Dell XPS13 + Dell U3417W 34" monitor (3440x1440 px) - how to connect?

Q: Dell XPS13 + Dell U3417W 34" monitor (3440x1440 px) - how to connect?

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Preferred Solution: Dell XPS13 + Dell U3417W 34" monitor (3440x1440 px) - how to connect?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, don't really understand resolutions too well.  Will all these 3 products work optimally together.  I assume the recommended thinkpad Ultradock and P51s (UHD screen @ 3840x2160) will work to pass the full 3840x2160 resolution through to the monitor using a displayport cable.  The monitor has a native resoltion of 3440x [email protected] Will they be matched up nicely, or should we choose a different combination? Is there anything we need to order?(P51s, Displayport cable, monitor, ultradock) thanks

I am considering purchasing the Dell 34" Ultra-wide monitor which has a maximum resolution of 3440x1440 and I'm hoping for help on what hardware I would need to run it. I don't play any games and use it primarily for Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.

My work laptop has an Intel HD Graphics Card 3000. I've looked that up and see that its maximum resolution is 2560 x 1600 with DisplayPort, so I guess it would run at 2560 x 1440 on the new monitor. Would that look OK? Unfortunately I cannot upgrade anything on the work laptop.

My personal computer has an ATI Radeon 4200, which also has a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600, and it only has a VGA and DVI output, so I think I should upgrade this to something that can handle 3440x1440 resolution. As I said, I'm not a gamer, and my personal computer is several years old and has only a 300W power supply, so I'm not in the market for anything high end. My computer does have an available PCI Express x16 slot. The graphics card I'm considering is the GTX 750Ti, $109 on Amazon. This has HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort outputs. (I've read mixed views on whether HDMI can handle that output, or if DisplayPort is needed) If I can get 3440x1440 resolution through HDMI, I'm considering the GT 710 at half the price and lower recommended power supply.

Dear all,
Wonder if you can help me solve a problem. I have just received an XPS13-9350 from the Outlet last week. It was certified refurbished.
I've tried to connect a VGA monitor to it via a USB-C to HDMI, then HDMI to VGA cable. The HDMI to VGA cable works perfectly on my Inspiron 15. The setup also works if I full power down the XPS13, attach USB-C to HDMI to VGA to monitor, and then boot up. The external monitor then works almost perfectly (with the exception of Netflix's video player which makes it flicker blue - Youtube and local video are completely fine).
What I cannot do is plug in this monitor whilst the XPS13 is on already - which is inconvenient as I move on and off desk a lot, and powering down the computer every time is unhelpful. Oddly, the monitor will also not be recognised if I simply Restart from Windows. I have to fully power down and plug everything in before switching the computer on again.
I have updated BIOS, video card and Thunderbolt drivers since and none of these has solved the problem. My system info is:
DELL XPS13-9350
Windows 10
Core i7-6560U, Intel Iris 540 graphics

My mouse is connecting fine, but it doesnt power up easily. If I stop using it for a few minutes, it powers down, presumably to save the battery. But then it doesnt start up again when I twist the two halves of the mouse.
I keep twisting the mouse slowly to power up and nothing happens, and then randomly, after several tries, it will power up again.
I had this problem with the same mouse and, thinking it was faulty, ordered another, but the same thing occurred.
I like the mouse's shape and weight, but this power issue is a bugbear.

I want to view Netflix "view now" videos online with an external monitor. What's the easiest way to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

A:Adding a 22" Dell External Monitor to 15" Dell M70 Laptop

Get a 22" Dell monitor and connect it to the vga port on your laptop. There is an Fn + (some other key) that will enable the external monitor. You can press the Fn+(some other key) combination so that either the laptop display is used, the external display is used or have it set so both are used for the display. Typically the combination is the Fn key plus one of the F keys at the top of you keyboard.

I just got my Dell XPS 13 back from factory repair/service with all functions tested. I was running Windows 10 before, but the Dell repair service re-installed Windows 8.1 during the repair. So I installed Windows 10 (the free version from Microsoft for users of assistive technology) and everything went smoothly. But once I rebooted, the computer is stuck on the Dell logo and will not load the OS. I pressed F12 and ran the Diagnostics, and no error was found.
What can I do now ?
Thanks !!

2 questions arise concerning the 'revert', one is whether the computer was originally available with Win7, if not there may be no drivers for some of the resources on the motherboard. The other question is about whether you have a Product Key for Win7 or if a copy of Win7 has to be purchased [may be getting harder to find]. Being a new purchase it could be surmised it can't be easily 'reverted' to something not originally installed.

Hi - I currently have a Dell OptiPlex™ GX270 to which I would like to connect an HP monitor. The monitor has a VGA cable, a DVI cable and an audio cable (and obviously a power cable). The Dell has VGA input, and, as far as I can tell not DVI. Do I need to be able to connect DVI in order to use this monitor? Also, monitor has built-in speakers. I am assuming the audio cable for that would go into the same input that I currently use for my free standing speakers. The monitor has that Bright View Technology which looks quite nice. My system has 512 ram, Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor and plenty of hard disk space. Bottom line - is this pc up to the task of this monitor connection? Even though this Dell is sort of old, it still runs fine and I see no need to dump it at this juncture - especially since any new pc's only come with Win7. I like xp. Anyway, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

A:How do I connect an external monitor to a new Dell XPS 13?

The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.
The cable is available on the Dell website here

Hi, I have a new XPS13 9350.  I have not enabled Bitlocker or added any admin or other passwords in BIOS.  Using W10 64bit.  So as far as I know, I have a Windows PIN to log in once I boot the machine and a Windows 10 password that goes to my Microsoft account.
I have checked the BIOS, TPM is activated and enabled.
I went to Windows Trusted Platform Module tonight and tried to set a TPM password.  It appears that there is already a password set . . . though I have never set one.  If I click Prepare the TPM it asks for a password.  If click change password . . . it asks for a password.  I tried my PIN and Windows password but no luck.
I went to Dell.com and there was a video on Enabling TPM but I got a "Invalid Content Specified" every time a clicked on the video.  dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/videos/videoPlayer/1uaXZjdjqJhzsW0F7Ha4NpM-J0LzTEwq
In short, for a new Dell Laptop - where a user has not set any unique TPM related passwords, is there something I am missing here?  Do I need to set an Admin password first to make this work?  Have done a good deal of online research but no clear answer.  Unfortunately I cannot find any detailed XPS13 user guide beyond a simple Reference Guide and basic Service Manual.
Thanks.  Kent

EDIT: Rewritten for clarity
On Realtek ALC3861 Audio Driver (ver., A00) for Windows 10, there is no longer a button labeled "Show Meters" under Speakers/Headphones > Maxx Audio Pro in the bottom right corner (please see attached screenshot). This button in previous versions of the driver for Windows 7 opened a new window with sliders to balance front and back speakers in a surround sound setup.
What I did:
Updated my OS from 7 to 10 and updated the Realtek audio drivers accordingly - to the above mentioned version.
What I expected:
The "Show Meters" button would be present in the newest Realtek driver.
What really happened:
Upon upgrade to the newest driver, the "Show Meters" button disappeared.

I have reinstalled the newest driver multiple times with no avail and tried the driver from Windows 8.1 and the default driver from Realtek with worse affects (Dell Audio window is missing most elements/drop down options, etc)

If anyone would know how to address the issue, if this is intentional, or who to escalate this to, I would appreciate it.

A:Latest Version of Dell Audio is missing "Show Meters" button. (Windows 10, Dell XPS 8700)

I feel that I should be more observant. In Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Select the Realtek device > Properties > Levels there are the exact changes I need. I don't know why I didn't notice until now. Could explain why there was no "Show Meters" button in this release but I thought Windows 7 also had the same leveling and there was the leveling in Dell Audio as well.
I'm still going with a new sound card from Creative however, seen a super nice $70 one that looks awesome and seems to have features to match.

HELP! I am trying to connect my Dell U2412M 24" monitor to my Lenovo 720 Yoga Laptop.  I need to see a large screen for a spreadsheet for a project that is due immediatelly. I last used this monitor with my prior coputer, with a simple HDMI cable.  No such port on my 720, as far as I can see... 1.  Is there a hidden HDMI port on the 720- Yoga? 2.  If not, Can I use the regular, "box" USB port?  I do NOT need audio, just video. 3.  What specific cable will work?  Cheap is best, this monitor is not touch screen and was in a vehicle file and may not even work well.  It does turn on though... 4.  MUST I use the USB-C port on the Lenovo 720?  I strongly prefer not to, as it is occupied already, and I don't want to buy an expensive double port gizmo.  I just need to hook up this monitor, and quickly, for video. 5.  If I MUST use the USB-C port on the 720, same question as above, what is the CHEAPEST cable or gizmo that I need?  Where to get (Amazon, Best Buy, Micro Center, etc.).  A link to a specific product would be greatly appreciated. I am VERY frustrated!  I tried to contact Micro Center, Dell, Lenovo and Best Buy by chat, phone, etc.  No luck with any of those!  So, please help! Thank you!

Is there anything I can do there to change so it will boot into Windows 10?

My Dell Ultrabook 13's screen suddenly winked out during use and now I can't get it to boot up at all. The battery's charged up (the indicator shows 5 lights), but when I try to start it up, nothing happens.  Holding the power down for a few seconds while the laptop is unplugged gets the backlit keyboard to flash, but the screen's totally dark.
Oddly enough, nothing at all happens when I have the laptop plugged in and try to start it.  No flashing keyboard or anything.

Any advice?

A:Dell XPS13 Ultrabook won't start up

It sounds like it could be a couple of things.

1. Either your motherboard is not properly accepting the voltage from the battery or ac.
2. Your hard drive has errors.
3. Your memory has errors.

I would try doing these first:
1.  If you have access to the battery, remove it and ac from the computer, hold down the power button for 1 minute and then plug the ac into the computer (leave the battery out) and see if it boots.
2. Remove the hard rive from the laptop, leave it out, and then see if the computer boots to POST without the hard drive. If it boots to POST, your hard drive may have failed.
3. If you have access to the memory and there is more than one RAM stick installed, remove both and then put only one back into DIMM slot A and see if the computer boots (try each memory stick, by-itself, in the main DIMM slot.). I would also suggest, if you have a spare computer, to download a little program called memtes, load it onto a dvd or USB, boot to it, and let the test run overnight.

I have Dell XPS 13 L221X. I updated it to Windows 10. I see the laptop heats up (upper half of the bottom of the laptop) and it then randomly shuts down. I feel it happens when I am loading a page that has video, ads etc, I hear sometime fan go on, and it then shuts down. Invariably, when this happens seems like the laptop has heated up. Any thoughts?

A:Dell XPS13 Heats Up and Shuts Down

Given the age of the system, if it's never been cleaned out internally, it's time to remove and thoroughly clean the heatsink-fan assembly and replace the thermal compound that sits between that and the CPU (and/or GPU) heat slug.

I’ve just received a Dell XPS13 which I’ve just reinstalled Windows10 and updated the Dell drivers - esp the Dell Displaylink DA100 which I use to plug in to the network cable for Fog imaging.
Irregardless of what I’ve done, when I boot the Dell laptop into Bios I do not see the network boot option in this Dell laptop , like I did for my lenovo laptops and desktops. There’s only 2 boot sequence options: Windows Boot and UEFI Samsung SSD PM851 M2.2280 256GB.

Has someone had a similar issue, appreciate some suggestions how to network boot this machine ?

I'm having problems with the monitor of my Dell XPS13 laptop. It's been behaving like this ever since I upgraded to Windows 10. I never thought much of it, as switching my laptop to sleep mode and turning it on again would usually fix it.
I'm not sure how to describe the issue I'm having with my laptop, but basically, sometimes when I try to turn on my laptop, 3/4 of the screen would be black. When this happens, I can't see much on my laptop screen. I would usually apply the method mentioned above to fix it, and it would work most of the time. If it didn't, I would force shutdown my laptop, and usually 1-2 would do the trick. (I tried not to perform force shutdowns though. It's only when the 'sleep mode' method doesn't work that I'd use it)
So today, when I turned on my laptop, the issue came back, and it's much worse than before. The same screen problem happened, but my method of fixing it just wouldn't work anymore... I tried force shutting down a few times (not much of a choice, as I can't see much on the screen) and turning my laptop back on, but the issue just wouldn't go away.
I don't really know how to go about fixing this, so I would really appreciste it if anyone here could help me resolve this issue. (I know force shutting down is bad, but I'm at my wit's end :( )

Hello everyone. after my last "dell update" ive had some SERIOUS issues with the battery.. i can charge it to 100% shut down the screen lid, and its discharged next morning when i wake up.

i live in Denmark, and the warratny rules are propably different here in other countries, but here we can call the sales place, and open up a warranty case, here at dell it seems that we are FORCED to go through a lot of different steps before being able to open up a warranty case. isnt there any way to avoid all those "trouble shotting" with AI bots they have hired to filter out the customer's wanting to open up a warranty case

i have paid for premium support, but when i called the last night they wanted me to call back, but for whatever reason it was, i dont know
I now have a spacebar that is squeaky, a battery that is discharging, and a monitor that randomly starts blinking. oh yeah and if you have the dell sound software turned on and you try to dim the light on the monitor by using FN+ F11 or 12 you get a lot of statis noise in the speakers.

Pls can someone help me, and the regular warranty is about to run out in 17 days, and i want this resolved asap. I am afraid that dell might postpone this to make the warranty run out :(
im new to using Dell services and dell forum's but it seem like a very big job to open up a simple warranty case

USB would mean DisplayLink, which has a number of drawbacks compared to attaching the display to an output directly controlled by the GPU, such as possible compression artifacts and/or motion judder during times of high CPU and/or USB utilization, or simply when large portions of the display area are changing simultaneously.  Additionally, due to a Windows limitation, your GeForce dPGU would not be able to accelerate any content displayed on a DisplayLink-attached display. But about your specific issue, given that you're trying to run 4K, have you tried just swapping the HDMI cable?  Not all HDMI cables are equal when it comes to pushing very high bandwidth.  That said, I don't know if that system's HDMI port will even do 4K @ 60 Hz, since that requires HDMI 2.0 and most Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which would limit you to 4K @ 30 Hz or 1440p @ 60 Hz.

I have just started to us the new Dell XPS 13 (with Touchscreen).
The issue being faced is with the 'Spacebar'. If tapped on  the right edge it inserts a double space! This happens if  the keystroke is held for a slightly long duration.
I have reduced the repeat rate and the repeat delay but it doesnt solve the problem.
Any ideas?

A:Keyboard issues with new Dell XPS13 (2015)

I'm facing the same issues as the OP and i'm also on the latest BIOS version. Please advise on  how I can resolve this issue. Extra space was added due to the  issue

If your computer is brand new call Dell and ask for a refund or an exchange. It seems that its the only way to fix this issue...

@DELL-Jennifer K
Dell have been fighting keyboard issues for well over a year now on nearly all of your high-end notebooks (Latitude E7450, E6440, E5440). It reflects very poorly on Dell... terrible QA and QC.

Y9N00  47Whr, 6-Cell battery for Dell XPS13 L321X Ultrabook. Purchased in US. Brought home to India.
Dell India support team has washed hands of this product stating warranty lapse.
Dont want duplicate compatible batteries.
Original Dell battery Y9N00  is not available in online websites in India.
Searched  real shops and roamed streets to check for original battery.
Fedex and DHL have stopped shipping batteries. Battery is available and in stock in Amazon US
If anyone can suggest anything about how I can get battery to India it would be really great.

A:Dell XPS13 L321X Y9N00 battery

What is the issue with the current battery on the system?
You could contact our team to get a quote for a new battery here - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
I found one battery on eBay India - http://bit.ly/2q9wm10, however, the authenticity of the battery depends on the reseller. It could be a new battery or a refurbished battery.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My Dell XPS13 is now showing "Battery Not Detected" in mouseover of the battery icon. Removing the powercable removes power from the laptop. It was working until today and the device is only 2 months old.
Both the Microsoft AC Adapter driver and the Microsoft-ACPI Battery driver is up to date.  I cannot update the BIOS as no battery is detected but when I check the BIOS it says that the 45W AC adapter is connected.
When I run diagnostics I get the following message at Step 5 (Running Your Tests) "We are unable to find the selected device. The device driver for your selected diagnostic is either not installed or installed incorrectly. Please ensure your device is enabled through your device manager or go to Drivers and Downloads to install the latest driver."
Any software suggestions please? I spend a lot of time on trains so only having a laptop that works when plugged into the mains is the equivalent of having a desktop.

The battery has failed - if you're under warranty, call Dell for a battery replacement.  If you're out of warranty, you can get a repair quote from Dell - or take the system to the shop of your choice to have the battery replaced -- or order a battery and replace it yourself (it's not that difficult to replace, though you'll need a Torx driver to do the job).

My previous laptop is an XPS 13 (L322X) which I have been using successfully with both a U3011 and a U3014 monitor via mini DisplayPort.
My new XPS 13 (9530) has a USB-C connector which I understood to be able to drive a DisplayPort monitor via a suitable adapter cable which I have. The laptop can drive the U3011 OK, but when I connect it to the U3014 there is no display, the laptop cannot even detect an external monitor. I have installed the latest driver  updates from the Dell support website to no effect.
I have also checked the monitor settings and DisplayPort 1.2 is disabled by default which I beleive is correct.
Can you offer a solution to this issue?
