Screen bleed on HP Omen

Q: Screen bleed on HP Omen

This model has a major Screen Bleed issue.I got two replacements, but no good.It looks like this model has a common issue with its screen. Now I have no choice but to live with it. I owned two laptops previously from other vendors. None of them ever had such issue. This is the first time I bought a high end product. And guess what, I am disappointed.I wish you had a much tighter quality control at your end. You had cut cost in usb-c port. But screen should not be compromised. When you call it a high end product, you should not expect the consumer to deal with such basic issue. How can we trust you in future? Hope it reaches to the concerned department and they take some positive steps to amend their ways.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is my second HP Omen, the first one I purchased was returned within two weeks for the exact same issue. My laptops screen is flickering in a strobe light fashion and this is the exact same issue I fully returned the last laptop for. A reboot does not seem to have any effect leaving me to heavily believe this is a hardware not a software related issue. The screen will flicker and around the edges there are very distinct Red then Blue then Green color lines circling the outer edge. They are usually only clearly visible on dark backgrounds. After about 5-10 minutes the flickering will stop the color will fade and the laptop functions normally. Thankfully I caught the first one within the two week window to return it but I am JUST out of that window this time around so it looks like I'm out of luck for a simple solution. To top it off the reason I bought this laptop was to replace my desktop PC as I'm moving to Japan less than a week from now so there's no more time for me to be running around to stores and I didn't want to haul a full desktop setup with me although now I'm not sure this expense was a good decision. My phones camera syncs with the flickering so the video I have doesn't show much but the pictures I've taken of the color bleed are pretty clearly a problem. It was plenty that when I brought the first one in I got a replacement almost immediately after they saw them. Nothing that I've found yet will replicate the issue 100% other than time. I forgot to add, the first laptop I uninstalled all of the HP bloatware and I left the BIOS version at its default. This laptop however I did the opposite, I left all the bloatware on the machine and I updated the BIOS to the latest version supplied on the HP Omen 17 downloads page on the HP website. The only other thing I've updated thus far is the sound drivers as I'm also having an issue where using VOIP software my voice goes very robotic and the software has to be reset. This exact issue has also occurred on both laptops using a microphone that does not have this issue on any other device.

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Great that you have the picture specially if this would still show outside Windows on the BIOS screen and is not apparent on an external video.

You can call in Lenovo Tech Support for recommended repair .
They most likely be asking for the picture for emailing to attach on the service ticket too .

I just bought a brand new Pavilion X360 Convertible 15-bk193ms Signature Edition 2 in 1 and the bottom corners of the screen bleed from the backlight display. Is this fixable without losing my laptop for months sending it back for repair? I know it can't be solved with any adjustments that are available on board, and it can't be a driver or software issue. Here's hoping for a quick fix response but judging from other threads and posts I've seen that is wishful thinking. I believe in HP products and unlike most others I love Windows. Keep me feeling that way please and help me fix this. Thank you. (This is the 4th HP I've had and the first with problems)

just got my P72 with a UHD screen and it has backlight bleed on the bottom.I attached photos to show.. It's on the right side just off the corner and on the left side that has a hard edge of light bleed and its pretty wide. ( it also changes depending on viewing angle ) Whould like to know what the vets think as this is my first lenovo. After paying what i did, i would expect no bleeding at all. Not really wanting to send it back just to get another one with the same problem or have someone come rip the screen apart to install another one that might have the same problems. what you do guys think?Any help is appreciated!

Yours is far better. Mine had more bleeding than this. Area to watch for is bottom left. Reported to Premier support. Waited three weeks, LCD was back-ordered, two times panels replaced, bleeding issued persisted. Now they are sending me new replacement. No point in calling for this, as my problem got worse. The replaced LCD part had stuck pixels. If the bleeding is affecting you and if you are within the return window return the laptop for refund/replacement. I am past 30 day return window, good thing about Premier Support is they escalated and they are sending me a new replacement unit.

Hi,I have this annoying persistent flicker and bleed/stain on my screen and it is visible in any application. It is most visible in grey color background. I already updated bios and drivers but still have the issue. Anyone knows of any fix? I would want to have this brought in for repair via warranty, though that would be my least preferred option due to inconvenience. Hope anyone here could shed light on this.  Kicks

I have owned 3 of these computers. All purchased from best buy. Every single one has had this problem and i returned the last 2. This isn't a small problem either, I've found multiple cases of this online. It seems to happen to the bestbuy laptops the most. I tried contacting hp support on the computer but they were no help and when they called me I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying. Great laptop, horrible screen.  Has anyone found a fix for this or has hp recalled these laptops? I have all of my school work on my laptop so I cant really just let it go.  Thank you

Since I got my laptop there has been a problem with screen backlight bleed in the bottom left-hand corner of the display. It is clearly noticeable when in a dark environment, showing dark content on the screen or when the screen brightness is turned up high, however, it is not that noticeable in normal use. Lenovo has offered a repair but I am interested in hearing whether people think this is worth it. I am worried that after the inconevience of backing up all my data and sending my laptop away, the repair will not make much difference to the issue, as it affects nearly all laptops so some degree. Does anyone have any experience with getting this kind of issue repaired and if so was it worth it?

Did u ever send it in for repair? I got 3 of the 710 laptops and 2 have really bad bleed but the 1 I kept is a lot better with just a little bleed in the lower left. Same boat as you. Lenovo offered repair but I'm hesitant it might come back worse.

Hey guys, joined this forum to see if anyone can help me out. I'm not too tech savvy so hopefully someone that know what they're talking about can help me. A couple of days ago I bought a new laptop after my old one died. I use this for school and personal use. I love the laptop. It's great. I bought it from Walmart so since it's new a couple of days old if I need to return it I can. But I just wanna see if this stuff is normal or not and if I'm being way to picky. I spent a lot of money on this and if something's wrong with it I wanna return it and exchange it while I can.So the problem I'm having is the screen. This is the first time I've owned an HD laptop screen and especially one that's this thin. It's an IPS screen and a touch screen. Well i had some time yesterday to sit down and mess with the laptop and changed my wallpaper and it's a black wallpaper well I noticed the top left and right corners of the the screen there is some fade to yellow or white at the corners. So would this be IPS glow or back light bleed? I tried to take a good picture it's a little more noticeable in person but this is close. Also another question. This is a pretty thin laptop, the thinnest laptop I've ever owned and I noticed when I close the screen down when I'm done when my hand touches the metal lid on the back of the laptop while closing it the screen ripples, is that normal? I know usually when you touch a screen it ripples but I'm touching the back of it so just wanna be sure that's nor... Read more

I just ordered a Dell Inspirion 15 7577 on the black friday sale (11/24/17) and, before anything, I'd like to say that Dell did a fantastic job on this model. Great thermal management, stunning graphics and highly solid and durable chassis. I am in love with this laptop.
But unfortunately, my screen did come with some backlight bleeding from the start and some clouding. It is not noticeable when gaming, except when I go into a dark area. But it is there and I cannot seem to ignore it.
I have ran the color tests (power button + D) and they are not noticeable then, but are very noticeable on a black screen.
What are my options and next steps?
Many thanks.

P.S. I am attaching a photo of my screen. The bleed is in the upper-mid section of the screen. And the clouding is most apparent on the upper-left and upper-right corners.

You're probably best off asking for a replacement system.  The other option is to have the screen replaced.

Hi there,

Sorry about the title I wasn't sure how to put it.

My newly built computer seems to have an issue with either the graphics card or the monitor or both and i am not sure which. The three problems I have are the windows aero animations have gone into slow motion as if the GPU can't handle them (it is the same for games) Also the monitor sometimes randomly goes blank while I am using the computer (most often when something graphically intense comes on screen) When I say 'go blank' I mean the desktop dissapears off the monitor but the monitors back-light is still on, I think is the computer crashing but can't tell because the monitor isn't showing anything. Finally the colors sometimes bleed in certain areas. Here is a demonstration of the bleeding. http://i41.tinypic.com/jkc183.png

What confuses me is that my monitor has different issues when plugged into my mums mac but still doesn't work properly. Also my mums monitor works fine in her mac but I still have all the same problems above when it is plugged into my pc.
Here is my PC spec:

Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.30GHz
ATI Radeon HD 6870
MSI Motherboard H61
8GB RAM (all being detected correctly)
Corsair CX500 PSU
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LiteOn IHAS124 24x
Here are the drivers I have:

My monitor (Novatech 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Full HD) - I can't find any drivers
Mums monitor (Dell SE198WFP) - Driver version 1.0.0.0
ATI Radeon HD 6870 - Driver version 11.12
Thanks in advance
Thomas

A:Blank Screen, Slow Motion and Colour Bleed. GPU Failure?

First thing to check is to make sure that the GPU is properly seated all the way as well as the rest of the hardware. Next would be to make sure that you have both 6 pin power connections connected and seated all the way. Thirdly, making sure that you have the latest driver installed and finally checking to make sure you that have the native resolution set correctly.

Greetings, I received my computer yesterday and as of today I began updating my drivers. It looks like when I went to update the Graphic Card is when my issue began, which was a message screen popped up stating an error occurred and the system needs to restart. Upon restart, I now have a blank white screen. So, apparently the graphic card update (likely before a windows compatible driver update occurred) is causing my issue and I can't F8. Tried...and got blue windows logo, but then white. I did not activate it via settings so.... Please advise Thanks Greg

While doing stuff - gaming, netflix, office work, anything - the screen sometimes randomly goes black. It's still illuminated, but it's black. Everything still works, if netflix is up the show keeps playing. If I'm on skype or chat, it still keeps running as if they screen works fine. It's very frustrating, I bought my first omen on Monday, returned it yesterday citing this problem and replaced it hoping it was a hardware issue. It apparently is not, because this one is doing the same exact thing. Things I have done: Updated everything. BIOS. The Nvidia GTX 865M. The Intel HD Graphics 530 driver. Thermal Framework. Display audio drivers. If I could update it, it's been updated. Reset everything: clean wipe and reset. Changed laptops entirely. This might seem minor, but if anything the issue is happening more frequently than before. I like the performance... except for this issue, this is a deal breaker, and I would have to have to return this laptop and find a different one.

My Omen 155211na has a problem. The lid has come away from the screen. Each time I clip it back in, it stays for a day or two and then starts to come away again. It seems to be a bit of a design flaw with the pointed edge. I can't see anything on the lid that would suggest it is damaged but it just won't stay clipped in. Any suggestions on getting it to stay? I have an extended warranty so I'm planning on calling it in but I'm wondering if it's easy to fix myself and if the warranty will even cover this. Any help is much appreciated. ThanksAndy

A:HP OMEN 15-5211na screen/lid

Having a hard time picturing the problem....perhaps a picture of it? So the plastic frame around the screen opens up at the top edge that would be nearest to you as you are sitting at the laptop about to open it to use it?  That is held together by little plastic clips and some of them may have broken off. HP will be hesitant to fix it under warranty. Would need to examine it carefully to see if the problem is in the front plastic frame or the back plastic tub that holds the screen to figure out how it can be fixed permanently. Don't use Superglue.

Hello,  We purchased an HP OMEN laptop from the HP Store last March 2015. It has been performing well. Recently, the touchscreen popped out from the top cover as the top was flipped open. It still works, as all the wiring is still connected. For now we just try to pop it back in, but it still pops out frequently. How can we fix this? I'm afraid the next time it pops out it might break the wiring and stop working. Thanks!

My laptop, HP Omen 15-ax00tx, get stuck at startup screen too often. This happens every day now. After  I shut it down for many hours, it won't start properly. I have to press the power button to start it again or else it will just keep on the black screen with that Omen logo.I have tried contact the HP Customer Care in my region on phone. The customer care guy suggested BIOS updating, also recovering my windows as I have changed the partition volume from 1 partition to 2 partitions which he said it's not recommended by HP. Sadly the problem continues 3 times now after I fixed as HP customer care suggested. Is there any other suggestions to fix this problem? I've bought this laptop for 2 weeks now and so far it's caused more problems than my previous 3-year-old HP 14 series.

If I push the screen back down at the back it will move back into place but will then immediately move apart again. Considering the price of this laptop I expect to have it for at least another 1-2 years and at this rate, I am afraid that the situation with the hinge will continuously get worse.

Hi all, I'm at a bit of a loss and while I can't contact HP tech support I'm hoping someone on here may have experienced the same problems I'm having. So I bought my laptop just over a month ago, and almost right from the off it's had issues to do with anything remotely graphics related.  It started off with the occasional crash to blue screen of death, with usual dump and restart.  But it's become more and more frequent, to the point where it's nearly every time I play (as well as the device being stopped in device manager with "Code 43" - albeit this has now gone again) Games I've been playing aren't even graphics intensive - Hearthstone Heroes, Skyrim, FSX on not quite highest settings. I can't remember the errors off hand (I know, that would probably be helpful when asking for help) but the point is I'm pretty sure they will all be being caused by the same thing, which is... what?  Why have I got a brand new laptop which I can only use to browse the web?  Is there a known problem with this GFX card? Why are nvidia releasing drivers that don't work properly will all GFX cards or Windows 10 (if indeed that is the problem), was I just really unlucky and just have a defective graphics card?  Surely someone at HP must know what this problem is. At the end of the day, if it's not fixable with minimal effort, bearing in mind I've tried pretty much everything bar sending it off to HP, I'm going to send it back and they w... I have a theory that there is extra pressure in the right corner because that's where the thinkpad logo and red light are on the backside.  Anyway, it doesn't bother me; I'm just worried that it might get worse progessively.  I don't really want to have to send it back to China and wait for repairs. But want to go ahead fix it while under warranty if there is a possibility that it will get worse.  ?Is this an acceptable amount of bleeding? (note: the only bleed is in the top right corner. It's definitely bleed because it goes away when I bend the screen ever so slightly. Everything else is glare. )

Hi. I have a new X1E with the 4k display on which I noticed  some 'extra' bleed in the left corner and top middle. I'm aware that some bleed seems to be "normal" or "accepted" on IPS panels.  I find it interesting however that a HP Zbook G3 that I have here does not seem to have that issue. Note that the pictures are not what the human eye sees of course, the screen is not that ugly as on the pic. In fact it's pretty good and really black (more black than the HP) however, the X1E has the bleed mark in the left corner, and to a lesser extend, top middle which immediately draws attention in a dark environment and black background. The HP has more bleed in general but it's divided equally, there a no spots that are standing out. That said I was hoping to get some feedback if a) this amount of bleed (and then I mean the spots marked in red on the pic) is really acceptable or not? and b) what are my chances getting a unit without bleed when I send it back and order it again? or can I have this repaired? I waited 2 weeks for this unit to arrive, so my guess is that sending it back, waiting for money, ordering again will take 1.5-2months.

Hi guys,
Bought this laptop 3 days ago and noticed light bleeding from the corner of the screen in darker rooms.
Originally bought this from PC World (retailer) and they didn't really seem interested in helping me so I may as well ask you guys for your opinion.
Its a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series (the red and black model)

Hi all first post here so hello , basically the problem i have is with clear type on i have a red color bleed around the edge of some text, anyone know how to fix it? I used the desktop with segoe ui light font and with clear type off theres is close to no red around the edge of text with it on text is smoother and clearer but with red around the edge of it, only faint but noticeable.

This wouldn't bother me as when using the standard win7 font, it is not noticeable really at all using windows programs and stuff but when using firefox it is quite noticebale.

On the left is firefox 4 config page, where it is particularly noticeable, second in is me typeing the most affected word, accessibilty, and on the far left is me typing the same word with cleartype off.

As you can see on firefox the color bleed is very clear, typing within in windows is noticeable but faint and with cleartype off it is non -existent but text is harder to read, any ideas?

May Help To englarge the image btw

A:Color Bleed with cleartype.

I do not see any red tint in the image provided.
Have you tried going into display in control panel and using the color calibrate and cleartype configuration tools? (the clear type tool will come up automatically once you calibrate color)

Hello, Does your P52 or similar have (a lot of) display bleed? I have some display bleed on my P52. I have seen that some reviews also detected this, such as this review. More precisely the "Display" paragraph, i.e. this picture (picture shows more intensified than in reality). On this forum, somebody was complaining about real bad bleeding on P51. And some other user who experienced bad bleeding on an unit and received another unit with less bleeding. I.e.: This is also the kind of bleeding I got, in the top left and bottom left corners. The pink area on the right is to be ignored. I wasn't able to take a picture. The image taken with my phone differs a lot from the reality. I would try to call Lenovo to request a display change. But I'm affraid that the replacement might be worse. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Best regards,Cristian.
