I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

They look like the same socket. Here's the situation: I was given a bone pile of old PC's today. I wanna build as many working PCs as possible that I can give to needy families this christmas. I wanna make the most of what I have. I have 1 system up with a P2 200 mhz, but I have a known good P3 433mhz chip. If the answer to my thread title is "in some cases", do I pose any threat of dammage to the mobo if I try the switch? Mobos and hard drives are what I am short on. I've got more PC100 memory than you could shake a stick at right now.

PII processors are Slot 1. PIII processors are Slot 1 or Socket 370. They are not electrically or pin compatible.

Hi, I have had my P40 for a while and also got the larger pen for it. However, I find the pen a bit slippery to use, as there is no resistance agains the screen and I find the buttons on the pen hard to use as they are not raised.
I really like my Wacom pen (using a Cintiq 24HD) that have buttons that are easy accessible, and the nibs can be changed to simulate "paper feeling. But it obviously doesn't work with the P40 screen, since it requires an AES pen.
Is there a similar AES pen compatible with P40 that you can recommend?

Hi, I am not too technical but will try to give as much info as I can.
I have two Medion PCs bought at the same time so basically mirrors of each other. I had a problem with the HDD being noisy so replaced the 1TB HDDs with Intel 180GB SSDs, all quiet now.....
So far so good, I used Intel migration software so the recovery partitions were also copied.

I now want to re-use the old HDDs as secondary drives, one was quiet and the other noisy, but would like to use all of the HDD but would lose a possible second backup of the recovery partition.
So what I would like to know is if these partitions will work in any machine. So if I just keep one (on the old noisy drive kepy in a drawer) can I use that on either PC if it fails ?

I still have the recovery partitions on my SSDs but wouldn't mind removing that to free up space, so even more important to have a copy of the original recovery partition.

Basically I don't know if these are different on all PCs or the same one on all of them. So in my case if a PC operating system did fail in the future I could just pop in the dodgy HDD and restore from there regardless of which PC it came from.

I did back up the OS as required but this all went on one DVD so I could restore from this anyway ?
Not sure about that.....
I can't understand why the recovery partition uses 18GB of storage yet a Win7 install DVD is only one disc ? Same as the recovey DVD I created for each PC, only one.
So if everything goes 'Pete Tong' can I really ju... Read more

A:Two PCs with the same restore partitions are these interchangable

Hello and welcome charente a lot of info mate so just to make things clear the SSD did you do a completely fresh install on it? ie did you use the original CD that Windows came on? Because the OS is tied to your motherboard not the drive in both machines.

I am just wondering why you migrated the old drive data to the new drive personally I would have just copied what I wanted and ditched the rest or stuck it in a case and keep it as an external. . That would have left you with a couple of HDD's that then be wiped or extraneous data removed.

The drive that is noisy I would be getting anything off of it asap as it sounds like it is on it's last legs.

Now a good idea would be to turn off the defrag for the SSD as it shortens the life of them and this can be found in this - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance plus other stuff you will find very handy - if you don't mind losing a bit of the "bling".

Plus just a few more specs my friend like machine model number is good and if you want to find out the machine specs use this Speccy - System Information - Free Download < download from piriform - it is free and will tell you all details of the machine.

I'm looking into buying a dual monitor display with Dell UltraSharpTM U2410 Monitor being the IPS panel but I see another one I was looking at a while back which has a good price with this "Black November sale NewEgg is having. I was waiting around to see if they have any sales on GPU's to complete my system but thinking ahead I need a monitor either way.

I need a monitor and it seems like a good buy, any thoughts?

Acer P235Hbmid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000:1(ACM) Built-in Speakers

I was looking at IPS panels because of graphic design and their better color spectrum etc...I have a thread about it but its 3 pages long and from 2-3 months ago.

A:Good Buy? IPS & TN Panels

Are you saying that that you want to go with both an IPS and a TN panel at the same time? I'll be honest, after using the IPS panel..it seems quite unlikely that you would want to drag something over to the TN panel. But I do realize that going with a dual IPS solution is extremely costly.

What you might consider doing is splitting the difference and getting 2 of the Dell U2311H monitors instead. These are the lower priced Dell IPS flat panels. They are about $300 for a 23" display. So, 2 of them would cost you $600 and get you consistent imaging between the 2 in a dual monitor setup. While not as nice as the U2410...the U2311H is going to be better than the TN flat panels.

Here is a review that covers that monitor

Among the numerous flat-out ridiculous problems with Windows 7 I've had since moving from XP one of the more annoying is the in-ability to save authoring changes to MMC (.msc) panels.

In every single OS version that uses these panels I've been able as a user (or admin) to right click and author the panel, customizing it to my liking (I prefer my own versions of services, compmgmt and event viewer) but alas in this "wonder" version of Windows Microsoft decided not to allow that to happen.

I seriously wonder if Microsoft is being taken over by those who wish it to fail..but to continue.

First, it seems all of the MSC files are owned by "trustedinstaller" - after changing the ownership to me, authoring still fails. Using "run as administrator", fails. Even after I take ownership and MMC allows me to save over the MSC file, *none* of the changes I made to the file take effect.

Even stopping protected storage does nothing.

Now, yes, I can create a brand new MMC panel, add (for example) services to it, change the icon and use that instead as that will allow me to save my own look and feel but why the hell should I have to do that when I can just save the services.msc?

I recently found a Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318, 15.6" laptop with a Windows 8.1 OS. Everything works great except that it has a cracked touchscreen digitizer, which appears to be made of glass. The LCD panel continues to display a good, crisp 1920 X 1080 image.

The LCD panel's part number is LP156WF5 SPXA2, made by LG Display. I'm having trouble locating a good used panel and/or touchscreen digitizer with matching part numbers. New complete units are in the $200.00 range and more than I want to spend.

Can these parts be substituted with other parts that don't have exact matching part numbers? I've seen other non-matching parts that sell for under $50.00, on eBay.

How important are exact matching part numbers for these 2 particular components?

I just bought a new monitor(being shipped now) and I have a slight concern about response time. It is an E-IPS panel with a 14ms response time. I game a lot, but my main concern is color accuracy and black levels. I am wondering how much ghosting to expect. I have read other places that even though something might say 2-5ms GTG, that it may still have a response time of 10-15ms. I don't think the ghosting will bother me, I just want to know what to expect. From what I have read this monitor will do everything I need it to do as far as photo editing and graphic design.

I have read that IPS and PVA panels are rated differently in their response times from TN or TFT panels. The TN's and TFT's rating measure a grey-to-grey response and my IPS panel is rate a full black-to-white.

The monitor is the ViewSonic VP2365wb

I have owned a TN panel in my 245BW and I currently have a TFT in my Hanns G HW191A. I have some experience with with the Apple Cinema displays, I don't know if they have PVA or IPS panels, but I didn't notice any ghosting. I have also used one of the Asus LEDLCD monitors, I didn't like it at all.

So I recently got an Alienware m11x. I attempted to install more memory into the laptop. It worked ok at first and then I got a couple of blue screens on start up so I swapped out the new memory for the old figuring it was defective. I put the old memory which stopped the crashes.

My problem now is that since those few crashes very few if any of my control panels will work. Explorer crashes from time to time. I have run the sfc /scannow command which said it found errors but could not fix them.

I have been all over the internet looking for a solution and cannot come up with one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've just upgraded from vista ultimate, 64 bit, to windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit. I ran into an immediate problem because I'd not uninstalled the norton UAC utility. This manifested as anything requiring a UAC prompt giving me a signing error and not working. I then found the system wouldn't boot to safe mode (reset itself about 5 seconds after reaching login screen). Eventually I managed to fix this by booting from a CD and switching UAC off by editing the registry. Whilst hairy sounding, this all seemed to work, and most of the symptoms I was experiencing have gone.

Not everything is rosy though. Many of my control panel applets will not run. I select them from the control panel menu (or any other way, eg right click on desktop, select personalise) and absolutely nothing happens. Watching task manager doesn't even show a new process being created and destroyed. It looks as though standard windows control panels won't work, but third party ones will (eg, my anti-virus),

Does anyone have any suggestions on tracking this down? With the safe mode problem as well, I'll certainly be doing a full reinstall soon, but I couldn't afford the couple of days it would take to do this at the moment.

Thanks for any suggestions,

A:Can't access various control panels

Computer is an Acer Aspire 5720Z running Windows 7 SP1 (with all current updates). Somehow I have ended up with an "All Control Panel Items" icon on my desktop that I can't get rid of. I went in to the Desktop Icons panel and verified that "Control Panel" and "Allow themes to change desktop icons" were both unchecked. They are. So I checked both, applied (at which point ANOTHER All Control Panel Items" icon appeared on my desktop for a total of 2 of them), then unchecked both and applied (and the duplicate disappeared) - still leaving one on the desktop. I also have tried switching themes, and no mater what is selected, the control panel icon remains. I found a MS article on it and also ran a virus scan on the system with Avira AV Premium 2012 as well as SuperAntiSpyware (system is clean).

Any ideas on how to get rid of it? It is functional and takes me to the "classic view" of control panels.

My question is this, how do I set a custom screeen resolution for my monitor, I want to set 1280 x 800 pix but very time I go to set it or any others I get:

or something like that, I have just upgraded from a Nvidea FX5500 and it [The Old Card] gave me no grief whatsoever to set that res, my next door neighbor has a laptop that also uses that res, I use CAD programs and it's important that a square when measured with a ruler on the screen is actually square, EG 300mm x 300mm in the software is also 300mm x 300mm physically measured to be accurate on the screen

I'm talking about the 3-4 horizontal expation panels that they give you to add additional periperals to your system as a part of your drive tower unit. (You take those out when you add new things, such as a second CD Rom) If you have a problem with an added device but you no longer have the horizontal panel and you take out the problematic device is it OK to just leave your system like that? (I know someone that has the main cover that fits over the 3 horizontal panels.) Should they just put the main cover back on?

I'm having some problems with my Windows, it happened second time now. I can't tell why, but in one moment I lose access to Windows Update and User Accounts panels in Change PC Settings, all administrator accounts seem to work with reduced rights, localization gets mixed with English program names or with no localization at all (see screenshot http://i.imgur.com/YE0qba5.png) and other weird problems happen, like inability to install fonts or uninstall some programs. All of this seems to be caused by one thing, but I'm unable to point what causes it. Anyone else encountered a similiar situation? If you are not in a Temporary Profile, you can do an In-Place Install, there is a tutorial in the tutorials section. Cant get the link cos I have to leave. But open your computer to "c:\Users\" and see if there is a "User" folder named "Temp", if there is, then you are indeed loaded into a Temporary Profile.

I have a question... Lets say you have a Data Rack in a closet and you have a 24 port network switch along with a 24 port patch panel and you want to go to 20 different computer stations...

You bring in 20 - Cat5e cables from each computer location to the patch panel out of the patch panel you bring 20 patch cords which go to the switch and out of the switch you bring 1 Cat5e cable going to the server... This is correct??

Why cant you just bring in 20 - Cat5e cables from each computer location to the switch and out of the switch you bring 1 Cat5e cable going to the server?? What is the patch panel actual used for??

A:Data Rack with patch panels/switches

You could do that, but there is a reason for the patch panel in the middle. It is a fixed termination point for your cable runs. If you need to move a connection, all you need to do is move a patch cable from the termination point to whatever device you want to connect to. It is also much easier to replace a patch cable if a cable is bad than an entire run of wire. Once a patch panel is wired they hardly ever (I won't say never) have a problem.

We currently have quite a few Cat5 (not 5e) rated patch panels with Cat5 and 5e cabling. Is there really an advantage to upgrading to Cat5e or Cat6 patch panels?

If you are never going to use any equipment that needs to communicate faster than 100 Mbits/sec, then there is no need to upgrade the panels.

I am running 64-Bit Windows 8.1 Pro and this is more of an annoyance than a problem. When I call up the list of Control Panels from the start menu, they are in alphabetical order from left to right and then top to bottom. Short of installing some third party app, is there a way to change the list to be in alphabetical order from top to bottom and then left to right. I would like to be able to see all of the available control panels at the same time, so narrowing the view to one column doesn't work for me.
