Is my HP laptop, compatible with 64bit virtualization

Q: Is my HP laptop, compatible with 64bit virtualization

Hi, Is my HP G62 320 AMD 64bit laptop compatible with 64bit virtualization? Because I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 XFCE 64bit and Virtual Box, I also enabled SVM from bios. Other people are telling me I have to enable other options in bios that do not seem to exist in my bios. I have a 64bit Windows 8 install disc, but Virtual Box is insisting on booting as 32bit and of course Windows 64 is rejecting 32 boot. My bios seems to be very limited in options. Or is there a setting in either Mint or Virtual Box that has to be enabled or disabled? I want to install Windows 8 64 into Linux Mint 17.3 XFCE 64, as virtual.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hopefully somebody here can help me. I've looked around everywhere to find a solution for this issue, but this problem differs from all the threads you can find in many forums around there: it already worked well for me

My problem:
I want to run a 64-bit virtual machine with VirtualBox on my 64-bit host OS (Win 10 Home).
When I created the VM, there was already an option for 64-bit guests in VirtualBox settings, so I installed Windows 64-bit and everything was fine.

Now, apparently after uninstalling McAfee Internet Security with the official Removal Tool, I can't start my 64-bit VM anymore. (but I can't find any McAfee related solutions on Google as well) Instead, I get errors that say the 64-bit guest 'will not be able to boot', Hyper-V virtualization errors, etc. - no wonder, the 64-bit option is suddenly completely gone, when I take a look at the VirtualBox settings. Therefore I can't create or use any 64-bit VM anymore.

After searching for solutions for many hours I have to add the following:

There was never an option for Hyper-V under 'programs and features', I guess because I use the Home edition of Win10 which doesn't include Hyper-V.

In my BIOS there is no option with virtualization, VT,... or any similar option. I googled and it seems like my Acer notebook would enable it by default but locks the option to disable it in the BIOS (like I said, it already worked perfectly)

I can't even get my files from the virtual disk image, because only a 64-bit guest OS c... Read more

Hi, just next to your post is mine, where on my new custom PC I found the Acceleration tab in Virtualbox greyed out.

I could not install Win 8 as a VM, and got an error about VT-X....... a setting which is under the Acceleration tab.

Like you, I found my UEFI offered no Virtualisation setting.. a dumbed down set of options.
The supplier immediately understood my problem, and said that Virtualisation was normally enabled on their PCs (on many in general it is not). So I sent mine back- they have another identical model where it's working.

What surprises me from your report is that you got as far as installing Win 10 as a VM if that was true in your case. If you also ran it, and the Acceleration tab is not greyed out, that suggests Virtualisation technologies are enabled on your PC. I'm not clear if you got that far.

On that basis looking for Hyper-V will not help (and it's not available in Home as you say).

Hi
I wanted to checkmy cpu type before w10 is ready, currently I am running w7 and in system information it states my system type is 32bit but when I checked my cpu info it stated its operating mode 64bit = Yes

here is the link http://products.amd.com/pages/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=561&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

just to make sure will I be able to install and run 64bit w10? And by the way I have 8gb of ram installed so it would be worth installing 64bit v.

When I do a query through the computer, it says the processor architecure is x86 which means 32 bit.

Wondering if anyone knows what I have on my hands here. Do I have a 32 bit processor or a 64 bit processor?

Thanks!

A:Best c++ compiler compatible with Vista 64bit?

There's no such thing as the "best" compiler because the task is far too complex and multi-dimensional. It's like asking who's best at maths

Any compiler you've actually heard of will be perfectly fine. If it makes you feel better, inefficiencies introduced by your code are going to outweigh compiler inadequacies by several orders of magnitude. Nothing personal - I'm in the same category with you.

A:Older CD not compatible with Windows 7 64bit

danielstern96, can you tell us if this CD was created by an older software, or what?

If it was simply images written to CD, these should be viewable.

My suspicion is that this family tree CD was created with some type of software, designed for an earlier version of Windows. If you happen to have Windows 7 Pro or above, MS offers a free virtual XP machine, otherwise known as Windows Virtual PC with XP Mode. If the software was designed or works with XP, you can install it to XP Mode, if it requires a license, you'll need both the installer (.exe) file & license key. Note that we cannot promise this will work, depending on the age of the software.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

I've ran across a couple of things myself that wouldn't open in Windows 7,  however the CD's were created in the 90's. This would predate XP.

Good Luck.

A:Need cisco VPN client compatible with 64bit Vista

If you are referring to Linksys quick VPN which is also a Cisco VPN client, you have to know what router/ vpn firewall you are connecting to.

Can you tell us the make and model of the device that you will be connecting to?

The Cisco VPN client is available free of charge at the cisco website under drivers and software downloads (both 32 bit and 64 bit versions are there).

In any case if you are trying to establish a connection to either a WRVS4400N or a WAP4400N, then Vista will not work with it as the IP stack has changed in Vista and the way the connection is made in Vista to this router/VPN tunnel cannot be established. You may read the release notes on the Linksys website.

Anyone know of a good free Cloning program that is 64bit compatible? for Vista ultimate being upgraded to win7

That can be copied to a reformatted harddrive after a major colaps of the os or virus damage?

I also want to be-able to do a periodic erasure of said hd for security and privacy purposes. which I would do before formatting the HD again.

I like to download a try a lot of free stuff and as you know it can mess your system up good and proper, to the point, its better to start over from a cloned image of factory settings that are up to date .

I know that this question probably gets asked a lot of time, but my problem is that I can't seem to figure out where to the disable hardware virtualization option is in BIOS.

I have looked upon all the sections, and there is no option that lets me disable this feature. For example in the section named Security I am allowed to set some passwords (3 passwords in total - don't remember for what they were exactly) but pretty much nothing else is there. The first section is called Information and you are not allowed to change anything on that page.

Finally, I have also verified that my processor has the option of hardware virtualization technology through the Intel Processor Identification Utility. My CPU is Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2Ghz)

(Extra Note: I need to disable this feature in order to run Mac OS X on VMWare)

So, to make a long story short, I have a computer I'm supposed to fix for a friend. It gets lots of graphics artifacts, black boxes, colored dots, etc. It has an Asrock motherboard (an unusual board with both AGP and PCI-E) and a GeForce 7900gs (AGP).

After much reading, I have determined that this is a solved problem . Its a driver problem on Asrock boards with nvidia AGP graphics cards. The solution is to install a (very) old version of the nvidia drivers (forceware 97.52). This is described by user Brainwashed here:
Wonky Screen Corruption Problem

But I am having trouble finding and installing a win7, 64bit version of this driver. I know one exists, because in the very next reply in that thread, user Vighi says he found one for Vista64, and it worked (he has win7). But he doesn't give a link to it.

I tried to find one on my own with google. I found this one:
v97.52 VISTA 64bit | Nightly Build - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

But its on a laptop video website, and might be for a laptop video card. Its also a "modified Inf" driver, whatever that means. Anyway, I ran the setup file, but it wouldn't install. In safe mode, it said it couldn't find a driver compatible with my hardware. In normal mode, it says I have the wrong operating system, that it won't work with a 64bit OS.

Thoughts? Its really frustrating having identified the problem, and found a solution that almost everyone says worked for them, but not be able to make it work myself.

Thanks guys!

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of going for OpenOffice.org, Thunderbird, and Sunbird/Lightning instead of MS Office - MS Office is just too expensive! Could someone please confirm whether these programs are compatible with Vista 64bit?

Thanks in advance,

BrassMonkey

A:OpenOffice.org, Thunderbird, Sunbird/Lightning - Compatible with Vista 64bit?

Yes, yes, and yes.

OO is still only 32 bit and like MS Office, no real plans for 64 bit ATM. Thunderbird with Lightning works just fine (been using it for a couple of years now on Vista x64). In fact there is a 64 bit beta of Thunderbird available called Shredder,

Thunderbirdownload - Mozilla x86-64

that works very well, only problem is that Lightning can be a little buggy on it. As far as that goes you can also try the beta of Thunderbird 3,

Thunderbird 3 Beta 2 Preview Release

which has Lightning included (speaking of which, off to update mine to the new Beta 2 that just came out). Been running the Beta 1 for a while now with no problems.

Edit: Forgot one minor detail regarding Lightning, you will need the new (might say beta as well) version from here,

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...ral/win32-xpi/

to get it to work if you decide to try the Thunderbird 3 beta.

I'm struggling to find a clear answer on this. Within our environment, we've been ordering Dell PCs for quite some time. I've been told that about midway through the ordering of Dell GX620 Optiplexes that the cores went from single to dual.

In effect, I've been advised that these machines and, subsequently everything we've ordered since, are considered 64bit compatible because they have two 32bit cores.

Does that sound accurate? What I truly need to know is whether or not any of our PCs (Dell 745, 755 and 760 E8400 Core 2 Duo for desktop; P8400 for laptop) have 64bit hardware. If two 32bit cores mean that they're 64bit compatible, is that the same as being true 64bit?

And, last but not least, will 64bit compatible hardware (assuming it's different than 64bit hardware) run a 64bit OS like Windows 7?

Thanks in advance.

A:Is "64bit Compatible" the same as 64bit for HW?

64 bit hardware is hardware that is capable of using the 64-bit architecture. Sorry if that seems a little too obvious, but it has nothing to do with having 2 32-bit cores.
Try this link: 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions
A 64-bit program like Windows x64 can only run on 64-bit capable systems. Sorry if this is unclear- post back if you need more help.

I have an older laptop.. it's a Lenovo ThinkPad T41 2379.

It's the kind that sits on a little platform thing and slides out when you unscrew the screw. There is NO cable, SATA, ribbon or otherwise. It just looks like an IDE connection that you plug the HDD directly into.

If I were shopping in a store I could find this by looking at it, but I have no idea what it's called and want to order one from newegg.com.

Can anyone tell me what it's called "technically", or provide a newegg link?

Boy I am just not laptop hardware savvy. lol

A:Need Compatible HDD for Laptop

It would be an IDE laptop drive.
There is probably an adapter on the IDE connection of the drive
to adapt it to the laptop.
The adapter will need to be removed and installed on the new drive.
You dont want to get a drive that is larger than your hardware can handle.
If it can do 40GB,it will probably handle a 120GB drive.
There should be screws in the side of the hard drive carrier you remove
to remove the drive from the carrier.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1213046768588

problem is that it has vista, I would personally like to "upgrade" to windows Xp Pro
or
Xp Pro x64 bit edition

I was wondering with the specs if everything was winXP compatible

A:New laptop- is it XP compatible?

XP is compatible with anything that runs Vista. Vista is a lot more demanding, the part that wouldn't be compatible is the drivers. I have a toshiba laptop that came with Vista, and I do want XP on it, but my problem, ther is no driver on XP for the wireless card. So I either give up the wireless card, figure out how to make a driver for it (probably will never happen), or hope they eventually come up with one. The only reason that my driver wouldn't work is that the wireless card is se up differently then most I think so there isn't a driver for it except through Toshiba and they don't support XP for this laptop since I last checked, not too long ago.

The best way to check this is to go to the companies support site and see if the drivers for everything work with XP.

I did just check the website and it doesn't seem like they support XP either, so it can be a hit or miss then. You can try setting up XP as a dual boot (like I did) to test it. You can also call them or write to them and ask them, they may have a better answer than I do. I never used an Asus product before so I don't know too much about them.

XP Pro will be easier than XP 64 since a 64 bit OS has less drivers avalibale (just not as commonly used yet).

I am a bit confused about my ENVY dv6 7300 Quad Edition. In the maintanence manual, it says that it does not support SSDs over 160GB. If this is true, then why? I want to upgrade to an SSD, but I will need more space than a measly 160GB. That doesn't even seem to be big enough for the entire OS.

A:Is my laptop compatible with SSDs?

Hi, You don't need 160GB for any OS on personal computer. One of my laptop has 120GB SanDisk SSD. I use it for Windows 7 Ultimate, Office Plus 2010, Adobe CS5 suite, Nero 10 suite and few other programs and still have 24GB free. Anyway, back to your question: You can use SSD greater (capacity) 160GB. The sweet spot now is 1TB. Regards.

I am looking at a laptop for a fellow student. He upgraded from 8.1 to 10 shortly after 10 became available. Recently it was running slow and shuts off sometimes. Fan vent was clogged. CPU temp a little too high. First of all there are no drivers for Windows 10 from Toshiba. This laptop is not on their compatibility list.

I was running ccleaner and noticed its taking a long time. I looked at the CPU and Ram usage and CPU is at 7% and RAM at 49%. Then I noticed the speed of the CPU is at 1.2GHz with a Max speed of 2.6GHz. Every now and then it will jump to 2.3GHz for a second or two, then back down to 1.2 or 1.3GHz. Could this have anything to do with the 10 upgrade? Will not having the drivers for 10 create a performance issue? I think the laptop needs to go back to 8.1 but I need input from above my level (very low).

Toshiba Satellite P855-S5102
Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @2.6GHz
4G RAM Single Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)

Ccleaner is still running through Edge. Been doing it for 20 minutes and still at 0% progress which is why I posted.

Hi. I've been using HP laptop (15-n274ca) for almost 2 years. Since couple of my friends have told me that I should change HHD 1TB to SSD instead of buying another laptop, I would like to know if my laptop is competable to use SATA 3 SSD. Also, If you don't mind would you give me a recommandation of SSD brand? Thank you guys a lot!   - My Laptop speificiation - Operation : Windows 10 Home 64 bitCPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHzMemories : 16GB ( 8GB  Samsung 1600MHz + 8GB  1600MHz)System Broad : 2164 29.40System Bios : F.42Graphic Card 1: Radeon (TM) HD 8670MGracphic Card2 : Intel(R) HD Graphics Family Hard Drive : TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 - 931.51 GB

A:I would like to know if my laptop is compatible to use SATA ...

Not even an issue. SATA3 will clock back to SATA 2 if needed but your laptop is SATA 3. Best consumer SSD is Samsung 850 Evo but others make very good ones, too. SanDisk, Kingston, etc.

A:Is AGE OF EMPIRES 3 COMPATIBLE ON MY LAPTOP?

AoE 3 is a little old... so go to www.canyourunit.com and then type in the name and search/run the website. It will check your computer, but your video card may be the problem. I see that it comes with Windows 8? If so you may can get away with Windows Compatibilty mode.

A:Compatible Printer for Laptop?

Kodak has an ad for the "kodak esp 5" which brags on low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), ie; cheaper inks
This is an All-in-One printer + Copier device and if I had NOT already purchased the
Canon mp470 (pixma fine) which I love, I would go with the Kodak

I'm going to the store today to try to find a wireless mouse for my laptop for gaming .. There doesn't seem to be any ports on my laptop compatible with the wireless mouse I currently have ... I have a Logitech wireless mouse..[not sure of exact model].. it does not have a USB signal device .. It has green and pink circular connectors which I used for my desktop comp along with the wireless keyboard ...

I'm thinking maybe I have some kind of Bluetooth in my laptop, and there may be a wireless mouse I can purchase that is compatible with my laptop's Bluetooth? But my question is, how do I find out if my laptop even has this so that I know what to look for at the store?
It's a new laptop .. an HP Entertainment PC with Vista .. So I don't see why it would be impossible to connect a wireless mouse to it ...
Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help me out
