I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, it's not that difficult but you need to disassemble a lot of parts. This is fairly easy to do if you closely follow the instructions of Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here: click me!

hi!
I buy a AMD athlon 1800+.
I find this processor is a little bit different compare with my last AMD Athlon 1800+. The package colour has change from green to black and the processor colour is green to yellow and the heatsink become larger. while i finish install the processor, i find it cannot work when i set my mobo cpu jumper to 133mhz and only can work in 100mhz, so the cpu frequency is 1148mhz. Why? The CPU that i have before and now are same prices. I suspect that CPU is fake. Anyone know why the processor is different?

I took a peek in my BIOS (1st timer) as saw the FSB was 133Mhz
I think this referred to my CPU (see below), but I thought the 2200+ was 266Mhz. Also my Mobo supports 266Mhz.
It has a BIOS guardian enabled (Phoenix sys.) is this why I couldn't adjust the FSB? I've heard I need to physically unlock my CPU to manipulate the multiplier...is this the only way to get a little more juice? Don't have a lot of cooling; stock heatsink/fan, 2 80mm fans (side intake, back outflow)
Thanks in advance for putting up with my n00b questions guys!

I've recently upgraded my freinds PC from a 1GHZ Duron (100fsb) to a XP2400(133 FSB) - it also recieved a new graphics card(9600 Pro), Hard drive and DVD Writer. The BIOS was correctly upgraded to accept a 133 fsb - Biostar M7VIB. the board was also correctly jumpered too. All was well for the first couple of days then he recieved the message of death at startup - 'could not load windows due to a fault in the config sys\system32\file missing or corrupted' Well something like that - there are thousands of people out the who have had this message. Anyway I took the machine back and checked, well everything realy :- RAM, cables, drives, CPU, power supply also formatted both drives and tried to reinstall windows XP on each one at a time to no avail - Errors would appear at the start of the installation and it would just freeze. 'IRQ Overlap' was one of them. I did manage to format and install Windows 98 which ran flawlessly at 2000Mhz/133Fsb with all the new gear in place. Then I dropped the FSB back to 100MHZ and low and behold XP will install perfectly! However the XP2400 is obviously only running at 1500MHZ.
These problems are related to something called the 'HAL' or 'hardware Abstraction Layer' which is the Microsoft computer code in XP which makes it possible for XP to run on a variety of different computer types (obviously it doesn't like this one!) - Multi processor, ACPI etc. I know that this is a bit long winded but it mi... I used Everest Home Edition to check some system specs and i think my ram is not running as fast as it should. I have 2 sticks (128 & 256) of ddr ram PC2100/266mhz. The 128mb stick came with my computer when i bought it in 2002 so i guess it's always been like this.

Here's a screenshot of Everest Home Edition showing my specs.

If anyone can help me out i'd really appreciate it. If it is running slower than it should, how do i make it run at 266mhz?

BTW, my motherboard is an Intel Pendleton D845PT if it's needed.

Please help, would be appreciated, thanks.

Your ram is running at the correct speed, nothing to worry about. The effective rate is what the ram companies advertise their ram at, and your's is 266Mhz. The "real rate" of 133Mhz is doubled (DDR ram is double data rate).

Hoping someone can help, please. One of the many problems I'm having tonight is I think because of memory, I just build an Athlon system 600mhz, 98SE, and after I had the 133 memory I realized that you're supposed to run Athlons at 100 (news to me). So I set the jumpers for 100 even though I have 133 in. System seemed to run fine but am now running into MONSTER problems when I try to install an different video card. When I swapped the memory from one bank to another again, seems to work ok...so....anyone know:
can I use 133mhz memory in an Athlon system if I clock it to 100 on the MB? thx for all the help.

P.S.: i have found out that the motherboard's FSB is 133MHz, does it affect the situation???

thanks in advance, and sorry if i haven't give some technical advices for all the other techspoters out there.

A:Motherboard 133MHz Front Side Bus

The 133 FSB is a reliable and reasonably fast board if the memory is 133 or faster... on up to 400 MHZ or more.

Go to <SAFE MODE> to turn off the option to reboot after failure.

You likely have a bad driver or component... So look in the Device Manager to see if there are any yellow or red flags, and begin looking for different (earlier as well as later) drivers for those flagged ones.

The problem can also be Spyware, or a Trojan infestation, so be sure you have good antivirue such as Antivir antivirus and MBAM MalwareByes as well as SuperAntiSpyware, or Spyware Doctor, or Spy Sweeper.

Then be sure you have all the Microsoft Updates... on up through Service Pack 3.

One step at a time, and you will soon have a good unit.

System Bus Speed SW1: (CPU Freq.) = ?

Memory Over Voltage (SW4) = ?
AGP Over Voltage (SW5) = ?
CPU Ratio (SW6) = ?

I have a Dell Dimension XPS R400 (slot 1 processor). As you can see from the model name, it came with a Pentium II 400MHz 100MHz FSB processor. I am currently running a Pentium III 650MHz 100MHz FSB processor in it. I would like to upgrade to a 1GHz processor. I have found several Pentium III 1GHz 100MHz FSB processors for around $200, but there are Pentium III 1GHz 133MHz FSB processors for around $75. So first I tried to find out if a 133MHz FSB processor is backwards compatible with a 100MHz FSB motherboard. In my efforts to find an answer to this question, I learned that Intel offers three different types of 1GHz processors - 1000E, 1000B, & 1000EB. If I understood correctly, the 1000E is for 100MHz, the 1000B is for 133Mhz, and the 1000EB should work for both 100 & 133. So my first question is, is a 133MHz FSB processor backwards compatible with a 100MHz FSB motherboard? And my second question is, if I purchased the 1000EB, is it truly compatible with both the 100 and 133? Because if it is, that should make my first question irrelevant.

A:133MHz processor - Backwards compatible to 100MHz?

If I understood correctly, the 1000E is for 100MHz, the 1000B is for 133Mhz, and the 1000EB should work for both 100 & 133.

Not quite. I'll explain what the E and B mean with an example:

P3-600: 100MHz FSB, Katmai core
P3-600E: 100MHz FSB, Coppermine core
P3-600B: 133MHz FSB, Katmai core
P3-600EB: 133MHz FSB, Coppermine core

The E means it has a Coppermine core, the B that it runs at 133MHz FSB. The P3-733 is merely called a P3-733, not a P3-733EB, since there is only one version of it (133MHz FSB, Coppermine) and there is no need to add the E and B to differentiate it from any other version. Same for the 866 and 933. You can run a 133MHz FSB CPU on a 100MHz FSB, but it will run 1/4 slower since the multiplier is locked, i.e. a 600B running on a 100MHz FSB will only run at 450MHz. A P3-1000B running on a 100MHz FSB will therefore be stuck at 750MHz.

Hi,one reason of issue might be the frequencies of new RAM sticks and CPU i5-520M in your laptop. That processor supports DDR3-800/1066 memory types only. Who knows how SPD feature on the stick regulates the work on lower frequency. Another reasons might be the RAM sticks CAS latency and timings. There is a chance the new memory is too fast for x201. Look at the such parameters of Samsung stick (in CPU-Z, for example).

Can anyone give a definitive answer as to whether or not the X201 has a top or top and bottom roll cage? The current tabook states:Compared to the X201, the X201s has ..., and roll cage in display cover. The tabook makes no mention of a roll cage for the X201, so together the implication is clear: the X201 has no roll cage. Except most of the reviews of the X201 (specifically not the X201s) claim it does have a roll cage (some say top and bottom).  And on Lenovo's website, it states here:Next-generation ThinkPad roll cage on X201, X201s, X301 and X200s Note the inclusion of the X201 in the list. So, which is it? Before reading about the "esc" escape, I was able to spin the fan manually to get past the error. Eventually, even that stopped, but fortunately I read about the "esc" trick. I was able to buy a replacement third party fan, but it never spun, and still got the fan error. Thinking it was a bad fan, I bought another third party fan from someone else, and got the same results. Any ideas on what to do next? Do I need to have a real Lenovo fan (FRU 60Y5422) because it has special sensor (like ink cartridages)? Or is there something wrong on the motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys I want to update my laptop RAM Lenovo ThinkPad X 201 3680PW9  to. But I will have ordered via the Internet so it would be almost impossible to be retained or invoiced if it does not work. I want to know what is the best option to upgrade the RAM 8 GB (2X4GB) or 12 GB (1X4GB+1X8GB)?What is the best RAM brand compatible with this model ? Thanks alot

Max supported by this serie is 2x 4GB RAM, a 8GB module will not work.

You'd need SODIMM modules DDR3-8500 (DDR3-1066) or DDR-10600 (DDR3-1333). DDR3-12800 will most probably not work (I never managed to get one working in mines)

Stick to well known brands like:

Samsung
Elpida
Kingston (but avoid the "Value RAM" series)
Hynix
Crucial
Corsair (but avoid the "Value Select" series)
A-Data

Hi everyone, I'd like to order a X201 model online, but my situation is a bit complicated...I reside in Singapore and have a friend studying in a US university, is it possible to ask him to buy for me using my own Singapore Credit card?

A:X201 Education price

lenovo don't accept international credit card, maybe you should wire the money to his account instead.

Hi, I have a Lenovo X201, it boots up fine and the external VGA works ok, I am typing this now on the X201, but the laptop screen is completely black. On the initial boot I can very faintly see the Thinkvantage on the display. I have not added RAM or anything, just turned it off yesterday working fine and today the laptop screen is black. Any ideas?

I have a lenovo thinkpad x201 from 2011. I had it sitting 3 years. 1 year ago, i got it out of the attic. It is a really fast laptop for some heavy office use, lightweight gaming and having multiple tabs open in the browser. I use it every day. I replaced the HDD with an SSD and it became blazing fast. It has a small problem with the fan though. Its having a hard time running. My laptop would normaly be on 60 degress celcius under normal use and hit 80 degress under really heavy use but after 4 months it would reach 70-80 degress under normal use and hit 90-95 degress under heavy use. But things got worse. After 1 month my laptop would reach 80-85 degress celsius under normal use and hit 95 even when i tried to open google chrome with some tabs open. Sometimes, when i was watching a video, my laptop would reach 100 degress. I couldn't play any videogames because my laptop would fry itself. My laptop would shut down immediately when it hit so high temperatures. After that, i replaced the problematic fan, dusted the motherboard(there wasn't any dust though) and reapplied the thermal paste. Things got much better. Under normal use it would reach 60-70 degress and reach 80-85 degress under heavy use. But after 2 months things got bad again. Now my laptop reaches 65-70 degress under normal use and reach 85-93 under heavy use. Things are not as bad as before but i'm still getting angry when it reaches 93 degress because the CPU clocks are lowered and my LAPTOP lags for about 2... Read more

I seem to have an outdated Bios in my X201 (3680). Windows 10 ProProcessor: i5 CPU M560 @ 2.67 GHzBios Version: 6QET61WW (1.31 )Ram: 6 GBSSD: OCS-VERTEX4 Lenovo System Updates says: "No packages applicable to your system were found". Everything is  working as is, so would it be advantageous and safe to update to the latest version (1.40-1.15)?
