Solved - open multiple files with OPEN option in Win Explorer

Q: Solved - open multiple files with OPEN option in Win Explorer

Download a free program called ExplorerXP at www.explorerxp.com/ and it works like XP version except use keyboard enter to actually open the unlimitied number of files highlighted.

Last night had folder with over 4000 files needed opened to execute them and load them into a program. No issues. Otherwise, win 7 and above allow only 15 at a time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I believe I?ve run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If it?s not a bug, and can be ?fixed? by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.)

This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document.

This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document.

In the latter, it?s a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them.

I?d like to understand what?s going on that?s different in the 2 cases. But I?d really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.

Thanks, if someone can help me.

A:Canít use CTRL-F6 in Word when open multiple files f/ Windows Explorer

Works fine here, using Word 2010 (SP1, fully patched) on Win7 SP1 Ultimate. I know that doesn't help you with your problem, but assuming you're using Office 2010, at least we can start to wonder if it's something wrong with your installation of Office or Windows - it does work, at least for me :P.

Sometimes I will have 4-5 browsers open at once. I will then close all except one of them.

When I go into task manager, Processes, there will still be 4-6 "iexplorer.exe" processes open.

I don't want this. Why do they remain open after closing the browsers?

Is there a fix for this?

A:IE8: Multiple internet explorer processes open with one browser open

Do they stay there until you restart the computer or do they go away after you close all of the browsers? Also when you open more browsers again does more processes come up as well as the other already there?

Hey,

I have a simple batch file to load multiple files with one click, but it's not working.

When I run it, it simply very quickly pops up the cmd dialog, which quickly disappears, and nothing is loaded.

I've tried 'running as administrator' - same problem.

File is xxxxx.bat

I've even tried the fail safe:

start /d C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe

and that doesn't work, so it's not a error in my paths... for some reason, it just won't load...

Worked in XP fine...

Is there a different technique in 7?

Basically, end result, want to open two programs with one click (one icon on taskbar).

Cheers

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

I have Windows ME and IE 6.0. I am receiving the error message: Internet Explorer was unable to open this site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. Every time I try to download something or open a document online. I am also having problems with any flash based website. I searched on the internet for what this could be and found that it is usually related to a no-cache header but when I followed the hotfix that Microsoft lays out for this by changing the registry editor it did not fix the problem so I'm not sure if that is what it is or not. I have noticed that no new files are being added to my Temporary Internet Files but cookies are being added. I do not know how to look at what my header setting is to find out. As a little background to what led up to this problem, our computer was running extremely slow. I did a virus check and found nothing, a spyware check and found nothing, so I decided to defragment the drive since it had not been done in over two years and I was under the impression that it could only help things. Ever since I fixed the errors on the drive using scandisk and defragmented the drive we have had this problem. I do not know if that is just a coincidence or not. I did not change any settings, etc. prior to this happening. Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Monica

The MS Office applications icons, such as WORD or EXCEL, have been replaced. All my Word files now bear the Wordpad icon and when clicked open as such. My Excel files now bear some other icon that no application on my machine can open.

However, when I open an office app, such as WORD or EXCEL, and then try to open a related file that now has a funny icons, they open properly.

Have MS xp; Excel 2002; Word 2002.

Grateful for advice.

A:[SOLVED] Can't open Word or Excel files from Explorer window

You probably need to set the file assocations.

If you go into your Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types (tab), then scroll down until you locate those file extensions (.doc, .xls, etc...).

Alternatively, there is probably somewhere in Microsoft word, or excel where you can automatically set file associations, but it would depend on which version you have.

Hi all,

I'm not entirely sure if these problems are related. My initial problem was that I have been unable to open, run or save files from my internet browser (Internet Explorer, I think version 7) for the past week. For example, when I try to open an email attachment the dialogue box appears asking me to save/open etc. Regardless of which I choose it will download but then not open or save to the destination. The same scenario happens for forum attachments and program downloads irrespective of file type.

Some internet searching found that most people were able to fix this problem by uninstalling AVG anti-virus software. This is when I became aware of my second problem. My AVG Free 8.0 started asking me for a licence number at approximately the same time as the first problem started. When I try to uninstall AVG Free 8.0 I get the following error:

Local machine: installation failed
nstallation:
Error: Action failed for file avi7.avg: creating backup....
Error 0x80070020 %DESTINATION% = "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Avg\avi7.avg.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Avg\avi7.avg"
Error 0x80004004

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a way to avoid this error message when uninstalling AVG Free 8.0 that did not require me to download another small program ( AVG remover tool ?). I've tried checking different combinations of options when uninstalling all to no avail.

Unfortunately I don't have 'Hijack This' ... Read more

Hello all

First, running Win7 64bit on full & clean install to a new HD.

Recently I have been noticing on a few trips to task manager that some times I will have a whole bunch of explorer.exe's running even if I have nothing but my desktop.

In doing some checking I found that this is happening from each time I open a new explorer window but the issue is, when I close the window, the process still is running.

It even happens if say from my desktop, I open only one explorer window and close that one and then at open another single one and close it and on an on like this.

Simple put it seems like for any condition I open an explorer window, despite the fact that I have closed it, it doesn't really seem to close.

Note, in doing some Googling I have found that I am not alone with this an some have recommend to uncheck, "Launch folder in separate process" in folder options and I have tried this but it doesn't work.

So how do I get Windows 7 to stop running a process of explorer.exe once I have closed it as sometimes I have even seen up to 10 of these running and its really eating up my memory.

Thanks

A:Unable to open Multiple Files at once

I have been all over the net trying to find an answer to this one.

I found an article on Microsoft's website (article 253788) that deals with
this for Win 98 but there is no info for WinXP.

Then I found this:
1.Open Regedit
2.Navigate to HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\
3.Delete the Bags & BagMRU keys
Explorer should be back to normal then.
[Updated]
If you did the above and it doesn't work, try killing the Explorer process first and then run RegEdit.exe from Taskmgr to delete the keys. Reboot your system after that.

Disclaimer: Don't fool with the registry if you're not sure.

Isn't there something simpler like clicking a box ?

I immediately called Norton, paid $100, and their techs attempted and claim they have removed all infected files, however, after 4 calls to Norton and over 8 hours of trying to resolve lingering problems that they claim have nothing to do with viruses or my case (even though these problems didn't exist until after pc was infected) there are still persisting problems.
[*]audio pop ups keep coming up whether or not I am on explorer. A visual pop up podshow.com/signup has appeared with the audio a couple of times.
[*]keyboard isn't always working with the pc. I will be typing online and monitor does not display what I have typed.
[*]windows quits and reboots in the middle of using the computer. I get a "windows has recovered from a serious (fatal? can't remember for sure) error"

explorer is now failing if multiple tabs are open

Several contacts with Norton over past few weeks, problem still persists.

If I reboot my system these problems temporarily disappear, but so far sooner or later they come back!

Am I still infected? Please Help!

First,hi to all.I am a new member and i am facing a strange problem with windows explorer in windows 8 pro 64bit.
It doesn't allow me to have more than one program windows open in the same screen. For example,if i open a program's window at the screen,it doesn't allow any other program's window to appear simultaneously above the first one,in parallel. It doesn't show the second window above the opened one or withing its region,so if i want to open another window while having already one opened at the screen,i have to minimize the open one first,in order to open or make changes to the second.I suppose it must be something wrong with explorer.exe i run sfc /scannow and it was ok the folder settings are the default ones and i have also checked the hard disks and they are ok.I assume it must be the registry settings of eplorer.exe or something wrong in the registry, but how can i correct it?

I have tried a normal scan using malwarebytes and adwcleaner but the only thing that popped from malwarebytes was PUP.Optional.Somoto.  I am currently running the ESET online scanner and am willing to run a bunch of tools and post lots of logs

Hello my friends:

I am working on an Acer all in one touch that had a minor malware infection that is now clean.

Websearch was found and cleaned by malwarebytes.

I have scanned with the following and found no issues. Malwarebytes, eset standalone scanner, Superantispyware tech edition stand alone, ADW, TFC, Mbar root kit detector, Kaspersky rescue dvd, AVG Rescue DVD.

What happens is this.
When booted up and using a clean boot no less the pc runs for a few minutes then something invokes Iexplore. then another and another I have seen a max of 7 running and one will be at max memory use.

If I kill Iexplore another opens. if I kill explorer.exe first THEN kill iexplore (all of them) windows levels off and runs normally except I have no desktop or menus.

I have tried sfc /scannow and it fixed a few things on 3 runs but no change in IE behavior.
I have run 3 scandisks no errors no repair no change in IE
I tried to do a repair install and it tells me it cannot set up the machine to restart and exits.

This is an Acer 23" touch all in one with i5 and 4gb memory. I am currently backing up data and settings.
Please let me know what tool you would like run and I will do so Sat before I Give up on Monday and wipe the damn thing out.

Thanks

A:Explorer.exe causes Iexplore to open multiple instances and high mem

Did you reset IE? Try uninstalling and reinstalling in Features

Which version of IE? Check Updates for newer version which might resolve it. Also all Updates installed since one may be a fix.

Otherwise it sounds like deep corruption which might be remedied by Repair Install if SFC can't handle it. It sounds like you cleaned it up thoroughly but search the infection to see if special tools are indicated. Often a wipe is best due to lingering corruption creep.

A:open multiple internet shortcuts in chrome from explorer

I would think that Chrome could Import Favorites/Bookmarks from Internet Explorer [not to be confused with File Explorer]. Or use Internet Explorer to Export the Favorites to a file then use that file for the Import. Every third-party browser I've installed offered to import from Internet Explorer.

Example:
I have 3 files:
File1.xlsx
File2.xlsx
File3.xls
(note the extension of the last file compared to the others)
If I select File1 and File2, and right click, it gives me an option to open them.

However, if I select all the 3 files, the option is no longer there, even though it is the same application that opens them.

I would like Vista to open all my files at the same time, preferably even if the files are not all opened by the same application.
Any help on this would be great please! I've tried to search for this but haven't found a working solution.

Hi Guys,
we have a user who frequently opens multiple files at once,
her system is a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit PC.
when she opens these files they open in a random order when she selects the file in the taskbar.
because she has to keep switching to the next one alphabetically this makes life a little painful for her, it is not a problem with the file types as they open fine and correct in a windows XP environment, the files are all in alphabetical order in explorer,
she has selected them all one by one and opened all of them at once and by holding down the shift key (preferred method)

any ideas?

A:Open multiple files in alphabetical order

Hi,
It is a new feature called thumbnail preview. It cannot be sorted by alphabetical. It is in order automatically when you open the documen first or later.

When opening a program I get a message saying "Choosing to explore 42 items at once may take a long time and cause your computer to respond slowly". Opening document files causes many other files / windows to open as well. Is this a virus or Windows issue?? None of the standard fixes I would normally use will allow me open them to solve it (system restore, task manager, Norton, creating a new user, etc).

I tried to open and intstall a bonus software tool called The+Platnum+Approach.zip as an administrator and right after 75% of my decktop Icons were repalced with mozilla file icons and now the malware will not let me open any *.exe files or run any programs.. The malware just keep asking me if I want to save files to my computer that I have already saved. Firefox recomended that I run the Super Anti Spyware tech edition and that ran and discovered 99 suspicious file which I put in quarantine. I'm guessing that the Super Anti Spyware was able to open because the downlowd file was put into a file randomizer before it was sent to me. The software did nothing to fix my current symptoms though. Also firefox just sent me an updated new version 9.0.1 but the malware won't let me install it. I am using Windows Home 7. I am afriad to intall anymore software until I can have an idea what type of malware this is and have a good strategy to disable it.

For the last few months, when I click on a link in an Outlook message, often several IE windows are opened. If I already have several windows open, each one with tabs, then clicking the link will open an extra tab (or two or three) in each IE window. It doesn't happen with every link that I click and I can't see a pattern. I've just moved from Outlook 2002 to 2007 and thought that this would cure it but it hasn't. I can't remember what if any changes I made to my PC before this all started happening. The PC is an XP SP3 desktop. Any help to cure the problem would be much appreciated.

I have Adobe Reader 11.06 installed. I can open a single pdf perfectly well from Explorer, but when I double click on a second pdf to open it, nothing happens (it doesn't open). This only happens when I already have one instance of Adobe Reader open - opening the first pdf works just fine. And if I close the first one, I can open the other file (I just can't open them simultaneously). Opening a second file from Adobe Reader's open file dialogue also works fine.

Any ideas?

Edit: After some investigation, it seems that when I open multiple PDFs on my SSD (which Windows is installed to), it works perfectly. It only runs into issues when opening PDFs located on another hard drive, which is an issue for me because my Dropbox folder is hosted on a separate hard drive.

I found a similar issue. But in the other case double clicking a PDF would not even open if Adobe wasn't running. It was suggested to uninstall using the cleaner tool:
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

then reinstall. At least one person said that fixed his issue. It may be worth a shot. It may be a good idea to make a restore point first though.
