Error C0000005 with mshtml.dll

Q: Error C0000005 with mshtml.dll

On system running XP problem with various applications not starting up (AOL, roadmap software etc.) with display of above error. Have not installed new software. Error occurs as soon as system attempts to start the program. Also it is not possible to uninstall or reinstall AOL (for instance).
Going back to system status as of a week previous allowed at least reloading of AOL. But then then the same problem recurred.

Any ideas for the not very computer literate?
Is it worth trying out one of these services, which purport to find dll errors and fix them?

Any help appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A little more info would help us a lot here.

What OS are you running?

What is the full and exact error message?

What applications cause this error?

Cheers mate!

Hi folks, i've been having a quick look round the forum to try and find an answer to an issue i'm having but i'm obviously either just not finding a solution or putting in the wrong criteria or something!!

anyway, for the last couple of weeks i've been getting an issue, think it followed on from me installing windows script host 5.6.

Now i'm getting constant errors when trying to use IE (not that i use it too often) and the likes of WLMessengery/yahoo messenger and even a live chat program i use for my business.

i can't seem to find anything to tell me how to totally remove this wshost and i've tried disabling in control panel but i still get the errors.
Code:
Exception EAccessViolation in module mshtml.dll at 00209EDC.

Access violation at address 3DC29EDC in module 'mshtml.dll'. Read of address 00000000.
this was the error i'm getting from my chat program, and its a similar thing with everything else.

funnily i'm having no issues with google chrome and i think firefox was ok too

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:mshtml.dll error

This error happens when the mshtml.dll file is missing or deleted. It can also happen when we "repair" the registry and damage or delete the mshtml.dll file. To repair this you must install the most current security update for IE. Make sure you have the latest Windows Updates.

Hello,

Yesterday I started having problems with IE just crashing on me. At some sites (such as my default page), the page would not even get to finish loading before I'd get the ol' error message, "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Accompanying this message is the option to send an error report to MS. At other websites, I can surf freely (such as at MS website to search for help on this - HA!).

Anyway, I clicked on the "more info" button, and it tells me there is an error in the mshtml.dll mod. I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. I have tried repairing IE, restoring previous version and then reinstalling IE, and I keep getting the same message. I have noticed that IE crashes mostly when there are pages opening that have one sort of pop-up or javascript ad running in the background, so I decided to give hijackthis a try (since I've had success dealing with you great fellas in the past).

Here is the hijackthis log from my computer (running Windows98):

I know this sub-forum is normally used for BSOD issues, but I'm not sure if this issue fits in the other sub-forums any better than this one.

For at least a month now, various programs have been crashing with error code c0000005, and I'm not sure how to fix the issue.

I've already run Memtest86 a few times, and I received no errors from the tests I ran.

I've uploaded the latest minidump crash from a program called MusicBee (I no longer have the other minidumps), along with the rest of the files produced from DM Log Collector Tool (HOME-Fri_07_22_2016__12235_99.zip).

Hi there!

For sometime now I've been getting errors when trying to use Outlook Express 6. Before, the error would pop up out of the blue randomly and say the program caused an error and had to be shut down. I cann't recall what filename was listed as causing the error, but it was a dll, and started with "nt"

I just started getting a different error and it is causing some very serious issues I need to get resolved ASAP! I cannot reply to a single email and I have a large amount of business emails I need to respond to shortly.

I have attached a screenshot of the error I was getting... That error comes up EVERY time I click Reply, to respond to a message. I was able to reply to 1 email about 20 minutes ago, so this started immediatly after that.

Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this fixed quickly? LIke I said, I have a large amount of emails that need a response tonight.

Thank you!

I'm running Windows 7 Home, 64 bit
Laptop with i7 2.4 gHz and nVidia GeForce GT 630M, 1 GB memory, and 6 GB RAM.

Almost all games do not work on my computer. I've been trying to install a new game, and everything crashes instantly. The installers for each game also crash; some games I was able to install through a torrent or direct download client. However they all crash when I open them. For example, Raiderz, Tera, Dragons Nest, and C9 downloaders all crashed for me. C9 didn't work for me after I had installed it (instant crash with C0000005 error) and it didn't work through steam either (same error). They close instantly, before I am able to interact with the window. Pando Media Booster and Nexon Game Manager also crash with this same error.

I did manage to get Raiderz to work after I direct downloaded a set up and installed that. However, C9 still didn't even after I had installed it.

I've tried changing compatibility modes and running as administrator. I also updated my DirectX and my video card drivers.

Can anyone resolve this issue? Or direct me to a place where it has been solidly resolved? I've been researching this problem all day, to no avail.

Perhaps some games that do work may help: Dota 2 and League of Legends are games I've played recently that will work.

I found some closed threads here on the mshtml.dll error caused by IE 5.5 under ME.

Three main causes were cited by folks, one the video driver settings, one overheating, the other had a link to MS site which said it could be fixed by downloading latest 5.5.

It can't. Thought oheating might be cause til found it happened cold as well. Think video driver most likely. I have matrox G450, everything set to optimum performance.

Need it that way, so can people let me know of any workarounds for it?

Mind you I have a problem with Word 2000 too (ms09.dll)

Hello all, I'm new to the forums here as I can normally troubleshoot and problems myself, but I've been having a hard time resolving this issue.

I've recently upgraded my motherboard, processor and RAM to an ASUS Z87-K, Intel i5-4670K, and Corsair XMS3 1x8GB, and ever since I have been experiencing what appear to be video card related crashes. I am using a Zotac Geforce GTX 560 AMP, and a Corsair 750w PSU and did not have issues before the upgrade. The computer will crash to desktop while playing high performance games, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after an hour or two. This results in an event log message like this:

Hello,
I recently formatted my computer, (3 times) because I suspected that I had a virus that wouldn't let me on the internet. I ran CCleaner before I reformatted and let it fix all the problems found in the registry. (Now I am regretting that I done this because I didn't know what I was doing). I done a backup of what it fixed but when I reformatted the computer after, I didn't save it on my memory stick. Now I am still having problems getting on the computer. Everytime that I open IE I get an error message that it needs to shut down.
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: mshtml.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 0007f44d

I have searched Microsoft and it had some information and the article stated to update to the latest updates and this should fix the problem, but when I try to update my computer, it goes to a not available screen and won't let me update.

I have already had a post in the Am I affected area of this forum and had someone to help me. We done several different steps and concluded that I don't have a virus or malware on the computer at this time and he suggested that I post in the XP forum. Hopefully someone can help me fix my computer.

Thank you for your time

Adobe Photoshop Elements has encountered a problem and needs to close. Error code C0000005 Address 60cbb311, or 60cbb2fi. Then the program terminates. I have tried repairing the program, uninstalled it and reinstalled it all with no effect. The address numbers change but that's it..otherwise the program seems to work. As long as i don't try to access the slideshow portion. I've also noticed that my Ms Picture it! Publishing Platinum is no longer working either. Tried scanning for virus's and the like, it comes up clean. I have an older pc and its running windows xp. I know that the slideshow part of the program did work at one time but i never really used it besides toying with it until lately..the photoshop program is an older one but i bought it outright, it had never been installed until i put it on my pc. I use Internet Explorer dll files to show html content in my text field. It seams that problem is only on Windows 7. I was able to reproduce it when I installed on one of computers update KB2952664 (but it seams that some later update can trigger hanging too).
I recived dump files from few of my users. It seams that problem might be near or in mshtml.dll (all affected users have version of this file 11.00.9600.18838). Few last Call Stack lines (main Thread) from one of dumps:

I've been getting this error for a couple of months, over 20 times in all. The two common situations in which it usually happens are:
1) Browsing in Chrome, particularly when there are many windows and tabs open.
2) While computer is idle.
Except for the very first time this happened, it points to file aswSnx.sys, address FFFFF8800????AD1, where the ???? can vary

I attach the SFdebug file.

All of the crashes I saw point to Avast as the culprit. Looking at the module in particular, it's up to date, but it's still the cause nonetheless.

Personally, I wouldn't use Avast. If you have to run antivirus (I don't run any) then use something that has hundreds of millions of engineering dollars behind it. Such as McAfee or Symantec. I know these comments will likely get me a lot of heat, but they're just my opinion.

If you want to post links to some full memory dumps I'd be happy to look further to see if another driver might be stepping on top of the Avast driver. As it is right now, some action in user mode invokes a call to aswSnx.sys (likely through services.exe) which results in an unrecoverable exception.

It's this instruction here that causes the bugcheck:

NeighborI tried to add a Skype account recently.  Now internet explorer will not connect to his isp so that he can retrieve his email...apparently something went astray in his registry.  I do not know whether the addition of the Skype account caused this or what.  Trying to help.  Tried CCcleaner with no result.  Ran Malwarebytes.  Anyone else had this problem?

A:internet explorer will not connect to my isp Error c0000005

This sounds most unusual, a lot of problems which might not be related or might have happened at the same time by coincidence. Has a browser other than IE been tried? Have other computers attempted to connect along the same connection?
Skype is simply a video over internet protocol VOIP program, it might increase your bandwidth use quite a bit but shouldn't cause any other issues with general connectivity.

I tried the Startup Recovery but im stuck in a loop. Nothing gets fixed

Hi, well there is an error (0*c0000005) which pops up every time i try to install a new app and also pop up on regular basis for a antivirus program i use. so i go through sfc scan to deal with this. sfc scan shows the
following result :  "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."
so i go to the SFC details to check the corrupted files and i found multiple files which says:
1) cannot repair member file
2) could not reproject corrupted files
On the end of both these lines following text was written: "Hash mismatch"
what should i do now?
Somebody help please!

Hi all,

One of our users is on a Vista PC on our work domain. He has a Sharp MX-2700N (Colour Network printer/copier/scanner) multi-function added, which defaults to B&W prints. When he opens up word, and goes to print properties to change to colour printing, word crashes and we get the following error codes shown in the attached jpeg images...

...our IT team is a bit baffled, does anyone have any ideas or experienced a similar or same problem?

Any help much appreciated as we only have 3 Vista PC's out of a domain network of over 500 PCs!

Cheers.

Hi, all of your minidumps point to ntkrpamp.exe which is a Windows file. Crashes in that file are usually from faulty memory. Download Mem test from the downloads section and let it run overnight. If you find errors remove one memory module at a time and run the test again to determine which module is faulty.

(Win-XP) After getting an Error Msg telling me that I was "missing" a file named mshtml.hlp, I began a Google search using "mshtml.hlp" as the search string. Many search return results indicated that the problem was a programming language issue and others suggested that I search the Microsoft Knowledgebase. While reading these, one part of my mind was chewing on the question... what has changed in the 48 hours since I was able to save images that were embedded in my Outlook Express E-mail. It occurred to me that Microsoft had more or less forced IE7 on me 24 hours ago as an automatic update. That is the only thing different. I change my search string in Google to "uninstall ie7" and found instructions to uninstall ie7.Went to the "Control Panel", found Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 and uninstalled it. I must admit that there was some concern in the back of my mind as to what Explorer version, if any, I would be left with. Once the uninstall was completed, I rebooted and lo... all was as it was before the problem. I had IE6 and OE6 (Outlook Express 6) back. I tried using the Save-As feature on the same images that had caused me to get the error message. Nice... the error was fixed. No error msg and the image was saved the way I used to do it.Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum and added a topic descriptor. ~ Animal

Try to reinstall SP2 on your system. This will, effectively, repair Internet Explorer 6 (you may have to visit Windows Update to ensure that it didn't wipe out some of your updates).

....assuming it doesn't just freeze upon starting, that is. This has never happened to me before with this program. It's found a ton of nasties in the past, so I'm assuming that something else is still on my computer and trying like mad to avoid detection.

Oddly, a couple weeks before this, I tried updating TDSS Killer to version 2.7 and it wouldn't even open...no further updates will open for me either. I wonder if there's some connection.

Avast, Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and Spybot S&D all come up clean. Norman, Housecall and ESET online scanners show nothing. The only wierd thing is an alert I got from MJ Registry Watcher that happened as I tried to use Dr. Web today (something I've never seen in connection with the latter prior to these issues). No idea on this, but it looks kinda fishy:

I recently upgraded to Service Pack 2 for my home PC-
Whenever I browse the internet, I will randomly get a windows error with the cause as "mshtml.dll". It usually happens when I rapidly use the back button or type in a new url before the current website is fully loaded.

DLL File: mshtml or mshtml.dll
DLL Name: Microsoft HTML Viewer
Description: File that contains HTML-related utility functions.
Part Of: HTML
System DLL: No
Common Errors: File Not Found, Missing File, Exception Errors

It has also crashed MSN Messenger on two occasions.
Along with this I also get an error with "flash.ocx" or something similar!
Any ideas? Should I roll back to SP1? Or is this something entirely different?

*edit* Right when I finished typing up this thread and Submitted it a few seconds ago, I got the error again

You may also be runniing a resolution too high for the video card to handle.

Welcome to TSG, Phillip. I've split your post off from the other thread. We prefer folks to always start new ones rather than piggyback the old.

First obtain the CoolWebShredder from this site, update it, then run it with the browser closed and have it fix problems. Reboot afterward.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html#cwshredder

Then with the browser closed, check and "fix" any of these items which might remain in the HijackThis Scanlog:

Have you tried this command: regsvr32 mshtml.dll?

If this does not help and no better idea, just uninstall internet explorer and reinstall it. Try installing IE7.

I am continually getting mshtml.dll errors while on the internet using IE 6.0, but when I use AOL everything is fine. I have been to the Microsoft site and none of the problems seem to be what I am experiencing. Any suggestions as to what it could be? I have a P4 2.5 mhz processor and 1gb memory and operating system is Windows XP Pro. and IE 6.0, also my video card is an ATI Radeon 7500. The message says internet explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down. Thanks Dave
