Delta Search Hijacker

Q: Delta Search Hijacker

Hello,

I may be infected with Delta Search / Babaylon toolbar.  My browsers(Firefox and Explorer) both home pages have redirected to Delta Search.  I was able to change them back but I am afraid that the infection may still be present.  It seems the browsers are moving slower.  Also, when I click on a New Tab, it takes me back to the Delta Search Page -- http://www.delta-search.com/?affID=119351&babsrc=NT_ss&mntrId=f08987040000000000003859f9147bf7

I download a two programs to record audio and video and the redirects happened right after this.  (Snippy and CamStudio)

I am running Windows 7 - 64 bit.  Thank you for your help!

Preferred Solution: Delta Search Hijacker

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Opened an article on Yahoo 2/11/13 and Delta-search took over.  I ran Super Anti Spiware and uninstalled:  delta, delta Chrome toolbar and another ending in" ooo" that were automatically installed on 2/11/13.  I deleted "cookies"  2/11/2013.  How do I get rid of any residual infection?.  Computer/internet still very slow.

Hello!  I have my grandfather's computer that had been infected by the delta-search browser hijacker.  After many attempts, I was able to successfully navigate to the malwarebytes website and retrieve the program to perform a scan.

The scan completed and seems to have successfully removed the delta-search hijacker.  However, there are other programs/toolbars that seem to have come with it, and I was hoping I may be able to receive help doing a thorough checking (possibly help interpreting and using hijackthis logs, don't worry I haven't touched, downloaded it or anything, I know I need specific direction for that), or some other program that will help check his settings, registry entries, programs, etc to ensure nothing else is left behind unknown.

I wasn't sure where exactly to put this request, as it seems I need to first receive direction/instruction for further removal or postings, so I'll leave it at this, and hope that one of the trusted members will be able to direct me or allow me further posting in an area to receive more guided instruction.

Thank you

They were found on my computer by Spy Hunter but weren?t found by scans by Malwarebytes or Windows Essential. Spy Hunter is too expensive! What can I do. Thank you, Dres

A:Getting rid of Babylon Search, Qv06.com and Delta-Search Spyware

Welcome to the forums!

First, I'm pretty sure that "Spy Hunter" is the actual malware here. When did you run it and why? Do you have underlying problems? Try running Malwarebytes in "Safe" mode as a start. I'd strongly suggest removing anything pertaining to Spy Hunter myself. Using Revo Uninstaller in Advanced mode to root out every last trace.

Below are the log files as detailed in the instructions for this thread. I'm new here and aquired this I believe when my son was downloading some music.   I have run Malwarebytes a few times and now have it where it finds nothing.  I have also deleted any signs of it via Revo Uninstaller and took steps to remove it from Firefox, Chrome and IE.  I noticed today that I'm unable to create any new folders, I click on the option and nothing appears to happen and I no longer have the option when I right click on the folder.   so it makes me thing I still might have it on our computer or I guess it could be another problem.  I hope someone has some advice for me.

I also saw this on one of your threads and wonder how reliable it really is...

Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner Click on the Download Now button and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and double click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Scan button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to run, it may take several minutes to complete, when it is done click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear and allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report, Copy & Paste it into your next post.

Let me begin by saying that I am NOT experienced with computers, and that I have been blessed with two preteens that love to play games on the internet and download random crap that has led me here. I was having problemswith Google Chrome, and wanted to switch to Firefox. I uninstalled Chrome but when attempting to download Firefox, I was "told" that my computer was incompatable. (It's an old Vista piece of crap) so I reinstalled Chrome. When it was finished, I realized that when I got online, three tabs opened, one for Chrome, one a new tab, and the third was Delta Search. I'm always careful to read everything before downloading anything, because theres always a hidden toolbar or something else that I don't want. Now, I've gone into the control panel, don't see anything related to Delta or Yontoo, went to Internet Explorer to manage add ons, that didn't work...it just won't go away! what to do, what to do? Any advice will be helpful!!!

Hi soule2souleSorry for the delay in response to your thread. Please take note of the following:1. Please do not run any other tools unless instructed.2. The cleaning process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you that your computer is clean.3. If there's anything that you don't understand, please ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.4. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.I see from your other thread that it was suggested that you may have a 'Zero Access' infection..... let's check for that.Step 1Please disable Windows Defender... it is known to interfere with our fixes.Normally Avast would have disabled this when installed as it may conflict.Click Start >> Programs >> Windows Defender or launch from the system tray icon.Click on Tools & Settings >> Options.Under Real-time protection options, uncheck the "Real-time protection" check box.Click Save.Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Security >> Windows Defender, at the bottom of the Window Defenders page uncheck under Administrator Options "use Windows Defender" and then Save.RecommendationI am reading some unfavourable things about Anvi Smart Defender plus it may well conflict with the rest of your security.I recommend this is uninstalled.Step 2For x32 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. <<<< ImportantDouble-click the downloaded icon to run the tool. When the tool opens click... I no longer have my start up pages, they have been redirected to Delta search with Firefox, and they are Babylon search when I use Google Chrome. This happened to me before, as I am starting to think it is the sites mt child is visiting to get gamer cheats. My cousin said to come here to Bleeping computer before I did anything else. I notice there are a few new items that are in my Control Panel which I did not install. Please help, and I thank you very much for taking the time to help others here.

Hi.

This virus seems to be a nightmare to remove, no free anti-virus software seems to remove it. If there is a chargable one that will remove it then i'd pay for it and get it done!

Can anyone recommend the best way of removing the Delta Search virus?

At first when I opened Chrome it went straight to Delta Search, but now I feel it slowly affecting the performance of my computer.

Thanks,

Hello aferen and welcome to Bleeping Computer!
I am D-FRED-BROWN and I will be helping you.
Please print or save this topic. It will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.
----------Step 1----------------
Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.
To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.
Click the Start Scan button.
Do not use the computer during the scan
If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.Note: If Cure is not an option, Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).
Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

I inadvertently installed Delta Search and all the other unpleasant ilk that goes with it. Can someone please help me with making sure I download the right malware, etc to ensure it doesn't come back and haunt me anywhere?

I know just enough about computers to "think" I know what I'm doing, but in reality that causes me to be more dangerous than cautious at times if that makes sense. And, after reading a few of the posts and trying to navigate my way around this site I got intimidated by my obvious lack of knowledge and my inability to find answers in any efficient fashion.

So I finally realized that this is a volunteer forum and folks enjoy helping, so I'm hoping that will be the case with an obvious newb such as myself.

I have Windows 8. I think its the Home Edition but don't know for sure.  And I have wished I had the 7 OS that I had grown very accustomed to. I think I would know how to find that out if I still was using 7.

I typically have been solely a Chrome user as it integrates seamlessly as it should with my gmail, droid phone, etc. So my issues have been primarily happening with that.

In addition, though, I've been trying to get rid of the Ask.com search engine that is now the default for IE.  I have no clue whether this is related or not.

Many thanks in advance.

Esteban

Hello,
I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you.
Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us
Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs,  unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.
Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.

Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.
Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.

I am here at Bleeping Computer because my Firefox has been infected with DELTA SEARCH HIJACK. I believe it came in when I was trying to download a font, and I was having trouble with it when the ‘delta search browser first appeared.  I’ve kind of over-explained it, especially if someone is familiar with this particular issue, but I’ve been fighting it for four days, and the solutions I’ve received (predominantly through yahoo answers) have been incomplete and unhelpful, so I tried to write up as complete of an explanation as I could.

I can open Mozilla Firefox fine, but any additional tabs opened redirect to Delta Search (looks similar to google). Returns ads, tainted results, many say "we'd like to show you a description, but your computer won't let us"...not trusted.
Located several methods for removal, but they were located on Firefox after ‘delta search’ was loose,  Some contain obvious spelling and/or grammar errors...I do not know if any of them can be trusted.
The removal instructions say go to add/remove programs list and uninstall any/all of the following: Delta Chrome Toolbar, Delta Toolbar, Yontoo, BrowserProtect, and Mixi.DJ. None of these are listed in my Add/Remove programs list.  I cannot find these five items anywhere on my computer.  As this is one of the first steps in the removal methods, and not one of them gives any alternative or suggestions on how to proceed from this point if these fi... A:Victimized by a Delta Search Hijack

Delta Search is a web search engine and toolbar which comes bundled with other software. Once installed it changes the browser homepage, replaces the default search engine and displays ads with sponsored links in the search results. Many such programs come bundled with other software (often without the knowledge of the user) and can be the source of various issues and problems to include Adware/browser hijacking. Even if advised of a toolbar or Add-on, many folks do not know that it is optional and NOT necessary to install in order to operate the program. Toolbars and Add-ons can usually be removed via Add/Remove Programs or the Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7/8, so that's why you were told to check there first. If the program is not listed in Add/Remove or Programs and Features, the next place to check is your browser Add-ons.How to Disable Add-ons/Extensions in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google ChromeHow to Disable Addons, Extensions or Plugins in Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet ExplorerHow to Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page-- Repeat the above steps for any other toolbars/add-ons/extensions you do not want or don't recognize.1. Open Firefox, go to the Address Bar and type: about:config2. Press Enter...There will be a warning about changing advanced settings.3. Click the box that says "I'll be careful, I promise!"4. Also have Scanned with RougeKiller (not deleted anything). The report is included in attachments.

Hi there,

Delta-search bar just popped up out of nowhere this morning and, whilst I've stopped it making itself my homepage, appearing when I start new tabs, and removed it manually from the control panel, I am still worried it might be lurking on my computer. I went to about:config on Mozilla Firefox and searched 'delta' and it still seems like it's there:

I'm currently running an AVIRA virus scan (still going) but I'd really like some professional advice and help. Also, when I found that Delta search bar was appearing, I had my smartphone (Sony Xperia T) plugged into my laptop (was adding some songs to it). Is there anything I can do to check and make sure my phone hasn't been affected also?

Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention I use Windows 7.

EDIT2: AVIRA virus scan just finished and it detected "EXP/JAVA.ternub.gen" and it's moved it to quarantine now.
