I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

@Akdeniz52 I always recommend: please don't touch to BIOS if you do not know what are you looking for. Because playing around with BIOS is a shortest way to brick your machine. Now, why you need to touch to BIOS just for format your machine ? Regards.

I am not able to boot my notebook. Here's what happened: 1) I restarted my  Notebook after installing Windows Update.2) After it restarted and  I logged in, it said "Preparing Windows" and this went on for about 15-20 mins. So, I decided to   force it to shutdown, so that I would be able to boot into safe mode.3) I turned on the notebook once again and I was greeted with a black screen.4)I tried to boot into the BIOS, but nothing happened. The only options that work are "System Information" and "System Diagnostics".5) I ran a full hardware test through diagnostics and all the components passed the test.6) Then I used HP's 3-in-1 USB Diagnostics Key to restore the BIOS.     My Sytem Board ID is 1896 and the BIOS ID was 1894.     It updated my BIOS version from F.23 to F.25  Even after flashing the BIOS about 3-4 times, nothing is shon on the screen. Please Help me ASAP!!!

Hi: See if this works... Download the drivers from this link below (second file listed -- 64 bit). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx??agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+Rap... Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W7 installation media in the machine, boot from the W7 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install.

hello, 2 days ago my laptop was working fine but when i turned it on yesterday it would not load up all it would do is power on a blank screen and the caps lock would flash twice and stop and flash twice again. i looked it up and saw that it was a "bios" problem and to manually fix it was to hold down the windows + b key and turned it on and needles to say it didnt work. i even try to reset it by taking out the battery and holding down the power button to see if that'll help and nope. today i look online to see if theres a way i can fix it but so far all i see is to take it apart to look at the fan or some part near the fan. to be honest i don't feel comfortable taking apart my laptop at all  (i dont mind doing the programing and stuff though) and i was wondering if theres something else i can do to get this problem fixed asap.please help and thank you

Hi Guys-n-Gals
I have an HP Pavilion DV9500 Laptop
I have Ubuntu Linux on a Samsung HM500JJ 500Gb HDD in bay one, boots with
no problems at all.
I have Windows XP PRO SP3 preinstalled on a WD1600BEVS 160Gb hdd in bay two, drive not seen in BIOS so I do not have a choice to boot from it.
Ubuntu Linux still boots fine no problems.
Second HDD Win XP is seen by Ubuntu Linux and I can access folders on the drive
with no problems, so nothing wrong with drive or OS.
If I take out the drives and put the WD160 drive in bay one leaving the second bay empty it boots fine into Windows with no problems.
If I take out the WD drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
If I take out the Samsung500 drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
So either disk will boot fine when in drive bay one.
Neither disk will boot when in drive bay two.
If both drives are in both bays either way round the drive in the second bay will not show in the BIOS and will not boot
Question? How do I solve this problem, HP as usual are no help.
Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Tomorrow is an extension of today but yesterday is just a memory

I purchased this laptop in December with Windows 10 installed. A few weeks ago I started getting a notification in Support Assistant to update the system BIOS.  No matter how many times I run the update the notification persists and the Action Log has never recorded this update as having taken place. After checking with this Forum, it appears that other users have had issues with BIOS updates, and HP Support cautions against updating the System BIOS unless there is a compelling reason to do so. 1. Since I am not having any issues which would compell such an update, should I simply dismiss the notification? 2. If such an update is not advised, why does Support Assistant display its notification? 3. Would dismissing the notification render this Notebook suseptible to security vulnerabilities? 4. The instructions on the HP website for updating theSystem BIOS are considerably more complicated than the procedure launched from Support Assistant. What exactly is this?  The update in Support Assistant is Softpac number SP76353, Version F.19Ap1, Size 8.89MB.

A:HP Pavilion BIOS Update

Hi @LAB7, Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have some questions about updating the BIOS. I agreed that if there is no problem with current system running, it is not necessary to update the BIOS. However, HP support assistant will populate the notification once there is a newer version of the BIOS. You can dismiss the message and it will not cause security problems. There is another way to update the BIOS, by downloading it from HP support page. You can put your product number here on this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Select the right OS on the page, it will show the most updated drivers of your model including the BIOS. Hope these could help. Let me know if you need further assistance. If this post helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos. Regards,

I got a big problem. A friend asked me to update his OS on a HP Pavilion 900MHZ desktop. So i did. He also asked to upgrade his memory from from 256mb to 512mb. So i tried. He has the 168pin Sdram DIMM. One stick worked fine. But when I put in the second stick it errors. "bios not acpi compliant"

So i looked up the error. First i found that i can just turn off the acpi in cmos and it will work. No option in cmos. Then I found to redo the install and at the setup screen hit F7 instead of F6. Did not work. Blue screen during install. Also found that i need to update the bios. Went to HP site. NOthing there. Went to motherboard site. Its an asus k7m board. Got the updated bios. Got the flash program. No luck. Says bios/chipset not found. CAnnot flash the bios. Thing is i am stuck. Got the memory from a local computer shop. He had to special order it since its so old. He will not take it back. $70. I need to flash this bios.

Anybody know where i can find a flash that will upgrade the bios or a website to help me with this?

The memory stick is good. I can put either one in and it works fine, just not both. Very frustrated.

Thanks

What model Pavillion is it? Many times though you have an asus mobo the Bios has been customized for HP to work with it. And the motherboard may also not be a standard asus K7m motherboard, being a custom setup for HP.

Hi, i have this HP Pavilion DV5 laptop which is causing me some problems

I am currently testing two different hard drives with this laptop, and I can confirm that they are working fine.

When I turn the laptop on, the HP logo shows up a couple seconds later, and I have the option of entering the "startup menu". If i don't enter it, then it proceeds to a black screen around 5 seconds later. While this is happening, the hard drive light goes flashes on and off until the black screen. After that, the hard drive light does not flash any more. The computer is not able to boot properly, and it cannot start Windows.

However, if i enter the startup menu, than I can run diagnostics on the hard drive, and open BIOS.
The hard drive test passes easily, but it is not being recognized on BIOS. I neither can enable or disable the "notebook hard drive" because it is not contained in that list.

I should also add that these hard drives are working fine 100%, because i use them on different Laptops. (HP Pavilion DV4 and Acer Aspire One).

Please help with any suggestions.

A:Bios update for HP Pavilion a1550y

Hi there @sailor99, Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand that you are trying to get your system to working with Windows 10, and you are having issues with the graphics adapter.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. Please verify and post the full product number for your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information.  HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number? Depending on the operating systems supported and the BIOS files available for the model, I can see what I suggest. However up front if an available BIOS update was designed for Windows XP, it will not likely install, unless a required OS is installed. I the newest drivers available for the computer are for Windows 7, then those are the ones you will want to have completely updated, but since the system is old enough to have Windows XP drivers and BIOS updates, it is not likely to have WIndows 10 drivers available. The older a system is, the more likely it is going to have issues of some sort with Windows 10. Anyway, please let me know the model information when you can.

Good afternoon, For over a year ago I bought a HP Pavilion 500-407nd but it never functioned properly (slow and very loud fan). I registered multiple tickets at Customer Care and their solution was to update my BIOS. Only problem was that all the different BIOS updates on the HP support page were not compatible. So the only solution of customer care was to send my desktop to them (for a couple of months!?). This is not really an option for me, but after all I tried to arrange to a pickup but the pick up took place when I was on a holiday. Even though I told them very specificly that I was on a holiday. Anyway... I gave up on customer care. So only option was to accept this flawed product. But now there seem to be more & more issues with my system. I noticed there was a new BIOS update for my system (sp77840.exe /avilion 500-407nd but it never functioned properly (slow and very loud fan). I registered multiple tickets at Customer Care and their solution was to update my BIOS. Only problem was that all the different BIOS updates on the HP support page were not compatible. So the only solution of customer care was to send my desktop to them (for a couple of months!?). I have an Hp Pavilion a1740n with Windows Vista Home Premium

I am looking to do a BIOS update and I am currently on the HP website looking at the only BIOS update they have listed there and all I need to do is verify that it is actually for my system

The BIOS update that they have listed there is: P5LP-LE Motherboard BIOS.

Can anyone tell me how to verify if the bios update in the correct one for my computer?

I have run the Belarc Advisor and what is below is the only part that even mention the word BIOS.

Board: ASUSTek Computer INC. LEONITE 5.00
Serial Number: MS1C6CS27400601
Bus Clock: 266 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.06 11/24/2006

I have an old Desktop Pavilion running 32-bit XP which I purchased in 2002 and I've recently started having BIOS problems. Two weeks ago when I booted the computer I got a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left corner.  I restarted and used the F1 key to get into the BIOS set-up and I discovered that the boot priority had been changed.  It was trying to boot from my slave data hard drive instead of the master hard drive with the operating system on it. Once I fixed the boot priority, I saved the changes and exited and it started fine but soon this same boot priority problem started happening about every third time I booted the computer.  Sometimes the first boot priority pointed to "bootable cards" whatever that means. Most recently the problem continued and got worse when it didn't detect the master hard drive at all and I had to detect it manually in the BIOS. Can you tell me if the BIOS needs to be updated or if a virus could be causing this?  By the way my floppy drive hasn't worked for some time.  Thank you.
