I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell XPS 9550 has a problem which makes the laptop unusable on a soft surface such as a lap or a bed. If the underside of the laptop is slightly bumped or nudged, the laptop will shut off immediately with no warning. The laptop will also instantaneously shut off when the right arrow key is pressed with usual typing force (even on a hard surface such as a desk). This doesn't happen with any other key on the laptop, however if the area just below the on button is bumped, the laptop will again, immediately shut off. I was wondering if anyone has had or knows of an issue similar to this and what might be causing this to happen?

I have the same problem. I press the UP ARROW key once the laptop completes booting. This solved the down key lock problem. I started hearing the beep sounds when I upgraded to windows 10. When I went back to windows 7 the beeping stopped during boot up but the down key problem exists. I am thinking of downgrading to XP to see if the noise problem and the keyboard works. I hope its not due to my ram upgrade.

Hello everyone! I recently got a 11 inch Yoga and although I'm liking it so far, the right shift key is also bothering me. I tried remapping the keyboard using KeyTweak first, uninstalled it, then SharpKeys. Although both do solve switching the keys around, both also lose the ability to scroll up continuously by pressing and holding the newly-mapped up-arrow key. It just scrolls up one line at a time, or moves the cursor up one line at a time, and so forth. Do I need to do something extra to make this work? Although I know it might seems such a little thing to complain about, I just like my things to work like they're supposed to  Unfortunately, if I can't get this to work, this might be a return...

I'm using excel in windows 7. I would like to insert an arrow into an IF() formula in excel. I would preferrably like the up arrow and down arrow in the wingdings font: #241 (up) and #242 (down). I would like to know how to do this without having to reference one of those arrows in another cell. In other words, I just want to find a way to insert it directly into my formula by using its character Code #.

Thanks - I can't find this anywhere!

A:Solved: Inserting a wingding arrow in an if/then excel formula

Hi Whataguy, welcome to TSG.

If you set the font for your formula cells to Wingdings, you can use a formula like:

Where I've typed the brackets, you'd actually enter the character code, so it would look like:

It shows as different characters in the formula bar because you can't change the font of the formula bar, if that makes sense. But if you've set the font to Wingdings in the cells where you want the results, you should see the arrows. Hope that helps.

One of our home computers is having a trouble with it's input: it keeps pressing the arrow left button. Whenever something is selected (i.e. an icon on the desktop) the selection keeps moving to the left. Also when entering a typing area, typing becomes unpossible because it becomes like writing from right to left! :(

At first we thought the keyboard was bugged (since the led's were bliking weird) so we bought a new keyboard. But upon restarting the computer the problem still presisted. At this moment I'm clueless, what should I do now?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I initially posted this problem on the Hardware forum, but nobody came forward. Accordingly I am hoping someone with a software background might be able offer me solution.

The problem is that my right and left arrow keys are not working properly. After a lot of tapping, they eventually do respond. However, they are no so unreliable I have to use the mouse to move my cursor anywhere. Response seems to be very intermittent.

None of the other keys on the keybard are affected. The up/down keys are working fine, as are the backspace and delete keys. I did try blasting compressed air under them, but that didn't work at all.

My machine is an MDG VisionBook, and the op system is XP.

As I say, if someone knows what the problem is here, I sure would appreciate a response. In my 25 years of computering, I have never encountered a problem like this! it is very annoying not to be able to use the left/right arrow keys, believe me!

Thank you,

The left and right arrow keys on my VisionBook MDG laptop (XP operating system) are no longer working properly. After tapping multitudinous times they will start working again. But the problem has become so bad I now use the mouse to move my cursor, even it only needs to be moved a few spaces. For some reason the machine is not immediately recognizing input from these keys. The problem is intermittent: sometimes they work just fine.

I first suspected dirt under the keys, and shot compressed air under them. But this had no effect whatsoever.

The problem does not exist in the up/down keys, nor in the backspace or delete keys, nor any other keys on the keyboard.

The machine is only a year or so old, so if the hardware is breaking down or corrosion is an issue, I would be very surprised.

I sure would appreciate it if anyone could offer me a solution to this problem.

Thank you,

Hello, Everyone So I purchased a new T560 and the pgup key would stick and it felt like plastic was grinding underneath when you would press it down.  Also my spacebar was super loud so I exchanged it.  On my second unit, the keys have a more uniform feel when pressed.  Now the only issue with this unit is the Left Arrow doesn't register all strokes.  I have to push it harder for it to register and even then it doesn't make much of a difference.  I'm kind of scared to get a replacement keyboard because who knows what issues the next keyboard might have.  I think I will stay with this one but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem where keys don't register all the presses.  Would cleaning under the key cap help resolve this problem?  Any suggestions would be  appreciated.  Thanks

Hello everyone, and thank you for past help (from reading forums, this is my first post)Sorry for the vague title and the verbose description, but I?m not sure of the problem and don?t know how to describe it concisely. Given the generic descriptor terms, I?ve also had a very hard time (but I tried!) searching for a solution before posting. Anyway... Every once in a while (I loathe trying to diagnose a sporadic problem) my computer seems to think I?m holding down the left arrow key. In any text field (Word, Notepad, address bar, search box, anywhere a cursor can go) the cursor steadily moves to the left, one space at a time. When it gets to the end (beginning) of a line, it moves up and keeps moving to the left as if I was holding down the arrow key. If it?s any kind of text box, I can type, but everything effectively comes out backwards (i.e., siht ekil). If I hit the alt key to bring up the menu bar, it cycles through them as well. If I bring up a dialogue box it acts the same?either continuing to cycle through the choices or hitting a dead end and staying on the leftmost option. Once it starts happening it affects all programs, all the way to the start>shutdown dialogue. I?m not sure when the problem arose, but it has lasted through two keyboards -- the fist plugged into the PS/2 port and the current keyboard is USB. It may have begun after installing a Logitech cordless mouse, but I unfortunately can?t say for sure. Besides, the computer acts as if the arrow key is... Read more

They work if I use them individually, but when I try to combine them, they don't work.

This affects a lot in games, let's say a racing game, when I try to reverse the car, I hold the "Down" arrow. But of course I have to move to left sometimes while doing so. When I hold "Left" arrow while holding "Down", it wouldn't work. I have to release the "Down" button so that the wheel would turn left. But of course that's useless.

However, when I try "Down + Right", it works. Also, when I move forward, by holding "Up" arrow, and if I want to turn left, by holding "Left" arrow next, it would work. Thus prove that the "down" and "left" arrow keys work unless they're combined.

And no, this is not just from the game.

I tried this by observing the Text Cursor, the blinking | shaped thing.

I put the Text Cursor on the middle of the sentence. First I tried holding the "Down" arrow, after that, while still holding it, I tried holding the "Left" arrow. The cursor didn't move. However when I tried releasing the "Down" arrow. The text cursor then moved to the left.

Next try is, I tried holding the "Down" arrow, after that, while still holding it, I tried holding the "Right" arrow, it worked, the cursor still moved to the right even if I'm holding both "Down + Right".

So it's really just the "Down + Left" combination. ... Read more

Hit your END key. That should toggle off End Mode. If that does not do it, try another keyboard (they go bad sometimes). Note that you can look in the status bar (bottom-most bar in the application) and see if it has an "END" in the bottom-right corner. If it does, this means End Mode is on.

I am creating a currency spreadsheet and I need a formula to calculate whether the dollar is up or down and display a drawn arrow in the cell.
Anyway to do this?

A:Excel 2003: linking arrow to formula

Using conditional formatting (from the format menu --- select conditional formatting) and set it to "less than 0" perform one format, then another conditional for "greater than 0" for the UP condition.

You can use shading color to color the cell background red for DOWN, green for UP.

Would that suffice (using a color code, rather than an UP or DOWN arrow?)

If you actually need the arrow, then an a formula (perhaps along with the formatting) would be needed - using the LOGICAL function "IF" to place a lower case h formatted in WINGDINGS3 font for the up arrow and a lower case i (WINDINGS3 font) for the down arrow in the cell contents. (if that's what you mean by a drawn arrow.....)

Hi,  I do not know why anyone never responded to you but to help the other users, I will list the steps. The issue is that your scroll lock is on.  If You Do Not See Scroll Lock on Your Lenovo KeyboardClick the Windows ButtonType "On-Screen Keyboard" and click on itOnce the On-Screen Keyboard appears, the scroll lock is probably selected. Click it to de-select it.Go to Excel and click the arrow keys and you should now be able to move between cells If you see the scroll lock on your keyboard, just press on the key once and that should fix it.  I hope this helps you and the future users of this community.  - C

Hi all
Hope this finds all happy and healthy, I have a wee bit of a problem, I am using a windows 8 desktop on a server which I log into via VMware Workstation for my course I am doing, every so often, usually soon after I log in I get this orange arrow that is driving me crazy that pops up. the helpdesk at the school was not very helpful and I have searched the net, and did a search on this site, (maybe I am using the wrong words?)
Anyway those hints I found so far are saying to either click to the right and drag to the left or if I have a touch screen swipe it to the left (arrow is on the left) I do have a touch screen but it only applies to the desktop on my computer not the virtual desktop, and clicking all around it and dragging or trying to move it does move the arrow slightly and it bounces right back when you let go of the mouse button.
if I log out and back in, it goes for a short time but then its back again and can not see options that are under it.
I am only learning Windows 8 and still finding my way about this Operating system, any tips and ideas gratefully appreciated

For your touch screen main OS,

Open gpedit.msc (Just type that in the "Metro" screen)
Open User Configuration- Administrative Templates- Windows Components- and then, the item "Edge UI"
Double click on "Disable Help Tips", and set it to "Enabled"
Apply and exit Local Group Policy Editor.
As you do have a touch screen, and you are using a VM, I think you will have to do this ONLY in the VM, but I am unsure of this as I do not have access to a touchscreen device.
Again, same criteria applies, in the VM only, you could go into the device manager and disable to touchscreen.
