I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Everyone, Once again, after a Windows Update (Windows 10 Insider Preview 17063.1000 rs_prerelease), my Fingerprint Reader stopped working. I see on the Device Manager a ! sign for Biometric devices > Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) ... Tried reinstallinf the driver with no luck. Driver date: 10/27/2017, Driver version: 5.1.327.26 ... This is happening sometimes after those updates, where I often find myself with failing drivers for Thunderbolt/HDMI-out, or GPU's (both onboard and Nvidia) and the Fingerprint reader. Really annoying. Hope someone can help !

Upgrading a Windows 8.1 installation and it stuck at getting devices ready at 2%. No BSOD. Has to be specific to 8.1 as I have already installed 10 on a clean partition with no issues on this machine. All drivers up to date. Did try removing Avast. No wireless devices attached. Not really bothered but an upgrade would save a few hours. Tried it twice and it sticks in the same place "Getting devices ready 2%" A reboot restores previous OS.
There is a lot written about this error applying to Windows 8 and wireless devices in laptops....this is a huge desktop machine.

A:Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

I suppose when it ran the compatibility checker, it showed no problems?

There was a time when Bluetooth devices caused problems. If you have any, you might try disabling them in the Bios.

I have not done an install over 8.1. The one time I tried, it said it could not with Media Center installed, so I stopped.

No log files left after the failed attempt?

I am trying to install the latest Insider Preview and I keep getting the error in the title. I have searched the internet to see if there is a solution. I tried SFC scan and it found corrupt files and corrected them. I ran this twice to make sure no other issues.

I click the Retry and it acts like its downloading the file. It does the download sequence. It installs the first downloaded updates then it downloads more updates. Completes the download but remains on Downloading updates 100% for a long period of time then displays the error.

I would appreciate any suggestions to correct this.

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?

Doesn't matter what antivirus you use, it will not going to protect you 100% all the time. That basically say, as long you have a good common sense, Windows Defender should do fine. You can add Malwarebytes Anti Exploit to protect against exploits, and Malwarebytes Anti Ransomware BETA to protect against ransomware, and Malwarebytes Anti Malware free and Hitman Pro for weekly on demand scanner.

A:Annoying nag about Insider Preview

This one?

It's a minor but annoying bug in 1607 (didn't happen in 1511). It's triggered by clicking on the 'Windows Insider Programme' option in 'Update & Security'. If (like me) you are not an insider then you cannot get this message to go away.

To remove it you'll have to use regedit. Got to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\UI\Visibilityand delete all keys except the one called (Default).

A:Insider preview expired

I would need more info.

1. Before there is the now expired Insider Preview, what was the previous operating system running in that computer ?
If it was Win 7.................... which edition ? Home Basic, Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate ?
If it was Win 8/8.1.....................which edition ? Home or Pro ?
Was the copy genuine ?

2. Do you have the product key for that previous operating system.

My computer installed this update (Windows 10 Insider Preview 14965) back around the middle of November and I have noticed two things. First -- Microsoft Edge took it upon itself to reinstate itself as my "Default Browser" and secondly now I keep having issues when navigating the internet. Basically I will click a link and the browser will pretend like it's going to go but then tell me it can't find the page so I just hit refresh and ta-da the page is there. It happens on any website (whether Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc) and in Edge, Chrome and IE.

Anyone else having this type of issue? I also play games that rely on the internet and I haven't had any issues when them nor do I have any issues pinging websites even when I let ping run for 20 to 30 minutes while I'm browsing the web and experience the issue. I'm tempted to uninstall the update but if others updated and aren't seeing the issue then I may just have a weird DNS issue going on.

Thoughts?

Do you have a good backup from before 14271? Can't really tell, but from the way you describe it, and you had "issues",and refresh not working.....sounds like a restore is due to before 14271 or a clean install.

Hi Guys and Gals

I used to have windows 10 Insider Preview running on a separate partition on my laptop, until recently.
I had a choice at boot-up as to which operating system I wanted, either the Insider or my regular Windows 10 Pro, then, all of a sudden the choices were not there. I just couldn't get into the Insider system.
I thought that if I deleted the system I would be able to download a fresh installation, but, I just can't find an installation that will load. I keep getting the error message "winload.exe has expired" and there is nothing I can do to get my Insider programme to load and work.
Please, please, has anybody got any ideas as to what I can do next, I still want to be a member of the Insider programme, but can't download a loadable replacement.

Waiting with fingers crossed

Hi
If I register myself in the Insider Program, can I try to install Windows 10 on a machine that has Windows XP already running? Can I leave the program at any time? I know that If I leave the program my Windows 10 license become inactive. In that case can I reinstall Windows XP again, or I can't because there is already the registration of the componentes in Microsoft servers when I was running 10 on the machine?
Thanks in advance

A:Testing Insider Preview on XP machine

The first question is whether the WinXP can meet the requirements for Win10. The next question would be if Win10 will have drivers for the devices on the WinXP computer, most times won't. I've not heard of WinXP working with the digital entitlement of Win10. Win10 was not offered as a free Upgrade to WinXP [only Win7 w/SP1 and Win8.1] so would assume that wouldn't be a path for Upgrading. And I haven't seen a Retail version of Win10 that can Upgrade over WinXP or WinVista. That said, I have Upgraded a couple of WinXP computers to Win10 but only after Upgrading to Win7 w/SP1 so as to get the freebie. There were drivers available for those Win7 computers which will be a key item for the ability to Upgrade, Win10 may or may not work with Win7 drivers.

Yesterday, we began an exciting new chapter in the Windows story with the announcement of Windows 10 and what it means for our enterprise customers. As part of our new approach to building and delivering Windows 10 to customers, we want to make sure we get feedback in real-time as the development process is ongoing. We?re kicking this off today with the launch of the Windows Insider Program. If you?re comfortable with using pre-release software, you can join the Windows Insider Program today to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview and try out features like the new Start menu, multiple desktops, snap enhancements, and others.

As a member of the Windows Insider community, you will have an active role in helping us build Windows 10 and be among the first to see new stuff. You will automatically receive new builds as we release them with the latest features we?re experimenting with ? and our freshest bugs. Some of these features may not be fully ?baked? ? meaning they may not work correctly as you are seeing these features as we work on them. And there?s no guarantee that what you see will be part of the final release. But as a Windows Insider, you?ll have the ability to impact and influence those types of product decisions. You will be able to use the Windows Feedback app to report on any issues you encounter with the Windows 10 Technical Preview or tell us about something you like or dislike. And you will be able to ask questions and talk with us and other Insiders thro... Read more

As is so often the case with me, this scenario begins with everything working perfectly fine.  I was having no issues with the integrated Beats? audio on my Pavilion 1414 running Windows 10 Insider Preview build 15601.rs2_release.170315-1424 so naturally, I felt compelled to improve things... I installed a Creative Sounblaster Audigy 5/RX sound card, carefully following all the directions (which I faithfully do the first time I install something).  I disabled integrated sound via BIOS, removed/uninstalled the Beats? software and then installed the sound card in the machine, turned it on and installed the full package (drivers and software) from the DVD that was included with the sound card, allowing at install the automatic update via internet.  Hooked up my Bose 2.1 sound system in the LINE OUT jack on the card itself as illustrated in the less-than-convenient Installation Guide  that starts out as 1 5x5 inch square that unfolds like a roadmap on steroids into a 3x4 FOOT poster, resigning myself to the fact that it would simply never be folded back to its original size and moving on with the task at hand: Sound with quality so high that any Audiophile like myself would be in heaven with the music I was about to play. I loaded up my favorite Tina Turner song (who ELSE would one use for a sound card's maiden run!?), turned up the volume as I settled back in my chair and, with a deep cleansing sigh, I clicked PLAY... and wait for it..... I installed Windows 10 in a VMware VM. This was Build 1151 which took my Windows 8.1 and finished installed without incident. For some reason it did not activate online. However I got the Insider Fast Track Builds OK and it upgraded to Tech Preview Edition 11082. Does it even matter that Windows is not activated in this scenario? Is there any registry hack to remove the notification? It only cosmetic it seems so no big deal but still ..

A:Windows 10 Insider Preview is not activated - does it matter?

Look at slmgr /xpr

Either you are activated or you aren't. It has nothing to do with insider build versions, Microsoft accounts or anything else.

All insider builds have watermarks (and always have) - that is normal.
