Activating screensavers

Q: Activating screensavers

I have downloaded some screen savers but cannot find out how to activate them in Vista home version. Is there an easy way to achieve this?

Preferred Solution: Activating screensavers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to TSF!
There are possibly millions of screensavers you can get on the Internet. Some of them are free and others you have to pay for. There are even some that are called "shareware' in that you can only use them for a short period of time and then you will have to delete it from your computer.

Make sure the new screensaver is in the Windows folder so that it will appear on the screensaver selection list.

Right click any blank space on your desktop.

?Select "properties"
?Go to the screensavers tab, you should see a drop-down list'
?Select the screensaver you downloaded.
?Click apply
?Ok

I recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 and one of the differences I noticed was with the screensavers. In 98 you could do a browse and grab a file and add it to your screensaver list but in W2K you do not have that option. So what I'm wondering is, can you take a .bmp file and add it to your screensavers? Can someone help me? I am becoming very frustrated.

Can I take a picture (.bmp) and use it as a screensaver.
I have tried saving it with a .scr extension and placing it in the Winnt file but it is not recognised.

Many Thanks

A:Screensavers

No you can not change an extension like that and expect it to work. You have to do one of two thing. Either write a program that will do that for you (like in VB or any other screen saver program) or buy a sharewaret hat will do that for you.

What you can do is the following :If you found one downdload it but DO NOT OPEN IT!!!Please upload the files at Jotti or Virustotal where you can see if it is infected with any malware. If you are not sure post here the results.

I don't even know if I'm in the right forum to ask for help with this problem, but here it goes. I have Windows 2002 on my computer and the only screensaver that will run is the stupid marquee text. Is there any way to turn this feature on so that I can download screensavers and run them? The marquee text one is reeeeealy bugging me!

A:Can't run screensavers

Hiya

Go to Control Panel | Display. Screensaver tab. You can select the one you want to change to using the drop down menu, or you can turn it off if you select None.

If you do download screensavers, as they're scr file types, you'd be best to virus scan them, as many viruses are created as scr (scripts). Also, I'm assuming you're on Windows 2000, so place them into your Windows\System32 folder in Windows explorer, then choose them as explained above.

I am having a problem with a screensaver in Windows XP Professional that I hope someone here can help me with. It is called simply Clock.scr, now it works in every operating system from Windows 3.11 to Windows 2000 Professional.
Windows XP Professional 32 will not see the file as an scr extention. The only way that I can get it to work is to leave it on the desktop and double click it to start it.

How can I make Windows XP see Clock.scr, as a screensaver

A:ScreenSavers

Windows XP hides common file extensions.

Copy the file into the C:\Windows\System32 folder. You should also be able to right click on the file and select Install. Then it should work.

This isn't a big problem, just a question. My brother has a screensaver called Aquarium on his computer, he said it came with the computer. Recently I downloaded a screensaver from "my picture" file. It did not come in very well with very low pixel resolution. I tried to get rid of it and can not. I even tried to install another screensaver from a free screensaver site and now i have 2 screensavers. If I let my mouse sit for more than a minute, the screensaver appears, it takes about 30 seconds to get rid of it and then the next screensaver appears and that takes about 15 secs to get rid of, then i get back to my click in page, and finally can get back to what i am doing. This is very annoying. How can I get rid of both these screensavers? Thanks

Hello! New here and need help lol (I would try to give as much information possible)
This is not like a real big problem, but I would still like to know how to solve this problem.
First I have a Windows Vista 64bit. (In case you need to know)
Anyways, I recently downloaded some screensavers and I don't know how to put them on the list of screensavers already installed.
The screensavers files came on zip and when extracted the files show so I can install them. So I did this, and everything went great. My laptop (ya its a laptop) even said the screensavers were installed succesfully. At the end of installation the screensaver windows shows up, I check the list and the new ones installed and the ones already installed showed on laptop. I watch the preview of the new one installed and it worked great. So I put apply for the new one and closed the windows.

The problem it's that after I set this up, I tried to wait and see if it showed up, but nothing happened. So I went to personalize and screen saver and noticed that the new screensavers do not appear with the ones already installed. (not on the list)

What I have tried, is trying to put the files of the screensavers on the system32 folder. Also I noticed that when I installed both of the screensavers they appear on the SysWOW64 folder. (Dont know if this has anything to do with the problem)
I also I have tried unistalling and installing again. But none of these ways worked for me.

Right now I erased both screensavers files... Read more

Hello to all. Long time again.

I just downloaded some Screensavers that are *.exe files not *.scr files. It looks like the drop down list in the Screen Saver Settings can't not be exceeded so every new installation of a SSaver kicks the previous one out. Very annoying. Is there anyway to add new SSavers anywhere somehow manually? A fix. Thanks.

Got this new HP Pavilion w/windows xp media center. It has the AMD Athlon 64x2 dual w/ core processor 4200+. It also has 2.20GHz, 1.93 GB of Ram and comes with a google pictures screensaver. It doesn't take over the screen very fast and it's not very impressive. I'm supposed to be able to use my own downloaded pixs, but I don't know how to do that yet. I'm wondering if I really need to download a screensaver. Are they really necessary? If so could someone recommend a safe, free one that is simple to use and easy to download from the web. Also, aren't there certain keys you can hit that tell you the system properties immediately? Does anyone know what they are? Thanks for any and all advice.

I'm making screensavers, and trying different size pictures- resolution and it all basically looks the same.

The pictures come from my camera at 144 resolution, but seems like I've seen that the average monitor only shows 72. So, having them higher would be a waste and just make the files larger?

Someone else once told me to use 800x600 pixel size.

if I set them as "enlarge picture to full screen" they seem to look alike, anyway.

But, one way might be a smaller file and faster opening, etc?

I thought maybe I could get some facts for sure about it.

Thanks,

Carrie

Can anyone give me any info, (or tutorials) about making screensavers?

Last year I looked into this, and was amazed to find people were making them and selling them (or offering them for sale) on ebay and Amazon. I don't know how many are actually sold but I enjoy the idea of making them- anyway. I always thought screensavers were something not everyone uses (or just for decoration/fun) and could be gotten FREE. But, everyone I ever got free seemed to have adware with it, and sometimes messed up my computer.

At the time (last year) I bought a screensaver maker program (ACez) that stopped working right after awhile (sometimes not at all) and the place I bought it from (online) wasn't much help in correcting this. Vague suggestions about the size of the pictures and resolution, etc. Or, not answering at all. I had been using the same size/resolution all along and it worked when I first got it. I tried reinstalling it, downloading it again (I had bought the key) etc. When it doesn't work (which got to be most of the time) a box would come up saying "this has been created with the trial version"

Anyway, that's another story, and I got discouraged making screensavers at the time.

Now, I'm back to this (idea) again. With another program. I have a lot of ideas of how I might do this as a business, and it ties in with my love of photography and computer graphics (PSP and Photoshop) etc.

I'd like to find out more about it this time. Whats t... Read more

Unless i set my screensavers to start after 1minute, they will never turn on. My monitor power save feture doesn't work either.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer (mouse) that i think may be the culprit, but i'm not sure.

I've tried all my screensavers, they all act the same. If they're set to 1 minute, they work fine. If they're set to two minutes or higher, the never turn on.

I don't recall how long ago this started, but I know it wasn't like this forever so perhaps it has somehting to do with XP service pack 2?

I don't have another wired mouse to check to see if that's the problem, but someone suggested that might be it.

What to do?

A:None of my screensavers work

You should be able to check the theory by just unplugging the USB mouse. Even if you have no wired mouse it should work just to test, just use the kbd to awake pc and replug mouse to see if the mouse is to blame.
