Import scheduled task to multiple machines

Q: Import scheduled task to multiple machines

I have been asked to create a scheduled task for machines in meeting and conference rooms that reboots them after 4 hours of inactivity.
I have the xml file exported from my own machine, but I can't find a way to allow this to import via script that doesn't need the target system name.
Is there either a way to import a single task into multiple machines withouth having to edit the script for each OR a way to add a task via a registry edit?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have been trying to get a windows application that I have developed to run as a scheduled task. I am running Win XP Pro SP2.

This works perfectly when the computer is up and running but it is intended to work at night when the computer is on standby. I have checked the " Wake the computer to run this task" box.

If I schedule the task to being while it is on standby I find that it will only actually start when I log back in again in the morning.

If I test using a console application then it will indeed work while in standby.

What I have as the task is a one line .bat file contaning the program path and name followed by some command line arguments which enable the automatic running then termination of the windows application (as opposed to nomal interactive windows actions). Could it be something to do with this aspect that it requires the computer to out of standby mode to begin ?

I would be grateful for any advice to find a solution to this. I will be pleased to supply any furthe information if needed.

Many thanks

John

I have read a lot of other forums about scheduled tasks running twice, unfortunately the hot fix does not fix the issue.

Hotfix
I checked in C:\windows\system32\tasks, the solution is not here.
I also checked in the registry, was not able to find the duplicate task, I was able to find the task in /windows NT
This happens in a very specific scenario.  We have to update the time triggers for a specific scheduled task based off when a store closes.  They close later on the weekends so the 1st task "autoupdate" will look at an xml file to determine
if the store close time has changed.  Since the store close time changes, it then recreates the "store close" scheduled task with the new time triggers found in the xml.  Autoupdate does this by looking at a .config file we wrote.

Unfortunately this config file had an issue with the path to the store close task not being case sensitive.  When the Autoupdate task kicks off, if replaces the store close task with the correct time triggers, but now the store close task runs twice
at each time trigger
Example
We have a task folder \Hello World
The config file paths out to the task as \Hello world (notice the lowercase w).
This causes the time triggers to kick off 2 task, 1 for (\Hello World\Store close) and another for (\Hello
world\Store close)

I got this to trigger 3 times by changing the .config file to path out to \hello
world.  Now every time the time trigger... Read more

I started using the Task Scheduler to defrag the local disk drives, by (creating task) & (creating basic task) from the scheduler console, That's (2) types of task to make sure it works.

Problem: The tasks do "trigger" after modifying settings, but at "irregular" start times and sometimes not-at-all.
I see the (Synchronize across time zones) check box at the (trigger tab), to wonder if checking the box will cause irregular start times.
Question: Is it necessary  to check mark the (Synchronize across time zones) box, to keep idle start times stable?
Example: A 5:00 AM scheduled trigger that starts at 12:40 PM, to say my OS has "bad" calculation to trigger the task.
Anyway, its been interesting testing (automatic defragmentation), even though I think Microsoft has to "perfect" the task scheduler performance more better.

Hi,

New here. I'm using a Scheduled Task to fire a very simple bat file that pulls, compresses and pushes a set of files to a different network directory. The bat file runs fine manually. On a networked desktop I have set up the task to run at about 5am est (waking the machine), as highest authority, when connected to the network, even when user is logged off and such. The task history tab shows 'Action complete' and 'Task complete' as anticipated but there are no new files (or the log that is created) as expected. I've verified the paths in the bat file. I'm confused about the "history" interpretation.

If the task/action complete successfully - what exactly does that mean?! As I mentioned - I can run the file manually with success - the files are completed and exist. It seems when the machine is logged off and asleep - it will wake up, run 'something' and show success.

Any suggestions to help trouble shoot are greatly appreciated. I wanted to run the task 'at logoff' but seems that is not readily available due to possible corruption/hanging and preventing that type of trigger from happening. Logon may become my option next - I just didn't want to stress the network in anyway if everyone is at once - but it is actually a very small office of users.

Sorry for the long post.

John

A:Scheduled Task history indicates task completed successfully but....

Just an update - I can run this bat file manually but the file will NOT run automatically - even IF the PC is powered up It is set to run at the highest authority, wake if asleep and connected to the network. I hope someone has some ideas - I'm about at a loss. All forum searching I already have covered. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Is there a thread to this I can read responses? Someone responded to me and I received an email - but when logging in I only see my single question here....just curious.

I have reviewed previous postings about similar issue. I am running with the highest privileges. I have a bat file that runs without errors on the command line. Uses robocopy to back up document directory. The scheduler history states it started, action completed with an error code 16 (don't know what this means) and task successfully completed? But I do not think it is actually executing the bat file.

A:Scheduled Task - States Task Ran - No Results

Just an ordinary error code of 16 decimal is "the directory could not be removed" if that's any help. A google on Windows Error Lookup Tool should find the freebie I'm using.

Whatever the batch file is it might work better if you implement it in AutoIt3 and compile it. To run external executables in AutoIt3 is very easy. It's free, and it has a forum full of programmers if you get stuck.

Try Kana Reminder . It is one of my favorite free utilities and works very well.

Kana Reminder can be set to run a program when the reminder time is triggered. I have never tried the option to run a program, but it works really well as a reminder.

Hi guys. I found this odd scheduled task named 'UninstallDDS-C960901F-CE14-4DE1-9729-1305F719A337'.
The task is set to run at 14:54 on 25/1/16 and then repeat every 00:01:00 indefinitely.
The target is C:\Windows\temp\deletefoldertask.exe

The task has no author and I can find no information about the executable.
Before I remove it, I thought I'd check with you guys to see if it has any legitimate purpose.

The task name starts with UninstallDDS which may relate to a piece of software called DDS Converter, have you installed or do you currently have that software installed on your machine?

I have also seen a post from 24th December at a different site reporting the same scenario which suggests a malware scan (Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software)
Also have a look at the post here to see if the suggestion on post #2 is of any help - Cleaning Up After Blue Screen/browser Control Scam | MajorGeeks.Com Support Forums

scheduling a task to run in xp is simple enough....

but how do you get the program to actually work after it starts up...

for instance, i have a little program that backs up my outlook express info... i have to start the program, then click on the "complete backup" button.

this is what i am asking, how do i "click" on the "complete backup" button with scheduled task?

like i said, getting the program to start up is no problem, i just can't get it to run.

seems impossible.....

Hi All,
I have the following question; I have created a batch file what is doing this:
I copies from a sourcefolder the zip files created today to a temp folder. From that temp folder the zip is being extracted and the extracted files copied to a destination folder. When these files are copied it deletes the zip files in the
temp folder.
When I run the script with doubleklic on it or from cmd it works fine.
But I want the script to run daily at 23:59, so I have make it a scheduled task. But the scheduled task will copy the zip to the temp folder, but it would not extract and copy.
Hope someone can help me.
Best regards,

A computer over a VPN tunnel is having issues that when the tunnel hiccups, the DNS of the computer changes and I have to flush the DNS when it does to reconnect over the VPN. I'm in the process of ordering different equipment, but want to create a band-aid
fix in the mean time.

What I want is to create a scheduled task that when the DNS is not a specific address (or changes, but don't want to loop the task) it flushes the DNS. Is there an easy way to accomplish this (specifically the scheduled task part)?

Scheduled Task not running when "run whether user is logged on or not" option is selected? Is this an issue/bug in windows 7?

A:Scheduled Task not running

Hello Kulafu,

In Task Scheduler:
click "Enable all tasks history".
Right click the task and click Run.
Look at the Task History tab. (may need to wait a few minutes and click refresh)
Does it show the task started, attempted to run, completed, and are there any errors listed?
Can you specify:
What does your task need to do (what program are you trying to run)?
Was the task created with an Admin or Standard account?
Do you have an Admin account that is password protected?
Are you logged in with a Standard account when the task runs?
I've seen "issues" with this setting myself.
Sometimes the task does run, but the task window is not displayed for the currently logged on user.
So, it may seem the task did not run...but it did.
Even if it did run, did it run successfully?

I believe it's often due to permissions needed for the task, and what user (type) is logged on when the task runs.
If you are logged on with a Standard account, and the task needs to run with "Admin" privileges...that might be your issue.

Hope this helps,
David

Hi,
I recently managed to create a musical wake up, using sheduled task and a bat file wich launches mplayerclassic and reads automatically the desired playlist.
Problem is, with this sheduled task, I can't stop the player because it doesn't appear anywhere.
I verified that I didn't checked "masked" in the general task options.
Also note that the bat file launched manually is showing the player correctly on the desktop and in the tasks manager allowing me to close it without having to reboot.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Home, and have a problem when I'm trying to run a scheduled task; recording a radio program at 5.30 am using PDMarq software.

However, the scheduler returned the following response, "Attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed. 0x8004130f No aacount information could be found for the task Scheduler Security Database." I understand from some investigations that this may be because I don't have a password set for Windows. But, as I'm the only person with access to my system, it's never seemed necessary. I have Administrator privileges, and Guest accessis disabled.

Is it possible to run task scheduler without a password, and if so, what do I need to do to make it so, please.

Many thanks

Make a backup of your registry first and then check this.
Start> Run> type regedit and hit OK.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Click on Lsa in the left pane and look in the right panel for:
limitblankpassworduse
Right click on it and select Modify and change the Value data to 0.
It is enabled by default.
Data: 0 (disabled) 1 (enabled)
Disable it, close and reboot and scheduled tasks should run.

I have tried changing the password on the properties and still get the same status. Is there a main password that needs to be setup? I am trying to set up an automated file backup system for someone who has a PC with Windows XP SP2. I intend to set up a scheduled task to run at some specified time every day.

However they shut their PC down when it's not in use.

If the PC is shut down at the scheduled time, will that run be missed, or will it run when they next start the PC?

Also, what if they shut the PC down for say 5 days. When they start it up, will it try to run the backup program 5 times in succession?

I hope that it will run the backup program just once on start-up if one or more scheduled run times get missed. I can't find this discussed anywhere on the net, and I don't have the time to experiment.

Also I'm doing this for someone else who has a Windows 98 PC. I know this is the XP forum, but do the answers to my questions above apply to Windows 98 too?

Thanks for your help.

A:What happens if PC is off when time for a scheduled task to run?

First of all, no ones what program you are talking about.

To me if can be off for a few days, have do it manually.

Think best place to check is with the maker of the program you want to use.

Hi,

I've decided to create a scheduled task to clean up after windows updates.

I've created the task and scheduled it to run every second Saturday of every month (to make sure that it only runs a few days after patch Tuesday). My problem is that I don't understand the "Configure for" options.

I see options to configure for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2

It would seem obvious that I should choose Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 as it's a Windows 7 machine but other tasks run perfectly okay with Windows Server 2008 R2 selected. Why is this?

This previously created scheduled task (an elevated shortcut) seems to work just fine:

It sounds like you have tasks where only Windows Server 2008 R2 is selected?
W7 and WS2008 R2 were released at the same time. The guts are about the same - so the "Configure for:" drop down offers them both on the same line. The setting should be Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 for the task that you are setting up.

You might want to given yourself a week more more after update Tuesday before doing the cleanup.

Hi all
I have an anomaly when trying to launch a server based utility from a Windows 7 PC.
I have a batch file on the PC which, when executed, runs a utility on a Windows 2012 server with no problems.
If I try to execute the batch file from a scheduled task, it stalls at the "Create Process" stage and does not run the utility.
This scheduled task setup was working fine until we migrated from Windows server 2008 to 2012.
I have tried various permutations of user credentials and even tried domain admin as the authenticator for running the scheduled task.
Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong please?
Thanks

I like to use scheduled tasks to make my computer into an alarm clock. I just got this computer about 6 weeks ago, and when I tried this for the first time it wouldn't work well because something else kept waking it up early at odd hours. I gradually got that sorted to the point where I could try it again. My first trial task was named 'alarm', and when it didn't work I right-clicked on the task and deleted it. Now I can't use that name as it is apparently already in use. So I named it something else, and it works, but some task keeps waking the computer at 6am, M-F, the same as I had set for 'alarm'. I've looked through all the tasks, and a few have run at that time, but none of those are set to wake the computer. I've searched for 'alarm' and come up empty, but if it doesn't exist, why can't I use that name for a task now? Is it possible that the 'deleted' task is still running but not visible, and if so, how can I find it again? If that's not possible, how can I find what's waking my computer at 6am? I've been through every task in the scheduler, and nothing is set to do that as far as I can tell.

A:Scheduled task already exists

the possibilities are endless. it seems like every piece of commercial software will routinely connect to the internet on a set schedule, ranging from a daily check to a monthly check. if it happens daily, my first guess would be windows update, or maybe an antivirus program.

I'm running a batch file every 15 min., daily. The problem is that you have to give it a start time. If the pc is switched on after that certain start time the task doesn't run for the whole day.
If I set it to begin at startup I don't have the option to repeat the task. It seems a little bit silly that the guys from MS didn't create an option to run the task simply every xx min without a start time.

How can I make it possible the way I want it?

Hi JeffL,

I'm a bit confused about the your issue. From what I can gather, it looks like your system restore was run on 7/23 (per second view), you then confirm it was last run on 7/30 (per your use of the word yesterday). That would be the 7th day; yes? If correct, I'm not sure how today (7/31) enters into the big picture?

Now, I can understand the importance of having some automatic tasks, so that I don't have to continually update my anti-virus manually, as well as flash player, Google Chrome, etc.

I have turned most of those services to "automatic" so that I am able to open up the task scheduler in the control panel.  However, all of the scheduled tasks still continue to say that they were unable to run, and even if I right click them and try to run them manually, they will still not run.

Any ideas?  I knew that there was a hot fix available, but I believe that was for pre-service pack 3 installations of XP.

A:XP SP3 - Scheduled Task Failed To Run

Go through the steps here. The Task Scheduler Service has a RPC dependency. Make sure that service is started.

I have setup a Scheduled task to run a php script "Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore " http:\\scriptlocation\script.php?task=1. This is set to stop if it runs longer than 10 minutes. (This has been adjusted on the xml file as the options on the dropdown start at 1 hour) Also force to stop is checked.

The script runs OK but the task will not stop and shutdown explorer.

Any ideas I am not getting anywhere.

Thanks
Matt

I am trying to use the free program FreeFileSync to do a nightly back up of some files and have had some trouble setting up the job. The syntax for the job would be "FreeFileSync myjob.batch" run from the utilities location.
I set the trigger to 2am each day, with the action to start the program from its location with the batch job file which is located in the same folder being the argument. Under conditions tab I set it so that it will wake the computer up to run the task and set it so that if another instance is running it will run in parallel in the settings tab. With that, the task did not run - anyone know what I did wrong?

A:setting up a scheduled task

Set the task to run the executable, starting in the folder with the ffs_batch, and with the ffs_batch as the argument.

There's no obvious way to do this in the Task Scheduler. I ran across a post linking to a 'command line' utility that supposedly supported a 'LastDay' argument, but the link was broken. Another reply in that post said 'LastDay' was equivalent to selecting 'run on the 31st of each month' in GUI, but a different reply said you could only do it by specifying the 28th as that was the only day all months have in common.

So, is there a way to run a scheduled task on the last day of the month? Thanks.

A:Run scheduled task on last day of month

Use the command line tool schtasks with the LASTDAY parameter.

Search the page for Lastday Syntax

Hi,
I am not able to find a task that I scheduled some time ago. The task runs CHKDSK on an external drive. It ran OK today at logon. I want to see if I have a similar task scheduled for the "C" drive.
I looked in Task Scheduler and I can't find it.
The event viewer log dutifully reported the results in Windows logs > Applications > Wininit
Can you help me find it?
Thanks
Frank C

A:Find a scheduled task

I may have triggered the CHKDSK by using the Disk Properties tool "Check Volume for Errors" where I get the option to run chkdsk at the next logon.. Thus, I would not find it in Task Scheduler but I would find the results in Event Viewer.

Hi all,

I'm running a backup strategy (rsync over SSH) for the company I work for. We have mainly Linux systems, including our inhouse server, but two of the desktops are running Windows Vista. This problem is happening to both of them.

Scheduled Tasks won't run when either system is idle. Instead it runs when the OS is active again (which could be at any time). As we have nightly snapshots I need Vista to run the scheduled task regardless of whether the system is active or not.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi, I'm trying to use the win7 Task scheduler to automatically open an app when I connect headphones, but I can't figure out the event ID/log for connected jack. When I connect/disconnect a jack, I get a taskbar notification, and C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM gets updated.

A:Run scheduled task when I connect headphones

What sound chip do you have, onboard or discrete. Point is I'm not sure you can do what you want, normally the control over what happens is done by the chip, I'm not clear on if it can then be used as a trigger for something else to happen, apart from muting the external speakers.

hi
I have a problem oposite to the usual one.

I have a task to hibernate my computer at 8pm
If I hibernate the computer earlier, and turn it on next morning, the task runs and hibernates the computer.

I HAVE NOT selectede the "Run task as soon as posible after a schedule start is missed"

Am I wrong? doesn't this means that if the task is messed, it?s not going to run ?

Alex

A:Scheduled task starts even if not marked so

Hi aleangelico and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

What happens if you let it hibernate at the scheduled time and then wake it up?

Hi

I am just wondering if anyone else has problems with the Windows Task Scheduler. I have different users who have been using the scheduled task to run something at night.

At first it worked fine...but over several months we began to have problems. No errors, the task just did not run. Somtimes it reports that it did...but it didn't.

Each time we can run it manually but it doesn't run as scheuduled. I've deleted the task and set it all up again, but it still won't run.

Any ideas?

Thanks
