I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We are currently using a hosting company to collect our email and deliver it to our
Exchange Server by POP3, however the hosting company is filtering out too much "good" mail and is not flexible about letting some through.

I have been advised to consider moving to using Exchange as a proper internet mail server, in order to cutt the hosting company out of the loop, and so we can have 100% control of what mail we accept.

I know techhies who can set this up, but they are not good at explaining the business consequences, in terms of potential lost email.

They did mention something about needing to create MX records, and that could cause mail to go missing (or even disappear) for up to 48 hours.

What is this all about and how does it work ? What are the potential risks of going down this route.

Some backround: we have our domain tags registered with one ISP, but the mailservers records are pointed at our hosting companies mail servers. (I was advised to do this, so that we could change hosters/mail servers without needing to go through the domain tag deregistration/re-registration dance that is necessary in the UK). So changing to our own servers would simply require logging in and putting our own mail server address/name in here ?

A:will I lose any mail ? host own mailserver with Exchange

Just carried one of these out at work:

The reason for 48hrs is that this is how long it takes for the changes to filter throughout the whole system once the existing account is disabled and the new one created.

Yes it is likely in this time that you will lose all the e-mails or they will become delayed, however, it is not an overly large problem as the e-mails will bounce so the sender will be aware of the issue and can phone you up or resend the e-mail later on.

Without knowledge of your working hours the best time to do this would be over the weekend (presuming you are a 5 day/week working compnay). This would mean the users would not notice the changeover and the e-mail would be working last thing Friday and first thing Monday.

As far as the potential risks are concerned. As long as you have someone who has planned the changeover properly, the only risk would be the potential of the e-mails bouncing, i.e. possibly a 5m order or a new customer. (again they bounce so the sender knows).

The only other thing is that you will need greater protection against e-mail threats on your server but your IT guy can guide you on this.

Hope that helps some

You're likely to have either sendmail or postfix, they're probably the most common. Exim and qpopper are two other that I can think of at the moment.

If the mailserver is running, you can check which it is from command line with ps aux.

Hello,Last week, all of a sudden, emails we were sending to the outside world were being bounced back with 4.4.7, 5.4.0, and 5.7.1 errors. I checked around, and learned that we are on the Composite Blocking List at abuseat.org (www.cbl.abuseat.org). They have a couple of great guides on how to figure out what's wrong with your server/network, and I've been following their instructions. Here's what I've done so far: * Added a rule to the firewall to block outgoing port 25 connections from any computer on the network other than the mailserver (hoping that that would stop any strange smtp traffic, if it were coming from a client computer)*Ran various virus-scans & MalwareBytes on all client computers, and removed a couple of bots and a trojan (Rogue.AntispywareBot, Adware.Minibug, and Trojan.Agent)*Used TCPView on each client computer, looking for smtp or port 25 connections, but did not see any So far, I'm still clueless as to where this spam is coming from... abuseat.org says it's coming from our mailserver. Here's what their site actually says:IP Address 173.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed in the CBL. It appears to be infected with a spam sending trojan or proxy. It was last detected at 2010-08-27 08:00 GMT (+/- 30 minutes), approximately 13 hours ago.It has been relisted following a previous removal at 2010-08-26 20:30 GMT (1 days, 54 minutes ago)In all probility this IP address is a NAT gateway, and the machine at in your local LAN is eithe... Hi guys,

Got a problem here that is causing real disruptions to our business, and hoping someone here can shed some light.

TCP/IP network of approx 25 machines, 1 NT4 server as firewall, 1 Linux server (RH 7.1?) doing qmail, courier-IMAP, DHCP, DNS etc.
We recently hooked up to an ADSL connection, for which we had to dump our old CISCO router, we were provided with a Netgear Router/Firewall which we couldn't get configured quite as we wanted.
Instead we installed a second ethernet card in the Linux box which connected directly to the ADSL modem, so the Linux box is now doing routing, firewalling and NAT.
This seemed to be about when our problems started.
As our browser and email client, we use Netscape (4.76+). We connect to the mail server using IMAP. Every so often, we find ourselves unable to connect to the mail server, and at the same time, also find ourselves unable to connect to the internet, even with Internet Explorer.
We use a proxy server for http and security, all machines have their browsers configured to use it - without a proxy we can't connect.
The thing is, each machine goes down at different times, never are they all down at the same time.

So, does anyone have the slightest inkling of an idea about what might be going on?

Hey All,

I am working on a server and recently two of their mail accounts have began not sending out email. When I first looked into the outbound box, the mail I sent out is still pending. It usually takes anywhere from 1 minute to several hours to for it (Argosoft Outbox) to be delivered. Also, when I send out a email to that particular a particular address, it will just sit there.

I have also done scans with AVG 8.0 and found that it had I-Worm/Bagz.D infection. I quickly quarantined that infection as to not allow to infect other files on the pc / server. I have also done a Hijack This Scan, please can someone look at this and tell some about what I am making out.

Hi Everybody!
I was wondering if I could get some help... I have had Outlook Express for a while, and whenever I end up doing a system recovery or something, my outgoing server either STOPS working, or STARTS working, even though I really change nothing. I have one e-mail address I use, it is under verizon.net. My servers are:

outgoing.verizon.net (i've also tried the other smpt.outgoing.verizon.net (if that's correct)).

Nothing has worked. I can receive e-mails, but whenever I want to send an e-mail, I have to go straight to the verizon.net website, and copy & paste the subject, the e-mail address, and the e-mail itself. Can anybody help? I am really lost, I've looked every where for a solution! I just want some ease in sending my e-mails & receiving them ALL with Outlook Express.

I use DSL (with verizon).

Thanks in advance!

I am desperate to resolve this issue, as I have been getting this 0x800ccc0e error from Outlook on my laptop, regarding failure to connect to my virtual server (apache tomcat running windows server 2008)

I tried to connect to my email via Webmail on Plesk, and received a failed login. The same for all accounts.

The problem arose when just minutes after sending through an email okay, I tried a follow up email to the same person and received this 0x800ccc0e error message.

I check on the server and noted that Mailenable Professional was not running IMAP properly, as I have exceed my trial period, so I spoke to them and installed Mailenable Enterprise on over the top to keep the trial running.

It kept the same settings, and IMAP and all the other services on the same accounts worked.

Having gone back to Outlook on my laptop, and tried to send. I got the same error.

Since then, I have disabled all anti-virus (KASPERSKY PURE / SPY WARE DOCTOR / MALWARE) on my laptop and server (SYMANTEC END POINT), disabling the firewalls to no avail.

I tried setting up an account with POP as opposed to IMAP, and test fails in Outlook. I have also verified the account details to be the same, as had worked previously for a long time.

I've tinkered with some port changes via other forums, and its not worked either. Plus did a run of registry cleaners on both systems, as well as resetting machines etc.

My colleague has just informed me, that when he went into his emai... Read more

A:Server (WINDOWS 2008) Mail Issue (MAIL ENABLE)

This has now been resolved, by the kind folk at mailenable.

Here are details of the fix, from the email they sent me:-
Ok we have logged into the server and performed a telnet test locally on the
server to see if we were able to connect to the MailEnable POP, IMAP and
SMTP services which were unsuccessful. We could see that you are running
Symantec Endpoint protection which is includes a firewall option. We added
the MailEnable IMAP service to the firewall rules which allowed us to
successfully connect the IMAP service. You can now use the Horde webmail
interface and log in using the IMAP protocol.

We then tried adding the SMTP service to the Symantec Endpoint Protection
firewall rules, however this did not make any difference. So we then
accessed the MailEnable SMTP properties and enabled the alternate port for
the SMTP service to listen on (587). We were then able to telnet to the SMTP
service on port 587 which indicates that there is some other
application/firewall that is blocking access on port 25. I noticed that the
Windows firewall was also running so we added a rule to the firewall for the
SMTP service and can now successfully connect to the service and send using
the Horde webmail interface. I'm quite certain that your Outlook errors
should be addressed so give it go and see if you can send/receive from the
Outlook client.

Cheers, and I hope this helps anyone who has a similar situation.

Best regards

What I am want to know is what is the program that others use to do this? Does windows 2000 server or advanced server have some built in function that does this? I realize Microsoft's mail program is Exchange but we use Notes. So since we use Notes does this require a 3rd party app to forward the mail messages?

A:main server not communicating w/ mail server

If it is crashing there is more going on there than just a connectivity issue...sounds like a hardware or NIC problem. Patch the server to the latest service pack and try again. If you have added any new hardware or software recently it is imperative to upadate the service pack after such an upgrade. Are both of these servers on the same network and subnet? You might need to add a static route between the two if they are on different networks. Can they ping one another? Do you have Active Directory configured correctly?

I have prematurley cancelled my web hosting with a specific template co. they handeld my e-mail account. how can re-direct or change mail settings so that I can continue to recieve and send mails from that address?

A:e-mail server

Hi, and welcome to TSG.

It depends on who owns the domain name (the part after the @ in the email address) used for the account.

If your old hosting company owns it, you may be out of luck. Your only hope might be to ask if they could forward incoming emails to a new address for you.

If you own the domain name, you would need to find a hosting company for that domain that at least provides the use of an email server. You could then change your domain name records to point to the new server.

I was wondering if someone could shed some light on to this problem I am having with a web mail server. It is actually a mail server. Workgroupmail Enterprise. It has web mail capabilities but for some reason the log in page will not display when I try and go to the sign in page. So I downloaded a 3rd party web mail server that interacts with the mail server. It is IceWarp Web Mail Server. I am able to get to a sign in page and I am able to sign in and retreive email via a web browser, but I can only do this from behind my router. I have to enter http://localhost:4096 and the sign in page comes right up. I cannot figure out what I need to do and what URL I would use from a web browser outside of my router. Locahost will not work because it is referenced to my non-routable IP. I tried using my Wan IP and I get page can not be displayed I have opened the necessary ports in my router and as far as I know they are the correct ports. 80 being the port I opened. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how I would access my email from outside my router. If more info is needed please feel free to email me at [email protected] And yes by the way this is all being used with an ISP. The mail server itself works, and like I said I can access my email via webmail if I am behind my router.

I'm pretty ignorant regarding user operated email programs as I've always used free accounts from Yahoo, or my isp, etc. I was going to send myself a message using Outlook Express just to see how it works. When I went to send the message, it asked me for my email address for responders. So in order to use Outlook Express, I still have to have an outside email address. Is there a way my computer can be used as my own mail server so I don't have to use outside accounts? I presume it would it have to be IP based.

Get your ** REMOVED** mail right in Hotmail

You can read and send messages from other email accounts without signing in to different places. Get started ))

what is that mean please ?

A:what is POP mail server . . ?

Hotmail uses a protocol called "http" since it was/is primarily a web based (i.e. uses a browser) email service. However traditional email servers pre-date Hotmail and other web based services. They were designed to handle email with dedicated clients and servers using special "mail" protocols: pop3 for receiving (download and delete from server), smtp for sending, and imap for viewing what is on the server before download. Historically many email services have used these protocols, which is how previous email clients from Microsoft have worked (Outlook Express and Windows Mail). With WLM, Microsoft decided to include the ability to download Hotmail to a client program using http without dropping support for the traditional protocols (pop3, imap) still in use by many other services. So, for those people who get their mail from different providers the WLM client will work with them all.

However, many people prefer not to use an installed client on their device but use the web browser to access their mail from providers that offer a web interface (often called "webmail"). But for each provider you would have to log in to each provider's web interface. What Microsoft has added to their Hotmail website is the ability for you to enter your login credentials for your other mail providers. Since pop3 is the most common type of mail server protocol, you would most likely be adding your pop3 access credentials for the other providers' email services. So... Read more

I have a coursework at my uni which is to measure the response time taken to download/receive an email from a courier imap server.
I've got an intranet of 6 ubuntu machines plugged into a switch. After reading the wiki for mail server, imap & courier-imap,i'm in a state of total confusion.....So I have come out with these questions

1)To undertake this project,should i be installing a mail server,eg
postfix + IMAP on my ubunu server;then send mails from the other PCs and start measuring the performance

2)or do i need only to install courier IMAP-i ruled that out cz then there would be no way to send the email in the first place

3)I understood what the MTA does, but cant really figure out what the role of an IMAP server is.....like in this case,5 PCs connected to a mail server, what does the IMAP server do,and where would it reside on?the server machine or on every client machine..?

And in the case of a web mail like Google, where does the IMAP server reside?
Thanks in advance...I'm new to networking, plz dont flame

A:mail server

Web mail has nothing to do with Imap.
IMAP is a protocol used to retrieve your email mostly used by Outlook but other mail clients have that capability as well. You do have the option to download your email using IMAP with Google mail. You just need to use a mail client that supports IMAP. Most of them do these days.

So my questions are:

hi all,

i want to limit the internet access in my office by using KERIO and by user id.

i managed to import users from my actice directoty, but when it comes to the traffic policy. i cannot to limit the access by users, only by IP.

i block all access to internet in my router, then i set the IE connection to the computer where i installed the KERIO.

is there something missing or wrong in my setting?

heres an example from the traffic policy that i set in my KERIO

testing [email protected] Any HTTP Permit
HTTP Proxy

testing is only the name
source: [email protected] means that he is allowed to access internet where ever he's using any workstation.

if i limit by IP in KERIO, all is fine but i want to limit it by users.

still andy cannot access the internet because the policy that i set in my router. any suggestion ???

I think it's a port used by DHCP server which issues you the IP address.I would think you should allow Kerio to listen to it and acknowledge, but an expert needs to confirm. Are you having internet problems? This description of various windows ports does NOT include ME, so I don't know if it may have changedhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/832017 Normally port 67 and 68 go together.

I just installed Kerio Personal Firewall free edition... when the install was complete it told me to restart to complete the installation, and I did. when the computer restarted, at the Windows 98 startup screen, the computer again restarted. it then went into safe mode fine. I tried to startup again in normal... it restarted like before. From there, I uninstalled Kerio in safe mode... what happened?

I've been using Kerio's Personal firewall for a few months now, and after seeing joe2cool's link showing Steve Gibson updated his stealth checker, I went to see how I fared with Kerio. Well, after doing the full port scan, I found that I have only about 6 ports in stealth, and the rest closed.
Does anyone know how to set Kerio ports to stealth?

I recently registered mydomain with Yahoo. I created a little web site. I decided to buy MDaemon Mail Server and host and look after my own mail. So I added my MX record to my Yahoo services so that Yhoo no longer look after any mail for me.

I opened the appropriate ports in my router and firewall to allow for this. I also got a static IP address from my ISP. But everytime I try to send a mail to a user @mydomain I get the following failed mail delivery message.

Message from yahoo.com.

How can you keep the mail in the server after it is sent to windows mail. Express 6 had that option so the mail was avaliable on the server in case you used a different computer to review e-mails at a later time.

A:mail removed from server

In Windows Mail, do the following:

1. Click on "Tools"
2. Click on "Accounts"
3. Click on the account you are using
4. Click on "properties"
5. Click on "advanced"
6. Put a checkmark in "Leave a copy of message on server"

That's all there is to do.
