Personal email address found in unfamiliar web site database.

Q: Personal email address found in unfamiliar web site database.

Hi, I was just searching my email address on google and found these two websites that contain my email address. I have no previous communication with both of the websites and I was wandering why my email address is on their database. http://servbit.org/lag[LINK REMOVED] Note: google warned this site might be a phishing sit but I proceed it anyway. Any idea? Thanks!P.S. I can't find the right topic for this question and thus posted here thinking it will be the right place. *moderator edit: link removed. Page linked to contained a long list of email addresses. Email addresses (yours and those of other people) should never be posted in a public forum. Spammers and phishers troll the internet looking for addresses to send their junk to. There is no need to hand it to them on a silver platter. - Queen-Evie*

Preferred Solution: Personal email address found in unfamiliar web site database.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

if you have concerns with someone using it to send you unwanted emails I suggest you cancel that address and get a new one .

This is odd - but am wondering why ...
When I am using Hotmail - NortonInternetSecurity alerts me to the fact that my "personal" (ISP) email address is being sent to Hotmail. I get tired of blocking it and change my application to Hotmail in InternetExplorer (which is a drag if I want to activate eMail elsewhere ... changing back and forth)

Does anyone know why this happens?
Many thanks

A:NortonInternetSecurity catches: personal eMail address being sent to Hotmail

Norton's internet security setting alerts you when you are about to send pre selected personal information. If you are getting a warning when going into hotmail I am assuming that your hotmail address and your isp address have a common name in them (yours maybe). It sounds as you have set up internet security with your e-mail address, to warn you when you type it anywhere, and you are typing a similar thing to get into your hotmail account so it throws up a warning. It should only recognise exactly what you've asked it to recognise. If you have asked it to recognise your complete e-mail address (ie you typed the full address in the security settings) then I don't understand.
You can set it to recognise bits of your address though.
So if your name is mugsy and your isp e-mail address is [email protected], you can set it to warn you everytime you are about to send "mugsy" somewhere.
When you go to hotmail you will maybe then type [email protected]. This will throw up a warning that you are about to send your e-mail [email protected] address to hotmail.
It depends what you have set it up as, but something will be common to the 2 addresses. What is it?

When I registered on this site it wouldn't let me use my email address which is registered on my own website with a domain extension of .digital My guess is that this extension is not recognized yet. Is there any plan to update the domain extension list with the new domain extensions so people could register with email address registered on them.

A:When I registered on this site it wouldn't let me use my email address

I think the next site update will allow for domain extensions with more than 4 letters, however it's a fair bit of work fixing things that new updates bring, so I'm in no rush to do it.

Hi again everyone,

The story today is.. I was talking with an instructor in college about routers. I told him I have a Belkin which is both wire and wireless. I stated we were not using the wireless part and he asked if I had turned that part of it off. I said no, and began to look for the wireless mode (which I haven't found yet) and came across something else. We have 2 computers, and I can see them in the setup area but, there is also another address there: what is this ip address ( host name (ours-ay4j91epjq) mac address (00-02-A5-B7-2F-F8)

Once we had HP's help service remotely connect to one of the computers. I'm wondering if that is what this is. I would of thought they would at least have (hp) somewhere in the address. Anyway, I tried to refresh as it instructs but it is still there... leaving me to believe that there is still a connection here. I do not want anything else connected to this router if possible.

Q: Is this necessary?

Thank you,

I have a problem with sending an email to an email address on a web site. I get this error message ("Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."), or, nothing at all happens.  It does not open
up an email for me to type in and send to the address.
What is going on here and why can't I just click on an email off of a website and send an email without getting this error message?  I have never had this issue before.  Is it something to do with Windows 7?  I used to have Windows MX and
did not have this problem.
I really need to find out why this is not working properly and would welcome any feedback or remedy!!
Best regards,

A lot of spam (but not all) comes from "harvesting" programs that spammers use to "harvest" email addresses left on Internet pages. Some spammers can also harvest addresses from "Forwarded" emails.

So, to eliminate the Internet page source of spam, there are three things you can do:

1) NEVER leave your "personal" email address on the Internet.
Now there are some sites that absolutely INSIST that you leave an email address - like when joining discussion groups, when making a purchase, setting up your profile for your Health Insurance web site, Online banking, etc.

For that requirement, see point #3.
2) On discussion group postings, always "munge" your mail address if you want to post it.
"Munge" means to disguise it. For example, one of my email addresses (see point #3 for why I have more than one) is rbjamie [at] gmail.com. Notice that I typed out "at" instead of using the @ symbol. That's "munging". Most harvesters look for the @ symbol to get email addresses, so if you leave out the @ symbol by typing "at", the harvesters will not identify it.

However, spammers are getting more sophisticated tools, and harvesters may now look for "at" when it's typed out - which is why I put it in brackets too. But then they may look for "at" in brackets too - it's a real cat-and-mouse game.

A:Tip on how to keep spam out of your "personal" email address . . .

Forgot to add another option for those "Forwarded" emails that contain a lot of addresses.

If "Auntie" insists on still forwarding her emails without removing all the addresses or using the bcc feature, then tell her this:

You are changing your email address to: (insert your INTERNET EMAIL ADDRESS) and you will no longer get her emails at the address she has. So tell her to forward those emails to your "new" email address (that would be your INTERNET EMAIL ADDRESS). And tell her to put your "new" email address in her address book and delete the current one.

This way at least she will be forwarding stuff that's likely to generate spam to an address that you already use for a repository for junk email. So if it gets contaminated from her forwarding . . . so what?? . . . it's ALREADY contaminated probably (from leaving it as your email address on the Internet).

And too, if Auntie is not too computer savvy (and most, BUT NOT ALL, who forward chain emails and joke emails are NOT computer savvy), you don't want her to have your "personal" email address in her address book, BECAUSE IF SHE GETS ONE OF THOSE WORM VIRUSES (AND THAT'S LIKELY) THAT GOES THROUGH HER ADDRESS BOOK AND MAILS ITSELF OUT TO ALL IN HER ADDRESS BOOK, you want that virus to show up in your Internet Email account.

Of course, it really doesn't matter where a virus shows up - AND I'M ASSUMING YOU HAVE AN ANTIVIRUS ON-ACCESS SCANNER ... Read more

Hello all,

Good to join this forum

Anyway, Please can someone support me regarding connecting a Windows Server 2008 standard that needs to connect to another Windows server in another country outside of UK (Site B). The ports 1433 and 3030 are also open in the firewall and also the Draytek 2830n router, therefore I can see the ports open via yougetsignal.com. We have 1 public (Static) IP address from BT that is already in the Draytek router on Site A (UK).

How is the simplest or easiest way to connect these 2 Window servers so a management program that uses MySQL Database server can talk to the Site B server or vice-versa) Both sites have a Public IP address.

Can this be done by the WIndows firewall inbound rules / outbound rules where the port 1433 is set. There is an option to enter a Remote IP address under 'scope' which I assume is the Site B's public IP address within the inbound firewall properties.

The other way is the VPN on the Draytek 2830n. There is an option for Lan to Lan using IPSec but not sure the best settings for Dial-out or Dial-in. There is usernames and passwords that not sure of including the Remote gateway or Remote IP to use

We have 2 different routers on Site A and Site B are not the same.

Thanks Guys

Hi! I'll try to keep this as brief as possible, but it's really difficult to explain. One of my email buddies (fortunately he's an honest person) recently told me that any email I send him, from both my home and work computers, has a ton of garbled info attached to the end of the email... The info includes previous emails I've sent to other people, cell phone bill details, shopping details - ANY and EVERYTHING I do online is connected to my emails to him. It doesn't matter what email I use... My Outlook account at work, Gmail, Aol, RR... it all attaches info to EVERY email I send to him. Even the "Read Receipt" he receives when I click on one of his emails has info attached to it. !?!?!?!!! IT'S EXTREMELY DISTURBING! And he also receives info from my family members who use my computer at home, so it's not just MY info he's receiving.

I do know that he is on a "Whitelist" with the company he works for (for a very important reason), so he's not bound to the security that everyone else is protected by. He's had his computer restaged twice and it still keeps happening. He uses Outlook and it happens with his desktop AND his laptop at work.

I thought about talking to my IT Helpdesk at work, but haven't yet since this is happening from EVERY computer I use, so I know it's not a specific computer issue. Is there, perhaps, something that my friend has done, without my knowing, to gain access to my per... Read more

I tried to view my site for the first time here at my new house. The page will not load. I assume, since you are on a network, that your Outlook 2000 is installed in Corporate\Workgroup mode.

Before you can use a personal address book you have to add it to your Outlook profile as a service. Click on Tools, Services, Add, and select Personal Address Book.

Then you can make it your default address book (the one that comes up first when you click on "To" in a new message, by clicking the Addressing tab on the main Services dialog box and specifying it there (instead of Global Address List).

I have a lot of entries in my OL 97 Personal Address Book. I would like to organize them somehow, either by using a filter, or putting them in their own folders, or by having more than one Personal Address Book. Is there a way to do this?

A:Outlook 97 Personal Address Book

From Outlook Express help:

To organize names in your address book
When you have a large address book, you can organize it in several ways to make it easy to retrieve contacts and groups. You can sort names alphabetically by first name, last name, or e-mail address, and you can order the list in ascending or descending order. You can also change the order of the columns so the information that's most important to you is listed in a way that's useful. In addition, you can view a list of groups separately from the contacts list.

To sort contacts by name, e-mail address, or phone number, click the appropriate column heading above the name list.

To switch columns between ascending and descending sort order, click the column heading.

To change the order of the columns, point to a column heading (Name, E-mail Address, Home Phone, etc.), and then while holding down the right mouse button, drag the column to the left or right until it's located where you want it. Release the mouse button.

To view a list of your mailing groups, click the View menu, and then make sure that Folders and Groups is selected.

We run Terminal Server 4 with Citrix Metaframe. We have Outlook for the users to get their email with. (No one has a PC, everyone is on WYSE WinTerm thinclients). I have created a Personal Address Book for everyone to use but when people go to access it maybe 2 or 3 people can use it. The rest of the people get an error saying you cant log in to the PAB. How do I make this work?

A:Outlook 97 and Personal Address Books

I don't think you can share a PAB. Get everyone out of it Outlook. Have a person who was previously unable to get into the PAB, try again.

I'm not familiar at all with your hardware. But, you can't put PSTs or PABs on network shares because it's like any other unshareable file--it's in use. Since the PAB would be in use when Joanie has Outlook open, Joanie has to close Outlook for Jimmie to get into the PAB.

If you're using a mail server you should be able to set up a global address list.

If you aren't, then the best I can suggest is to have one person be in charge of the address list--everybody submits changes to that person. Once a week, or however often, she puts out a new PAB with instructions to save it to their desktop, close Outlook, overwrite old PAB with new PAB, open Outlook.

Sucks. I know. I hope I've misunderstood what you want.

Does anyone know if there is a way to print out the Personal Address Book? We are using Outlook 97. When I open in Notepad, it looks terrible.

A:{RESOLVED}Personal Address Book

You should be able to do one of two things very easily. If you just want to print a neat copy of your address book, then find out how to do a mail merge into Microsoft Word and you can have all your contacts formatted nicely into a word document.

If you want to get the data from your address book into another program so that you can manipulate the data, you can use the Export function on the File Menu in Outlook to send your address book to a text file with comma separated values. You should then be able to open this text file in Microsoft excel and manipulate the data any way you want to.

Good luck,

In Outlook, user is only getting an undeliverable error when attempting to send email thru certain address' in her personal address book. When address' in question entered manually no issue. Have tried deleted and re-adding addresses, no fix. Is this a corrupted address book? If so is there a way to fix it? It was mentioned to me trying to export it as a .csv file and import it as a new address book? How does that work? Thx in advance for any assistance.

A:Damaged personal address book

Exporting to a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file simply exports all fields as text with comma delimiters.

Importing takes this file and puts it in the address book.

The resulting exported file can be viewed in Excel, or Word, Notepad etc and may possibly show up any corruption.

This seems like such a simple question that I am almost embarrassed to ask it. I use MS Outlook on my home PC and also on my laptop (I also use XP on both). I want to copy the address book / contacts from the home PC to use on my laptop. But I can't seem to find the database to copy. Having Googled the question, I searched for *.pab files, and *.wab files (which I understand is the extension for the address book) but didn't find any. Another suggestion was that it could be within contacts in the .pst file. That I found! But when I tried to copy it I received a message that some program had 'locked' a portion of the file and it couldn't be copied! Surely it can't be that hard! Can someone please help with this 'minor' incovenience? Thanks in advance.

A:[SOLVED] Finding Outlook Address Book Database

Open outlook and go to the File menu and select Import and Export. Export the address book first. Under Choose an action to perform click Export Internet Mail and Addresses if the option is available (I am at work and exporting data has been disabled by sys admin so I am unsure of the menus passed there) .

After exporting them, you should be able to follow the same process to import them after transferring them to the laptop.

edit: Which version of outlook are you using? Outlook express, MS Outlook, and which year?

About twice each day under Win 7 I get a small window shown in the attachment.

I've no idea what causes it and can discern no pattern to its happening. My guess it is associated with eMClient because that is the only program I use that maintains a database but that is a SWAG. Can find nothing in Event Viewer for the time of occurance that could explain it. Support people at eMClient are as puzzled as I am.

Has any one run into this sort of thing?

Thank you very much.

Download and run ProcessExplorer. It does not need to be installed.

Drag-and-drop target to find an image. If you're not sure which application corresponds to which image in Process Explorer, click and drag the little gun sight icon on the Process Explorer toolbar, and drop it on any visible window to find out what process/image it is.

Once the error message is on the screen, start ProcessExplorer and drag the target icon and drop it on the error message window. It will show the process that generated that window highlighted in blue in the PE window.

Somehow my Outlook address book doesn't contain my Personal section any longer. How can I add a Personal section into my Outlook Address Book? I have all the contacts - in a file listed under Contacts in the File List ot the left of the screen in Outlook. But I'd like that section to be back in my Address Book. It used to be in there - not sure how it got removed.

Thanks -

A:Outlook Personal Address Book Disappeared!

Hi, It may still be in the Deleted items folder; take a look in that and it may be restoreable if there.
You could have emptied the Deleted Items folder already, so it may not be there or even have been there, but usually all deleted emails go there, and I would think entire folder contents would too.
You can easily re-create a new personal folder in the AB, and manually reenter the items, too, if you have them in the AB....

I took (using my memory stick) a copy of my PST file and my PAB file from the server at my work (each client PC at work has Outlook 2000 on it) and imported it into Outlook 2003 on my laptop at home. It was the first time that I used the Outlook 2003 on my laptop, because I don’t use it to send and receive any email, so an email account doesn’t exist on it. The PST and PAB files are in the default storage folder C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. When I click on the little book icon on the toolbar (like I do at work), the address book is empty in Outlook 2003. What am I not doing correctly, please anyone? The emails part of it works fine: I can read them, etc.

Thanks in advance.

A:Personal address book not shown in Outlook 2003.

You will need to import the PAB file into the PST file/Contacts. I don't believe 2003 uses the PAB files any longer, but they can still be imported.

From either Outlook Express or the MS Works Address book:
then choose type file
choose Exchange Personal Address Book
The new Works address book import completes the action but does not ask for the file location ( I am trying to import a MS Exhange Personal address book into a Works Address Book, which appears to be the address book for Outlook Express a .wab not a .pab) so of course nothing happens and no data is imported. MS Tech Support is no help.

Then why not do it backwards, export into Works I think it is you want to import to.

I've just rebuilt my PC and re-installed Office 2003. I have added my old personal address book to outlook, but I can't get an option to add new addresses to it.

Previously when I right clicked on an address in an email I got this a drop down with the following options (Properties, Send Options, Add to Contacts, Look up Contact, Add to Personal Address Book, Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, Select All)

Now I get a completely different list (the email address itself, Schedule A Meeting, Getting Office Location, Call, Send Mail, Additional Actions, Create Rule, Send Options, Add to Outlook Contacts, Look up Contact, Outlook Properties, Copy)

Why am I getting this difference and how do I get the Add to Personal Address Book option back ? I've tried removing the address book and the contacts and adding it back, restarting outlook and the machine but no joy
