I bought Win 8 Pro Upgrade especially for my fairly recently bought Lenovo Ideapad Y570 laptop. Today, I contacted a large Lenovo Service Centre in Shanghai, to get their take on actually installing Win 8. I'm still uncertain about how the upgrade will affect my work. The service manager said he advises against it. The Ideapad Y Series sold up to now has been designed with Win 7 in mind. Almost all of the special hardware features and the software supporting these features are not compatible with Win 8. The new Lenovo's fitted with Win 8 are adapted to the new version of Windows. The pre-Win 8 models should rather be used in the way they were intended to be used. Otherwise you might experience all kinds of difficulties and lose more than you gain from upgrading to Win 8, depending on your particular use of a computer. The guy did not speak for Lenovo as a company, he was simply speaking from workshop experience and dealings with customers.

If you are talking about windows 8 not having some drivers for specific hardware, then i must tell you, you shouldnt depend on drivers, which are available on lenovo or any other laptops seller sites, because they dont update drivers on their sites. You should download drivers directly from the sites of the manufacturers of specific hardware, i.e. intel, realtek, atheros ...

When I do a Hardware scan using the Companion all areas go through OKButWhen I use the Solution Centre for Hardware scans it stops at Mathermatical Operations test & goes no further.Question why?

This is similar to other requests I've seen on this board, with an exception: I am able to enable VT-x in an entire classroom of PCs. After rebooting, everything is fine. However after a month or two, out of the blue, some of the PCs have VT-x disabled again. This has happened on every model of Thinkcentre we have ever used at my local university. Of course this also means several different BIOS builds also. Any ideas on why this resets at random?

Can I get the appropriate cable from somewhere to draw power from SATAPWR1 -> HDD drive 2 ??

Hi,I have a user in Madagascar who has a faulty Lenovo X270 laptop. It powers on for a few seconds then immediatly switches off, we have tried everything to fix it, but our IT support team are advising it will need to be repaired by Lenovo as it is still within warranty. The only problem is after I gave my colleagues in Madagascar the address for the Lenovo repair centre that shows on your website, they are advising that the place does not exist anymore... When they looked for it they advised there was a clothes store there instead. Calling the phone number has no response as well.Is there another authorised Lenovo repair centre in Madagascar? Hi all, Received my T530 with Windows 8. There I had Lenovo Solution Centre and it was ok. But i have put my SSD with Windows 7 to this laptop cause i have everything installed there for work, etc. It works great, and I wanted to install Lenovo Solution Centre, but i cannot it says: "Product: Lenovo Solution Center -- This version of the Lenovo Solution Center program can only be installed on select Lenovo computers. This setup cannot continue." Why it's like this? What can i do to install it.

So I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre M900 tiny with an i5-6500T processor, SSD, it crashes once maybe twice a day over an 8 hour working shift. I do data valedation in magento 1&2 so have lots of excel spreadsheets open but I find it doesnt matter how much or how little I have open, it crashes reguardless. What happens is the screens stop responding, the mouse will still be free to move for about a minute across the frozen pages before stopping too then this wont resolve itself and requires a hard reset- I've treid waiting half an hour before and still nothing. My worst day was 12 crashes and on average its 3 a day.This has gone on for a year now and in that time I've had a Lonovo technician come out and take a look, he changed the motherboard but still the issue stays the same, Ive tried more RAM, less RAM, the CPU is fine, I'm running off ethernet, loads of free disk space, not alot saved onto the memory. Its even been whiped entirely and rebuilt. I cant download any dodgy viruses as I dont have admin permissions so it cant be that either.I cannot find a single reason for it to be having this issueAnybody had the same issue before and managed to have it resolved?

I purchased an Idea Centre 300S-11BR in May of 2016.  It ran fine for about 7 months, but died in December of 2016.  I could here it cycling to restart, but it would do so for 5 seconds, stop and then try again.   The repair was covered under warranty (1 year from date of purchase).  Lenovo sent someone out to replace the motherboard.  Computer worked fine. Fast forward another 11 months and the computer died again.  Same exact symptoms and problem. I would bet that the motherboard is the issue, again. Lenovo has said they will not service the computer as it is now 1 year out of warranty.  However, I believe that there was a defective part.  And the replacement part was 11 months old when it, too failed. I would be willing to pay for a lenovo support person to come on site to determine if the motherboard is defective.  If not, I would be willing to pay lenovo for the service.  Lenovo warranty said they were escalating this to the customer support folks and that I would hear something bacy by 10/13/2017.  It is now 10/16/2017 and i have heard nothing. Anyone else having issues with this desktop?  Any suggestionis about receiving warranty service?

I have a Black screen issue on an Idea Centre B320. But unlike others on here it really is completely Black, as in no cursor, no logo, nothing! Although Windows loads in the background. Things started happening after the Win 10 upgrade, screen kept going blank, shook mouse, screen back on so thought it was a power save issue that needed adjustment. Then one day it just stayed off, every time i reboot, nothing. Can't boot in to safe mode as screen is completely blank, tried all the keyboard tricks F2 e.t.c, nothing works, i can even get the voice narrator working so can basically log in blind and the start screen loads in the background. Voice narrator informs me that all the screen icons are there so everything is working apart from the screen! One tech guy reconed it was a hardware problem and i'd need a new motherboard at a cost of £200... however, another tech guy said, 'it's a software problem relating to Win 10... so, who is right, and what can i do about it?! Please help if anyone can as it's an amazing piece of kit with a large screen, at the moment i am using a refurb Dell latitude which is absolute crap, so i want the Lenovo up and running again as soon a possible! At home I have a local network with five computers, two phones. I'd like to be alerted or scan my local network to see if a person is using my connection for internet. Why, for a month, every day between 20h and 22h my connection is tested and I find myself with my ping up to 10000 and HD TV freeze. The normal operation of the network with a ping of 40 so the cyclical difference is not due to my installation. I have used paid apps with a 30-day trial that gives warnings, but it is a free app would be better, I do not ask a professional soft but just a block hacking WiFi network. The problem is that the ISP provides a code to connect to the neighbor waiting for the installation of their line, so I guess the friend of a friend happens that password. Oh yes, I disconnected the freewifi connection on my router.
 
Advanced Port Scanner is a fee, so if you know his little brother free. The app detects and blocks it all.

Recently my Symantec(NAV) program has advised me that e-mail was not sent, that I should re-send the item from the "sent" file.
I then go to the "sent" file, highlight the msg., use the "forward" mail button, re-address the msg. and am able to the send it successfully. This happens intermitantly, especially when I include attachments in the e-mail. Am using OE5.5 in WinMe. Thk-U for any assistance.

Hi All I have a 2016 model.  Hardly Used at all, warranty ran out Dec 2017. All of a sudden the top left of the screen is un responsive to touch.It runs about 5 inches down the left side from the edge and 10 inches across the screen almost to the centre. The visual display and mouse all continue to work in the area but the touch reponse is not being detected. I have reset the system via settings as the settings have advised.I have callobrated the screen via settings - the area was unresponsive during callobration. Any further advice? Thank you

Oh well, guess they released some security patch for that pcanywhere code leak and it supposed to be safe to use it now.

What actually seems weird to me is that the pcanywhere code was stolen in 2006 and they only come clean about the whole deal now in 2012, almost six years later.

Since we're speaking about this software program, I came across some news on a new audials anywhere program that will enable one to access files anywhere or something similar to this, as far as I managed to find out.

Looked useful and I wanted to know if it is in any way related to pcanywhere, I definitely do not want to have anything to do with them after this stunt.

Suspecting a serious infection on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit laptop (as Windows Defender finds an infection, but does not seem to be able to clean it), I started by following Cookiegal's post.

HijackThis (version 2.0.4). reports: O1 - Host file redirection at the top of the main window. After that, it shows some registry entries listed (about 10) and at line: F2- REG:system.ini:UserInit=userinit.exe it pops-up a window advising: "For some reason, your system denied access to the Hosts file...". It suggests a resolution - run: notepad c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, press enter. I got to that part. After that - it tells me to find the offending lines that HijackThis reports, delete them and save file as hosts. However, there is no such offending lins. The file I see is the sample host file from MS and all its lines seem to be comments preceded by # and one or two blank lines.

Also, after I say OK to the pop-up, it proceeds to list other entries. However, it ends in a pop-up Window with title Notepad: Cannot find the C:\Program Files(x86)\Trend Micro\hijackthis.log file. Do you want to create a new file? I say yes. However, no log file is created! So, I am stumped.

I was able to run DDS and GMER - and the contents are pasted and attached per instructions.

Please advise the next step. Any way I can get around the hangup with Thanks a lot!

Hi Everyone, I did start another thread about this but thought I would be a bit more specific this time around so I do apologise for my previous effort but this is so frustrating coming from someone who is a noob at this sort of stuff.I recently at the direction of Lenovo support, had to update my BIOS/Firmware on a less than 2 months old machine as there was an issue coming from inside my box where the fan would just randomly start runnng fast and loud when I was in the middle of a game (Watch Dogs 2, WOW or Prepar3d).I was initially directed to go to Nvidia as I have a GE Force 1080 card as there were some issues with those and fans running fast. I downloaded latest drivers and all went well for several days but then the noise was back but it sounded different. When I messaged Lenovo that`s when they directed me to downlaod latest BIOS/Firmware update as this may solve my issue. I did this BIOS/Firmware update, system update, you name it I updated what needed to be updated.I did this and from between the time I downloaded and updated what needed to be updated and today, I have not been into the Lenovo Nerve Centre. I ran Rkill on a lenovo x220, then ran Combofix.  I failed to see that the Lenovo Toolbox was open, which may have interfered somehow with Combofix.  After Combofix finished, I then attempted to run the Malwarebytes Anti Malware, and received an error message stating "Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion".
 
I cannot launch any programs, including a system restore.  Any suggestions?

The "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion" message is not a ComboFix or Malwarebytes specific problem. It happens from time to time on Vista and Windows 7 computers when a security tool deletes files and registry entries that require a forced reboot. Another reboot should take care of the issue.

i would be very grateful if someone please can help me as I think my pc may be infected .I ran a hijackthis scan and have 10 red crosses advising that files are not running from the system 32 folder (some are also listed as missing files) and that i have possible nasties. Hi , I have Lenovo Z 580 Ideapad.3 months back its fan stopped working. So i visited an authorized service centre located at Gurugram. http://business.google.com/website/devmohini/Since my laptop is out of warranty , they told me that the fan need to be replaced and charges will be applied. They said that they will order the part and let me know when my laptop will be ready . Few days back, they called me and asked me to pickup my laptop.I went there and checked my laptop , its fan was working . I paid the full amount. They gave me the receipt But they didn't provide me the Fan's warranty card or anywhere the warranty was mentioned in the receipt. They didn't even told me when the warranty of the Fan they replaced , was gonna expire.But now after 2 & half months , the Fan stopped working again . I went again and showed them my laptop. Now they are saying that the Fan panel need to be changed again & since the Fan's warranty is expired , I have to pay the full charges again. I am so angry and irritated at them right now . I have serious doubt that they lied to me and cheated on me. They just resolved some minor issue but charged me the full amount of Fan in the first place . & now they are doing the same thing again. They are such conman. I am so disappointed with Lenovo service. I sent my laptop Y460p for repair at Lenovo IdeaPad series Service Centre at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre on the 9th of April. It's been 2 weeks and I have not received calls from them so I called them today and asks them about my laptop. The person who answered the call asks me to wait for him to call back as he will need to go and check.  When he called back, I was disappointed. The person told me that my laptop had just been processed today and ask me to give them 3 to 5 more working days. I am a student. School had already started for me and I really need my laptop. If i had knew that it would take such a long time for them to repair my laptop, I would not have sent it for repair. And I was told that my laptop would take 5-8 working days(usually only 3-5 working days) because they had to extend my warranty. It's already way past 8 working days! It's the 12th working day from the day i sent my laptop for repair and you are telling me you were doing nothing to my laptop? and It's not the first time i had such bad experience with Lenovo. My laptop had problems with the keyboard. So last year, I went to the service centre at bukit timah shopping centre and tried to have my laptop repaired. Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

i know this wouldn't be the best place to paste this but i hope you can help. I want to buy a new laptop with i3 but i learnt some have ultra low voltage 330um(1.2ghz) which gives low clock speed instead of 330M and others which give better clock speed(over 2ghz). Is the low voltage ones for mobiles only?

Current Setup : We have 5 PC models in the field. I have a base image / drive for each model. Imaging done via hard drive cloner.
Solution wanted: I want to be able to have one base image / drive for all machines. The problem I keep running into is drivers. I want to have one drive that I can clone and pop it into any one of those 5 models and it will pick up the correct drivers and
work right out of the gate.
We have to update our image every so often and with having to update for 5 different PC's it becomes quite time consuming. Having one master drive would be much more efficient.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
