shut down. The computer rebooted a bit sluggishly, but now appears to be fine. Any ideas as to whether this is a problem with my video card's driver or the video on the site? Videos elsewhere work fine.

Hi,

First you can download Speccy to check the temprature of the display card, mainboard to see whether it's normal:

Then you can try to reinstall the driver of the display card or upgrade the driver.

I upgraded my reconditioned (2008/06/10) Acer Aspire M1641 from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 home premium, because under Vista I could not use a second video adapter from a different card manufacturer while using the on-board video (Vista apparently does not allow heterogeneous graphics). At the same time I bought a different video card, being a GeForce 8400 GS from Galaxy. The Win7 upgrade worked OK, but when I put in the PCI Express-16 8400 video card, the M1641 worked using the video from that card, but could not see (in Device Manager) the motherboard video adapter (NVIDIA GeForce 7050), nor could Belarc Advisor detect the GeForce 7050. I had downloaded and installed the latest NVIDIA driver for Win7 (191.07_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_english_whql.exe) which is said to handle both GeForce 7000 and 8000 series. My questions -
1. Do I need a BIOS update and if so what BIOS file do I need,
2. Do I need driver updates for the M1641 for Win 7,
3. Do I need to go back to Vista to be able to use 2 (homogeneous) video adapters and 2 monitors so I can have the larger desktop area I need to do my work?

And incidentally, how do I set folders to remember their settings in W7? I carefully get a folder looking the way I want that particular folder to look and set its position, then next time I open it it has forgotten....

All help and suggestions gratefully received and acknowledged.

TIA

A:W7 does not see motherboard video when 2nd video adapter present + W7 folder question

By default when you install a Video card, it disables the onboard video. You can enable it again in the bios, if that is what you want, but this always causes problems. Your Video card should have 2 outputs (DVI and VGA) to run 2 monitors already, you don't need to enable the onboard video.

if this has degraded overtime and was not fixed with a restore of the system it's probably a hardware issue and won't be fixed by a driver update. Have you checked to be sure it's not the monitor? Do you have another video card you can try just to see if that fixes the issue?

So I recently decided to update my graphics for the new Battlefront and got a pop up from Catalyst Control asking if I wanted to activate some 'super high' setting for my Toshiba 32BV702B 32" tv. I foolishly clicked okay and now my tv won't display any video.

I'm not sure where to go to turn that setting off but I can get back my video by plugging in a DVI output at the same time. I just use this extra monitor for when stuff breaks cause the BIOS options don't show on HDMI output - right now it's allowing the TV to display the picture but if I remove that cable the video goes again. I'm guessing it's a different video profile when they're both plugged in from when they aren't or something and I don't know how to make changes to just the TV when both are plugged in for me to be able to see.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok so, I've got a Dell Dimension 3000, 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512mb ram.

Im doing an upgrade due to my lack of a video card and sufficient ram for games. *I'm upgrading strictly for gaming*
I'm adding ram, going to have a total of 2gigs. Did it on crucial and it should work fine.
Now as many of you already know the Dimension 3000 only has PCI video card slots. So, I did some research and found the best possible card for my mobo. (At least I think) The x1550:

And just recently I saw this:

But can't find it anywhere in stores, could someone show me where that is available? To my knowledge that would be better than the x1550, right?

I am also using Dell Dimension 3000, and I upgraded all Video Card, RAM and PSU already, so I think I can help you a little bit here.

First, which games do you want to play? Because if you want to play newest games, then I'm sorry, you will have to buy a whole new computer. X1550 and 2gb of DDR RAM won't help you anymore.

Second, as far as I know, X1550 is the best for PCI now, but X1300 is really slightly behind. Many people believe they are the same. You can easily buy X1300 from newegg. You bought mine with $20.00 cheaper from eBay, but I guess money is not really your problem anyway.

Third, I have used X1300 and FX5500 and didn't see any problem with Dell Monitor at all. The only thing you need to be careful if you decide to buy X1300 is that there are two kind of X1300. Don't buy the Small Factor version because it is made for special kind of computer, and it won't fit into your case. The one you should buy look like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129062

Fourth, even though many people suggest that we should only use Dell PSU because the other PSU won't fit into the case, I am actually using this one of Antec: http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/power-supplies/m/601582/
It fits perfectly.
And yes, PSU upgrade is a good idea. I believe my system is working very well, so you should have at least 350W PSU. DON'T buy cheap PSU.

Please bear with me as this video lark is all new to me.

I recently got a Sony TRV245E camcorder and was wondering what the best format is when capturing images on the PC?
I seem to have the choice of AVI or MPEG-1.

The camera does this via USB but also has a 'DV out' connection, would this improve quality at all?

I did a test VCD and when I played it on my DVD player it looked horribly pixilated. I had to use NERO to do this as the Pixela ImageMixer software that came with the camera wouldn't recognise my CDRW drive.

Also as this camera has no 'DV in' is there a way of getting images back ot of the PC and onto VHS tape?

I'm sorry to keep asking so many video questions but I don't get cable and I love watching legal videos and tv shows online. I am using Windows XP Home SP3 and Firefox 3.5 on a PC.

My question this time is about a specific site - TNTtv.

When I watch a video of any of the shows on the TNT site they play for 30 seconds and then the video freezes while the audio continues to play.
Then after several minutes the video plays (where the audio already is) and then freezes and this continues through the whole show. There is no buffering - if I put it on pause, after the time of the section finishes, it just jumps to the next section.
I've used IE and Firefox - it's the same.

Their support told me to disable Video Acceleration in Windows Media Player but I'm not watching the show there - it is directly on the site but I did what they said and it didn't change anything.

I'd appreciate any ideas how to fix this.

Thanks!

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

Hello Randal,

According to Dell, your Dell D600 has a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 series graphics. Unfortunately, it seems that only a XP or Windows 2000 driver version is available at Dell, and no mention of it at ATI. You may be best using the default drivers installed by Windows 7.

When I first installed the OS I used windows update in order to install a driver for my vid card. I am now trying to use a driver from nvidia. I go through the entire process of installation smoothly, restart, but when I go back into the device manager the same microsoft driver is there.

Check the install .inf by opening in a notepad and see if your card and device id are listed in it. Which video card are you using?

Can someone tell me where I unzip a video driver in windows 2000. I found the driver for my card but I cant get it to install. it is in a zip file and I dont know where to put it. I have only 16 colors. the video card is on a compaq presario and I installed win 2000 on it.the video card is a trident 3d. I really need some help here. when I open device manager there is no video card listed so I cant update driver to this one. the only thing in the device manager that has a problem is the "standard dual channel PCI IDE controller and it says it cant find enough resources to run. I dont know what to disable so that it will work. HELP

A:No video driver

try "install new hardware" and then "have disk" and point it to your zip.
might work.

A laptop will often need a specific mobile implementation of the driver.

Is the driver package you downloaded specified to cover the mobile application? What brand and model of laptop is it?

N5110 BMTTGR1. This laptop struggles to do anything. The cpu benches at 477 when it is supposed to be 1194. Although I have installed the drivers from here I am back as I was told that the video driver may be the problem. I see three listed on the site. The first one says for 7570m, second says for 6470/7450m, and the third says 6470/6620/6520/6480. Device manager says this has the 6480 video. Do I install all of these or just the last one? Thanks.

I had spyware on my computer, couldn't seem to get it off and did a complete new installation on my computer. Now I'm having other problems, like not being able to change my resolution or display. My display is only 16 colors, my screen area on has 640X480 and 800X600.

My system is Windows 2000, 5.002195, Service pack 2, intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.70 GHz, 523.760 KB RAM.

I have exclamation marks at Other Devices (Multimedia Audio controller, Multimedia Controller, PCI Device, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible)). All of these have exclamation points.

This computer was custom made for me to do video editing using matrox RT2500, but I don't have the driver cds. Can anyone give me direction that I may be able to get up and going again.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you have a separate video card, you can get the drivers from the video card manufacturers website.

You should also go to your mobo(motherboard) manufacturers website and install the chipset drivers etc.

If you have any problems with your system specs, click on the first link in my signature.

I restored my friend's Dell Inspiron N7010 to factory configuration. After running Windows Update for a few days, i saw that SP1 was not showing up to be installed. After some research, I found that there is a known issue with the old Intel video driver - SP1 will not show up with that driver (8.15.10.2104) installed, per a Microsoft document I found. When I went to the Dell website, entered the service tag, it only has that same old driver version available. Doing a search without the service tag, just by model, gives the same result.
When I go to the Intel website and download the generic driver for the Intel Core Processor - Integrated HD Graphics, and try to install it, the computer gives the message "Not validated for this computer - please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer."
Any ideas?
Thanks

A:SP1 not available due to video driver

It could be that you downloaded the wrong driver, or, Dell modified the device ID of the onboard video so that only their driver will install. A modified ID string is quit common especially if the laptop has dual graphics. You could try uninstalling the Intel video driver if its listed in add remove programs. Then see if SP1 will install. If it does then try reinstalling the Dell supplied driver. Creating a system restore point before you start might be a good idea too.

welcome to TSG - I have moved your post to a thread of its own, please do not answer threads with questions of your own - gets very confusing

A:Something isn't quite right with the video driver

Sorry, I didn't realise I had asked a question. I was just responding to the initial thread letting the person know that they didn't have to revert back to XP as their laptop will function with Windows 7.
